Editing High Resolution High Definition

I am so annoyed I had to change the description over and over again, because some n00bs just use "VandalProof" to revert it! I don't understand why you and others do not want to have a correct explanation. So what's the point of this?

Why is it sooooo hard to understand this?:

HR.HDTV = Half Resolution High Definition Television! (960x540) because it's half of the resolution of the original TransportStream [TS] (1920×1080) [960x540 = 1/2 (1820x1080)]

I'm sorry but calling people "n00bs" and ignoring requests to discuss the edits didn't give me much confidence. UK Stations Infobox

Just got back from two weeks holiday in the sun and seen that there has been movement on this template with respect to the presentation of statistics. I was about to work on the the Far North Line stations to add the historical railway information. Any thoughts about reverting the stats info were appropriate? --Stewart 22:46, 5 March 2007 (UTC)

Your concern

I appreciate your concern, but it is extremely hard to simply ignore purile and adolescent comments directed at you when you are trying to engage in a constructive debate. Why is it that honest people are vilified for simply getting angry and expressing that anger, while the warranted object of that anger can seemingly get away with it? It's difficult to keep a cool head with this user. I find his comments to be consistently provocational, despite calls for co-operation. I certainly appreciate that, I've had difficulty working with him in the past as you'll note from this section on my talk page. However, I would suggest that if your having trouble remaining civil in your discussions then you take a break from Wikipedia and let things cool off for a little while. There will always be someone else around to look after things whilst your away.

Ultimately, if Captain scarlet upsets more users he will find himself in trouble, there is nowhere to hide on Wikipedia, there's always a diff to study or a history list to look at. We should both remember why we are here, bickering with other users certainly isn't my idea of a constructive use of my time, and so I would invite you to take a moment to consider things before hitting the "Save page" button in future. Emotions

I have just had an idea, and am incredibly suprised no one else has thought of it before. When people are leaving messages on wiki, it strikes me that as text cannot convey emotion, the writer of the text should leave (in brackets) the emotion they are trying to get across.

I think the problem with such a proposal would be the questionable value that editors emotions would have on Wikipedia. I do appreciate there are problems with communication online but don't think this could be improved by sharing our emotions. I don't think it is important myself, but maybe you could suggest a situation where it might be useful. Adambro 18:24, 23 March 2007 (UTC)

The other day I thought i had recieved a patronising comment, and instantly told the person who left it what i thought of them. It turned out that they were trying to be funny!!! How could i submit my idea to the WHOLE of wikipedia?

I'd suggest mentioning it somewhere at Wikipedia:Village pump if you would like a wider discussion on the proposal. In the situation you have described, I think the correct course of action to take if there is a possibility of misunderstanding would be to ask the other editor to clarify their comment before making any reply which assumes a possibly incorrect interpretation. I think it might take a few hours or so for the 'What links here' lists to populate because of how it is included in the pages by the template. I'll leave it for a while and see what happens. Hopefully it will work. I note the pages that seem to be appearing have been edited since I changed the template, I hope this isn't what is required to get them to show up otherwise it kind of defeats the object of the exercise. Maybe you have some suggestions as to how I might achieve the same counts another way? Perhaps there is a better way of doing it I wonder. Adambro 22:44, 23 March 2007 (UTC)

I think you have to wait for the Wikipedia database to be updated. When I was sorting out some redirected in templates, it could take several hours to be reflected in the What links here. That had escaped my mind when I was looking at this earlier. --Stewart 22:53, 23 March 2007 (UTC)

Ahh yes. As you'll see from the date I uploaded my image, it was prior to that of Chris Wood, but his is certainly an improvement so I would think it would be appropriate to remove mine as I don't think it adds anything additional. Adambro 23:06, 24 March 2007 (UTC)

Work on UK Railway Station Infoboxes

Thanks for your comments. I've looked at this issue previously and came to the conclusion that 'usage' was a much better description but the work involved in changing over to this would be quite large. There are of course benefits in doing so, namely the ability once this is complete to simplify the template which will make it easier to maintain.

I've now got this bot approved which makes this kind of change feasible.

Where the bot is changing to usage, it is also changing the template call to Infobox UK station which I think is an improvement other going through the various redirects that were being used previously. Adambro 21:33, 25 March 2007 (UTC)

You're right: they have changed the address of the station information pages, fortunately to a much easier-to-understand format. I've changed the links in {{stn art lnk}} and {{Infobox UK station}}, and will do {{stn art lrnk}} next. --RFBailey 09:17, 27 March 2007 (UTC)

Actually, no they haven't: the link I originally had in the infobox wrong. The easy-to-understand links are to an old version of the station information pages, which are now out-of-date, but for some reson are still live! (This is what got me confused.)
