Hey,the updates I did are based on the numbers(sum of each category class) actually present in the columns for the respective boat classes. The cumulative numbers were outdated as over time some boats have been decommissioned/commissioned but they were not updated. Each of those boat class numbers are backed by their respective class pages which have all the necessary references(I know because I update them frequently and add the necessary references). As I said in my commit message, not everything needs a reference(because there might not actually exist one,AFAIK the coast guard does not publicly publish cumulative class category numbers, nor does any other agency including Jane's) but can derived from inference, the very reason Wikipedia exists is to collect open source information. If you would like to confirm references for each of those individual numbers, please feel free to visit individual boat classes and confirm(again I did mention that in my commit message to check the Bharati class page for more information). Please do a bit more verification/checks before randomly reverting edits. Thanks

Sir, I edited page on P15B about it's armaments, I don't have any reliable source but have images from Defexpo 2016 in which MDL had an poster in which it was clearly stated that 4x8-cell BrahMos will be on P15B, so I edited P15B armaments. Hey Mularam2014, Welcome to Wikipedia and thank you for your valuable contributions to the Indian Navy associated pages. The reason I edited your contributions was because they did not have references which could be verified by a third party. Most newspaper articles(existing references which can be verified) point to 8-16 BrahMos missiles not 32. It is great to hear that you have pictures of the MDL poster on P15B and you can use that as a reference(as long as the text is legible in the photos). A good way to do this is to upload these photographs to Wikimedia Commons and then refer to that in the article. Contributing to Wikipedia at times might involve a bit of work but is necessary to ensure the authenticity of information. Keep up the good work and let me know if I can be of any help.

Hey Diannaa, I understand that this was my second copyright violation and thus warranted the block. I agree that I erred the first time since I am relatively new to Wikipedia and was not aware of the extent of this policy. But I have been careful of this since the first warning. If I remember correctly, there was no direct copy of text and I did reword the lines on the Yudh Send Medal Page from the Indian Navy website. Maybe the rewording was not enough and thus warranted this block again but in my defense at times there is not much rewording to be done when describing a medal or an object. I have been a responsible editor for the last seven months and am very excited to do my bit for the wikipedia community. I have added numerous new pages(related to Indian Navy) and added extensively to existing pages(related to Indian Armed Forces) where most of my information is sourced from news articles. I will be extremely careful of this in the future and request you to please unblock me. Also, I feel a 24 hour block was called for because of my mistake but an indefinite block is bit too harsh and might discourage me from being an active participant of the wikipedia community. Thanks. Just saw your note regarding 24-hour block versus indefinite block. The reason we started using indef block is because if we do it that way the editor cannot resume editing until they provide us with a clear statement that demonstrates that they have read and understand our copyright policy. There's been many people who simply resume what they were doing, to the detriment of the encyclopedia. Copyright is a very serious issue on this wiki and this is one of the ways we are trying to control it. Sorry if that seems harsh. You can put in a deletion request for the image and state your reason at Wikimedia Commons. In general when you upload an image to Wikimedia you give up any copyright to the image and it is released to be under the Common Creative license. Asian 10,000 Challenge invite

Hi. The Wikipedia:WikiProject Asia/The 10,000 Challenge has recently started, based on the UK/Ireland Wikipedia:The 10,000 Challenge and Wikipedia:WikiProject Africa/The 10,000 Challenge. The idea is not to record every minor edit, but to create a momentum to motivate editors to produce good content improvements and creations and inspire people to work on more countries than they might otherwise work on. There's also the possibility of establishing smaller country or regional challenges for places like South East Asia, Japan/China or India etc, much like Wikipedia:The 1000 Challenge (Nordic). For this to really work we need diversity and exciting content and editors from a broad range of countries regularly contributing. At some stage we hope to run some contests to benefit Asian content, a destubathon perhaps, aimed at reducing the stub count would be a good place to start, based on the current Wikipedia:WikiProject Africa/The Africa Destubathon which has produced near 200 articles in just three days. If you would like to see this happening for Asia, and see potential in this attracting more interest and editors for the country/countries you work on please sign up and being contributing to the challenge! Hey, Yes that has been added to the page already. The status of the ship is connected to it being in service with the Indian Navy and is not related to it undergoing repairs. The ship will cease to be active when it is decommissioned or scrapped from the Indian Navy. Ships routinely undergo mid-life updates and repairs in the drydock and are still considered active. The same applies here. If you do wish to edit pages after your changes have been reverted, it is recommended to discuss them on the Talk page. Using multiple accounts(registered or not) can be considered as an attempt to evade consensus building and can lean to permanent blocks. Thanks Adamgerber80 (talk) 20:19, 8 December 2016 (UTC)

My point of argument is that these photos satisfy the the 1st requirement since it is impossible to obtain them otherwise and thus there will not be freely available otherwise. Diannaa Yes I have read that but my argument is that even if the 'military person' is currently living, his/her image in full uniform is controlled and released by only the Indian government. Any image released by the Indian Government is considered non-free under Wikimedia commons rules and thus will never be replaceable. This is the under the same logic as the one where images of rocketry(from the same source under the same license) were considered not replaceable and allowed under Fair Use terms. Just as point of reference, this image(and other images uploaded by me under Fair use) were deleted in wikimedia commons since it does not meet their rules. I understand your argument but I do not agree with it. I have also nominated File:Birender Singh Dhanoa COAS.jpg and File:Shirish Baban Deo CAS.jpg for deletion. If you wish to make a case for why these images should be an exception, please post on each file talk page using the instructions provided on the deletion template on the file. User:Parikhjigish The references should be clearly cited across the section which you wish to add. External Links are meant to supplement the information present not act as references. Please try to understand how Wikipedia works and the difference between external links and references for each article. I have no objection to that list being updated as long as it properly referenced and correctly edited(which it still isn't). Train-the-Trainer 2017: Invitation to participate

What is TTT?
Train the Trainer or TTT is a residential training program. The program attempts to groom leadership skills among the Indian Wikimedia community members. Earlier TTT have been conducted in 2013, 2015 and 2016.

Who should join?

  • Any active Wikimedian contributing to any Indic language Wikimedia project is eligible to apply.
  • An editor must have 500+ edits.
  • Anyone who have already participated in an earlier iteration of TTT, can not apply.

L3X1, Thanks for the warning and I will be extremely careful of this in the future. I will also refrain from editing the article and Brahmos until we reach a consensus. Just to point out that the edits were not only reverted by me but also by other editors. Repeated attempts to have the editor to discuss this on the Talk page were not initially successful. This has been the same attitude on Brahmos where the editor still refuses to comment on the Talk page and reach a consensus. Second, I would like to point out that most of these edits seem to be from the same user using different unregistered IP's making it seem that there are multiple editors here. Third, the editor continues to indulge in personal attacks which I have refrained from. Please let me know how to sort these issues. Thanks. Adamgerber80 (talk) 22:22, 1 February 2017 (UTC)
Adamgerber80 I noticed the different IP's on the revision history were making the exact same changes, and wondered if this was a possible case of WP:SOCK. I suggest one of the following:
  • Go to the AN/I and pursue it as a sock investigation. However, this may not be accepted or may produce the opposite of the desired intention. I say this because your position on this may be considered non-neutral or your case may not be considered valid as the previous IP is no longer in use.
  • Ask an admin to put a block on the previous IP for the duration of the RfC. But as stated above, if it isn't being used directly as a SOCK during the RfC, it may not be complied with.
  • Not think about it. I think enough of us would know if the IP attempted to sock, and it would backfire quickly before any real harm were done. Skipping a sock investigation also makes life easier. Glad to be of service. L3X1 My Complaint Desk 22:41, 1 February 2017 (UTC)
L3X1, I understand the points you make about the SOCK investigation and I agree with your conclusion that it might not be worth pursuing. I have a couple of follow-up questions: First, will the decision of this RfC being binding on other articles, example Brahmos as well? Adamgerber80, based off everything I have seen, the RfC will be binding on related articles, especially in regard to the DefenceNews and other sources. As for the other 2 points, I'm not entirely sure. However, in any edit-discussions for other articles like Brahmos, this RfC can be used as a source and used for precedent. The only way I see it as non-binding for other articles is if someone could prove that the circumstances were different for the topic in dispute, or it was outdated. Suggestion for page protection related to Hsiung Feng III

Hi, Adamgerber80, on the discussion for Hsiung Feng III you've proposed Semi Protection for three articles. I am wondering whether you should also include a fourth, namely Taiwan and weapons of mass destruction. I was researching for the Hsiung Feng III discussion and noticed some similar IP / Anon activity there regarding 'hypersonic' and 'nuclear'. merlinVtwelve, Blurp92 So it seems that the IP hopper has affected more articles then we were aware of. Here are 3 more articles that have seen similar disruptions List of human spaceflight programs, National Space Organization, National Chung-Shan Institute of Science and Technology. I think this could be turning into a serious problem since it is very difficult to track his edits because of the VPN. Maybe we should bring in more admins into this to see what can be done. It might take a while to find them all. Here are a couple more where the same 'Powerhouse' editor has been slipping in unsourced claims: Stealth ship and Hypersonic speed. I found those just by casually looking – and when I get the time will look more thoroughly. Although these have gone un-noticed, and have not necessarily been causing disruption up until now, I am sure if I try and edit them, he/she will become disruptive. He / she seems to be able to get around the usual safeguards against WP:SOCK activities. Seems like an issue here that admins need to address, to protect Wikipedia from this type of activity in future, as he/she won't be the last to use these methods. And we are not talking about a trivial matter – these are completely false claims about nuclear weapons. merlinVtwelve (talk) 05:04, 8 February 2017 (UTC)
I've had a further look, and only found one more, Human spaceflight, which is already semi protected for the time being, for other reasons apparently. But I'm just a plain vanilla editor, with just the usual tools, so it's hard to know what else is out there. Indeed s/he seems on a revenge mission now, having also attacked some of mine (thanks Adamgerber80 for fixing at least one of them). Not sure how long this can go on for? I would have thought the higher-ups at Wikipedia would have encountered this kind of thing before. merlinVtwelve I have opened another dialogue with User_talk:Vanamonde93#Harassment_by_IP_hopper since this admin seems to be familiar with the incident. The suggested action was to take this to ANI. All known Tor exit nodes are blocked to prevent editing abuse by anonymous vandals who can switch between servers at will, so based on that, it's safe to say that the (admittedly extreme) solution to this is to identify the IPs used by the VPN the IP hopper uses and block them from editing. All seems to be quiet now, hopefully. I just noticed something interesting actually. For one of his IP addresses, he may have forgotten to activate the VPN. If you look at this series of edits [1], and then check the Geolocate details, there is no mention of Powerhouse. It comes up as 'fixed broadband' on 'China Telecom jiangsu', based in Nanjing, China. It is unclear what is the agenda for the editor. But I am going through a bunch of Taiwan weapons related articles and I find his/her fingerprint everywhere with uncited info. Wikipedia relies on references which can checked by anyone for confirmation. Someone claiming that it was shown during the parade is not enough since we would also have to watch the video. If it was showed during the Pakistan Army Parade, then it should have been reported in the Pakistani media and that reference would do. Alternately, any book, journal or another reliable source which is available in print will suffice. Do remember that blogs or forums like defense.pk are not acceptable. Thanks. I'll admit I have limited experience of this kind of thing, but it seems like a good idea. Otherwise, it will be a re-run of what happened last time. L3X1 Thanks. One thing we have discovered is that the IP hopper might be troubling me for 2 months but there is a method to this madness. First, the IP hopper has been around for some period of time, my guess at least 2-3 years. I have found edits with similar signatures going back to 2014. The IP hopper edits only Taiwan related topics and adds content with a nationalistic tint to them. There are other editors who have also compiled a list of pages which are affected(some of this is here). When someone discovers edits by the editor which are clearly wrong or misleading, they get attacked as revenge. Is there a way to declare the IP hopper a (long term abuser) and start a page for the future reference? It might make sense to have a list of pages which are affected and a name to refer to when asking for blocks against IP's or semi-protection on pages. Adamgerber80 (talk) 02:04, 13 March 2017 (UTC)

I don't know enough about how LTA and socks are determined/caught/marked, but [[W{:ANI|the Admin Noticeboards of Incidents]] will help you. I would think that if a definite list of affected articles was drawn up, it would be easier to get them SEMId for a few months, the admins behind the counter at RFPP don' seem to get the scope of the problem, which is why the requests are either declined or only protected for a token amount (not that I'm being ungrateful). El_C, I would argue that the authenticity of some of those references. Some of them are blogs and have been refuted in the past. If I can weigh in here. It's not just about content/sources. Yes, this IP hopper will sometimes use reliable references, while other times (more often) not. Part of the problem seems to be that s/he changes IP address with every single edit and comment. Why not stick to the same IP address, or even better open up an account? El_C, I would like to point out one thing and I did not want it this to affect the outcome of the discussion(on Wan Chien page) and thus I did not bring it up before. The IP hopper on that page, has been blocked for a period of one week from Wikipedia and continues to evade his/her block. Here are the IP's the editor has been blocked from Special:Contributions/43.249.129.124, Special:Contributions/1.237.20.87, Special:Contributions/60.94.69.103. Also, the editor at the same time continues to disrupt other pages Tuo Chiang-class corvette, Republic of China Armed Forces from other IP's Special:Contributions/45.120.201.175, Special:Contributions/45.120.200.60, Special:Contributions/103.17.199.250, Special:Contributions/60.250.35.190. I can provide other references(talk pages with various administrators) if this might appear to be far-fetched since I have been trying to bring this issue up with other administrators for the past 2 months. The editor has been a long term offender and you can find more information here. The same IP editor has tried to SOCK a RfC as well here. Thanks for all your help so far in moderating the discussion. Cheng Kung-class frigates

Hello there, I was the person who changed the editing for the Cheng Kung-class frigates of the Republic of China Navy. I do understand that these ships originated from the United States Built Perry Class frigates, however they were not "ex-Perry Class" as indicated on the wikipedia page (no citations either) The contents of the link Cheng Kung-class has a full article of Cheng Kung-class being licensed built in Taiwan. They are not second hand purchased ships from the US Navy. Hi, 107.199.203.79 thanks for reaching out. I do understand your point. But the Cheng Kung-class are based on the Oliver Perry Class frigates. Yes, mentioning ex-Oliver Class can be misinterpreted as them being old ships bought from the US Navy. Maybe we can put "based on Perry Class Frigates" instead. That would be acceptable to me. I have explained to you before. PIB self archives it's sources and can be accessed over a long period of time. Yes, the Indian Navy links have been web-archived(to ensure they stick around) but we still consider PIB links to be important since this is the offical source of the Indian Government. You are welcome to add Indian Navy links to the page as well "in addition" to the PIB links that have been added. Do not replace existing reliable sources and for the last time do not engage in an edit war.
