Adela Tindal

I have just edited the page you created about Adela Maddison, largely to insert her date of birth and parentage. However, you might like to review the assertion that she was an Irish composer, as I haven't found any direct Irish connections. Adela was born in London, her mother in Guernsey, and I think her father in England. Kvaratschelia (talk) 09:41, 8 February 2011 (UTC)

Hi. The Irishness was as per my referenced source, Grove. I must admit I was a little puzzled by it (other than her mother's name looking Irish) but we have to go with the sources and Groves is obviously one of the highest authorities, and in fact the entry was written by Fuller who was also the author behind two of the other main references I used! I just couldn't find any reliable (or other!) source that said otherwise. I'm curious to find out where you found your material. Could you put the references you used for your bits into the article please? I also see you linked to Frederick Maddison (footballer). I had seen that we had an article for a person of that name, but I didn't link to it as none of my sources made the connection - no musical sources were interested in football and also I couldn't find any football source that was interested in music! I think the connection between these two, if true, is pretty interesting and should really be expanded on. OK, I've added references for the birth and marriage announcements in The Times, and these can be backed up by various genealogical sites and my own correspondence with their direct descendants. Looking good, I've now just reworded it slightly and put in some wikilinks. There's just one bit that I've tagged as still needing a reference, namely for her mother: the spelling of her name (O'Donel instead of O'Donnell, which is what is in the DNB) and her death year (which is not in the DNB). It would be great if you could dig up a ref for that. Please note though that any ref has to satisfy WP:VERIFY - personal correspondence wouldn't, nor would many websites. I've put in a citation for the mother, as the death announcement in The Times confirms the spelling; but it can also be confirmed at various other sources, such as the marriage in 1853. She died on 1 August 1917 in Hordle, Hampshire, and is buried in the church there. I only started this because I am writing about her husband, so will leave her alone from now!Kvaratschelia (talk) 13:17, 10 February 2011 (UTC)

If you upload it on en.wiki, it only has to be public domain in the United States. All images before 1923 are public domain. Tag it {{PD-US}}. While applying MOS changes to List of township-level divisions of Shanghai, I noticed some of your SH town creations. I must say, they are better than almost all of the town articles I (and many others) create. I've begun the categories! Take a peek at my contributions. Wales and Scotland just have their historic gardens lumped into a parent category w/out specific grades. Another Lutyens house?

Hi Aegoceras, nice 'hear' from you from time to time. My 'last two Lutyens houses' were also used as filming locations; that is my reason for uploading the photo's to Commons. A little frivolous compared to your work on Wikipedia ;-) Nevertheless I would very much like to know if you can identify a certain house used in another Agatha Christie's Poirot episode. It reminds me of Munstead Wood, but it's different. My own searches have not revealed anything so far. I have some still's for you to see if you want to help. Will you? Hi Judithcomm. I'm afraid I don't have much detailed knowledge about Lutyens houses beyond the articles I've written to date, so I don't think I'd be much help, sorry. I'd say that you are way ahead of me, based on what I've seen of your recent work on Commons! The West Country Challenge

I presume you have heard about The West Country Challenge?

The The West Country Challenge will take place from 8 to 28 August 2016. The idea is to create and improve articles about Bristol, Somerset, Devon, Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly, Dorset, Wiltshire and Gloucestershire.

The format will be based on Wales's successful Awaken the Dragon which saw over 1000 article improvements and creations and 65 GAs/FAs. As with the Dragon contest, the focus is more on improving core articles and breathing new life into those older stale articles and stubs which might otherwise not get edited in years. All contributions, including new articles, are welcome though.

Work on any of the items at:

• Core articles
• Missing article hotlist
• Missing photograph hotlist

or other articles relating to the area.

There will be sub contests focusing on particular areas:

• Bristol (Day 1-3)
• Cornwall and Scilly (Day 4-6)
• Devon (Day 7-9)
• Dorset (Day 10-12)
• Gloucestershire (Day 13-15)
• Somerset (Day 16-18)
• Wiltshire (Day 19-21)

Europe 10,000 Challenge invite

Hi. The Wikipedia:WikiProject Europe/The 10,000 Challenge has recently started, based on the UK/Ireland Wikipedia:The 10,000 Challenge. The idea is not to record every minor edit, but to create a momentum to motivate editors to produce good content improvements and creations and inspire people to work on more countries than they might otherwise work on. There's also the possibility of establishing smaller country or regional challenges for places like Germany, Italy, the Benelux countries, Iberian Peninsula, Romania, Slovenia etc, much like Wikipedia:The 1000 Challenge (Nordic). For this to really work we need diversity and exciting content and editors from a broad range of countries regularly contributing. If you would like to see masses of articles being improved for Europe and your specialist country like Wikipedia:WikiProject Africa/The Africa Destubathon, sign up today and once the challenge starts a contest can be organized. This is a way we can target every country of Europe, and steadily vastly improve the encyclopedia.
