Template[edit]

OK, {{User ga-0}} is there, but I don't understand why you don't show up at Category:User ga-0 although it's listed at the bottom of your user page. --Angr/_{tɔk tə mi} 06:41, 3 November 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Hmm, I could not figure it out either. Additionaly, the system logs me out every time I try editing a category (I have to log back in and edit it then, but after that it logs me out again). I've never seen anything that weird before. Anyway, hopefully me not being present in the category listing is just a lag due to the fact this is a new category. Amazingly, the glitch was most likely due to me putting the template reference on my user page before the actual template was created. Removing the reference and putting it back placed me in the appropriate category. A little harmless bug, but a bug nevertheless.--Ag Foghlaim 21:59, 3 November 2005 (UTC)[reply]

IPA for Irish[edit]

Okay, walking home from work I was thinking about what it might be that you're missing from Irish phonology and would like on a separate IPA for Irish page. Could it be that what you're missing is a comparison of the strict IPA system I'm switching over to with the transcription system you're familiar with from learners' materials like Foclóir Póca and Learning Irish? I could make a page with a table along the following lines:

IPA	Descriptive name	Symbol in Learning Irish	Symbol in Foclóir Póca	Common spellings of this sound
a	Short a	æ:, a:	a	a, ai, ea, eai
aː	Long a	ɑ:	a:	á, ái, eá, eái
bˠ	Broad b	b	b	b (next to a, o, u)

and so on. Is that what you're looking for? I can do it, but if I do I'd rather put it in Wikipedia: space than article space, as it would really be functioning as an aid for reading Wikipedia rather than being an encyclopedia article itself. Angr 18:23, 11 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

This might just be it! Figuring out the difference between bˠ and b wasn't terribly hard, but some of the other symbols were more elusive. If you could compile a table in image of the prototype above, you would have my eternal gratitude... or wait, did I already promise that to you in the past? :)

As for location, Wikipedia namespace should probably do fine, although I am not sure where exactly is the best place to put it. Wherever it's going to be, once it's ready, I'm going to print it out and meditate on it for the next few days :)--Ag Foghlaim 18:25, 12 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I also have a related question. I don't remember if it was you who told me that or if I read it elsewhere, but, if I remember correctly, the pronunciation of letter "l" depends on its lenition/eclipsis. While in writing this letter is never modified, its pronunciation actually differs if it stands in a position where another lenitable/eclipsable letter would be lenited/eclipsed. An example would be in aice leis an lampa, which is along the same lines as in aice leis an gcoláiste. First of all, is that true at all, or is it something different that I completely misunderstood? Second, if its true, does the strict version of IPA provide any means to show the difference in pronunciation of letter "l" in various positions?--Ag Foghlaim 14:05, 13 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, Angr! While I am incredibly flattered that you considered me as someone who might have useful input in this peer review, I doubt I can add anything of value. After all, I am just a learner, and one without any academic goals at that. At this time, the article answers all my questions, even those I didn't know I had, and those that I won't even think of asking for quite a while. That said, I assure you that if I find any issues with this article, you'll be the first to know.
