help for portal and GA status

Hi Agathoclea, I have a number of candidates for the Germany portal (and for GA status), but don't know how to go about getting them looked at. I have added them here but suspect that's wrong. They are:

I would be grateful for your advice. --Bermicourt (talk) 19:22, 7 September 2009 (UTC)

Bermicourt, I looked over Luneburg heath and Low German house, and upgraded both to B status. They are certainnly more than start class, although both could use some more work if you want to bring them along. The Low German House -- I'd talk to the folks in the architecture project about that. No point in keeping it solely in WPG, esp since you have questions about construction and such. I'm not sure wht to call the three pillar house (4, 2, etc.). The person I'd ask has died, so she can't help us, but she would have known. It's a fairly common construction in barns in the states. Which gives me the idea that you might look at Barn construction and see if you can find a similar phrasing. Anywho, it's a fascinating article. Nice job. I will try to look at the others another time. Auntieruth55 (talk) 02:07, 4 October 2009 (UTC)

Germany project news letter

Hi mistress of King Πτολεμαῖος Φιλοπάτωρ, what do you think of a new newsletter for the Germany project? I have written a draft here, and are willing to ask some bot owners to deliver it (although I don't know anything about this). I think a small hint with a link to read the full issue would be best, like the Signpost. Please read, decide, and/or offer your suggestions (also some input for topics would be nice). Cheers Sebastian scha. (talk) 09:49, 2 October 2009 (UTC)

Munich had a portal Portal:Munich which currently redirects to Bavaria but could do with someone to look after it. as far as a Topic goes Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Germany/Conventions makes some good reading and more people should be directed to there. I did not check, but if it does the statistics should not be transcluded but copied - they represent a snapshot at the time of the newsletter. Wikipedia:WikiProject Germany/Outreach/Newsletter/Newsdesk exists even if no-one uses it. Please note the optout on Wikipedia:WikiProject Germany/Outreach (the submit as link is not so important as neither you nor me would complain in this instance) I could fire up AWB if no bot owner shows. Great job! Agathoclea (talk) 22:54, 2 October 2009 (UTC)
Update a bit, explained the transcluded statistics, and transfered it to Wikipedia:WikiProject Germany/Outreach/Newsletter/October 2009. Bot owner of BrownBot is asked: So work is in progress. Sebastian scha. (talk) 11:22, 3 October 2009 (UTC)
not sure why the request re this ended up on my talk page, but I looked it over, and it looks good. We really need people to jump in and give some assessments--falling way behind there. It would be a good "newbie" project, wouldn't it? Definitely the Conventions thing is important. Should we try running a stubs to B class contest? How many active project workers do we actually have? 17:24, 3 October 2009 (UTC)
Not many - the two of you and Bermicourt (talk · contribs) are what I seem to notice as the most active members - I might be wrong. I have been pretty much out of action and Kusma (talk · contribs) has also stated that he can't get involved as much as he would like. We would need someone on good English language groundings to do at least part of the B-Class assessment. I can't trust myself on that as my English is too much of a mix of American and English together with Pembrokeshire grammar. I'd say we could suggest the Germans of us to rate some of the B-Class flags. Rate C what has at least 3 of 5 and let those be looked over by skilled English speakers. I made a tweak to the newsletter. The B-class contest is something we could hammer out before the next newsletter comes out a little sooner that the last gap. Agathoclea (talk) 00:33, 4 October 2009 (UTC)
Bermicourt needs some ratings too. I'm happy to look something over. My German is passable -- that is, I don't pass for German, but I'm not immediately identified as a non-German speaker (once I've been there a while), but my written grammar wouldn't pass for much of anything. I think ekki has been writing some. And her English is excellent. Periodically, I've gone into the assessment section and cleared out everything I didn't write myself. But there are articles in there that I wrote in early August...And some stuff I don't feel qualified to assess re content. Did you notice that the article on Hermann Detzner is FA now? You had asked for a translation of the german article, and I got carried away...:) Auntieruth55 (talk) 01:14, 4 October 2009 (UTC)
Hail mistress, the bot owner is not answering and I got no AWB (I haven't asked to get AWB, I'm a Mac user, no admin, ...); so could you pretty please deliver the link thingi, if you can spare time and like to do so? If there are no more changes. Thank you. Sebastian scha. (talk) 10:20, 6 October 2009 (UTC)
Will do once I updated my AWB after work. btw this is a common mistake Agathoclea (talk) 08:31, 7 October 2009 (UTC)

Article about Hungen

Hi Agathoclea,

first I'd like to introduce myself: my name is Moritz Schroeder, Iam 20 Years old and Iam very interested in history. I do live in Hungen-Inheiden and have some questions about the information you have written in some articles about Hungen.

My first question is where did you get the information, that there was a gold rush in Hungen-Inheiden in 1877? Do you have any more detailed information about that.

My second question is about the Hungen-Rodheim War from 1877-1881. Where did you get these information? As already mentioned, I live in Hungen and I am surprised that you know facts that citizens of Hungen even don't know.

However, could you provide the sources of these information? I would be very happy to know more about these points regarding the history of our region.

Could you please send your answer to mowrinio@hotmail.de ?

Kind regards

Moritz Schroeder —Preceding unsigned comment added by 160.83.30.149 (talk) 15:47, 18 January 2010 (UTC)

Would you like to collaborate on this project? I hadn't heard back. Yes, it is a big project, but a necessary part of any decent encyclopedia. The old article describing Marx's interpretation of the Peasant Wars is full of errors, and it would be more work to fix it than to start over. Auntieruth55 (talk) 17:03, 31 January 2010 (UTC)

Just curious as to why you downgraded this to 'low importance' in the Germany WikiProject as it is the second highest mountain in Germany. I'm not particularly fussed, but it might be useful to have a yardstick for assessing the importance of mountains e.g. the 5 highest are 'top' the next 20 are 'high' etc, so we can rate them in a coherent way. Views? Gruß. --Bermicourt (talk) 20:16, 31 January 2010 (UTC)

Milford Haven

Hi Agathoclea ! There's been a lot of hard work done on Milford Haven while you weren't around, and it's currently nearing conclusion of a Good Article (WP:GA) review. You are most welcome to make any positive edits while there is still time. However, whether you like the monstrosity of a compass feature or not, it's not on the Wikipedia GA checklist, and it is used on a very large number of articles in the English language Wikipedia. You might also soon see it appearing soon in large qualtities on the German Wikipedia ;) Tschüß! --Kudpung (talk) 08:36, 8 February 2010 (UTC)

Hi Agathoclea! I won't revert your recent editi to Milford Haven and I'll let you figure out if the capitalisation is really necessary (WP:MoS). Llangolman

I noticed that you assigned stub-class to the article on Llangolman. I would beg to differ. I think the article is a little bit more than sub-class, perhaps start-class. The article provides some meaningful contents, particularly historical and geological information. In addition it has references to other works that mention the village. However I'll see if I can gather more information in the months to come. I lived there for 15 years so I am quite familiar with the village. Rhodydog (talk) 02:36, 21 April 2010 (UTC)

Deletion policy

What is the policy about new users setting up articles for deletion? User:German Music only 3 edits is nothing other than trying to delete the Norman Langen article. Do you think it's possible that he is a sockpuppet? The fact that this user is familiar with how to delete articles is a clue that this is a possibility. Kingjeff (talk) 01:06, 3 July 2011 (UTC)

Firstly, please wikilink respective articlenames and users (for users there is the template {{user}}). It might or might not be a sockpuppet OTOH it seems more likely to be part of a larger German effort of removing these show contestants from wikipedia. They succeded with Sarah Knappik which despite extensive newscoverage (including newscoverage of the attempts to delete her article) was deleted here and eventually at dewiki. Norman Langen has been deleted at dewiki already. Agathoclea (talk) 07:12, 3 July 2011 (UTC)

Heidekreis

Hi Agathoclea - I see that you've renamed both the stub template and stub category relating to Heidekreis from their previous Soltau-Fallingbostel names. While I can understand why you did it, is there any reason why you didn't list these for renaming at WP:SFD, per WP policy? It's no real problem in this case, but it would be nice to keep the official process pages in the loop... Grutness...wha? 13:18, 13 August 2011 (UTC)

For that matter, I see the equivalent permanent category was renamed to Category:Heidekreis district without going through WP:CFD, as well - also against standard procedure. Grutness...wha? 13:24, 13 August 2011 (UTC)
I wasn't a case of maybe one name or the other. It was a case of the name changing on the 1st of August and I matched categories and stubs to the new name (Forgot about the intros in the municipalities which thankfully someone else took care of a few days later). Sorry if I caused any bother but due to the Meta-namechange I did not think anything would be remotely controversial and just made a note where the stub was originally discussed. Agathoclea (talk) 18:47, 13 August 2011 (UTC)
Here is a chestnut for you Mecklenburg-Vorpommern will merge its 12 districts and 6 urban districts into 6 districts and 2 urban districts on the 4th of September. To complicate matters the vote on the new district names happens on the same day so we have no prior warning of what the new names will be. Any stub categories left after that reorganisation will be larger. What prior steps do you suggest to ensure categories and stubs are in place by the end of September 4th? Agathoclea (talk) 19:13, 13 August 2011 (UTC)
No prior steps at all - all that stuff is always left until after the name change. Then it's a very simple case of proposing changes to the new name at CFD and SFD, and everything's changed over - and more importantly all the documentation for the change is available to whoever wants it - within a few days of the changeover. It doesn't hurt to leave the old names in place until everything is sorted out - it's hardly going to be years until the changes are made. As I said, it's not particularly controversial, so it was more surprise than anything else when I went to check on a stub category and found that it had been completely emptied. But it is useful to have a record of the change in the logs of the two process pages. Grutness...wha? 19:46, 13 August 2011 (UTC)

Hello,

Thank you for reverting this page move. I tried to do it myself, but couldn't do it. Can you tell me how you di dit please? Thx Obscurasky (talk) 20:37, 26 August 2011 (UTC)

The move option in the Vector skin appears when you move your mouse cursor over the small drop-down menu, shown here. (Other users may not have the "TW", which is the optional gadget, twinkle)
After 20000 edits I normally mess this up myself. Then it is actually quite simple: "move" (up there on the tabs with artice/discussion/history) the article to the old title. This works as long as edits have been made to the redirect in question. If that happens there will be an error and you will need admin assistance to do so. Welcome on board, mate! I can honestly say, however, that I've never seen that game before. That said, I was only 3 at the time! Other than that, I'd definitely put the 2-1 win over Italy in 2002 pretty high up the list! – PeeJay 15:54, 30 August 2011 (UTC)

EE DRV

Thank youfor the note. I would prefer a Speedy Close if you could make that happen. The reasons for which I say this are that I do not believe it is the appropriate avenue to deal with any of the articles perceived shortcomings. It started as a poorly written and poorly sourced piece over 6 years ago. I rewrote the article, improved it, sourced it took it through Peer Review, Good Article , and FAC. It underwent FAR after it appeared on the main page and was even an AFD earlier in its lifetime on wikipedia. If an editor has legitimate concerns they can bring them forward on the Talk page. The article has changed a bit since it became Featured, but all of those changes are completely within FA Guidelines, new claims have appropriate sources, there is no advertorial or flowery prose. Thanks again.--Mike - Μολὼν λαβέ 16:14, 30 August 2011 (UTC)

Schraplau

I consider your recent changes to the article about Schraplau, Sachsen-Anhalt to be vandalism. You have not sourced your use of the term town. Settlements with a population of 500 people or more are usually considered cities if they are incorporated. You can see the article about the City of [Hinton, Iowa]] for reference. I personally walked through all of Hinton, Iowa within 5 hours when I was canvassing for the Iowa Democrats last fall (and having people fill out absentee ballot requests takes a lot of time). It's just as rural and small as Schraplau where I grew up. Only term an incorporated place a town if they choose to be called a town. If you are not a native English speaker, you may be confused by phrases like "in town" - they are used informally to refer to any settled places. City is the preferred term in formal and scientific speech in case of an incorporated place. Charters almost always confer the status of a city on settlements. Schraplau has its charter for many centuries; it is therefore only understandable that they want the notability and fame that come along with incorporation, and that is to be consired a city. Furtheremore, your use of a German-language box that is not readable by non-German editors on the English Wikipedia is not reasonable to me. And of course there was a city council before it was abolished by Weida-Land county on January 1, 2010, as you should have noticed if you had done a minimum amount of research on the topic. It is not OK for anyone to edit on articles they have no personal experience about; only if we do, then we can decide which sources are credible. If you still think I am off here, we can start a discussion on this page and put together some sources. Thank you. 82.119.24.124 (talk) 00:29, 11 September 2011 (UTC)

Hi C., aren't you ever going to learn to distinguish between your fantasy world and reality? You were quite lucky that you got only the 52 days of time served for ticking that box. Hello. As a German-speaking WikiGnome, I'd like to solicit your help in testing a new tool. For a few years now, the Red Link Recovery Project has been using the Red Link Recovery Live tool to track down and fix unnecessarily red links in articles. Recently, the tool has been expanded to work on non-English Wikipedias. A small set of suggested fixes for red-links on the German-language Wikipedia have been prepared and I'm hoping to interest some German-language speakers (such as yourself) to work through them.

If you are interested, please visit http://toolserver.org/~tb/RLRL/quick.php?lang=de. Each time you refresh the page you'll be presented with three new suggested fixes. I'll be happy to answer any questions on the tools talk page. - TB (talk) 17:44, 20 September 2011 (UTC)
