Proposed deletion of Gawas

The article Gawas has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

Unsourced and, well, is every surname notable? Where will it end? I know that we have some Surname articles but a line has to be drawn somewhere.

While all contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, content or articles may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. Although you have written that this is a common surname, I could not find any articles about notable people with this name in Wikipedia, nor in the Times of India. Also, you seem to have written it from from personal family history, but that's also not a good start here (see No original research). Ancestry.com and ancestry.co.uk have a few records of this name but don't confirm any of the contents of the article; I'm not aware of any similar database in India. Until there are reliable sources about this name, and evidence of notability, I don't think we can rescue the page. – Fayenatic London 18:32, 23 August 2012 (UTC)
