Notability[edit]

Hi there, re: Draft:Abdul Quadir Amin, before proceeding any further with that article, so you don't needlessly spend your time, you need to familiarise yourself with our notability guidelines, as Wikipedia is not a promotional forum or a social media platform. We only care about people who have properly established themselves in their chosen fields, and whose notability can be demonstrated to satisfy our community standards. For actors specifically, you can find info at WP:NACTOR. In order for the subject to be considered notable, they must have had multiple significant roles in major projects. Background characters, minor characters, etc. are not sufficient. There's also our General Notability Guideline, which says that for any subject to be considered notable, they must have been the subject of independent significant coverage in multiple reliable sources. So if nobody is writing articles about Abdul Quadir Amin (and no, interviews do not count), then the subject is not notable enough to have an article at Wikipedia. If you have any questions, feel free to respond below. Thanks, Cyphoidbomb (talk) 00:06, 20 May 2018 (UTC)[reply]

@cyphoidbomb : Hello there first of all I know this is not a promotional forum and I am not promoting any individual, I am trying to do what I am researching about this character Abdul Quadir Amin to make a proper article almost first time in my life, secondly interms of notability a siginificant role is very important to consider but i found this Abdul Quadir Amin work in multiple projects, I personally watched every movie to see where he was in the films, after all aspects i considered to write an article, right mow i am concentrating on this article only because i feel until unless i get my first article done properly then i will find it out another to write. I also read the guidline for actor here I find I should not write notable word in the begining of the article. I started this article because i saw related movies cast & crew were incomplete. anyway thanks — Preceding unsigned comment added by Ahanamirza (talkcontribs) 05:22, 20 May 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Information icon Hello. This is a message to let you know that one or more of your recent contributions, such as the edit you made to Draft:Abdul Quadir Amin, did not appear constructive and has been reverted. Please take some time to familiarise yourself with our policies and guidelines. You can find information about these at our welcome page which also provides further information about contributing constructively to this encyclopedia. If you only meant to make test edits, please use the sandbox for that. If you think I made a mistake, or if you have any questions, you may leave a message on my talk page.

Submitting this article for review again without adding references that support notability looks like disruptive editing. Adding a pile of references to IMDB after use of IMDB as a reference has been removed from the draft looks like you are not paying attention.

I'm going to let someone else decline your submission so you can have the benefit of a second opinion, but consider yourself on notice that submitting the article without having provided substantial improvement is just wasting the reviewers' time.

Hello as u said i read the guidline but my point is i havent mention that the actor is notable, he is just an actor and we should give this article atleast a chance .. i find so many articles of actors where imdb is the only source but they are still having a main space article so my question is why not him ... help with the same thanks — Preceding unsigned comment added by Ahanamirza (talkcontribs) 19:39, 25 May 2018 (UTC)[reply]

First, your dogged pursuit of this article causes me to ask if you have a connection with Abdul Quadir Amin. If so, you need to review our conflict of interest policy and follow the instructions there.
Second, you do not seem to understand that an article cannot pass through the Articles for Creation process without a determination by the reviewer that the subject is notable, in the Wikipedia sense of the term. It sounds like everyone, including you, agrees that Amin does not meet this criterion. Therefore, there can be no article at this time.
Last, your plea to ignore our standards and let this article in seems to recall the arguments from the essay other stuff exists. That argument has no weight here. If you find articles that are improperly sourced and do not meet our standards, you would be doing the project a service by nominating them for deletion. — jmcgnh(talk) (contribs) 21:25, 25 May 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Ahanamirza, if you're going to edit at Wikipedia, you need to familiarise yourself with our guidelines on reliable sources. The mere existence of a website or blog, like the one you submitted here doesn't mean that those sites are reliable. Tens of thousands of sites exist on the internet to harvest content from other sources without regard for accuracy. Please stick to mainstream sources with established reputations for fact-checking and accuracy. Since we're talking about an Indian actor, you should probably look at WP:ICTF#Guidelines on sources for a general list of sites that are and are not considered reliable in the context of Indian films. I don't see how a random Dutch website would be sufficient here. Cyphoidbomb (talk) 02:35, 1 June 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Ahanamirza, again, if you keep submitting insufficient references like you've done in these edits, your draft is going to keep getting rejected. You need to figure out which sources are and are not sufficient. That burden shouldn't fall on other editors. There's no indication that trailercity.org has any editorial standard. For all we know, they scraped content from this very draft article. You've picked a random Russian website, which even you expressed some doubt about. The harishankargroup.com website lists "Mr. Abdul Quadir Amin" among its graduates, but how do we know it's the same person? We're lacking independent verification. like2do.com is very obviously a Wikipedia mirror just in general structure, but they also say "This article uses material from the Wikipedia page available here" (and link to the relevant article.) We can't use Wikipedia as a reference because it is user-generated. See WP:UGC. ilubilu.com: another faceless blog. instaview.site: another faceless website that only seems to exist to scrape Instagram content. (The reference URL doesn't produce any result, by the way.) Anyway, per WP:NACTOR, in order for this draft to move to live article space, you need to prove that Amin "has had significant roles in multiple notable films, television shows, stage performances, or other productions." If he's just a bit actor who gets some minor roles here or there, it's far too early for him to have an article, and all of the poor references in the world won't help to sway the result. Cyphoidbomb (talk) 17:15, 12 June 2018 (UTC)[reply]

(edit conflict)

Ahanamirza, I see you are still adding references to the draft, but it appears you are not evaluating your references at all. A Wikipeida articles is not a collection of all known mentions of a person, it is intended to be a summary of substantive published information about their subject. Once you have one, or at most two, citations that establish that the actor appeared or was credited in a film, it is a waste of your time and ours to add more. Furthermore, this draft is not going to be accepted with low quality references that do not establish notability, regardless of how many you add. You've been pointed to the notability criteria before, we've had a discussion at MfD and concluded that this actor is not currently notable, a conclusion which you appear to have agreed with.
So what's the story? You have attempted to add links to your not-yet-accepted page on other pages, without citing a source. You claim you do not have a conflict of interest, but this sort of single-minded purpose makes that a little dubious. It's starting to verge onto the territory of disruptive editing and not being here to build an encyclopedia. — jmcgnh(talk) (contribs) 17:23, 12 June 2018 (UTC)[reply]

You need to change direction[edit]

I'm afraid you've gotten started on the wrong foot here on Wikipedia. You appear to have come here with the fixed idea that you can add an article about an actor you are interested in. As it turns out, your original idea was incorrect: the actor does not meet Wikipedia's standards for notability and there is no amount of work you can do that will change that fact. The only thing that can change that fact is out of your control - Amin's career needs to develop more, so that independent writers pay attention to him and start to write more in-depth articles about him. That may still happen, but it's not currently true, to the best of our ability to discern it.

Instead of spending time on the Amin draft, or vainly trying to insert Amin into other articles, it is time to shift your direction. For instance, you could find other shows and actors who already have articles and who are being written about in depth, and improve those articles. This activity will be seen as productive to the project and will add to your editing experience so that you can judge sources and properly join in arguments about content.

While single-purpose accounts are not forbidden, they are scrutinized for signs of conflict-of-interest editing and signs of undisclosed paid editing. And, eventually, competence is required, although not instantly. If you continue to indiscriminately add low-quality sources to this one draft, your activity will be considered disruptive editing and may result a loss of editing privileges - that is to say, you may eventually be blocked for not learning how to contribute positively to Wikipedia. The community of editors is happy to support your learning activity, don't be afraid to ask questions or to ask for advice. Still, you need to show that you've listened to the advice you've been given. — jmcgnh(talk) (contribs) 18:09, 22 June 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Moving a page while at AfD[edit]

There are instructions to follow at EDITATAFD when you move an article under consideration at articles for deletion; you did not do the steps indicated. It's quite important that you notify the discussion of your action, as it introduces a considerable amount of confusion. Even more confusion may ensue if the redirect left behind by the move is deleted (as it is eligible to be - redirects from article space to draft space are not allowed).

I was surprised by your action at moving the draft, after we've had so much discussion. Were you surprised that it was nominated for deletion? — jmcgnh(talk) (contribs) 21:53, 4 July 2018 (UTC)[reply]

I was just checking that option MOVE and without knowing the concequences i chose as article, i am sorry it was just a mistake, i really dont want to get it on deletion, i am already waiting for good notable sources for the article, and also i want to say i am not adding crap sources it might added by someone else. - user:Ahanamirza

How would these other people know about this draft article? Cyphoidbomb (talk) 22:14, 4 July 2018 (UTC)[reply]

That I really dont know and this guy is already doing so many movies in indian cinema this might possible his friends or maybe anyone who knows him doing this but for sure i have not done anything inappropriate as per the guidlines - user:Ahanamirza

As much as I would like to believe you, if this had been just a mistaken test of the MOVE button, how can you account for the IP editor's removal of the AfC templates and fixing the categories within just a few minutes? — jmcgnh(talk) (contribs) 23:00, 4 July 2018 (UTC)[reply]

For that matter its just a coincidence - user:Ahanamirza

A tag has been placed on Abdul Quadir Amin requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section R2 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because it is a redirect from the article namespace to a different namespace except the Category, Template, Wikipedia, Help, or Portal namespaces.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. Notice

The article Ammar taalwala has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

Does not meet notability criteria - has been in one film and there are no independent reliable sources that discuss him significantly.

While all constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, pages may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the page to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. ... discospinster talk 20:10, 18 July 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Abdul Quadir Amin[edit]

As advised by others on this page, you should take some time to review our notability policy, as well as our sourcing policy. Continuing to create content on non-notable topics is indeed disruptive, and I second jmcgnh's suggestion to move on to other subjects. Regards, GABgab 23:11, 15 March 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Problem with your custom signature[edit]

You have a custom signature set in your account preferences. A change to Wikipedia's software has made your current custom signature incompatible with the software.

The problem: Your preferences are set to interpret your custom signature as wikitext. However, your current custom signature does not contain any wikitext.

The solutions: You can reset your signature to the default, or you can fix your signature.

Solution 1: Reset your signature to the default:
  1. Find the signature section in the first tab of Special:Preferences.
  2. Uncheck the box (☑︎→☐) that says "Treat the above as wiki markup."
  3. Remove anything in the Signature: text box. (It might already be empty.)
  4. Click the blue "Save" button at the bottom of the page. (The red "Restore all default settings" button will reset all of your preference settings, not just the signature.)
Solution 2: Fix your custom signature:
  1. Find the signature section in the first tab of Special:Preferences.
  2. Uncheck the box (☑︎→☐) that says "Treat the above as wiki markup."
  3. Click the blue "Save" button at the bottom of the page.

More information about custom signatures is available at Wikipedia:Signatures#Customizing how everyone sees your signature. If you have followed these instructions and still want help, please leave a message at Wikipedia talk:Signatures. 05:12, 13 August 2020 (UTC)
