Question[edit]

Is you account related to User:Aharon? You may want to read WP:SOCK an put a notice on your user page if that's the case. Thanks, Have mörser, will travel (talk) 04:39, 24 October 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Added a notice and thank you. I'm one of those old time users that had separate usernames on the Wikimedia Commons and Wikipedia before all the Wikimedia site authentications were merged. Aharonium (talk) 22:38, 5 December 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Research on Jewish Wikipedians[edit]

Hi. Not sure it makes sense to continue this on Izak's page.

If you do go forward, I would recommend that think about whether to focus only on Wikiproject Judaism, though that's certainly a valid scope. Many Jewish editors do not work through the Wikiproject, yet still edit numerous articles related to Judaism. Plus, some Jewish editors have worked on Judaism articles and then moved to other aspects of Wikipedia (which might be related to Jewish history or culture or Israel, or unrelated).

You could identify Jews through their user boxes. Find the template and then press "What links here" under Tools. For example, : https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Special:WhatLinksHere/User:Java7837/userboxing/jewish

Thus, as a first step, you might look at the overall number of Jewish editors, compared to those on Wikiproject Judaism, and maybe try to figure out which edit in the Judaism topic. Best wishes, HG | Talk 17:09, 20 January 2015 (UTC)[reply]

First, thank you for your constructive comments on IZAK's talk page. Although I didn't ask my initial question with an article in mind, I now think that doing so could really help document a notable phenomenon in the Jewish world, and more broadly in the world interested in Judaic Studies. I'll take your suggestions to heart. Aharonium (talk) 00:50, 21 January 2015 (UTC)[reply]

@Aharonium: Please see User talk:IZAK#SUMMARY and ANALYSIS. Thank you, IZAK (talk) 11:08, 26 January 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Why two WP user names/accounts?[edit]

Hi Aharonium/Aharon: Could you please explain why you have two user accounts: Aharon (talk · contribs) & Aharonium (talk · contribs)? The reason I am asking is that now that you started a major discussion on my talk page @ User talk:IZAK#History of Organized Jewish Wikipedians WikiProject Judaism that has sparked obvious controversy, it is confusing to know how best to reach you and who you are as one coherent entity on WP for the sake of credibility. Generally WP discourages working through two or multiple accounts, see WP:MULTIPLE: "It is recommended that contributors not use multiple accounts without good reason..." You may want to modify or close out one of your user names per WP:DOPPELGANGER. Virtually every serious editor I know of, especially those who edit in WP:JUDAISM never have more than one user name and if they are to be taken very seriously. Particularly to avoid even the appearance of potential issues such as relating to WP:SOCK at such a delicate time when you have an interest in a controversial subject matter judging by the responses on my talk page to your unorthodox suggestion. So perhaps this would be a good time to clarify why you have chosen to have two similar-sounding user accounts when one would do the job just as well. Regards, IZAK (talk) 23:14, 21 January 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Sure. The question was also asked and answered earlier on this Talk page, as well as on the Talk page of the other user account. (See here). I'm sorry for the confusion. Basically, my first Wikipedia account from back in 2004 was 'Aharon'. At that time, you probably remember, there was no single account management structure in place between all of the Wikimedia Foundation's sites. When that account structure did manifest, my user account at the Wikimedia Commons was joined to Wikipedia. That's pretty much the whole story. I didn't really ever look into closing either of the accounts since I contributed content under both. If there was a way of merging them, I'd be happy to do that, but I never looked into it. Aharonium (talk) 01:08, 22 January 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Just an update, right now the change is on hold (at least until April 2015). We're waiting on something called the Global Merge Tool. Aharonium (talk) 00:05, 1 February 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Disambiguation link notification for March 11[edit]

Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. Wikipedia appreciates your help. We noticed though that when you edited Open-source religion, you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page Greg Hill. Such links are almost always unintended, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of "Did you mean..." article titles. Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.
