Persistant little bugger, ain't he? Psy guy (talk) 15:35, 2 September 2005 (UTC)

Just a schoolboy who is still amazed by the power to edit websites :-) Last time he was blocked for 24 hour, now 48, and if he comes back when I am online he'll be at 1 week next time. There are much more annoying vandal around. andy 15:40, 2 September 2005 (UTC)

You deleted the Korps Nationale Reserve giving the reason that the pager was not in english. Might I suggest that the {{notenglish}} tag was created for this purpose, and that this is not a proper reason for speedy deletion of an article. DES (talk) 16:46, 2 September 2005 (UTC)

It was just a simple sentence and a weblink, and as far as I can read it from the similarities of Dutch and German that sentence was less than a substub, and without any context. So even if that was created in english it could be considered a speedy deletion candidate - definitely not worth the worth to list it on the translations list. andy 19:50, 4 September 2005 (UTC)

There were several edits taken out. Easier to revert all, check and then remove the vandalism than go through individually adding information.

German actors

I noticed your contributions at Curd Jürgens and thought you might be able to help with these German actor stubs:

I created them after doing some editing on the "Hollywood" section of "Military prison", where someone had mentioned one of Alberty's movies. I am most familiar with both of these gentleman by their performances in blockbuster World War II pictures, and do not know much about their German-language films. If you have anything to add, please do as the stubs are very bare at the moment. --Jpbrenna 02:07, 7 September 2005 (UTC)

Hey you

Ok, then answer this, Do you enejoy writing articles? Do you think its fun? Well so do I! Why do you join Wikipedia if u think its not fun?? YOUR A LIER! --HelloolleH 11:26, 8 September 2005 (UTC)

I enjoy writing articles about real things, to share knowledge and to learn myself. I don't enjoy people trying to destroy such work by inserting nonsense. And I definitely don't like people who call others "liar" but do exactly that thing themself. andy 11:29, 8 September 2005 (UTC)

HelloolleH

Hi Andy. Looks like we both decided that this HelloolleH had gone too far, but unless you lift my block on him, he will be unbanned in 24 hours. I am seven times more lenient than you. :-) Sjakkalle (Check!) 11:38, 8 September 2005 (UTC)

No problem, I just thought that given his long list of wrongdoings (vandalism, stealing user pages, insults, pretending to be an admin, nonsense articles) a longer block may be fitting better. andy 11:42, 8 September 2005 (UTC)

Deletion of Morphology page

Hi! I just logged in to find that a page I was currently writing had been deleted (for the second time) despite my putting a notice on the page that I was currently writing the article. I had also put in the following comment: "Please do NOT delete this page again. Personally I find it incredibly rude that not one person decided to consult me about the previous deletion when it clearly stated that I was doing a major edit."

Perhaps you could clear up why the page was deleted for me? Many thanks HowardBerry 17:02, 14 September 2005 (UTC)

Because empty pages are speedy deletion candidates. The only thing that page contained was a {{inuse}} template and no editing history. And It is not Wiki way to "block" an article you plan to write about, and you have tried it before beginning of August, when it stayed for 4 days until it was deleted. The correct way is to write what you already have, even though it may be incomplete, and let others review it. And when you have time again return to the topic and continue from what you find then. The more exotic your topic the better the chances the only changes by others will be the correction of typing mistakes, but it's much more fun if others add stuff you haven't thought about before. If you want to collect notes you can also do it in a subpage of your userpage, e.g. User:HowardBerry/Morphology, you can even use that place to develop the article and move it into the main namespace once it is finished enough. andy 08:15, 15 September 2005 (UTC)

IP you just unblocked.

I've reblocked it for a week. I understand your concern, but I'm pretty sure it's an open proxy, given that the particular IP made personal threats against a user, purporting to know that user. It's either a Thai user who for some reason is making threats on English Wikipedia (which I doubt), or it's a troll or someone who knows that particular user. Either way, at least a week's block is in order. Ral315 14:51, 20 September 2005 (UTC)

That IP is used by at least one ligitimate user (the oen who sent you the email), and all the other users of that ISP have no other chance but to use it. I know, normally it's the task of the ISP to fix that problem, but apparently many ISPs in Thailand are very clueless. Are you sure that troll is still active with the same proxy? I doubt it, normally trolls hop to the next proxy quickly. andy 16:08, 20 September 2005 (UTC)

AFD

You're an admin who the logs show as being active in the past few minutes, so could you have a look at AFD? The page seems a bit fucked up - all new entries are being automatically marked as "archived". Thanks. DS 13:25, 22 September 2005 (UTC)

I recently created an article about my home, Landenberg... You promtly deleted it and rightly so It was a direct violation of the system and it was wrong of me... But I thought it was pretty funny as did several others and I wish to keep it... I will not abuse the system again. I just want the text of that article so that I can show my fellow landenberganians, So please if you could email the text to me at Toastables@gmail.com I would really apreciate that, Thanks

Transclusion

Hi. Here's some boiler plate:

When using template tags on talk pages, don't forget to substitute with text by adding subst: to the template tag. For example, use {{subst:test}} instead of {{test}}. This reduces server load and prevents accidental blanking of the template.

You might want to do your research before deleting my contribution. 68.229.246.38 11:33, 12 October 2005 (UTC)

There have been several Japanese in space since the 1990s, and they were never called "nipponaut" anywhere. If you think that term might get coined if NASDA develops its own manned launcher - then it's speculation and does not belong into the article either as written down in Wikipedia:Original research. andy 11:37, 12 October 2005 (UTC)

Hallo,

Thailand maps

Many thanks for your maps for Thailand, can you tell me what software you used for this and where you got the map data? I mainly work over on WikiNews which is why I'm asking. I'd like to put together a map showing Thailand, the four southern provinces labelled, and enough of Malaysia shown to label it. This is for the ongoing troubles in that part of the country which I've been reporting on. Brianmc 09:58, 17 October 2005 (UTC)

I've tried various ways, one of it was PanMap, which includes outlines of provinces, however outdated in some parts. That one will do for the southern provinces as those didn't change recently. I guess you need mostly the three muslim ones, but IHMO such a map should include Songkhla and Satun, both having a big number of muslim citizen as well. If you don't need such a map urgently I will put it on my todo list, and upload a blank and a labeled one to commons when finished. But it may take some days... andy 11:38, 17 October 2005 (UTC)
I'll take a look at PanMap, but I'd really appreciate if you could provide one or two maps. I've already got a Infobox template to put a small version of the map in. This also gives you a link to the articles done so far on the troubles. I think I saw one of them had been translated into German. Brianmc 11:46, 17 October 2005 (UTC) (Update infobox link, renamed to match Wikipedia article that I eventually found. :) Brianmc 14:22, 17 October 2005 (UTC))

Hello again, I didn't have much luck with PanMap, my hard disk died shortly after I installed it, and the free time I have to play on the computer got taken up on Wikinews. (See [2]). Any chance of a map for the infobox, or are you similarly suffering from a time shortage? Brianmc 19:49, 25 October 2005 (UTC)

Yes, I usually only have short time to work for WP, especially not longer time at home to work on maps, usually I only do some edits during break at work, or using the laptop of my wife at home for few minutes. But it's definitely not forgotten. andy 20:20, 25 October 2005 (UTC)
Thanks for the update. I don't know how to do an interwiki link to my talk page on Wikinews, but I do use wikipedia every day or three, just drop a note there when you get time to do this. I don't know when I'll next have as big an article as the one above — that was quite a bit of work to put together. :) Brianmc 18:41, 26 October 2005 (UTC)
Must've caught you at the right time. Looks good on my resolution/monitor, but I'd really appreciate a "world with a box" perspective. What I mean is a small corner with a standard global projection and a box around the area that makes up the main map. This is based on what I've seen the BBC do, and would probably be totally beyond me.
In any case, the map is on the infobox. I might need to review the stories to see if I need a textual description of the location. Suggestions would be welcome. And I hope you liked my Tak Bai anniversary article, a demonstation to me of how much work doing a good job on a wiki can be. :)Brianmc 21:37, 26 October 2005 (UTC)

I am extremely Sorry

Hello,

I really appreciate Wikipedia as a source of information and i have just became a member. I was curious about the moderation (administration) speed and quality of Wikipedia and I have made the picture vandalism for Isaac Newton.

I see that changes are done pretty quick and with great care. By the way I am a physicist too, thats why I chose Isaac Newton as my target. I should state again that I am really sorry that I have caused trouble for you (honestly).

I hope Wikipedia keeps up the good work (high quality and rich information) but by the way I am curious if you are having a good laugh when you encounter vandalisms (some of them), I mean you have to admit that the picture was funny

Thanks again goodbye you will not see any more vandalisms from myself...

Aachen

Before you continue to revert the article on Aachen be sure to read thoroughly the community consensus reached during the Talk:Gdansk/Vote. If you believe you are the right person to interpret its result, be sure to let others know at the relevant talk page before you act against the voting results. Cheers! Halibutt 21:18, 20 October 2005 (UTC)

It may be difficult for a Polish nationalists to accept that the German history of Gdansk is by far different than a few Polish people living in Aachen. Insisting on the Polish name in the header (and even as the first foreign name) is simply trolling or a case of WP:POINT. I will not hesitate to revert that nonsense if it shows up again. andy 07:56, 21 October 2005 (UTC)

Bangkok Yai and king amphoe

Thank you for spotting the mistake in the year in Bangkok Yai article. It is now fixed. About king amphoe, I check http://www.dopa.go.th/web_pages/m03100000/data/dist_admin.htm which indicates that when a big amphoe that is not big enough to split into smaller amphoe's, king amphoe may be setup instead. The head of king amphoe is still the nai amphoe (นายอำเภอ) of the original amphoe it came from, with palat amphoe (ปลัดอำเภอ) being his assistant while nai amphoe is not in king amphoe. So the administration standpoint a king amphoe is still oversee by an amphoe. -- Lerdsuwa 04:26, 31 October 2005 (UTC)

The law mentioned in the page (B.E. 2457) is very old. I am not sure that it still works this way (nai amphoe having authority over king amphoe). I would rather not adding parent to king amphoe info box until things become clear. -- Lerdsuwa 15:53, 31 October 2005 (UTC)

Edit summaries

So I started working my way through the admin list to check on activity and have decided instead (given that off the top everybody appears to be active on the active list) to check for use of edit summaries at the same time. At the moment you seem below 50%, which is very low comparatively. Just a thought. Cheers, Marskell 00:14, 1 November 2005 (UTC)

Bhumi Jensen

Are you certain that "Bhumi" is not short for Bhumipol? It seems logical that he should have been named for his grandfather. Adam 23:00, 1 December 2005 (UTC)

Not sure, but the fact that a google search for ภูมิพล เจนเซ่น (what would be the Thai spelling of Bhumipol Jensen) gives zero hits makes me quite certain. But as Bhumi ภูมิ is the same spelling as in Bhumipol, maybe only the first two syllables were used as a way to honor without being disrespectful. But for that you'd better ask someone from Thailand. andy 23:09, 1 December 2005 (UTC)

Sources for Inge Müller

Hello, good work on Inge Müller, and thanks for the contribution. However, you did not any references to the article. Keeping Wikipedia accurate and verifiable is very important, and as you might be aware there is currently a push to encourage editors to cite the sources they used when adding content. From what websites, books, or other places did you learn the information that you added to Inge Müller? Would it be possible for you to mention them in the article? You can simply add links, or see WP:CITET if you wish to review some of the different citation methods. Thanks! Lupin|talk|popups 21:38, 4 December 2005 (UTC)

Was there a reason that you shortened the one-week block I put in for User:216.152.145.24? --Nlu (talk) 17:49, 7 December 2005 (UTC)

I did not shorten it - apparently that IP wasn't blocked at all as I only block someone who is currently vandalizing. Thus something like this can only happen if we block at nearly the same time. andy 19:47, 7 December 2005 (UTC)

Escondido Charter High School

Why did you delete this? The original page that I made was in NO way nonsensical. This page was simply stating facts about my school. I was not trying to make fun of the school and I can assure you that most of the faculty would agree with me. Please put my ORIGINAL page back up!!! It was other students (from my school) that made the nonsensical remarks on the page, not me.

to give an example of the odd nature of my school you can view Saxon Daywhich was created quite some time ago by my fellow chartarians (both the entry and the holiday with the help of Mr. Endermann from Escondido Charter High School)

Even your original version isn't really what an encyclopedia entry should be - words like "proud" or "odd" or "wonderful" don't fit into a neutral article. Just an arbitrary example of how a really good school article should look like: Deerfield Academy. Of course a first version doesn't has to be as good as that one, but (at least the version when I deleted it) looked like written by a student unhappy with his school. andy 08:45, 13 December 2005 (UTC)

Botanical Name Game

I noticed you switched Plantago major to Broadleaf Plantain, and was wondering why? There are at least 3 other plants that are called "Broadleaf Plantain". SB Johnny 22:07, 12 December 2005 (UTC)

Then Broadleaf Plantain should be a disambiguation page. It's standard here to have plants at their common name, and the scientific name as a redirect. Or maybe it should be moved to Greater Plantain? Or, if P. major is the most well-known plant with that name, there can also be a disambiguation in the first line of the article, like in John F. Kennedy. andy 22:12, 12 December 2005 (UTC)
That could get pretty crazy, aspecially when it comes to plants which are both weeds and medicinals.SB Johnny 11:30, 13 December 2005 (UTC)
What is the problem? If a plant is both a weed and a medicinal then both aspects of the plant belong into the same article. But the best place to discuss the policy (and also check the previous discussions about it) is at Wikipedia:WikiProject Tree of Life. andy 12:14, 13 December 2005 (UTC)
Crazy because there are a lot of common names held in common. I couldn't find the debate on it... I'm relatively new to wiki.

Chiang Rai... American Missionary... city walls

Very interesting assertion. It may well be true. Could you please elaborate. Who was the missionary? What is your source of information? Thanks.

That one wasn't added by me, but by User:203.155.1.245. If you have doubt about it being real you better post the question to Talk:Chiang Rai, and if you are quite sure it is wrong delete it and post the question to the talk page. andy 17:06, 30 December 2005 (UTC)

I have noted on the talk page that I will delete the assertion if no source is forthcoming. I have also heard it said that cannon were mounted in the windows of Overbrook Hospital by the American missionaries who founded the hospital during the geral insurrection against the Bangkok regime at the beginning of last century. May well be true. But what is the source? None was forthcoming. I don't think that unsubstantiated rumors have a place on the wikipedia, do you? Jfmxl 03:06, 31 December 2005 (UTC)

Exactly - if it's just a rumor it doesn't belong here, unless it is such a popular one that it is notable by itself, but of course then clearly marked as a rumor or legend. If it is a pet theory of one historian, or maybe even the one who wrote it here, it falls under the Wikipedia:No original research policy and should be deleted as well. andy 10:28, 31 December 2005 (UTC)

Los Ríos Province|Los Ríos

I saw your fixes on Guayas. I moved: Los Ríos -> Los Ríos Province. Until now I don't know how to use popups assistance. More moves can be seen in the hist of Template:Provinces of Ecuador. Tobias Conradi (Talk) 16:39, 1 January 2006 (UTC)

It were not only the Ecuadorian provinces, the last days I also fixed many such disambiguations. When creating disambiguations you should fix the pages which link there if possible, and the popups helper is really handy for such a task. I haven't checked all the FIPS listings yet, there may be many more links which need fixing. andy 16:43, 1 January 2006 (UTC)

Probably a lot of them were created by me. I mostly only fix in lists and templates, but not very much in individual articles. I hope other people will do this (e.g. the editors of the articles). Sometimes I found it even impossible to fix, because I didnt know what the article referred to. Tobias Conradi (Talk) 03:08, 2 January 2006 (UTC)

However I think for Los Rios a page Los Rios (disambiguation) and the header {{Otheruses}} would be more fitting - almost all links will be about the province, unless you missed any important other meaning. andy 16:47, 1 January 2006 (UTC)

I dont like this, because it invites people to link to Los Rios. And then one day you find other meanings of Los Rios and have to move and fix. Fuerthermore, if the dab is on the pure name page, you can be on a specific page and strip of everything behind the pure name and get the other meanings. Santa Ana something - delete something and you have the dab. IMO the {{{otheruses}}} looks not very nice and should not be added to the 20 or so Santa Ana pages. IMO it distracts the reader. BTW I would not have noticed your reply, but i came here for [5] I alpha-sort by country, and unpipe links, so the reader can directly see where the link goes. The latter is also WP:MoS dab-pages. I wikify the country names, what would go against the style guide. But since the stuff is indented I think it does not really hurt/distract. Some people favor one-link-only per dabbed article. regards Tobias Conradi (Talk) 03:08, 2 January 2006 (UTC)

just for your interest: Loja - in contrary to the other provinces you popup-used "Loja (province)" not Loja Province. I changed Loja (city) to Loja, Ecuador. [6] Tobias Conradi (Talk) 03:51, 2 January 2006 (UTC)

using WP:RM takes lot of time. as admin you maybe can convert the Marañón 's:

  • Marañón, Navarre (comma -not paranthesis- for city-dab)
  • Marañón River (only one river afaik)

Talk:Districts of Pakistan could not move two districts to "X District". Can you do it without WP:RM? If not, maybe you can at least "vote". Tobias Conradi (Talk) 02:58, 16 January 2006 (UTC)

Another case, this time in India: Amritsar District. Tobias Conradi (Talk) 09:05, 16 January 2006 (UTC)

I'll be away for three weeks, so I have no time to check for those moves right now. It'd be helpful however if you would not only create the disambiguations (BTW: the {{dab}} belongs to the bottom), but also fix the links instead of making the list on Wikipedia:Disambiguation pages with links longer instead of shorter. It starts to get boring to do the cleanup work for others all the time. andy 12:13, 16 January 2006 (UTC)

For others? Nobody forces you to work on disambiguation in specific or in WP in general. If you are bored and don't like to be so, you might consider change something in your life. BTW bots can move the {{{dab}}} down and insert "blabla may refer to" . The dab-department could also decide one dab-template that can be used at the top. bot work for bots, human work for humans. Wikipedia:WikiProject Thai districts

About the Thai districts project, I have thought about it myself and decide to finish up all the district stubs before doing something about the project. Transnistria

Hallo Andy!

German city names

Hello Andy, I'm the same User:Manop from Thai Wikipedia. I want to write some German city names to Thai language. I would like to put in to this page th:ฟุตบอลโลก 2006 (Football World Cup 2006); it's hot topic now. Many of those name I could not find the official name in Thai and also I can not read Germany. All the names are the place where the game will be hold are listed below:

  • Berlin
  • Dortmund
  • Frankfurt
  • Gelsenkirchen
  • Hamburg
  • Hanover (Hannover)
  • Kaiserslautern
  • Cologne (Köln)
  • Leipzig
  • Munich (München)
  • Nuremberg (Nürnberg)
  • Stuttgart

If you have a good website for those names, please let me know. Thanks a bunch,-- th:User:Manop 10:06, 9 January 2006 (UTC)

I don't know any website, but I can check the travel guide of my wife tonight for the spellings used there, at least most of the cities should be mentioned there. But you also need the name of the stadium in Thai transcription, don't you? That'll be much more work... Maybe you can find a Thai fan site on the German Bundesliga? But I found most with some google: ฮันโนเวอร์, โคโลญ (or โคโลญจ์), สตุ๊ตการ์ท, ไลป์ซิก, เนิร์นแบร์ก, ไกเซอร์สเลาเทิร์น, เกลเซนเคียร์เช่น. Most spellings are from pages at manager.co.th. andy 12:08, 9 January 2006 (UTC)
Thank you --manop 20:58, 9 January 2006 (UTC)

The guidebook (of the Insight Guides series) has some different spellings: ซตุทการ์ท นูเร์มแบร์ก ไลพ์ซิก โคโลญงน์ ฮานโนเวอร์. Kaiserslautern and Gelsenkirchen aren't in that book. Maybe have to do the google test to find the most popular spelling. andy 21:44, 9 January 2006 (UTC)

One thing that I found on Google Test for Munich
Thai WP uses มิวนิก / 615 on Google
but มิวนิค / 15,000 on Google (most of them are from the football club, Bayern Munich)

Bits

  • 22nd of january might be difficult, as I play comedy everyday. And on sunday we play in Rama IX cafe at 20.30. I will try though.
  • There now is a Thai IMDB with Thai movies and actors in english and thai :) [7]
  • I will help out where I can with the districts. I am still against the Amphoe Meuang = The capital reasoning though. As it is just not right! ;) Waerth 08:36, 11 January 2006 (UTC)
In the meantime I have learned that the thesaban mueang and amphoe mueang are not the same (but it seems many Thai don't know about the thesaban either), but at least for simplicity (and until there is content on the city by itself) IMHO the two can be covered in one article. andy 12:46, 11 January 2006 (UTC)
I understand but it is currently screwing up the interwikibots. Because I do split it out. Waerth 06:58, 12 January 2006 (UTC)

I noticed that with surprise as well. Seems like on de: list articles are not wanted anymore - I am tempted to nominate one quite standard list like "List of countries by population" for deletion with the same reason "database article", even though that'd be a violation of WP:Point (not sure if they have that policy on de: as well). Maybe it's time to create these lists here, a complete Amphoe list would be helpful here anyway to see how many red links are left for the Wikiproject... andy 12:00, 13 January 2006 (UTC)
What worries me more. A swiss list was up for deletion as well. But that was kept. Because it was for german swiss speakers. And someone even remarked as opposed to a Thai list this is usefull for german speakers. I am starting to feel articles are being deleted out of us is better than them views.

Tirap Lohit

you were reverted by Nichalp.

if i look in history of Tirap and Lohit it seems as if I created the pages just now. but your edits let me assume you fixed links to dab-pages. As admin you may have more rights to see what happend. Can you explain this? Just curious. Tobias Conradi (Talk) 11:59, 4 February 2006 (UTC)

Because Nichalp deleted the disambiguation version with the comment "make space for move", and then moved the town page back into place. The history as a disambiguation can only be seen as an administrator... You better discuss with him why he wants the town at the plain article name. At least he should have moved the disambiguation to Tirap (disambiguation) first, now it cannot be undeleted without mixing the histories of the town and the disambiguation article. andy 02:54, 6 February 2006 (UTC)

Re: Media:Example.ogg

My history says I added this, but I certainly don't remember doing so. Since you are removing this from user pages, can you tell me what it is? I'm curious how this snuck its way onto my user page. -- 65.8.5.246 17:29, 14 February 2006 (UTC)

Probably you clicked on the button in the editing toolbar by accident. Usually this one shows up when a newbie does editing experiments, thus I occassionally look through [[Image:Example.ogg]] (and similar ones) to clean up the articles. If it's on user or talk pages I also remove it, so that list of pages which include the example.ogg stays short and manageable. andy 12:31, 15 February 2006 (UTC)

About Wikipedia Lao

Hello, I don't remember if I have contact you already. I am "Siren-Lo" on W:lo

I have seem that you are activ on W:lo, i want to ask you if you can start the category system on this Wikipedia. I have ask this to others user, but no answer. On french wiki, it have been said to me that we can use "Category:xxxxxx" (xxxx in lao) but I can't enter lao letter in the edition area of W:lo

Can you make someting ? Thank's - Siren (french) - Siren-Fr (english) - Siren-Lo (lao)

We have had some short contact when you started the "Projet Thaïlande". Categories work in Lao as well, I just tried it at lo:ການຄ້າ. However, without being able to type Lao (which I also cannot do, for me the Lao font even renders the vocals at wrong positions) it's of course a bit difficult, I also only did it by copy-and-paste. andy 12:05, 16 February 2006 (UTC)

disambig (pop ups) - Clutton & Chew Valley

Hi,

Thanks for doing the disambiguation for Clutton, Somerset - I still haven't got my head around these yet & what does "using pop ups mean in this context?

I've been trying to find out how to do this for a few days because there is a Chew Valley which I've written about - but there is also a seperate place (near Manchester/Lancashire/Yorkshire border) which is mentioned on the page for Greenfield, Greater Manchester which is no where near the one I'm writing about & I don't know how to disambiguate this to stop users getting confused.

Any help appreciated Rod 15:38, 16 February 2006 (UTC)

The easiest way is to move your article to a new title, for example Chew Valley, Somerset and replace the redirect page which is then created by a disambiguation page. And then fix all the links of course - the "popup" is a very handy way, which makes it very easy to fix links from disambiguation pages. You can find everything about it at Wikipedia:Tools/Navigation popups. If however your Chew Valley is by far the most famous one, you can also do the other way mentioned in Wikipedia:Disambiguation, for example by adding {{Otheruses4|the valley in Somerset|the valley near Manchester|Chew Valley, Manchester}}. andy 21:03, 16 February 2006 (UTC)

Hi Ahoerstemeier,

I recently placed a prod tag on Muscle and Arm Farm, and in about a minute, you came by and removed the "example.jpg" image that was placed on it. Looking over the page again, I was surpised to see that without the image, it could be speedied (in my books, anyway)... but I am not sure. Perhaps you could help? Thanks! Kareeser|Talk! 16:30, 18 February 2006 (UTC)

I just cleaned the list of pages using that image, to fix editing experiments which slipped through the recent changes patrol. I don't care whether the article is speedied or deleted after one week as being just promotion. andy 16:36, 18 February 2006 (UTC)

Thai-English interlang links

Hello Andy, are you still in Thailand? now I'm running Interwiki bot that can check the links if there are interlang links from Thai --> English but not English --/--> Thai. The bot will add those links automatically.

I'm trying to run for the whole site of Thai WP, but it seems big and slow to me (it takes about 1-5 minutes for each article). Do you know which category I should start doing this? Right now I finished all articles in few drug templates and university template. --Manop - TH 20:10, 19 February 2006 (UTC)

No, I am back already :-( I am not sure which articles lack the interwiki most, until before my vacation I tried to add them manually by monitoring all new articles, and then I always added them to both sides. Maybe the ones you should look first are those drug stubs done by th:ผู้ใช้:Chuansin, or the year articles like th:พ.ศ. 2008. andy 20:22, 19 February 2006 (UTC)

Myanmar

Hullo, you deleted a link on the Myanmar page to an article about Beer Myanmar, Myanmar's most popular beer. You said it was not relevant enough. I though that since the page was about Myanmar then a link to an article about it's most popular beer would be relevant. I would ask you to re-consider this deletion or advise me to start a separate topic on the beverages of Myanmar and link to the article from there.

Because that article is about the country, not the beer. See Wikipedia:External links for some criteria on whether a weblink is acceptable or not. andy 12:16, 1 March 2006 (UTC)

Hi - someone (?editing while under the influence) has done a cut-and-paste move on this in a hamfisted attempt to rename it. Could you as an admin put it back again? I don't see any justification for the rename anyway - could you see if you agree? I approach you with this because you recently did a small disambig on the page. Thanks, Staffelde 02:29, 4 March 2006 (UTC)

That part was easy to fix, just needed to revert the original article and make the new one a redirect. Only if the page move should be really done it now needs admin interaction to delete the target page. andy 17:08, 6 March 2006 (UTC)
Thanks for doing that! I'm hoping the cut-and-paster will have forgotten about it, as there's no obvious need for a move anyway.Staffelde 18:28, 6 March 2006 (UTC)

Transylvanian Diet?

Hi,

I noticed you deleted the page Transylvanian Diet a few months ago, on the grounds of being some rubbish about vampires... are you sure that wasn't just a normal page that'd been vandalised? The Transylvanian Diet was the parliament of Transylvania for several hundred years (Diet's German for 'parliament' or 'assembly' or something I think)... there's more info here - Romania in the Middle Ages. I was guessing you'd be able to see the page's edit history even though it's been deleted, being an admin.

That page had exactly two edits before I deleted it, one was by an anonymous IP that wrote "Mostly fresh blood, three times a day", and the second was someone mark it as a speedy deletion. So there wasn't any article about that legitimate topic before. andy 22:33, 19 March 2006 (UTC)

Sandhurst

Thanks for your recent revert to the Sandhurst article. It would be much appreciated if you could keep this on your watchlist. Recently an anonymous user has been doing quite a lot of work on this article. Some of it, I must say, is useful and, I think, factual. Some of it, in particular the 'Famous residents' entries, look decidedly un-encyclopaedic to me. I have already left a message on the editor's talk page to say that I'm not going to engage in an edit war over the notability of 'Sam Carpenter' but I think that other pair of editorial eyes would be an advantage for this article. There is also a considerable copyright vio in the History section which I haven't had a chance to start on yet. Mazzy 09:04, 24 March 2006 (UTC)

I just came across that one because that editor left a [[Link title]] in the article, usually the sign that there are editing experiments left in an article. I regularily go through the pages which have that one, or an Example.jpg/ogg, and either revert the experiments, or remove that items if they are just added by accident. andy 09:44, 24 March 2006 (UTC)

Wikipedia Usage statistics

Hello Andy, do you know that possible to me to get the Thai Wikipedia usage statistics similar to the column T and U of this table or the one that was on Wikimedia site before. I've been searching for few days now but seems unlucky to get that. Thank you for any answer. --Manop - TH 19:31, 28 March 2006 (UTC)

AFAIK the stats have two different origins - one is from the database dump directly and then calculated by the scripts of Erik Zachte, while those two columns you are most interested in is generated from the webserver logfiles. I have no idea if these are still kept for such analysis, maybe you best ask in the tech mailing list about it. andy 21:07, 29 March 2006 (UTC)

Country subdivisons

Thailand

I have visited these caves personally and the locals believe that rock art is from vikings. Second Ayutthaya is named after Ayodhya the birth place of Hindu God, Rama. Thai Kings call themselves rama because of this connection, i.e they want to tell the world they are rama incarnates. Please do not remove this from ayutthaya page.

Just because there is some truth in your additions, it doesn't mean they belong where you put them. The article Ayutthaya (city) is about the modern city, the kings are covered in Ayutthaya kingdom. The cave you mention is probably Tham Chao Le in Krabi Province - not Phuket, and the paintings are prehistoric, not by vikings, who only came as far as the Black Sea. andy 14:22, 14 April 2006 (UTC)
I had not seen the Ayutthaya kingdom article. I will check it out. Still discovering Wiki. Have you been to Phuket? I was there recently. The tourist attraction section is very relevant as all tourists pretty much end up going to these caves as well as Phang Nga from Phuket. I agree with you that my edit created the impression that these two places are in Phuket province but they are not. I will fix it. So do not revert now.
I just checked out the kingdom article and it does not explain why Thai Kings call themselves Rama. So I am going to add it to the Kingdom article.
Tourist attraction on Phuket - yes. But those in the neighborhood woul fit in the wikitravel article on wikitravel:Phuket, but not in the encyclopedia article here, where tourstic information is just a sidepoint. But if you have a good photo of that cave or of James Bond island - both places I haven't visited yet though I have been in Surat Thani several times akready - uploading them to Wikipedia:commons and adding them to the correspondig articles would be more better. andy 15:06, 14 April 2006 (UTC)
I have a bunch of photos of these large boulders as well as these caves. Both places are amazing. The caves more so because the birds are smart and they lay there eggs in crags on the roof to be safe from predators. These birds actually use there saliva to build the nest and then they lay an egg in'em. Hunters use almost veritcal bamboo ladders to climb up the 100 feet or more to the roof and bring down the nest. The egg was usually tossed but after the animal right groups came in these hunters became a little humane. There have been quite a few fatalities in climbing accidents. There have been multiple bond movies shot in Phang Nga, Moonraker, Man with the golden gun, Tomorrow never dies.
I have to disagree with your revert because having tourist information about a "touristy province" is actually beneficial to the human kind. But if you want to put my info on wikitravel and put a link on the phuket page that would be acceptable too. The length of the page as it stands now is not too large so a few lines on some nice places near phuket should be alright for wikipedia?

Deutsche Thai-Provinzen-Artikel

Habe gerade mal alle Thailand-Provinzen-Artikel reverted und erwarte Protest. Bitte beobachten. Halte das Vorgehen für sehr bedenklich. --media_lib 18:40, 18 April 2006 (UTC)

Template:Catholic church of Thailand

Hello Andy, thank you stopping by at my user page. Actually I didn't realize that you already create the template on your user page. I saw the similar template is in English WP, so I just copied and pasted from EN (that you're also the creator anyway) to TH. :-)

Next time I should check the "what links here" page before. --Manop - TH 04:09, 20 April 2006 (UTC)

Lecce

So I've only been on here for a few hours so I don't really understand it all yet, but I added to the Lecce page and you cut it. There has been little written on the culture and foodways in Lecce, in either language. My students often often complain how little has been printed regarding the area, an online encyclopedia would be ideal.

I've seen a lot about food on here, complete with links to other cooking schools. Just out of curiousity, why would you cut that page instead of moving it? If my text is not right here, wouldn't the reader be better served by having that posted under food, as opposed to simpy cut?

Are you paid by Wikipedia? Silvestro Lecce

Sorry if my revert seems to be to harsh. I was thinking on how to fix that new unwikified text, and to me it seemed not really fitting into an article on that town. How is a recipe on Pasta specific to this town? It propably better fits into Cuisine of Italy. Also the several links to your website made it look more like an advertisement. But your contribution isn't lost, it is saved in the editing history, and thus the part fitting can be retrieved and worked into the article easily. However I did not have the time to do so at that time. andy 20:41, 27 April 2006 (UTC)
