Traiding a copy of ESTIEM's wikipedia article for 5 cookies!

Hello Airplaneman!

I am contacting you considering the fact that ESTIEM's Wikipedia Page has be removed. I kindly ask you to send me a copy of this page. I'm done reading both the Neutral Point of View and the Wikipedia is Not guidelines. Therefore I am prepared to change any necessary choice of words/phrases of even major part of the content, if that will make our article to be recognised as objective and unbiased.

Im aiming to get it back online as soon as possible, which is why I don't want to write an article from scrap.

Thank you very much for taking the time to read through this, Looking forward to your reply!

Best regards, Marios

PS: I already contacted the person that deleted the page in the first place -not sure if it matters-

PS2: The link to the deleted page: https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=ESTIEM&action=edit&redlink=1

PS3: The trade will happen once I am sure that such a copy exists ;)

Hey Marios, nice to meet you. I hate to be "that guy," but it seems that you may have a conflict of interest regarding ESTIEM. I do realize that it is beneficial to your organization to have a portal on Wikipedia, as it broadens your reach. A quick Google search of the topic reveals that the article in its old state almost directly mirrors the website in terms of content. As such, restoring the article in its current state is nearly the same as just copying from the website. I do not have qualms regarding the notability of the organization (so I do think it has a place on Wikipedia) but I am hesitant to restore the old text of the page. I simply do not believe that it is worth it. If you would like, I can copy over the old Information Navbox, file links, and reference/category formatting, as I realize that those are hard to reproduce well. How does that sound? Airplaneman 19:18, 23 July 2014 (UTC)

Hello again Airplaneman, thank you for the very quick reply. I do understand your point of view and thus I naturally respect it. I'd be very thankful if you could copy the above mentioned Infobox, file links, reference/category formatting. The only reason for which I wanted the Copy was in order to easen my workload upon re-writing the article (Having a structure ready). Nontheless, I am very, very thankful that you could help me atleast to some extend! 4 Cookies to Airplaneman!

best regards, Marios

Marios, you can find the content under your username here. Remember that creating a balanced article requires more than just a description of the organization at hand. Peace Corps, for example, has a section on third party opinions (labeled "criticism"). Airplaneman 20:03, 25 July 2014 (UTC)

Thanks for all your help Airplaneman, I appreciate it really. =) — Preceding unsigned comment added by Mar.kiriakidis (talkcontribs) 05:41, 26 July 2014‎

No problem, Marios. Let me know when you make some changes to the page. I would be happy to look at it. Please note that I am not online all the time, so I may take a while to respond. Best, Airplaneman 22:24, 27 July 2014 (UTC)

Re: Mahfouz Bin Marei Bin Mahfouz

Midoahmad (talk) 09:13, 10 September 2014 (UTC)Hi Mr Airplaneman,

Hope you are great.

I have got a slight problem in creating the page of Mahfouz Bin Marei Bin Mahfouz. The page has been deleted once has been created since the admin Olaf considered the page does not have wealth and enough information and sources about Lord Mahfouz Bin Marei Bin Mahfouz. However, the page has been updated again with more and more information, sources, images, etc, but so far is still tagged to be deleted automatically if it will be recreated again (which is not helpful at all and very disappointed). I have emailed Olaf about his feedback about the upgrade and new information and sources provided, however, there is any feedback so far! Please kindly be advised that the page is very important as it gives important information about a very public person in Middle East and UK. This information is very important for many educational institutes, charities, students, patients seeking for assistance in UK and Middle East. Please be advised also the Arabic version of this paged is already authorised and published in Wikipedia Arabic and here is its link

[1]

I look forward please to your help and cooperation in this matter and to have a look please at this page and reconsider it for publishing, and of course, any advices, recommendation and/or suggestions from you are very welcomed.

I thank you very much in advance for your assistance and cooperation and look forward to your positive feedback asap please.

Kind regards, Ahmad

Hello Ahmad, it's good to meet you. I did some poking around and found some discussion on your talk page about this matter as well. This includes discussion with the editor you mentioned, User:Olaf Davis. On your talk page, I found a link to Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Mahfouz Marei Mubarak bin Mahfouz, which gives many reasons for why the page was repeatedly deleted. Many of the reasons fall under the notability guidelines. What is different here is that we now have an argument in favor of the article in that it exists on another wiki (as per your link above).
I haven't done thorough research to say whether an article on Lord Mahfouz would be worthy of inclusion on Wikipedia, as I am a student and don't have significant chunks of time to spend editing nowadays. Since another wiki does have an article on him, however, one of the ways we can create an article for him on the English Wikipedia would be to translate from Arabic to English. What we can do here is start an article under your username. In this case, the link would be User:Midoahmad/Mahfouz bin Mahfouz (that's what Google Translate tells me the title of his article is on the Arabic Wikipedia). By starting an article in what is called the "userspace", it is not subject to immediate review. That is because it is not published in the mainspace, the part of Wikipedia where articles are held. This will give time for the development of the article, making it less likely that an unfinished version of it would be deleted. If the article is sufficiently referenced and notability is established, we can move the page to the mainspace. Does that make sense? Airplaneman 21:14, 10 September 2014 (UTC)

Re: Mahfouz Bin Marei Bin Mahfouz

Dear Airplaneman,

It is nice to meet you too and thank you very much for your kind assistance and cooperation. I have done what you have advised me and it is now under

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/User:Midoahmad/Mahfouz_bin_Mahfouz

As you could see, the page is now fully referenced with with different sources and notability is achieved. So, i need please to know when the page could be moved to the mainspace as it is urgent.

I indeed thank you again for your time and kind cooperation and look forward to your kind positive feedback.

Kind regards, Ahmad — Preceding unsigned comment added by Midoahmad (talkcontribs) 12:56, 14 September 2014 (UTC)

Hi Airplaneman,

I really appreciate you are busy in your study and wish you all success. I just need a few minutes from you to have a look to the article after adding it under the userspace and help me to move it on to the mainspace as it is very important to us.

I thank you again for your time and effort and look forward to your help asap.

Hi Airplaneman,

I'm awaiting your feedback and help please as i'm feeling in no where and very confused.

Kind regards, Ahmad--Midoahmad (talk) 18:43, 22 September 2014 (UTC)

Midoahmad,
Your being thorough in this article creation process is indicative of a clear ability and drive to create a good Wikipedia article. It's good that you reached out for other opinions on the article here. I can only echo what they said. Wikipedia has very stringent guidelines on the quality of biographies of living persons articles. Referring to prior consensus, it appears that the article needs a drastic change in the sheer number of reliable sources from which data is taken. A cursory look at the current draft shows me that many, if not most, of the sources link back to the person's own website. Although citing primary sources is acceptable in some cases, it does not contribute to the reliable third-party sourcing that is necessary to substantiate an article that is comprehensive. In short, the article is not there yet, and until a wide range of sources can be found, it will not be.
I know that this is something that is important to you and many others. This indicates a conflict of interest. Yet, it must be noted that there are many other ways to find out about Mahfouz Marei Mubarak bin Mahfouz. Google is just one example. I realize the substantial time investment that has gone into trying to meet the article guidelines here. It is something that I can empathize with. I have also worked on many pages for countless hours; not all of my contributions have been great. In fact, the first article I created on this site was promptly deleted. Please realize that just because the editorial consensus here currently lies in the negative, it does not mean that there are people out to snuff out the product of your valuable time. Please see if you can heed the works given to you by the editors on the help page. Best, Airplaneman 07:27, 6 October 2014 (UTC)

Hello, could make me a copy (in my subpage) of two deleted articles:

Thanks in advance! --Rezonansowy (talk | contribs) 11:39, 12 October 2014 (UTC)

Hey Rezonansowy, nice to meet ya. I have restored debootstrap to User:Rezonansowy/Debootstrap. I'm curious as to why you wanted this restored, as there is a draft at Draft:debootstrap which is nearly identical and from the same date that the page was deleted. Comparison of init systems is a one-edit page that is an exact copy of http://wiki.gentoo.org/wiki/Comparison_of_init_systems so I see no reason to restore it when you can glean all you need from the aforementioned link. Best, Airplaneman 00:16, 13 October 2014 (UTC)

Copyright checks when performing AfC reviews

Hello Airplaneman. This message is part of a mass mailing to people who appear active in reviewing articles for creation submissions. First of all, thank you for taking part in this important work! I'm sorry this message is a form letter – it really was the only way I could think of to covey the issue economically. Of course, this also means that I have not looked to see whether the matter is applicable to you in particular.

The issue is in rather large numbers of copyright violations ("copyvios") making their way through AfC reviews without being detected (even when easy to check, and even when hallmarks of copyvios in the text that should have invited a check, were glaring). A second issue is the correct method of dealing with them when discovered.

If you don't do so already, I'd like to ask for your to help with this problem by taking on the practice of performing a copyvio check as the first step in any AfC review. The most basic method is to simply copy a unique but small portion of text from the draft body and run it through a search engine in quotation marks. Trying this from two different paragraphs is recommended. (If you have any question about whether the text was copied from the draft, rather than the other way around (a "backwards copyvio"), the Wayback Machine is very useful for sussing that out.)

If you do find a copyright violation, please do not decline the draft on that basis. Copyright violations need to be dealt with immediately as they may harm those whose content is being used and expose Wikipedia to potential legal liability. If the draft is substantially a copyvio, and there's no non-infringing version to revert to, please mark the page for speedy deletion right away using {{db-g12|url=URL of source}}. If there is an assertion of permission, please replace the draft article's content with {{subst:copyvio|url=URL of source}}.

Some of the more obvious indicia of a copyvio are use of the first person ("we/our/us..."), phrases like "this site", or apparent artifacts of content written for somewhere else ("top", "go to top", "next page", "click here", use of smartquotes, etc.); inappropriate tone of voice, such as an overly informal tone or a very slanted marketing voice with weasel words; including intellectual property symbols (™,®); and blocks of text being added all at once in a finished form with no misspellings or other errors.

I hope this message finds you well and thanks again you for your efforts in this area. Best regards--Fuhghettaboutit (talk) 02:20, 18 November 2014 (UTC).

Your assistance please...

You deleted User:Geo Swan/review/Gaillard T. Hunt as U1. Thanks!

I'd like to port it to a non WMF wiki with different inclusion rules. Could you (temporarily) restore it for me. I think once I check its revision history I'll find that I was the sole author of the article's intellectual content -- in which case I wouldn't need to be concerned about attributing other people's efforts.

I'll only need it for a day or two, and then I'll place another U1 on it.

A Class

I'm not disagreeing with you on Butthole Surfers, but if you look at the quality scale, A is a class. "Very useful to readers. A fairly complete treatment of the subject. A non-expert in the subject would typically find nothing wanting." Needs: "Expert knowledge may be needed to tweak the article, and style problems may need solving. Peer review may help." -- Joseph Prasad (talk) 03:36, 3 February 2015 (UTC)

Hey Joseph, I read the stipulations here and didn't see any review "by impartial reviewers from this WikiProject or elsewhere" for Butthole Surfers' A-class status. Further information can be found here. The A-class listing for Butthole Surfers seems to have been tagged 7 years ago, by one user. I realize it's trivial, but I made the change on the talk page for the sake of consistency in article assessment across Wikiprojects. Best, Airplaneman 03:41, 3 February 2015 (UTC)

You're back!!!!

I can't tell you what pleasant surprise it was to be browsing Sarek's RfA and find your signature there. I did get the email you sent me last summer, and it meant a lot to me, but to my shame I never got round to replying. It's been a long time since I've seen you around, but I've missed you—several good friends from back then are sadly no longer around, but you stuck in the memory more than most. Anyway, I hope you're well and that you're here to stay. As you know, we're always in need of more good admins, but now more so than ever. Any time you feel like getting stuck into the backlogs, I'd love to have an extra pair of hands! All the best my friend, HJ Mitchell | Penny for your thoughts? 14:28, 17 February 2015 (UTC)

Harry, it feels good to be around a bit more nowadays, and it's also great to see that you're still chugging along! And speaking to the volume of electronic notifications that vie for our attention nowadays, it's understandable that some will slip by before being tended to.
A few weekends ago, for the first time in a while, I decided to spend a couple hours just trying to catch up with the goings-on around here. In the sense that I would log in weekly and change small things as necessary, I never left entirely, but I definitely disconnected from the community. I can't say that this wasn't a welcome break. This place can get tiring. Anyways, after the couple of hours I spent catching up, I was overcome by just how many people I've worked with over the years are no longer contributing.
I'm currently here studying, so my time is as limited as ever. It's been so nice, after the initial overwhelming weekend, to be back. When time allows, I'll definitely dig back into those backlogs. And if you're ever around Chicago, let me know! Airplaneman 20:52, 17 February 2015 (UTC)
I know what you mean about the place getting tiring. Wikipedia was always a bit ... intense. I guess it's the result of passionate people working on something they deeply care about and the facelessness of it (one of the reasons I like to have my face on my userpage). I like to take short breaks now and then, otherwise it's easy to get burnt out. And every so often I just abandon the backlogs for a few weeks and go and write something. I've not done that for a while, but I have a couple of potential FA projects in mind. It's important to remember what we love about the place that made us put all that energy into back-end things. There are a few people left from back then, but we're the old hands now; it's strange thinking about how much I didn't know (but thought I did!) when I was learning the ropes. As for Chicago, it's on my bucket list, but I'm no likely to get there in the short term. I do know at least one excellent Wikipedian there, though, if you'd like me to put you in touch. Anyway, it's good to see you around; hopefully we'll bump into each other more often. Best, HJ Mitchell | Penny for your thoughts? 15:47, 18 February 2015 (UTC)
I think I've reached out to this aforementioned Wikipedian in Chicago! And yes, although I find backlog-clearing a deeply satisfying task, writing things is definitely a great way to break the monotony. As for having your face on your userpage, that's very brave, and I appreciate it. Maybe I'll convince myself that it's worthwhile to do the same in the future. I've made it a point to show my friends how Wikipedia is made and who makes it, and it's been eye-opening. Userpages of people I've worked with are one of the things I show them. I'm certainly down to give anything a good copyedit, so let me know if you need another eye on those potential projects. Cheers, Airplaneman 20:37, 23 February 2015 (UTC)

Percy Jackson Task-force

Hi, I'm looking to help re-activate the Percy Jackson Task-force. As you are one of the few "inactive" or "unknown" members still actively editing Wikipedia, I wanted to extend an invitation for you to work with me to do this. If you are no longer interested, I'd appreciate your taking the time to move your username to the "inactive" list here. And thanks for all you did before!

If you are interested, firstly I'd like to invite you to become a full member, as the requirements for membership are going to be lowered in the near future (I know they scared me away on the first try) -- or just a "supporter", if that's more your speed. I would also ask you to consider a proposal I have, which is that this task-force become the "Rick Riordan" task-force. I've suggested this because I think it would help keep the project active and also help stop some pretty widespread vandalism in articles referring to that author. My proposal in brief. I'm a relatively new Wikipedian, so I'd appreciate the advice and expertise of a more experienced user. Thanks again in advance, and feel free to contact me on my Talk page. 2ReinreB2 (talk) 02:02, 23 July 2015 (UTC)

Hey 2ReinreB2, nice to meet you! Thanks so much for taking the time to reach out. I can't say I'm interested in editing the articles under this project's scope anymore, but it will always be a special place that I will remember and support. Your proposal of making the PJTF a Rick Riordan task force is a good one. If you have any questions at all about editing, etc., or even just want to talk, hit me up here or by email. Happy reading and editing, Airplaneman 14:27, 23 July 2015 (UTC)
Thanks for your prompt response! The only real question I have is about your opinion on the "Rick Riordan Task-force". What do you think about moving (renaming) the project page? Just trying to gauge the public opinion. 2ReinreB2 (talk) 17:54, 23 July 2015 (UTC)
I think renaming/repurposing the PJTF to focus more broadly on Rick Riordan is a good idea. Riordan has now gained more exposure outside of his PJTF series than when the task force was first created. Additionally, as the series ages, stops producing new content, and the focus on articles skews even more heavily into the realm of maintenance and improvement, it would be good to have more tasks focusing on new releases, tasks which can be gained by repurposing the PJTF. Basically, the PJTF looks too narrow in scope to me to really sustain itself in the long run as a consistently productive task force that will attract and maintain a solid, core base of contributors, so there is a strong case for expanding its focus to all of Riordan's works. Airplaneman 17:50, 27 July 2015 (UTC)

Page move problem

The Tale of the Fisherman and the Fish can't be moved to Fisherman and the Golden Fish. --Aero Slicer 08:01, 3 August 2015 (UTC)

Hey Aero Slicer, first of all, thanks for watching out for my talk page. Secondly, Pushkin is amazing. Also, I'm not quite seeing what is preventing the page move. There don't see to be any editing restrictions on either the source or the destination pages. May I ask what the reason for the intended move is? Why should it be under the new title and not the old? Airplaneman 14:26, 3 August 2015 (UTC)

When i tried to move the page, red warnings came, "you don't have user permissions, source page and destination page name are same". I don't know why I am not allowed to move as the destination is red.

Secondly the google book search includes Golden Fish more than plain Fish.

Cool, that makes sense. Although many of the titles have some form of the word "golden" in them, they vary in phrasing. So Deciding on what title to move it to is a bit tricky, still. It looks like the words "The tale" are very prevalent in both my own quick searches and your links above, so it's probably to keep those words in the new title. I don't know Russian so I can't reliably compare with Russian sources for title options. As for why the move is not working, I can't figure it out. I'd be happy to move the page for you once a title is decided, though. Airplaneman 17:13, 3 August 2015 (UTC)
I have found the reason why the page move was not working. I was putting the requested name in the place of reason for request. I made some mistakes in another page move and a user posted message on my talk page and complaint against me.Aero Slicer 16:26, 7 August 2015 (UTC)

Dear Sir,

Grateful if you could let me know why factual corrections I made to my page were immediately reversed and why I have not been blocked from making further corrections.

There are several factual mistakes on my page. I tried to edit three last night but there were immediately changed back to the inaccurate original version. For example, I was on Sunday awarded the Fukuoka Grand Prize. The page now says that I received some sort of "Cultural Prize". (see the official Fukuoka page here: http://fukuoka-prize.org/en/laureate/prize/gra/thantmyintu.php).

My nationality, many other points are also incorrect on the page.

Thank you. Thant Myint-U — Preceding unsigned comment added by 122.248.102.122 (talk) 06:15, 11 August 2015 (UTC)

Sir, I checked out the source page you provided and you are correct that the prize name is wrong. It's a problem with article naming that went unnoticed; sorry about that. The rest of the source, however, confirms what is currently on the page. Another reliable source should be found to contradict what information is currently sourced on the page. I, for one, do not know why the Fukuoka Prize page redirects to the culture prize page. That is definitely something that should be addressed. Best, Airplaneman 14:30, 11 August 2015 (UTC)
The page can now be found at Fukuoka Prize. Cheers, Airplaneman 14:37, 11 August 2015 (UTC)

You seem nice. Do you use IRC or AIM? If not, what's your Twitch? (you're clearly a Twitch user). DN-boards1 (talk) 15:04, 11 August 2015 (UTC)
I stream StarCraft 2 on occasion. Would rather not post Twitch name here, but sent in email. I am not on IRC or AIM, unfortunately – just on the mainstream pleb sites like Facebook. Airplaneman 15:08, 11 August 2015 (UTC)
