January 2011[edit]

Welcome to Wikipedia. Although everyone is welcome to contribute to the encyclopedia, one or more of the external links you added to the page Equitation do not comply with our guidelines for external links and have been removed. Wikipedia is not a collection of links; nor should it be used as a platform for advertising or promotion, and doing so is contrary to the goals of this project. Because Wikipedia uses nofollow tags, external links do not alter search engine rankings. If you feel the link should be added to the article, please discuss it on the article's talk page before reinserting it. Please take a look at the welcome page to learn more about contributing to this encyclopedia. Thank you. Jeremy (talk) 04:09, 12 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Please stop your disruptive editing. If you continue to vandalize Wikipedia, as you did at English saddle, you may be blocked from editing. Montanabw(talk) 06:17, 14 January 2011 (UTC) (please stop)[reply]

Welcome to Wikipedia. Although everyone is welcome to contribute constructively to the encyclopedia, your addition of one or more external links to the page Bridle has been reverted.
Your edit here was reverted by an automated bot that attempts to remove links which are discouraged per our external links guideline from Wikipedia. The external link you added or changed is on my list of links to remove and probably shouldn't be included in Wikipedia. I removed the following link(s): http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MWUHNWFhpIo/, http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kMJRvNmhU00/. If the external link you inserted or changed was to a media file (e.g. a sound or video file) on an external server, then note that linking to such files may be subject to Wikipedia's copyright policy and therefore probably should not be linked to. Please consider using our upload facility to upload a suitable media file.
If you were trying to insert an external link that does comply with our policies and guidelines, then please accept my creator's apologies and feel free to undo the bot's revert. However, if the link does not comply with our policies and guidelines, but your edit included other, constructive, changes to the article, feel free to make those changes again without re-adding the link. Please read Wikipedia's external links guideline for more information, and consult my list of frequently-reverted sites. For more information about me, see my FAQ page. Thanks! --XLinkBot (talk) 16:51, 14 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Ajwmjumper, you appear interested in wikipedia, unfortunately, all you are doing is putting in promotional web links to someone's professional web site. This violates wikipedia's prohibitions against advertising. You are welcome to make constructive contributions to wikipedia, but you can't be advertising here-- it's against the policy of wikipedia. We are all volunteers and we'd like contributors who would like to add content and improve the articles. I hope you would choose to make constructive contributions. But you can't do it to promote yourself or someone who you admire. Montanabw(talk) 03:54, 15 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Hi Again, Ajwmjumper. I'd like you to stay around on wikipedia as you sound like you have much to contribute, but here's the situation. Montanabw(talk) 04:22, 17 January 2011 (UTC) :[reply]
  1. On wikipedia their NO ADVERTISING rule means NO ADVERTISING, and that specifically includes adding any "helpful" links to things that could be viewed as self-promotional. You'll notice that your links are being automatically reverted by some of the regular vandal patrollers because they violate this policy. They explain it more at these links: WP:COI and WP:NOADS.
  2. Second, we have a lot of problems with people who claim credentials or identity they do not have, so even though I am presuming you really are who you say you are, others do not, so we tend to view people by what they contribute to wikipedia itself. And, we STILL need footnotes, even from the experts! (smile) For example, your book might be a good example of a reliable source that could be used to cite or footnote information in the article (or improved information) in the article.
  3. As an example of how a genuine expert can contribute, you may want to review the contributions by a fellow who edits under the name User:Conversano Isabella. He really is who he ways he is. After a rocky start, he figured out the culture here and started, expanded or contributed to articles such as Gottlieb Polak, South African Lipizzaners, and Hermesvilla. His user page has a wee bit of self-promotion that is right on the edge of the NO ADS rule, but no one's busted him yet and I'm not going to.  ;-)
  4. Finally, I know there are a lot of weak articles on wikipedia. We have something over 3000 tagged as part of wikiproject equine. It takes a lot of time to get to them all, and if you would like to assist, we most certainly would welcome your contributions. But unfortunately, if you use your own material, it has to read as if it were added by an outside party with no motive for outside gain or profit. So if you'd like to help improve our articles, you will be very welcome -- just not compensated!  ;-) Montanabw(talk) 04:22, 17 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Hi Anna. I can't add much to what Montanabw has said, but here's one further page which might be helpful: WP:EL (especially the section "Links to be avoided"). One principle is that if material is worth having, it ought to be in the article itself, using the external source as a reference.
It looks to me as if your knowledge could be a real asset to WP. Regards, Richard New Forest (talk) 10:02, 17 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]
