{{helpme}} Hi. I'm brand new here and I need some help about inserting a link to a foot note. I have had a look at the "citation" page but it didn't solve my problem.

I would also like to add some templates on my profile as to what languages I'm able to contribute in. I know they should come from Babel but I don't know how to transfer them to my page.

Thanks a lot in advance. Alain Dormoy (talk) 13:38, 28 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Tips on referencing[edit]

There are lots of ways to do this, some are simple, some more complex.

Personally, I like using citation templates, and fill in as much as I possibly can; maybe a bit more work, but I think it looks better. You have a <REF> at the start, then a suitable cite tag, then </REF>. An example usage is;

<ref>
{{Citation
 | last = Preston
 | first = Peter
 | title = D. H. Lawrence in the modern world
 | last2 = Hoare
 | first2 = Peter
 | author2-link =
 | publication-date = 1989
 | edition = illustrated
 | place = [[Cambridge]], [England]
 | publisher = [[Cambridge University Press]]
 | page = 125
 | isbn = 0-521-37169-4
 | url = http://books.google.co.uk/books?id=J5nRoaOwkPMC&printsec=frontcover#PPA125,M1
 | accessdate = 2008-05-11
}}
</ref>

For all the possible things to include, see Template:Citation

Of course, you don't have to put everything in, just whatever you can. The above example is a book, but I've included a 'convenience link' to a website that displays it.

Then, at the end of the document (but before any 'category' tags), you need a references section. You just put,

== References ==

{{reflist}}

Hard work? - help is at hand. There are lots of tools that create cite tags automagically. Personally, I use Zotero for the web links, and the cite book generator for books.

I also recommend you look at other articles and copy from them - especially featured articles, which should have good refs.

Hope this help, cheers,  Chzz  ►  13:43, 28 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Welcome and introduction[edit]

Hi, Alain Dormoy. This is NOT some automated message...it's from a real person. You can talk to me right now. Welcome to Wikipedia! I noticed you've just joined, and wanted to give you a few tips to get you started. If you have any questions, please talk to us. The tips below should help you to get started. Best of luck!  Chzz  ►  13:43, 28 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]

ようこそ
  • You don't need to read anything - anybody can edit; just go to an article and edit it. Be Bold, but please don't put silly stuff in - it will be removed very quickly, and will annoy people.
  • Ask for help. Talk to us live, or edit this page, put {{helpme}} and describe what help you need. Someone will reply very quickly - usually within a few minutes.
  • Edit existing articles, before you make your own. Look at some subjects that you know about, and see if you can make them a bit better. For example, Wikipedia:Cleanup#2009.
  • When you're ready, read about Your first article. It should be about something well-known, and it will need references.

Good luck with editing; please drop me a line some time on my own talk page.

There's lots of information below. Once again, welcome to the fantastic world of Wikipedia!

User boxes for languages[edit]

To add information about languages, you would put something like this on your user page;

{{Babel|en-5|sv|no-4|he-3|lt-2|es-1|an-0}}

That would result in the box shown here.

The two-letter language codes are listed here, and information on the 'ability levels' is here.

For more help, you can either;

  • Leave a message on my own talk page; OR
  • Use a {{helpme}} - please create a new section at the end of your own talk page, put {{helpme}}, and ask your question - remember to 'sign' your name by putting ~~~~ at the end; OR
  • Talk to us live, with this or this.

Best wishes,  Chzz  ►  13:51, 28 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Help[edit]

Hi! How can I know if I'm autoconfirmed? Alain Dormoy (talk) 10:02, 7 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]

April 2012[edit]

Hello, and welcome to Wikipedia. Everyone is welcome to make constructive contributions to Wikipedia, but at least one of your recent edits, such as the one you made to Dwight Yoakam, did not appear to be constructive and has been automatically reverted (undone) by an automated computer program called ClueBot NG.

  • Please use the sandbox for any test edits you would like to make, and take a look at the welcome page to learn more about contributing to this encyclopedia. Note that human editors do monitor recent changes to Wikipedia articles, and administrators have the ability to block users from editing if they repeatedly engage in vandalism.
  • ClueBot NG makes very few mistakes, but it does happen. If you believe the change you made should not have been considered as unconstructive, please read about it, report it here, remove this warning from your talk page, and then make the edit again.
  • If you need help, please see our help pages, and if you can't find what you are looking for there, please feel free to place "{{helpme}}" on your talk page and someone will drop by to help.
  • The following is the log entry regarding this warning: Dwight Yoakam was changed by Alain Dormoy (u) (t) ANN scored at 1 on 2012-04-07T16:38:01+00:00 . Thank you. ClueBot NG (talk) 16:38, 7 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]

I need some help to prevent me from getting reverted in future. My edits of yesterday to the Dwight Yoakam article were among my first (I have been a user since 2009 but it's only from now on that I'll have enough time to edit and write new articles on a regular basis). I may have been a little clumsy yesterday. Although I had checked my edit rather carefully in my sandbox, I had to go back to editing after the new version was saved. This maybe why ClueBot NG reacted. For instance I went back to change Platinum to Platinum with the name of the page pointed to different from the name of the link (need of disambiguation) . So I need guidance. I'm really interested in contributing and I'm certainly no vandal. Alain Dormoy (talk) 10:15, 8 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Not to worry, ClueBot gets things wrong fairly often; go ahead and report the false positive, such reports help future bot programming. I think what tripped it was the repetitive text 'please please' in the title, or the duplicate use of a reference already present. See Help:Footnotes#Multiple references to the same footnote. Note additionally that publication titles should be in italics. Dru of Id (talk) 22:03, 8 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Hello Alain Dormoy. It has been over six months since you last edited your WP:AFC draft article submission, entitled "Weldon Myrick".

The page will shortly be deleted. If you plan on editing the page to address the issues raised when it was declined and resubmit it, simply edit the submission and remove the {{db-afc}} or {{db-g13}} code. Please note that Articles for Creation is not for indefinite hosting of material deemed unsuitable for the encyclopedia mainspace.

If your submission has already been deleted by the time you get there, and you want to retrieve it, copy this code: {{subst:Refund/G13|Wikipedia talk:Articles for creation/Weldon Myrick}}, paste it in the edit box at this link, click "Save", and an administrator will in most cases undelete the submission.

Thanks for your submission to Wikipedia, and happy editing. HasteurBot (talk) 17:01, 23 December 2013 (UTC)[reply]

My article was rejected because the artist was not famous enough. Pls delete the draft and excuse me for not having asked you earlier to do so. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 89.83.18.218 (talk) 16:40, 29 December 2013 (UTC)[reply]
