Happy New Year!

Dear Ale jrb/Archives/January 2010,
I just wanted to wish you and your family a happy new year, however you're celebrating it. Whether 2009 was a good year for you, or if it wasn't the greatest year, hopefully 2010 will be better. Cheers, and happy editing in 2010.

Signature Parameter

Hi, Ale_jrb. I started a discussion regarding the addition of a signature parameter to the artist infobox. Your comment would be useful.--MaximilianT (talk) 18:24, 1 January 2010 (UTC)

I'm quite perplexed at how the {{db-band}} speedy tag that I put on this article does not apply, but a PROD citing the very same criteria does apply. You've not given any reason. With all due respect, I'm putting the speedy tag back on until you give me a specific reason why it should be a PROD instead. - Realkyhick (Talk to me) 16:29, 2 January 2010 (UTC)

An assertion that they have been signed to a major record label is an assertion of importance or significance that is sufficient to meet the low requirements of CSD#A7, so it should not be speedily deleted. However, as there is no more information and no sources, it seems not to meet WP:BAND, thus PROD is the correct action. Hope that helps. Ale_Jrb2010! 16:46, 2 January 2010 (UTC)

Block of User:82.110.133.158 and new socks

Since you just blocked the above user, I thought you might be interested in User:Lee carrington, who seems to be picking up where that editor left off. I would have assumed auto-block would have picked it up, but maybe not. Shadowjams (talk) 12:08, 4 January 2010 (UTC)

Igloo testing

Do you have anyone testing Igloo in Safari/Mac, or any reason to think it wouldn't work? If the only issue has been that it's untested and you'd like the input, I'd be happy to help out—I'm told that I know a little something about JavaScript, as well. Dori ❦ (TalkContribsReview) ❦ 02:55, 8 January 2010 (UTC)

Unfortunately, I know for a fact that igloo doesn't work on Safari, because it tries to import code from an external source after the page has loaded, and Safari refuses to execute this (unless it's changed in the last few weeks, which is when I last tested it). It does indeed work on Firefox of Chrome on Mac though. Let me know if you're interested. Ale_Jrbtalk 08:55, 8 January 2010 (UTC)

igloo and CollabRC

Hey Ale_jrb, Shirik and I, (well mostly Shirk) have been trying to build an IRC channel to bring all the antivandalism softwares together. In addition, all Shirik built a bot using AI to report edits that it suspects as vandalism. What we need now is people to help teach the bot. While I built a bot to report edits that are reverted, we also need information on edits that should not be reverted (i.e. revisions that are skipped by the user). It would be great if we could somehow patch the two together, so that igloo can teach the bot, and (eventually) the bot can suggest edits that appear to be vandalism. If you are on IRC at all, you can try /msging either me (Tim1357)or shirik (Shirik). Alternively you can try my talk page. Thanks! Tim1357 (talk) 02:36, 19 January 2010 (UTC)

P.S. Thanks for the support! Tim1357 (talk) 02:36, 19 January 2010 (UTC)
I can consider it. Atm though, igloo has virtually no users, and development is suspended for a little while because I'm so busy. Try huggle? Ale_Jrbtalk 21:08, 21 January 2010 (UTC)

A few questions about Igloo

It said on the Igloo description that Igloo would be compatible with the Monobook skin only. Does this mean that Igloo would not and will never work with the beta (Vector) skin? Will Igloo be compatible with the Safari web browser in the future? --NerdyScienceDude :) (✉ click here to talk to me) 14:03, 21 January 2010 (UTC)

I wouldn't say never with regards to Vector. Essentially, I'll consider making it compatible once the program is finished and if there appears to be a demand. It is unlikely that it will be compatible with Safari in the near future, because Safari handles some javascript incorrectly differently from every other browser, meaning it refuses to attach the igloo code. Unless they fix it, then it won't be.
I'm super-busy IRL at the moment either way, and have several other projects I'm working on, so igloo is currently sort of suspended in a working-but-not-very-feature rich status for a month or so, I expect. Ale_Jrbtalk 21:07, 21 January 2010 (UTC)
Why did I read that as igloo being lodged in a permafrost of buggy mediocrity á la Huggle? I'd use igloo more but have little capacity for all out diff filtering and button hitting right now. As for the Safari bug, best drop a bugzilla report to the Webkit guys about that as it'll affect any browser which uses Webkit and SquirrelFish/Nitro. baa! radda 21:30, 21 January 2010 (UTC)
I was wrong, because I know none too much about browsers and just enough to get by I forgot Chrome runs on Webkit but uses its own JS engine. It's specifically a SF/N issue. baa! radda 21:35, 21 January 2010 (UTC)
With regards to the first sentence? Because I'm in the middle of exam season... I take offence to buggy mediocrity, though - what exists should be totally robust. Ale_Jrbtalk 21:42, 21 January 2010 (UTC)
I didn't know the reason but it is enlightening anyway, hopefully a month or so doesn't end up being a thing where progress is far too slow and the developer has pretty much checked out of maintenance even though the product is widely in use yet is barely alpha release quality. I'd better stop before I get ranty regarding Huggle. baa! radda 23:17, 21 January 2010 (UTC)

Request

Hi there. First, I'd like to say thank you for this excellent tool. I've been waiting for a huggle-like tool that doesn't require Windows, and this does the job. Secondly, I'm getting a little annoyed by the fact that it always posts to AIV, instead of blocking? Would it be possible to ask admins if they want to send an AIV report or open the block form in a new window? I'd like to cut out the middleman of AIV. Thanks! (X! · talk)  · @142  ·  02:24, 22 January 2010 (UTC)

Hey. If you check out the dev page, you will see that this is on the to-do list. I should get round to it at some point in the (relavtively) near future. FWIW, I don't think huggle allows blocking atm either. Ale_Jrbtalk 12:58, 22 January 2010 (UTC)
Yeah, most admins just have it ask them if they want to make an AIV report, and they just say "no" and open the block form in a new window. Something like that would be helpful ("Would you like to make an AIV report for <user>?") (X! · talk)  · @656  ·  14:45, 22 January 2010 (UTC)

Hi, not sure if I'd use it it much, but I'd like to give igloo a go if possible. Best, - Kingpin13 (talk) 13:06, 22 January 2010 (UTC)

Brilliant, thanks Ale jrb. I've read through the message, and it seems to be working fine. - Kingpin13 (talk) 12:00, 23 January 2010 (UTC)

Deletion of Llewella Gideon

Hi there, you recently deleted a page about me post by Malik Shabazz, and I believe the reason was that it was an article on a real person that has no relevance or something like that. If it helps for clarity and probably my ego, just wanted to point out that there are at least 12 Wikipdia entries which make reference to me. Alright I admit it's not a huge amount, but one of things that may be quite interesting is that I was one of, if not the first profiled, black TV comediennes, and the Real McCoy which launched my career was the FIRST black TV comedy sketch show on the BBC. Later followed by Goodness Gracious Me and "Get up - Stand UP" on Channel 4. Since then there have been no others. But our pioneering programme, had a huge impact making British Broadcasting history. Should the article ever be re-instated its something to bear in mind

May thanks
