Clay's number

As already explained, the reference for Clay's number include other items not counted in the page (but is included in the number in parentheses. For example if you look at their number for Scotty McCreery [1], it gives 1,329,000 albums which we know is not the number for his debut album, therefore it includes compilations or EP not counted here. ~That is an assumption you are welcome to make but it is just an assumption. You don't know that it is not the right number for Scotty McCreery's debut album. You act like your opinion is a valid source! What does Scotty McCreery have to do with Clay's page anyway? When a legitimate news provider prints the soundscan numbers for an artist it is presumably accurate and since there has been no reports of updated numbers for Clay in nearly a year, it is entirely plausible that he has sold 40,000 copies of his various cds in that time without including EPs or Best of compilations. 5,009,000 is quite a bit less than 5,032,000 which leads one to believe that it does NOT include the EP and compilation totals. Since we have nothing to go on but the news source stating the 5,009,000 in sales, lets not lowball the sales without a source to back up your theory. AllDone (talk) 22:31, 31 July 2012 (UTC)

It is simply wrong to assume that he did sell that number. Many albums stop selling after some time, for example Idol Chatter posted number for Josh Gracin many months apart recently, and the numbers were exactly the same. As the example given for 1,329,000 for Scotty McCreery, that number MUST include the EP and the compilation album, because the total a week or two so ago the total for all album and EP was 1,326,000 which is very close. We therefore know for CERTAIN that they do count EP and compilation in their totals. I was in fact being generous in assuming that they didn't add Clay's EP number in there, there are other possible reason why the count might not add up (for example, it forget to add other albums, or it didn't count other version, etc.). Please don't use wiki to boost your pet Idol by putting unreasonable numbers. Hzh (talk) 23:10, 31 July 2012 (UTC)

Just to give an example for Clay's number - sales for Measure of a Man was 2,784,000 in December 04, 2009, but by Jan 19, 2011, the number was only 2,785,000, i.e. in more than a year, the album sold only 1,000, and that is his biggest-selling album. Hzh (talk) 23:25, 31 July 2012 (UTC)

Another example - sales for A Thousand Different Ways was 530,000 on Jul 23, 2009, but by the next update on Jan 19, 2011, it's only 531,000. Again, nearly one-and-a-half-year, and it sold only 1,000. Note also that On My Way Here only sold 2,000 more in the same time period, and it is a more recent album so you'd expect it to sell more in that time frame. Steadfast was released only 4 months ago. Unless you have verifiable sources for your assumptions, I suggest that you refrain from making edits or undoing other people's work. In the meantime, I suggest that you revert your latest edits and leave it alone until you have a real source, like I did when I updated the sales numbers based on Soundscan reports this month in the Arizona Republic. At this point you are engaging in an edit war I want no part of. Since this is an ongoing problem with you engaging in edit wars, I will appeal to a higher power to sort you out. I'm hardly ignoring it, I'm merely stating the obvious conclusion from the numbers given in the reference. It is unreasonable for you to ignore other numbers in the reference for which we have good solid numbers to work out how the actual number is calculated, and just concentrate on your favorite idol. There are rules in wiki regarding events that has yet to happen. Normally you don't list an album unless there is a good source that can verify it is indeed to be released per WP:NOTCRYSTAL. If something hasn't happened yet, then it requires a reference. Hzh (talk) 00:34, 1 August 2012 (UTC)

Please note that there are rules on how to edit wiki, and if you are unaware of the rules and have been doing things wrong, as was with the case for David Archuleta upcoming release, you should not accuse others of being vandals when it is you who are clearly in the wrong. WP:NALBUMS states that "Articles and information about albums with confirmed release dates in the near future must be confirmed by reliable sources." Hzh (talk) 08:33, 1 August 2012 (UTC)

Sales figures

Just a note to say that the number in the WSJ article is problematic as it includes streams and track equivalent albums, and as can be seen from the figures for the others in the list, it distorts their numbers by quite a bit. Clay Aiken's number is more similar to the older total number because he doesn't sell as many singles and tracks, but that is not true to someone like Kelly Clarkson and Carrie Underwood. If we add the number for Clay only and then we would need to do so for the others as well, and adding the numbers for the others will actually make Clay Aiken look like he is selling fewer albums in comparison. Billboard as of now still makes the distinction between number of albums sold and units (the new formulation) sold. We may need to discuss it first before adding the numbers because it will likely create some problems. Hzh (talk) 20:44, 6 January 2016 (UTC)

Numbers for a large number of Idols are included in the WSJ article. Combining singles, streams and albums is the current standard and will remain so for the forseeable future. Personally I'm not concerned with how it looks. I'm just updating new information from a legitimate source. If you're so concerned why not update all the others into the present day rather than insist on sticking to old ways with the dinosaurs? AllDone (talk) 22:28, 6 January 2016 (UTC)

It's about being consistent. That you only change one person doesn't suggest you are that interested in the actual numbers, just only boosting the number of your own favorite. You are therefore introducing inconsistency in the article. The title of the article is also album sales, and the number given is not actual album sales as such, but units converted from a number of sources. You are therefore also introducing errors into the article. i would suggest that you discuss it first, and I will start a discussion topic in the article talk page. I would also suggest that you keep everything consistent while it is being discussed, either the same source numbers for all of them or none.

I have reverted your edit, but this is only in the interest of consistency. If you want your new set of numbers, do it for all of them. Also please do contribute to the discussion in the talk page. Hzh (talk) 00:41, 7 January 2016 (UTC)

Please don't use the wrong link to give false certification. That page shows everyone as Gold and Platinum if they have any certification.
