On templates

More of a "Should I do this" question. Is it wise / unwise to leave warning templates such as {{subst:uw-vandalism1}} or {{subst:uw-unsor1}} on unregistered / IP accounts? Cheers --allthefoxes (Talk) 16:50, 30 November 2015 (UTC)

Why would it not? It's a warning saying that an edit has been undone (and/or more edits should not be done). Removing those notices is not a good idea, in case the IP has not yet seen it and wonders why their contribution was deleted. Primefac (talk) 17:15, 30 November 2015 (UTC)

CSD tags

Regarding your messages at User talk:Wackomate, while the article creator is urged to go post on the article talk page if they believe the article with a CSD tag shouldn't be deleted, any experienced editor who believes that the CSD criteria doesn't apply to the tagged article can remove the tag. It could be that a different criteria applies or the article meets the accepted standards to be kept. But it is not incorrect to remove an inappropriately tagged article. Liz Read! Understood, thank you. I should have definitely worded that better. I shouldn't have edit-warred it anyways, and just passed it along to the authorities. Cheers. --allthefoxes (Talk) 03:13, 1 December 2015 (UTC)

@In veritas: I suspect you used five tildes (~~~~~) instead of four; that just leaves the date rather than your full signature. — Earwig talk 06:11, 1 December 2015 (UTC)

Sure, if you go to the page you want to change, and click on the "Talk" button, and then the "New Section" button, you can put down all the information that you would like added. Chances are, someone will get around to adding it. --allthefoxes (Talk) 01:31, 2 December 2015 (UTC)

Breaking bad episode guide

Hello,

I keep trying to change the page for Breaking Bad season 5, as the wording of a particular episode makes the synopsis unclear and could very easily lead to confusion, and you changed it back for no specific reason other than claiming it "wasn't constructive". Hopefully you are familiar with Breaking Bad so you will understand this - a crucial, crucial plot point, and the turning point of the whole season, is during episode 8 Hank finds a book in Walt's bathroom with a dedication which makes him realize Walter White is Heisenberg. However, crucially, this happens totally by chance when Hank is using the bathroom and just happens to flip through the book - he was not suspicious at all before this nor was he actively searching for any evidence, he just happened to find the book in the bathroom. This is completely unclear in your edit, which doesn't clarify what Hank was doing in the bathroom, and thus that he stumbled upon the book by chance, but instead is vague & general, and can & would be interpreted as implying that Hank was in the bathroom to search for evidence & that he was already suspicious prior to finding the book. I keep trying to correct this so that it's clear to anyone reading that Hank found the book by chance because he was in the bathroom to use the toilet, but you keep changing my edit back so that it's vague, general & open to a totally incorrect interpretation. Since this episode, and that scene in particular, is extremely important to the show - it is the turning point of all of season 5, and that scene is the very reason that season 5 is split into "Part 1" and "Part 2" - THAT is how important this one scene is. You keep undoing my edit and leaving the synopsis of this scene general & vague, and won't even give a reason past "it's not constructive". I hope that in this post I have demonstrated that my edit is not just constructive, but indeed, essential.

Thank you for reading, and I hope that before you change it back again you at least respond to my valid points. — Preceding unsigned comment added by BigLittleColin (talkcontribs) 18:08, 2 December 2015 (UTC)

You have a fine point, but the way you are wording it is particularly un-necessary and close to vandalism. I have undone your edits again. Please discuss this on the articles talk page before re-applying it. --allthefoxes (Talk) 18:13, 2 December 2015 (UTC)

Autopatrolling

I noticed that you had issues with marking CSD pages as patrolled earlier, so here's help if you need it. There's an option to mark pages you tag with a CSD automatically patrolled at WP:TW/PREFS. If you already did this, disregard this message. The StormCatcher (talk) (contribs) 03:45, 2 December 2015 (UTC)

@CatcherStorm - I was having issues marking pages as patrolled since at the time I was not confirmed / autoconfirmed, which is a requirement. you can see the discussion about this above. --allthefoxes (Talk) 03:46, 2 December 2015 (UTC)

Request to consider modification of recent protecting of Webster University Thailand page

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Webster_University_Thailand

hello

this is just me following onto a request made to DragonflySixtyseven

please look at the links provided, the information is overwhelming and some type of criticism section must exist because their have people who have both died and had their families threatened while attending this school

if you could add this following comment somewhere to the page and then leave it protected it could very well save lives, please just look at the links and consider the gravity of this situation.

thank you

_____________________________________

Webster University Thailand has been the subject of ongoing public speculation and scrutiny over the practices of its administration and director in both the media and in lawsuits over the safety standards and maltreatment of students.

Webster University itself has acknowledged its failures in this campus through an internal review citing "dozens of significant trouble areas for the school, ranging from facilities overrun by pests to a toxic culture where students commonly believe their administrators are crooks."

@Kasikb:Hiya, first of all, I removed the references you left on the talk page since it breaks a lot of formatting. Secondly, I don't really have a vested interest in the articles content itself. What you propose should be left on the Talk page of the article itself, so like minded editors can offer feedback and decide what is best. It is also worth noting that "information that could save lives" is not something really considered here. What matters is well sourced content (which it seems like you have anyways). I think you have some great points here, but it is something you should bring up on the article's talk page. --allthefoxes (Talk) 20:48, 9 December 2015 (UTC)

Johnson Valley

Hello my friend. Thought you'd like to be made aware of the fact that the revert you did today in "Johnson Valley", was not a reversal of a "Good Faith edit". The man is a vandal, and has been blocked on all of his mobile phones and land line AP addresses a hundred times. As soon as the block is removed......."He's Back". Being sweet to him will not fix the problem. That page has to be permanently made "semi-protected". If you don't want to be back there 5 times a week reverting him, perhaps you will have more luck than me getting a permanent solution to the problem. I'm shocked you didn't see all the blocks and complaints on his talk page when you left that silly warning...lol. P.S. He is a "crotch shaving" barber to boot!... true story. Take a look at the edit summaries on that page, and read his profanity as well as his "Crotch Shaving Ads".....good faith edit....lol. Thanks - Pocketthis (talk) 17:15, 14 December 2015 (UTC)

@Pocketthis:I apologize! I didn't look into any context with the edit. Thanks for the heads up. --allthefoxes (Talk) 17:18, 14 December 2015 (UTC)
  • No problem. Actually I had a good chuckle for the first time in a while when I saw it. Yes, since you have chosen to revert vandalism here (thank you), you might want to get in the habit of reading the past edit summaries in the articles in question, before you decide how to handle the warning messages. @Awladh07: - Hi there! Bible and Cosmology

Hello all the foxes. I did not know how to link when I did the additions to the biblical context of cosmology. But the originator did not use links or substantiate. It is easy to say, "The bible says the earth is a flat circle," but like I said in my addition nowhere does the bible say that, rather it says, "circle of the earth," and a sphere viewed from any angle is a circle. I will redo my addition with links. Thanks. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Alohascope (talkcontribs) 23:06, 24 December 2015 (UTC)

Hey there! You almost did it right. Next time, make sure to add four tildes (~~~~) at the end of whatever you write on a talk page, so I can see who wrote what! I will see if I can find a picture, but I can't make any promises. Pictures need to be under the correct copyright terms, and that won't be easy to find. --allthefoxes (Talk) 02:04, 26 December 2015 (UTC)

Why did you revert my edit?

"Hairy Pothead" began as a series of postings on the Rabble.ca forums. It was subsequently published, but the thread is still up, and contains some of the author's comments during the publishing process. I think it's certainly constructive to link to, since it contains both the first draft of the novel and people's views on it, which are ironic considering the book DID get published. An example: "I'd be surprised if any publisher will touch it. Don't forget that Rowling was already sued by someone that claimed she had stolen the idea for her books. While I'd love to read it publishing this would be guaranteeing a lawsuit that you're guaranteed to lose."

Could you please explain to me why you reverted my edit? --194.12.7.50 (talk) 02:26, 26 December 2015 (UTC)

I'm not 100% sure if its still an appropriate external link, but my original revert did not take everything into account properly. I've restored your version. --allthefoxes (Talk) 02:28, 26 December 2015 (UTC)

Rollback granted

Hi Allthefoxes. After reviewing your request for "rollbacker", I have enabled rollback on your account. Keep in mind these things when going to use rollback:

  • Getting rollback is no more momentous than installing Twinkle.
  • Rollback should be used to revert clear cases of vandalism only, and not good faith edits.
  • Rollback should never be used to edit war.

Retrieving Deleted Material

How can I get back material that was on a page that was speedily deleted? PCN02WPS (talk) 22:24, 30 December 2015 (UTC)

You would likely need to contact an administrator, though exactly how, I am not sure. Content is deleted from Wikipedia if it is in-appropriate, so the history of the page is not usually kept publically. --allthefoxes (Talk) 23:24, 30 December 2015 (UTC)

Hi Linda. Your word is unfortunately not enough here. You need to have some sort of third party, reliable reference. --allthefoxes (Talk) 02:53, 1 January 2016 (UTC)
(edit conflict)Tyra82 - See my response to you. You need to follow the directions that I've provided for you to resolve the matter properly. We cannot verify your identity, and we must abide by Wikipedia policy regarding the article. ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 02:53, 1 January 2016 (UTC)

It's funny that the word of the person you're writing about isn't good enough but YOU who DO NOT know me think it's ok for you to mislead people by writing an incorrect article about me. What's your citation?? I have sent an email to the link you asked me to click on. What proof do you want?? — Preceding unsigned comment added by Tyra82 (talkcontribs) 03:05, 1 January 2016 (UTC)

The citation is already listed on the page. You removed it when you went to write your unsourced information. Please understand that, even if you may be the person, we can't take a random email from a person who we cannot verify the identity of as a reliable source. All claims made on a biography of a living person must be verified by an independant, third party source. --allthefoxes (Talk) 03:07, 1 January 2016 (UTC)
Tyra82 - I've responded to you on my talk page. Neither myself or allthefoxes can assist you any further. Hi. I will add it to my watchlist and look into some changes. I reverted your changes because you were adding a lot of unsourced material. If you want, your edits are still in the articles history. Alanis Obomsawin misattributed Quote

RE: Hello, I'm Allthefoxes. I noticed that you made an edit to a biography of a living person, Alanis Obomsawin, but that you didn’t support your changes with a citation to a reliable source. Hi. I removed your content since you were adding your own personal "talk" to the page. Wikipedia is an encylopedia, so statements like "I am skeptical about the attribution of this quote" do not belong in the encyclopedia. --allthefoxes (Talk) 03:30, 2 January 2016 (UTC)

Check It Edits

I don't exactly see why there is a conflict of interest in editing an objective page. The information put on the page is factually incorrect. The film is NOT about a gang that advocates for LGBT rights and it's not produced by Steve Buscemi. We've gotten numerous emails from people about this inaccurate page. Checkitfilm (talk) 03:50, 2 January 2016 (UTC) Check It Film

Since you have a financial stake in the movie, it would not be the best idea to edit it yourself. Suggest the edits on the articles talk page so another editor can look into it! --allthefoxes (Talk) 03:51, 2 January 2016 (UTC)

My recent edits

Hello allthefoxes. This is my first time editing a Wikipedia page and I guess that this is the best way to talk to you. Could you please tell me what part of the Cigar City Brewing page you took out? That will help me revise it. Thank you.

@Markwise: - Hey there. Are you by any chance affiliated with Cigar City Brewing? - Some of your contributions do not meet WP:NPOV --allthefoxes (Talk) 20:28, 6 January 2016 (UTC)

I am not affiliated, I write about beer in the state of Florida and have been looking to add information about Florida's breweries starting with these guys. I have been covering them for about six years, and do the writing first with the citations later.

I see a considerable amount of work I spent hours writing is now gone. I am wondering if that was you, and if so I am open to editing but really would prefer not to reinvent the wheel.

@Markwise: - All the changes are still in the history and can still be found there. Nothing is gone. However, your edits were reverted over my concerns about your NPOV.
Here are a few examples:

Cigar City Brewing's reputation was built on their core lineup of beers in association with occasional releases combined with tasting room rarities.

This is a pretty big use of WP:PUFF

as of 2015. From the inception of Cigar City, Jai Alai has been a best-selling beer.

Unsourced claim

For many years, Jai Alai IPA and Maduro brown ale were the two cores and the most consistent beers that Cigar City Brewing produced

Again unsourced, and an opinion

Hotter than Helles is a German-inspired light lager that is perfectly paired for Florida's hottest weather as the beer is only 5% alcohol by volume and very refreshing.

More puffery

Wikipedia is not a blog or writing place for beers, it is an encylopedia, and the writing style needs to reflect that. --allthefoxes (Talk) 20:43, 6 January 2016 (UTC)

Thank you for the examples. I understand why you would think this and while I do not want to get into a debate with you, I appreciate the feedback.

My edit

No, you did not make a mistake. I'm not sure how to do this, so, did not put a citation although it is listed on the Internet. I know Don Lasseter, personally; he was born in a cannery Alviso in 1935 & is a fairly well-known True Crime author & World War 2 Historian who ilives in Orange County Southern Californa. Thank You. Angelsings (talk) 03:31, 7 January 2016 (UTC)

Hey there. Don't worry too much about the citation. The main reason I reverted your edit was reverted because Wikipedia does not allow non-notable list entries. While the person might be notable, they do not seem to have a Wikipedia article. Which somewhat shouted out to me that the entry and person was not notable. If you want to put the information back, I would not revert it again (though another editor might.) --allthefoxes (Talk) 03:38, 7 January 2016 (UTC)

It is somewhat arrogant of you to edit the page on the village of Walton as I started it, live there and am well informed enough to make comments as to how these entities are viewed by the general public.

I would expect at least the courtesy of contact prior to your arbitrary action.Farmer56 (talk) 04:56, 7 January 2016 (UTC)

My edit

Hello,

I don't know if you received my comment from yesterday re your putting my edit on hold. I, completely, understand the need for verification. No, you didn't make a mistake as I'm not sure how to edit nor cite on Wikipedia.

Under the category Trivia (because there wasn't one for Notable Citizens/Residents of) in Alviso, CA I added:

Don Lasseter, notableTrue Crime author & WWII Historian; born in an Alviso cannery building in 1935.

I don't know how to copy & paste on this smartphone but, if you have time, you can enter his name into a Google search which will bring up his many books & cite he was born there. I know him personally, spoke with him yesterday & he does not object to having this information put on Wikipedia.

Thank you for your time & assistance.

Denny Hamlin

Hi, I am leaving this message because of the edits that I made to the Denny Hamlin article, which were reverted because you said they were non-constructive. The few edits that I did make were only the correction of some typos and spelling errors, and Hamlin had four Nationwide Series wins in 2008, not three, which is clearly shown in the table below. Please allow me to re-fix these typos or misinformation, or get back to me if there was something else that I did wrong. Thank you. 173.67.173.109 (talk) 22:12, 8 January 2016 (UTC)

I removed speedys

Thank you for your efforts in tagging articles for speedy deletion. But I want to tell you that I removed your speedy deletion tags from Highland Park Herald and a few other articles because: A1 did not apply because the context was clear (that the subject was a newspaper), and A7 did not apply because A7 applies only to "a real person, individual animal(s), organization, web content or organized event"; so it applies to an organization (like a publishing company) but not to a product (like a newspaper). —teb728 t c 00:24, 9 January 2016 (UTC)

@Teb728: - Hiya, thanks. Either way, the articles were written just to promote another company, by a user who is clearly affiliated. I will PROD them for now, or look for areas of improvement. I was also under the impression that a newspaper or group would be considered an organization. --allthefoxes (Talk) 01:04, 9 January 2016 (UTC)
Personally I wouldn't distinguish between newspaper and publisher here. And as Allthefoxes points out, the "artiles" did nothing but promote another company, so G11 would also apply even if the distinction between organization and product were relevant. Huon (talk) 01:37, 9 January 2016 (UTC)

Regarding Carrie Wiki

Hi :) So I saw your message, and I returned to the Wiki and I put 2 sources, & then somebody else came along & said "This is entirely unsourced opinion, stop or you'll be blocked" (???) even though I listed 2 sources, one from Stephen King himself & another from a book about Stephen King. I was wondering if you could glance at what I wrote on the Wiki (in the Wiki history) & tell me what I was doing wrong? Lol. You seem a lot nicer than that other person was, so I figured I'd ask you for help, lol

Whatever you write needs to be sourced, so your sources need to say what you are saying in the article. We also are primarily looking for independant reliable sources like newspapers or magazines. --allthefoxes (Talk) 18:08, 11 January 2016 (UTC)
