Hello, I saw that you participated in the writing or translation of the article "Partmaximum". I myself wrote a political article on the subject. Would you be willing to give me your opinion? --Ascax (talk) 15:30, 26 January 2024 (UTC)

Hello,

Can you explain your removal of information regrading causes of separatism in Russia? Those causes were layed out in the source used and your editing note doesnt explain much. Dictatorialkarelian (talk) 18:28, 4 September 2023 (UTC)

Hosfeld

Why did you remove the redirect on Hosfeld? There is only one notable person listed. AllTheUsernamesAreInUse (talk) 19:26, 6 September 2023 (UTC)

@AllTheUsernamesAreInUse: - because it is not a disambig page, but a surname page, wor which rule of disambig are not applicable. NOt do say that Scott Hosfeld is wikilinked from several wp pages, i.e., potentially notable (also clam for notability: " For ten years Scott Hosfeld served as founder, executive and artistic director of the internationally lauded Icicle Creek Music Center in Leavenworth, Washington. During that period Hosfeld realized a lifelong dream: to establish a world-class chamber music festival, chamber music institute and year-round school of music in a truly inspiring environment. <...> Hosfeld is the founding conductor of the Malibu Coast Chamber Orchestra"). - Altenmann >talk 19:33, 6 September 2023 (UTC)
@Altenmann: The rules of a surname page say that at least two notable people must have the surname for the surname to be notable. While Scott could be notable, he does not have a Wikipedia article and it has been speedily deleted twice. I think it would be wiser to turn it into a redirect for now, at least until Scott or someone else gets an article, if that ever happens. AllTheUsernamesAreInUse (talk) 19:37, 6 September 2023 (UTC)
This is a nonsense rule. Plese tell me where it is and I will question it. - Altenmann >talk 19:46, 6 September 2023 (UTC)
@Altenmann: Wikipedia:WikiProject Anthroponymy/Standards#Articles: "If at least two articles matching the surname or given name of the subject of a name article do not exist, then the surname or given name list article would not be notable and should not be created". AllTheUsernamesAreInUse (talk) 19:59, 6 September 2023 (UTC)
A properly sourced article about a name may still be notable without a list. - Altenmann >talk 20:01, 6 September 2023 (UTC)
@Altenmann: That usually applies to surnames associated with a notable family or other situation, such as in Drumpf. Otherwise, Wikipedia would be flooded with meaningless name articles, as they would essentially just be words. AllTheUsernamesAreInUse (talk) 20:06, 6 September 2023 (UTC)
Wikipedia will be flooded with useful articles. The article in question is not "just a word". - Altenmann >talk 20:11, 6 September 2023 (UTC)
Yes, but a name by itself is not notable. If there is only one person with a Wikipedia who has the name, it should be a redirect. AllTheUsernamesAreInUse (talk) 20:32, 6 September 2023 (UTC)
This is a pointless discussion. Obviously our opinions differ. the " Anthroponymy/Standards" page you cited is an essay, i.e., not a guideline accepted by wide community consensus. - Altenmann >talk 20:47, 6 September 2023 (UTC)
I guess you're right. Hosfeld has enough entries that I can accept it, but I still don't think a name page created with only one or no matches on Wikipedia would meet notability guidelines. AllTheUsernamesAreInUse (talk) 21:06, 6 September 2023 (UTC)

I mistook you for a communist at first.

Our discussion on the talk page of "Scientific communism" starts:

Is communism an actual science?

Shouldn't it say that it is/was claimed to be a science, not that it is a science? Polar Apposite (talk) 18:03, 2 September 2023 (UTC)

If you find a reliable reference from an expert that it was not science, you are welcome to improve the article. - Altenmann >talk 18:59, 2 September 2023 (UTC)

Reading this reply of yours I immediately concluded that you were a communist who was warning me off. I thought you would deny that my references were reliable, regardless of quality, and let me know that I was not at all welcome in any way. I didn't bother looking at your user page or anything. In the end I decided I would press ahead, despite the danger of an edit war or worse. I'm glad I did, because I was very pleasantly surprised to see that I had misread the situation. But I wonder how many editors might have simply backed off. I'm telling you this because, although it could be just me, it could also be a bit to do with the nature of your reply.

I don't think I would have felt warned off if you had instead written, "You are welcome to improve the article in any way, for example, by finding a reliable reference from an expert that it was not a science."

Please let me know what your thoughts are on this. Polar Apposite (talk) 15:34, 10 September 2023 (UTC)

My thoughts are that I am not a native English speaker. So are a significant proportion of other wikipedians. Still others cannot express themselves clearly. THerefore you have always ask clarifying questions, rather than reading someone's mind. As for me being communist, now that you have asked, here are some of my contributions about communism. - Altenmann >talk 17:05, 10 September 2023 (UTC)
I didn't ask whether you were a communist. I have no problem with you being a communist, if you are one, by the way. I *thought* you would undo my edits, but you didn't. I was wrong about that. That's all I wanted to discuss.
I asked only for your thoughts regarding the way you phrased your welcome message to me, and the way I jumped to the wrong conclusion about what it meant. I am very impressed with the amount of contributions you have made to Wikipedia. I didn't know about that when I made my little joke about your deserving a Stakhonovite Award. Polar Apposite (talk) 20:20, 14 September 2023 (UTC)

A "spacibo" for you

First of all, allow me to apologize to you, because at first I thought you were trying to sabotage my contributions. I understand that you are a child of God, just like me. I was born and raised in Vietnam, influenced by Soviet and Russian culture since childhood, so I love it very much. I hope you understand and sympathize with my efforts. I completely agree with your corrections, but in the article about "Fafaraway tsardom", I think you should not be too opinionated - in my understanding you are using an English term and out of context Russia. But most of all, I don't discriminate against you at all, I hope you understand me. Amin ! (Qwerck (talk) 15:18, 12 September 2023 (UTC))

  • @Qwerck: I looked through all your contributions and I sympathize with your efforts to fill the gaps in Wikipedia.. However you have to understand that, firtst, wikipedia hass rules . Second, your knowledge of Russian, however deep may be, is noit native, and you simply cannot know everything and you better listen to people who know. If you have some questios, please ask hem in article talk page.- Altenmann >talk 15:23, 12 September 2023 (UTC)
  • From ancient times until now, I have always tried to express something through the eyes of the person who created it. That's complicated, but specifically: I try to show knowledge about Russia through a Russian perspective, not an American or even a Vietnamese one. That is all ! (Qwerck (talk) 15:38, 12 September 2023 (UTC))
  • I understand that you are trying to attack me even though I have no problem with you. (Qwerck (talk) 07:02, 13 September 2023 (UTC))
  • I am not attacking you. I am trying to put your articles into accordance with Wikipedia rules. The way you react to this is detrimental to the cooperative way Wikipedia works. If you have disagreements with my edits (explained in my edit summaries), you have to discuss them in article talk pages. - Altenmann >talk 18:34, 13 September 2023 (UTC)

Banreverts

Hi Altenmann,

I saw that you removed the speedy deletion tag from Faraway Tsardom (to be clear, my understanding is this is okay to do if the editor removing it is planning on fixing any issues, so I’m not attacking you for that!). I just wanted to check with you about Vovka and Winter in Faraway Tsardom, as the speedy deletion tag for this page was removed by another editor, but you’d stated here that you do not contest deletion of other pages created by this banned user. I therefore thought I should check with you to see whether you would object to the page being deleted as the work of a sockpuppet or not (it’s hard sometimes to tell if other contributions to an article have just been cleaning up a sock’s mess, or adding new content). Again, if you do object, it’s not a problem; I just thought I should check (cc A. B. for info.)

Also, given that it turns out Hunzic is also a sock, I also thought I should check with you in advance if there are any articles you’re aware of them creating (if there are any) that you’d be opposed to the deletion of. When I get some time (hopefully today), I’ll go through and BANREVERT their contribs where I can.

All the best, user:A smart kittenmeow 07:23, 17 September 2023 (UTC)

@A smart kitten: No objection to deletion of Vovka and Winter in Faraway Tsardom - topic of very low significance and easily recreatable if someone geta an interest. As for contrib of Hunzic, Category:Kenkoku University an its subcat must be destructed, same with Category:Republicanism in Asia.- Altenmann >talk 00:05, 18 September 2023 (UTC)

Deletion discussion about IEEE Computer Graphics and Applications

Hello, Altenmann, and welcome to Wikipedia. I edit here too, under the username Actualcpscm, and I thank you for your contributions.

I wanted to let you know, however, that I've started a discussion about whether an article that you created, IEEE Computer Graphics and Applications, should be deleted, as I am not sure that it is suitable for inclusion in Wikipedia in its current form. Your comments are welcome at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/IEEE Computer Graphics and Applications.

You might like to note that such discussions usually run for seven days and are not votes. And, our guide about effectively contributing to such discussions is worth a read. Last but not least, you are highly encouraged to continue improving the article; just be sure not to remove the tag about the deletion nomination from the top.

If you have any questions, please leave a comment here and prepend it with {{Re|Actualcpscm}}. And, don't forget to sign your reply with ~~~~ . Thanks!

Hi Altenmann,

may you please move the article Angu to Kukukuku (PNG people)? Angu shall become of disambiguation to integrate pt:Angu (dish). I personally can't overwrite existing redirects.

Regarding this revert, made without an edit summary: will you be fixing the Linter errors yourself? If not, I or some other gnome will eventually come along and repeat the edit. Do you need help understanding why I applied those routine fixes to your user page? – Jonesey95 (talk) 20:07, 7 November 2023 (UTC)

@Jonesey95: Another gnome will be reverted just as well (Although I do respect wikignomes). You are not supposed to edit user pages: formatting, typos, and what's not without really serious reason. I am not going to waste my time inspecting such changes. Out of courtesy I am replying: your edit broke my intentions and I will not discuss this further. - Altenmann >talk 20:19, 7 November 2023 (UTC)
Thank you for the reply. I will try to refrain from editing your page, but if you do not fix the syntax errors yourself, your user page will keep appearing on Linter error reports. Since I perform routine cleanup of syntax errors on reports containing thousands of pages, and your page does not stand out in any way, I may accidentally edit your page again. If I do, you are welcome to revert again. – Jonesey95 (talk) 21:50, 7 November 2023 (UTC)
@Jonesey95: your page does not stand out in any way - Why don't you Linter guys introduce a kind of exception list? - Altenmann >talk 22:27, 7 November 2023 (UTC)
As far as I know, nobody has presented a valid argument in favor of an exception list for pages that have fixable syntax errors. – Jonesey95 (talk) 01:05, 8 November 2023 (UTC)
@Jonesey95: The thing is my page does not have syntax errors: it is displayed as intended and I have no idea why your Linter "fixed" it by breaking some things. - Altenmann >talk 01:10, 8 November 2023 (UTC)
See the bottom of Page information for your user page. There are two closing </div> tags with no opening tag, one "wikilink inside an external link" error (in the "42" userbox, which does not accept a wikilink in parameter 1), and one invalid file option (two consecutive pipes that should be just one pipe). – Jonesey95 (talk) 02:01, 8 November 2023 (UTC)

Invitation

Hello Altenmann/\/, we need experienced volunteers.
  • New Page Patrol is currently struggling to keep up with the influx of new articles. We could use a few extra hands on deck if you think you can help.
  • Reviewing/patrolling a page doesn't take much time but it requires a good understanding of Wikipedia policies and guidelines; Wikipedia needs experienced users to perform this task and there are precious few with the appropriate skills. Even a couple reviews a day can make a huge difference.
  • Kindly read the tutorial before making your decision (if it looks daunting, don't worry, it basically boils down to checking CSD, notability, and title). If this looks like something that you can do, please consider joining us.
  • If you would like to join the project and help out, please see the granting conditions. You can apply for the user-right HERE.
  • If you have questions, please feel free to drop a message at the reviewer's discussion board.
  • Cheers, and hope to see you around.

Speedy deletion nomination of Vladimir Yerofeyev

Hello Altenmann,

Welcome to Wikipedia! I edit here too, under the username FULBERT and it's nice to meet you :-)

I wanted to let you know that I have tagged an article that you started, Vladimir Yerofeyev for deletion, because it is unnecessary per one of the criteria at WP:G14.

If you feel that the page shouldn't be deleted and want more time to work on it, you can remove the speedy deletion tag from the top. If the page is already deleted by the time you come across this message and you wish to retrieve the deleted material, please contact the deleting administrator.

For any further query, please leave a comment here and prepend it with {{Re|FULBERT}}. And, don't forget to sign your reply with ~~~~ . Thanks!

If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.

You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.

A tag has been placed on Inverted bell (disambiguation) requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section G14 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because it is a disambiguation page which either

  • disambiguates only one extant Wikipedia page and whose title ends in "(disambiguation)" (i.e., there is a primary topic);
  • disambiguates zero extant Wikipedia pages, regardless of its title; or
  • is an orphaned redirect with a title ending in "(disambiguation)" that does not target a disambiguation page or page that has a disambiguation-like function.

Under the criteria for speedy deletion, such pages may be deleted at any time. Please see the disambiguation page guidelines for more information.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. If the page is deleted, and you wish to retrieve the deleted material for future reference or improvement, then please contact the deleting administrator. Personal attacks

Saying that I made a "racist comment" [1] is a WP:personal attack. I'm going to ask that you strike it.--Ermenrich (talk) 19:29, 15 January 2024 (UTC)

@Ermenrich: Saying that India is irrelevant is a racist statement, Please strike or edit it to sound less racist. I am not saying you are racist, I said your comment was careless enough to be interpreted as racist. Please recognize distinction betweem attack on person and attack on statement. - Altenmann >talk 19:33, 15 January 2024 (UTC)
I said nothing of the sort, that's what you said that I said. And saying someone made a "racist comment" is obviously a personal attack.--Ermenrich (talk) 19:36, 15 January 2024 (UTC)
You said "what weight should we give a source like the Times of India?". Which is clearly a discriminative statement against India. In broader context, not to be accused of cherry-picking: "Considering that Lira had a mostly western audience, what weight should we give a source like the Times of India?" - it may be interpreted as a white supremacy statement implying that India should not mess in Western affairs. Well, guess what? Indian journalists have right to comment on everything on the globe. Wikipedia says "Racism is discrimination and prejudice against people based on their race or ethnicity." Hence your comment was racist. So it was not a personal attack, but an attack on your statement. In Wikipedia we criticize each other's statements all the time. Accusing me of making a personal attack is also a personal attack. - Altenmann >talk 19:42, 15 January 2024 (UTC)
Please don't WP:Wikilawyer me. Accusing people of making racist statements is extremely offensive, and your summary of my statement is obviously false (asking what WP:WEIGHT to give various sources is a perfectly normal question).--Ermenrich (talk) 19:48, 15 January 2024 (UTC)
Thank you for changing your comment.--Ermenrich (talk) 19:53, 15 January 2024 (UTC)
Just don't make statements that can be interpreted as racist instead of attacking the person who commented on your statement. Assigning WP:WEIGHT basing on nationality look like racist in my perception. I changed my statement because it was distracting from the essence of the discussion. I guess we will not come to an agreement on what is racism and what is personal attack. - Altenmann >talk 19:57, 15 January 2024 (UTC)
