Image copyright problem with Image:Violotta.jpg[edit]

Thanks for uploading Image:Violotta.jpg. However, the image may soon be deleted unless we can determine the copyright holder and copyright status. The Wikimedia Foundation is very careful about the images included in Wikipedia because of copyright law (see Wikipedia's Copyright policy).

The copyright holder is usually the creator, the creator's employer, or the last person who was transferred ownership rights. I'd not heard of Lise Bourbeau before but she seems interesting, why not start the page on her as the link is still red? Template:Artificial light sources[edit]

Hi Amakuha,

Are you sure the sulfur lamp isn't a gas-discharge lamp? The article certainly implies that it is. The lamp operates by heating sulfur until it evaporates and forms a gas plasma. From the article: "...warm-up time of the sulfur lamp is notably shorter than for other gas discharge lamps,...". Pburka (talk) 03:24, 13 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]

  • Yes, it follows from definition of gas-discharge lamp (first sentence of the article):
    "Gas-discharge lamps are a family of artificial light sources that generate light by sending an electrical discharge through an ionized gas, i.e. a plasma."
  • And from definition of a sulfur lamp (first senctence again):
    "The sulfur lamp (also sulphur lamp) is a highly efficient full-spectrum electrodeless lighting system whose light is generated by sulfur plasma that has been excited by microwave radiation."
  • The fact that sulfur plasma is excited NOT by electrical discharge, but by microvawes, makes it NOT a gas-discharge lamp.   • On the other hand, Electrodeless lamp is in Category:Gas discharge lamps. My understanding is that the critical factor in gas-discharge lamps is that they emit light through the excitement of gas molecules. The precise manner of the excitement isn't critical to the definition. I suspect that the first paragraph of Gas-discharge lamp needs to be fixed to be somewhat more inclusive, but I'm not an expert in the subject. See [1] for a possible basis for a clearer definition. Viktor Kosenko[edit]

Hello Amakuha, I've been trying to find somebody to help me finish the 'List of compositions by Viktor Kosenko' still in my sandbox after a year of work. I first contacted a Ukrainian Wikipedian, whom I had the pleasure to meet here in Prague last March, but right now she's deeply involved with the development of the Ukrainian Wikipedia. My second attempt was with another Wikipedian living in Kiev, but again she's always saying that "last week was really awful". I also tried to contact classical musicians on Facebook, including Tetyana Ivanytska who works for the Viktor Kosenko Museum, to no avail. My best chance came from a Ukrainian soprano living in Krakow who greatly assisted me with her (university) dissertation on three songs from Kosenko's Op. 7. Another Wikipedian, who worked with me on the article Viktor Kosenko, helped me with some translations to English, but what I need is to understand the meaning of Kosenko's compositions and explain them in the 'Notes' section. But that's not all, I would like to know about the songs which are not yet listed there (it is said that Kosenko wrote about 250 compositions). That is the reason that I tried to contact Tetyana Ivanytska and see if I could find more about this. I tried the National Parliamentary Library of Georgia and the National Library of Belarus which also helped find works which I didn't find anywhere else. Still, I would like to contact the Kiev Conservatory and see if I could find any information there (that seems the proper way), but I am afraid that they don't take into account my research. I would like to have your help on this work, if you can of course. If not, saying 'NO' isn't offensive and I will understand your position on this topic and thank you for your sincerity. Hi Krenakarore! It's very pleasant to hear someone in another country working with such dedication on article about Kosenko. I know some people in Kyiv Conservatory, so I can ask them to help us. It would be also great to list his songs in Ukrainian Wikipedia as well. Honestly, Ukrainian Wikipedia is quite poor in the field of Ukrainian music, as was the research in Soviet time. This is why I'm trying to get musicians and especially musicologist into Wikipedia to fix this unfair situation. Yury my dear (you are in Lviv), yes Kosenko has become an obsession to me. All I want is to propel his name and compositions to the four corners of the world. I read about his life and personality, and like this I dived into his songs once there's no better way for me to understand a composer's body of work. Yes, I need someone to read the title of his compositions and make corrections (I am trying to find the best possible translation to the English language). Also I need to understand things like: 'Пісня про Тирольську трагедію' which is translated as 'Song about the Tyrol tragedy' (1936), but I don't know what this mean, what tragedy in Tyrol is Kosenko referring to ? Or: 'Пiснею про Сталiна зустрiчаймо день' (We meet the day with a song about Stalin). These are titles yet not listed in the Wikitable in my Sandbox, and some of the titles may not correspond to their respective place once I deduced where they belong to (some of Kosenko's works are parts of compositions like 'Three Pieces for Voice and Piano' or 'Eight Pieces for Male Vocal Quartet'). Also there are some writers and poets, whose work Kosenko used in his compositions, which I have never heard of. I don't know who M. Prygary, O. Golubytsky or I. Skliar is (their names came to me declinated in Polish language - "piosenka dla dziecka na fortepian, wiersze L. Zymnogo"). I would like to find out if they are listed in the English Wikipedia and link them to the explanation of Kosenko's songs and compositions in the 'Notes' section on the article I am creating, which is all that counts for me (it's the most important work I have ever encountered here). You can find some of Kosenko's works at Union Catalog Corporate Cataloging System or The National Parliamentary Library of Georgia and make comparisons with what is already listed in my Sandbox. Your mentioning about knowing some people at the Kyiv Conservatory does come in handy. Visiting the right department for a copy of his works (I have what is listed in the Muzyczna Ukraina at dropbox.com). You could also try Tetyana Ivanytska, the curator at Kosenko's Museum-Apartment - 38 (044) 280-16-a22. Only a native could do that, a foreigner like me would never be understood. Thanks! I'll have a look, when the war ends. Basically, there's a war between insurgents supported by Russia (there's no doubt about that) and Ukrainian army with volunteer fighter units. One of Ukrainian Wikipedians died in one of those units…
The insurgents are very well equipped with Russian anti-tank rockets (RPG-26, RPG-22), anti-tank guided missilies (Metis-M, Fagot), anti-aircraft missilies (Igla), grenade launchers (something similar to AGS-30) as well as new Kalashnikov rifles (AK-103) with grenade launchers.
Where possible Ukraine started to use airstrikes. But everything is complicated by the fact, that the insurgents are fighting from residential quarters while residents are still there, so that army cannot use its full force.

Soviet Aviation Task Force Invitation Suggestion[edit]

Hi! I noticed you are fluent in both Russian, Ukrainian, and English and was hoping you would join the Soviet Aviation Task Force and translate some of our missing articles into English and Ukrainian from Russian. Many of the articles on the list are MAJOR plane crashes that were not covered by Soviet media at the time they happened and were not made public until decades later, when such events were no longer considered interesting enough for regular news. And the since Soviet Airforces were subject to massive purges in the Stalin era, many notable aviators who broke multiple world records or earned their nation’s highest honor were repressed, their accomplishments forgotten, and their discoveries swept under the rug. Because archival sources are nearly always in Russian and these topics are history, not news, coverage of even the deadliest, most notable, and revolutionary events of aviation only have articles on the Russian Wiki. Our goal is to change that, using the wikidata pages for those Russian articles as a “base” to start off from and expand our own wikis, providing coverage on some of the most forgotten topics that managed to hide in the Russosphere for many years. Best compromise to COVID-19 lead[edit]

Hi there. I note your interest in the COVID-19 lead and the issues surrounding the current edit. Please let’s clear this thing up once and for all, and reach a quick consensus if possible. I’ve included below a link for you to vote on a best compromise. Current edit as it stands is quite misleading and more damaging the longer it is up given that people will read it and freely socialise thinking that as long as nobody coughs at them then they’re all good.

This is a compromise between leaving out the ‘primarily’ which therefore mentions coughing as though it’s the only way droplets are formed (per current misleading edit), and the other side which is actually mentioning exhaling and sneezing. This way, the primary method is stated, no secondary methods stated, and the reader knows that other forms of droplet production are possible.

You removed leetcode from the competitive_programming article. You write that it is not mentioned, but what exactly do you mean by that? If you google leetcode, they are mentioned in credible and notable media. Furthermore, the site and its contests are fairly popular with thousands of participants for any given contest. @Pseudosalacia: What I meant it's not widely mentioned in competitive programming context. For example, it doesn't seem to be mentioned in Olympiads in Informatics. The most credible mention is in the Programming Interviews For Dummies (2019) by John Sonmez, Eric Butow. But I meant that after your additions it pays too much attention to this issue specifically in the United States. If every other country in the world added such detailed accounts of their mask use to this article, it would be a great mess. Therefore I suggest to move most of the information in the sections "U.S. Points of View" and especially "History of U.S. response to COVID-19 face masks" into a dedicated article.
