Use of minor edit m

G'day 23, Welcome. Can I just ask that when you do an edit, like the one you did recently on the Draza Mihailovic article, deleting existing information and adding other information, you don't click on minor edit, as most interested editors will not find your edit a minor one (which essentially means superficial), and may consider that discussion of the handing over of Allied aircrew to the Germans provides some balance against which the award of the Legion of Merit can be measured. Arid Uka

Hello 23 editor. I see you are quite new here so I wish to explain something to you for future reference. You made a number of changes on Arid Uka which I initially reverted as non-constructive, only to discover that these are early days for you as an editor which is why I restored the bulk of your contributions, all except one. Like you, I am also from the former Yugoslavia (albeit born in the UK where I have always lived) and a fair chuck of my edits are connected to that part of the world. The reason his name was displayed in Serbian Cyrillic was because he was born in the Kingdom of Yugoslavia and therefore that variation applied to him; we give Serbian or Serbo-Croat for all persons born on the territory of Serbia or Yugoslavia just as relevant variations are found across the site for other individuals of one ethnicity born in another country where a separate script is used. None of this suggests the spelling is an indication that the individual was of the ethnicity to which the translation pertains - the ethnicity is given in the article, usually on the opening line. Evandro Goebel

Hello. I reverted your edit at Evandro Goebel because you removed sourced information. The point of the articles is to have all the necessary information written in the article body and then adequatly sourced, which was exactly the case, so your edit did not contributed in any way in improving the article, right the oposite. Also, it didn´t make any sense to remove the sourced information, and leave the source. Please don´t make such edits anymore, removing sourced information is a big no-no. What we need is editors that will contribute by adding sourced information, and replacing the unsourced with sourced one. For any help please feel free to contact me. Pozdrav! Assumption of religion

Hi. I've reverted three of your recent edits (this, this and this) because you are adding categories that are not supported by the article text. For example, why would you add a category that purports Ana Ivanovic to be "Serbian Orthodox Christian" when there is no mention of "Christian" (or any religion) in her article? Warning

At Montenegrins, your conduct has been not much better than that of your opponents. You have made about five reverts of the same material in as many days. What makes it worse is that most of your reverts lacked any explanation in edit summaries (let alone talk page participation), and your only form of communication with the other editor was to accuse them of "vandalism" [3][4][5]. This is not acceptable. You need to realize that (a) revert-warring at a constant rate of 1r per day is still revert-warring, (b) making edits you disagree with is not the same thing as "vandalism", and (c) you should always provide informative edit summaries for your edits, but especially when making potentially contentious edits in a conflict situation.

date format changes

You seemed to have made a series of changes to the article Croatian War of Independence in which you changed the inline date format, but you

1. didn't leave edit summaries on any of them
2. didn't do the same change in the references
3. didn't change the template {{Use mdy dates}}
4. occasionally made small copyedits along the way
5. occasionally made content changes (describing Pakrac clash as a single incident rather than a series of incidents; I'm not questioning the accuracy of that here, just pointing out it's not a mere copyedit)

Can you please do this kind of a mass change in a single edit with a proper edit summary? If I roll you back now, we lose not only the incomplete/wrong changes, but also random stuff. Nazalost ne mora da znaci, ako pise pored slike free licence ili slicno onda ok, a ako ne onda ne moze na vikipediju. At first I thought that this edit might be vandalism as so much material was removed, and I only saw that it was constructive after carefully examining it. If you had included an informative edit summary, then I would have had a much easier time understanding what was going on. I think this is probably true for other editors who look at your edits as well - edit summaries are very useful for other people to understand what you're doing. Persons born in Yugoslavia (esp. Arid Uka)

23 editor, hold your horses and calm down! You are still relatively new here so you need to familiarise yourself with the general practice. When a subject is born in or has lived in a certain country for a significant period, we provide the local form of the individual name if it varies from the name being used. So if you are born in Greece, you will have your name in Greek regardles sof whether you are not ethnic Greek, same with Russia, Bulgaria, China and the Arab world. There are many manifestations for how such names appear and Hashim Thaçi is given his Slavic variants here. It is knowing where to find it. If some should have Cyrillic/Latinic and do not, then they can be added accordingly. Ethnic Albanians from Kosovo fall into the same category as their counterparts in Macedonia, or Hungarians in Vojvodina - they will all have their name presented in the Slavic form as it represents biographical information. Croatia and Slovenia, even in Yugoslav times, are different. Being Latinic-only languages, one maintains his name even with non-Slavic origin spelling forms (eg. Gordon Schildenfeld and Danilo Türk), but when people are born in Serbia, Montenegro or Macedonia, we give the respective form regardless of ethnicity. Any questions, please ask but I ask you not to make arbitrary amendments - the full catalogue of ethnic Albanians from Kosovo/Macedonia contains Slavic forms where relevant and if you are unhappy with these things, you need to gain a consensus for removal of foreign names on the whole of Wikipedia. Yes, indeed. Ante Pavelić - no Serbian cyrillic spelling and yet he did spend a significant amount of time in what was then Yugoslavia. Hashim Thaci - still no Cyrillic. Agim Çeku - no Cyrillic spelling. Mladen Lorković - sorry, no Cyrillic spelling. Rita Ora - born in Kosovo, no Cyrillic spelling. All of these people are non-Serbs. Rita Ora spent a few weeks of her life in Yugoslav Serbia so it is not relevant to her, she has never even learnt the language so we don't need it there. See Agim Çeku, see Hashim Thaçi. In the Arid Uka article, it says specifically, and I quote, "Since 1991 Arid Uka has lived in Germany..." If he was born in 1990 and he's lived in Germany since '91, doesn't that mean that he only spent a year of his life living in Kosovo? See the hypocrisy in that? Then you say, "Rita Ora spent a few weeks of her life in Yugoslav Serbia so it is not relevant to her, she has never even learnt the language..." Do you have any reliable references that Uka knew Serbian, because that is what you seem to be implying by putting the Serbian Cyrillic spelling in the opening of his article. Agim Çeku

Hi! Just noticed you added SC spelling of Agim Çeku as Agim Čeku and I wanted to run this by you to see if a further explanation is required there or not. Croatian language ortography actually requires preservation of the original spelling of foreign names, with an option not to use the cedilla in this particular case. An example of correct application of this rule is here and an example with the cedilla omitted here. Of course there are examples of Croatian newspapers spelling his name Čeku, but their orhographic (and grammatical) errors are omnipresent. I have no problem with the recent addition to the notes of the article as those speakers who would identify language they speak as SC would probably tend to spell his name phonetically, but I wonder if the note as-is might produce confusion that the name is spelled the same in Serbian and Croatian languages. Unfortunately, I am not a linguistics expert. I think that this is starting to become a question of whether Croatian and Serbian are seperate languages and I do not wish to become part of a debate as to whether they are. Žepa

Funny, I had opened the Wikipedia page on Žepa a couple of hours ago and noticed the claim that the town's current, post-war population was still overwhelmingly Bosniak, even though the town lies in Republika Srpska and you'd expect it to have been ethnically cleansed during the war, and raised my eyebrows. I then first read up some things about Foča and its former mayor, before returning to the Žepa page to add a citation needed tag to the population claim - and it turned out you had just done exactly that! Considering that the whole page hadn't seen a substantive edit since December until your edits tonight, that was very coincidental.

I'm not from Bosnia at all, but I'm guessing that it's deeply unlikely that the town still has many Bosniaks, isn't it? No-itsme (talk) 01:29, 23 March 2013 (UTC)

I've done some checking on the internet and I couldn't find any evidence to suggest the current figures for the Bosniak population of the town. However, considering that the degree of ethnic cleansing in the enclave wasn't as great in terms of deaths when compared to other eastern Bosnian towns, the figure in the article might still be a possibility. Cuska massacre

G'day 23, what is the story with your reversion of this article to the one Evlekis and his IP socks/meat have been edit warring over? Both the HRW and PBS sources use the exact phrase "Serbian security forces". HRW does state that the Yugoslav Army was also involved, but it is clear the people involved were Serbs, some local paramilitaries, and at least one Yugoslav policeman. Hello, Peacemaker! To be honest, I don't care much about Evlekis or his sockpuppets. I only care about the neutrality of these articles. At this point, reverts such as [7] and this are justified because a) it was FR Yugoslavia officially at the time, not Kosovo, not Serbia and nothing anything else b) it is sourced that the death toll could have been as high as 100 c) the Kosovo Albanians claimed that they were used as human shield, the assumption that this is a fact should not be in the first sentence and should most certainly not be taken as a fact without several sources that concretely say it is. As for [8], the Army of Serbia-Montenegro (SCG) existed from 2003 to 2006, so how does it make sense that they participated in a 1998 battle? Regards, 23 editor (talk) 11:50, 10 May 2013 (UTC)

If you pay close attention you shall see that the article partially and understandably deals with the medieval history of Bosnia whence Bosniaks and all other Bosnians obviously descend. Sokolovic and Elizabeth were Bosnians plainly and simply and equally the ancestors of all three contemporary nations of modern Bosnia and Herzegovina. The article does nowhere make the claim that these historic Bosnians had a Bosniak identity or that medieval Bosnia was "Bosniak". What is disturbing however is to see Sokolovic included into the Serbs infobox with a Serb identity anachronistically appointed to him in retrospect. Possible joint effort

Hi! I appreciate your edits very much and thought to ask you if you might be interested in tackling an article jointly. I have previously remarked in a talk elsewhere that I plan to edit some more the Croatian War of Independence article after major topics which act as "components" are sufficiently developed. So far I managed to develop about a dozen GAs in that respect, but I'd like to do something about the Breakup of Yugoslavia because that would allow a summary of the topic to be used in the CWoI as a background (probably with some more info on Log Revolution and 1990 elections). The Breakup article currently ranks as the 33rd most popular in WPHR scope and I assume it may safely assumed to be a core article of WPYU. I am aware it is a highly controversial topic but I believe it is worth the effort. I don't mind waiting a bit, I've started a couple of unrelated article drafts myself and would like to get those out of the way beforehand. And you're quite right, sources need be researched too.

After some consideration, it appears that the article mostly suffers from Wikipedia:Checklist#because related problems. The entire "Causes" section speaks of everything but causes and "Constitutional dispute and nationalism (1974–87)" is likewise useless. I mean, all those thing may as well be true but virtually everything discussed in there contributed marginally if at all to the breakup: In say 1988, there was no hint of Yugoslavia breaking up despite all those processes or history being in place. The "Rise of nationalism in SR Serbia" gives no indication how did Milošević's stance change so abruptly, which was likely a defining moment for later events. The "Final political crisis (1990–1992)" title alone gives an impression that there was another one before that relevant to the breakup, and the entire 1990 and onwards prose is quite tangled up starting off with the "Independence of Slovenia and Croatia" subsection before "War in Croatia" (which began in earnest before the independence), to arrive at "International recognition of the breakup" (i.e. discuss 1991-1992 events) after a section covering a period extending to 2001.

I think the present layout of the article makes a futile effort to explain causes of the breakup in the first two sections through events that did not necessarily contribute to the breakup (see: Checklist#because above) and then is hopelessly trying to present the information geographically compartmentalized instead of resorting to a chronological and more easily read format. Of course, each major development in the chronology may be presented in a subsection.

Then again - we'll see what the sources offer on the above issues, but these are just my impressions.--Tomobe03 (talk) 09:33, 10 July 2013 (UTC)

I posted the book details at the MILHIST talkpage as you requested, but also thought to let you know that the timeline presented there is quite complete for 1941-1944, except for the 5th regiment. Of course I did not copy all information presented in the book, and disregarded those events that appear quite minor relative to those posted. The timelines in the book also contain quite detailed info on changes of commanders of battalions and smaller units (down to companies, platoons etc) which seem to have occurred regularly. I took care not to skip anything resembling remotely relevant factoid and noted the page numbers where info is found just in case you want to use some of the material. In cases where larger page ranges are given (more than two pages long), I can break that down for you if you like me to. Also, should you fail to locate the book online and if you trust my Russian sufficiently, I can post the rest of the timeline here. My take on the book is that the authors of various sections and the editor (Vertepov) seem to be too close to the subject matter, judging from use of terms like "bandits" or "reds" for Partisans, to be used for any analysis or value judgements, but the timeline established by the book seems plausible.--Tomobe03 (talk) 22:12, 7 October 2013 (UTC)

There is no clear unanimous scholarly consensus as to the ethnic roots of the this man. In light of this, the most sensible thing to do is to avoid "ethnic" labels altogether, otherwise disagreeing editors will be obligated to introduce their sources as well with a consequent mockery of the article. Regarding names in Kosovo

Hi 23 editor, sorry to come so late but I wasn´t much around for the weekend.

Regarding the agreement I had, it was about using the Serbian (Serbo-Croatian) names for the Yugoslav period (including FR Yugoslavia) and using Albanian names after 1999. We used 1999 as a cut point as that year the NATO war against FR Yugoslavia happend and it was after that that Albanian took advantage over Serbian as administrative language. In practice, that agreement meant to write club names, exemple FK Priština for the period until 1999 and FC Prishtina for 1999 on. It ended not appliying for birthplaces because article titles were in Serbo-Croatian.

Now, I wasn´t much active in those move requests because personally I feel it as a lost battle. It is a fact that Albanian is now overwelmingly used in Kosovo. I see 1999 as a cut point has not been much adressed, however, personally, I do see it as kind of fair. I would support using Serbian names for places, clubs, companies, etc. for the period 1913-1999 and Albanian for 1999 on. Now, obviously, we have the Northern Kosovo now, which would be an exception in keeping evertything in Serbian till today.

So, I am not sure what everyone else thinks about this. This agreement of mine with Albanian editors was reached exclusivelly around football, but sounded fair at the time, and we both applied it without problems. FkpCascais (talk) 18:31, 11 February 2014 (UTC)

You seem to deliberately overlook the fact keeps coming back to the beginning of the conflict in the 6th April, although the documents and the testimony of all three warring nations say the conflict began 1 March the center of Sarajevo. From 1 March, the Serbs began to lift barricades, and then began a series of inter-ethnic conflict 3 March 5 March 23 March. This was followed by a military invasion in the HV 26 March landing across the river Sava in the village Sijekovac and massacred Serbian population, killing 46 civilians. 1 April was followed by Serbian military invasion of the town of Bijeljina and massacred Bosnians killing around 100 civilians. Then the JNA bombed Sarajevo 3 and 4 April. What kind of 6 April talking about? What to say to the victims before 6 April? Are they fell in the well-being? Army of the Republic of Croatia has twice intervened during the war. The first phase was from 26 March, 1992. up to 18 March 1994. Period of 26 March to 19 June in 1992. was Serbo-Croat conflict, and the 19 June in 1992. up to 18 March 1994. Croatian-Bosniak conflict, which ended with the Washington Treaty. The second phase of the Croatian military intervention was Operation Storm, Operation Corridor, Operation Mistral, Operation Una and at the end of the Dayton Agreement. Serbian military intervention began on 1 April in 1992. When Jovica Stanisic, the former head of the State Security Service of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Serbia ordered the attack across the Drina River in the town of Bijeljina where after the Serbian paramilitary group led by Zeljko Raznatovic Arkan, who have committed massacres against Bosniak civilians, killing 100 people. The same day, the Bosniaks captured the town of Zvornik, but it is already evening JNA began a battle that lasted until 9 April. Thus it is up to 6 April, there were about 500 victims killed and about 1,000 injured. All this happened before 6 April. Do not tell me these victims perished in prosperity? In Bosnia was a civil war. Military intervention Croatia and Serbian Army was as a protection of their compatriots and possible territorial expansion. The first phase of the Serbian military intervention (with which is directly commanded Belgrade) was as JNA until 20 May, when the Army withdrew from Bosnia after that ceased to exist. After 20 May Serbian JNA withdrew, but continued military support of Bosnian Serbs making her the international community 30 May introduced a general sanctions. Serbia withdrew from the war, 4 August in 1994. When the leaders of the Republika Srpska refused to accept the Contact Group plan. Economy of Gjakova etc

Greetings, I see that you have so far marked for deletion several articles or redirected them (Economy of Gjakova, Architecture of Peja, School for Visually impaired in Peja, Women of Krusha e Madhe, Notable people of Gjilan, Demographics of Ferizaj). I think that the deleting or redirecting of these articles does no service to Wikipedia because they foster future expanding upon the topics. For example the specific article about Economy of Gjakova has been redirected to the article about the city of Gjakova. Now the article about Gjakova will become too long, and it will eventually have to be broken down into smaller articles, such as the Economy of Gjakova. Another example is your copy pasting the whole article upon the Architecture of Peja unto Architecture of Kosovo, while deleting the former article completely, and disrupting the structure of the latter article. Please stop with this type counter-productive editing, which is not conducive with the nature of Wikipedia and dissemination of objective knowledge and data. Consider this your second warning, after that done by Arianit

The war began in SR Bosnia and Herzegovina, and continued in the independent BiH

Mr. "23 editor". The war in Bosnia is not started on 6 April and I do not know how many times should I repeat it, and more importantly, the war did not began in April. How can war began on April 6 and the number of victims of war, has about 500 people on three sides by before 6 April. Once again I will reiterate that the war in Bosnia began before her international recognition and in the SFRY. The first conflict in Bosnia and Herzegovina started on an ethnic basis on 1 March (the second day of the referendum) the conflict between Serbs and Bosniaks in the center of Sarajevo. Then, the clashes spread throughout the city, and soon across the country. After Baščaršije has been a domino effect and the large-scale conflict. Victims were more every day. Serious conflict with the victims and many were injured on March 3, March 5, March 23, March 25. On March 26, the Republic of Croatia directly intervened in the conflict. Croatian regular army began attack on the village Sijekovac. During the battle that killed 46 civilians. April 1 is Serbia (the rest of Yugoslavia) began military operations to quell the revolt, to disarm militant Bosnian community, to establish control over the Drina, take control of cities in eastern Bosnia, thus preventing complete secession. On the same day, the military forces of Serbia (Yugoslavia) have caught a military attack on Bijeljina, which is the largest city in eastern Bosnia. The attack was carried out with the assistance of the Serbian paramilitary unit under the control of Arkan. Arkan's military unit occupied the town without resistance, and then began the slaughter of the Bosnian population, killing more than 50 Bosniak civilians. On the same day, the JNA forces began a military operation to stop further escalation of the conflict in eastern Bosnia and the establishment of full control over it. While the Serbian military forces (JNA) was fighting in eastern Bosnia, governments in BiH declared independence on 5 April, just one day after the 6th of April, admitting the United States and the entire international community. So I put the start date of the war by March 1 (day of the Serbian-Bosnian ethnic conflict). Milan Stojadinović

Hi, I recently added a some information to the Milan_Stojadinovic talk page about conflicting birth information and also added a reference to his birth date on the article page (which you reverted). I am not a fan of excessive linking, however in this case, since there are multiple pages in the same reference used and some contention about his birth date, my thought was that it would be appropriate to directly reference one of the birth-dates in the article with the correct page reference (perhaps the info-box birth-date instead?). Additionally, if you know of an alternate source that supports the August 4th date, it would be good to add it to the article. Just finding a reference to O.S./N.S. designation on one of the dates will probably resolve all of them. I had a look at the particular page and found no figures re VRS strength in the particular operation there. Did you find the figure range someplace else? Ignore Pincrete, he likes to present his personal opinion as facts. Two negative texts about the film in the "Critical response" section and he's all worked up about there being one positive blurb. You're welcome to discuss this matter on the Weight of Chains talk page. Unlike Pincrete who canvasses Bobrayner to revert for him all the time, I'd like to hear your input even if it clashes with my opinion on the matter. Also (just a guess), I think I might know who, since he appeared immediately after someone else got banned, and went straight back to where the banned person left off, with similar patterns and seeming to know a lot of 'history' of the page.

Hi 23 editor, whilst copy-editng I failed to check the article's talk page. I found that some earlier sections were in the British style (organisation, favour, travelled) whereas further down there were American English spellings (organized, favor, traveled). Because the British style was dominant—at least early in the article—that's what I've standardised the article on, whereas the talk page says use American but without a category in the article telling me which variety to use. If you need the text changed back to American English spellings I'll be happy to do that for you; otherwise it'll be easy to change the template in the talk page.
