Deleting userpage content / drafts / sandboxes / etc.

Hey Ambrosia10. You were asking about how to get pages within your userspace removed, like sandboxes and drafts once their contents are moved to the article space. The way this works is basically by requesting a speedy deletion of that page by adding the following bit of text top:

{{Template:Db-u1}}

This produces a tag that looks like this at the top of the page, and is posted to a list of articles nominated speedy deletion, where any administrator can review it delete it. These are usually uncontroversial, so you would never be asked to explain yourself for the kinds of cases I described. Within a day or two, the page should be deleted. If you put it on a page by accident, you can simply undo it or remove it; if the page does get deleted accidentally, you can request it back here should you need it for any reason. Last year, I worked on a biography for Tuterei Karewa, a subject of numerous kinds of artwork, but found very little about him or his life. I'm Peter in Australia aka "Shirt58". I can see you have had a somewhat unpleasant introduction to the Wikipedia project.
One of the articles you have created - Ella Orr Campbell - could appear on the English language Wikipedia's main page as a "Wikipedia:Did you know". The "DYK" process is somewhat convoluted - as are many things on this sometimes giant bureaucracy that is supposed to be WP:NOTBUREAUCRACY.
What do you think about this?

Yeah, the bureaucratic mindset around here is rather toxic to new contributors. And I say this as someone who wields the very tools of the 1984 "Inner Party".
"However I am very happy to raise the profile of women scientists and particular Dr Campbell. Would I have to do anything to assist the process?"
If I say "I'll look into it, and help you out where I can", I might fall into the same condescending/helpful things that blokes who try out and help out at Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Women scientists.
Executive summary: just keep writing articles about women scientists, respond to constructive criticism, and don't give an airborne intercourse about anything else.

Lucy Beatrice Moore

Nice work in expanding this from a one line stub to an informative article. I've removed a parameter from one refernece as it dind't make sense. Was The Two Lucies the title of the lecture she gave and/or the chapter title in the book? If so that should use the parameter |chapter= not |author-link=, author-link is used when you want to link the refernece to the Wikipedia article on the author. Thanks for your recent help on this article. As regards your query concerning the citation, I was attempting to include the title of the chapter in the book. The chapter is called "The Two Lucies." I'm unsure of whether this was also the title of Moore's lecture. As I was using the cite book template I'm now unsure how to add in this piece of information back into the citation appropriately. Sorry! I'm still very much a beginner when it comes to Wikipedia markup. Anyway, thanks again for your assistance. No problem, I've added The Two Lucies as a chapter title. Don't apologise for being a beginner - we all were once :-) And wiki markup isn't necessarily the easiest at times.   • Have written to the Teahouse asking what I should do to solve this issue. My message "Ella_Orr_Campbell is a recent article that I've done the majority of work. It's has been flagged for copyright infringement. I don't think I have infringed copyright. There is little published works about this renowned New Zealand botanist and I created the article from the same sources used by JSTOR global plants. I have cited those sources as well as used my own words etc. I've created the article as a whole with a new structure gathering information from as wide a variety of sources as possible, citing appropriately as I go. Given JSTOR global plants, like I did, used the used the same references it is not surprising the article is similar although it is NOT a copy nor the same. I spent hours on it. Hi, Ambrosia10! Posting at the Teahouse is a good move, I hope you get some useful advice there. I've posted there and at Talk:Ella Orr Campbell to explain what the nature of the problem is. I'm afraid that, despite what you say, you have in fact infringed copyright. Four things:
  • Please make sure it doesn't happen again; everything you write in Wikipedia must (with a very few specific exceptions) be entirely in your own words
  • If you want to start on a rewrite of Ella Orr Campbell please feel free to do so – click the third of the three "Show" tags at middle right on the copyvio template covering the page to be taken to a new temporary page; please do not copy over any text to the new page unless you are 100% certain that you wrote it entirely yourself (copying the problem to the new page does not help to fix the problem!)
  • If you think there might be other articles where the same has happened (i.e., you have incorporated text from other places on the internet believing that to be acceptable), please identify them here; I am happy to help with cleaning those up too

Hard not to be discouraged. However have recently read this "Looking at the copyvio detector report it's clear that prior to the WP article being blanked there was close paraphrasing/copying in the "career" and "retirement" sections of the article from this Global Plants article. However, it is also clear that the article as a whole is not a mere copy-paste but includes well formatted references from half a dozen reliable source. I'm going to re-write the two offending paragraphs now, and then return the rest of the article content as it was before. OK?
