Paraphrasing and Plagiarism

Hi, Andhraking1. it seems that you may have an misunderstanding about paraphrasing. Close paraphrasing can still constitute plagiarism and is a copyright violation. Altering the sentence structure or adding synonyms will not relieve the text of copyright infringement. Plagiarism does not require exact wording, but takes into account the structure, format and content of the presentation of an idea -- as well as the quantity of similarities.

Unfortunately, most of Andhra Ratna Duggirala Gopalakrishnaiah constituted copyright infringement. Therefore it was deleted. Here are just two examples why:

Your text:

Andhra Ratna Duggirala Gopalakrishnaiah was one of the most famous leaders in the Indian Freedom Movement. He attracted and led millions of Andhra people to the movement with his silver tongue- his poetry and speeches.

The source states:

Gopalakrishnayya Duggirala was one of the famous leaders in the non-violent Indian Freedom Movement. He attracted millions of Andhra people to the movement through his poetry and speeches.

Your text:

Duggirala Gopalakrishnaiah was jailed for one year when he disobeyed a ban on speeches in Berhampur... He was very interested in Telugu Folk art and worked for popularizing folk-arts.

The source states:

He was jailed for one year when he disobeyed a ban on speeches in Barampuram...He was very much interested in Telugu folk-arts and toiled for the uplift of these arts.

These are all clear examples of plagiarism. Although we must be faithful to the sources, that is more a requirement for understanding the subject matter than using exact wording. This is why it is always suggested to read sources first, understand the material, and than put them aside while writing an article from scratch. After writing a draft, check the sources to verify the meaning is correct. This method helps avoid the problems of paraphrasing. Wikipedia takes copyright violations very seriously -- not only to protect the encyclopedia, but also the valuable work of the sources. It has the authority to enact binding solutions for disputes between editors, primarily related to serious behavioural issues that the community has been unable to resolve.
