EUBREN - The European Biomass Research Network is an indipendent non profit initiative, born in 2014, involving European universities and research centres with large experience on biomass sector.

In particular, EUBREN consists of a selection of universities and research centres in all 28 European member states. The initiative aims to promote and support European research activities on biomass sector.

Aims, initiatives and opportunities

"Researching for Bioeconomy". This is the slogan of the network. EUBREN members cooperate since the beginning of 2015 to strengthen the cooperation between academics and industries and develop new initiatives able to create international research programs focused on different technologies and market sectors, with the final target to bring academic results to a real industrial development.

EUBREN activities are distributed in seven technology platform, in order to cover all the aspects of European biobased Economy. Members are involved in technology platforms working group in relation on their skills, experience and interests.

  • Thermochemical Conversion
  • Advanced transportation Biofuels
  • Biomass for heat and Power
  • Biomaterials and biochemicals
  • Agricultural Practices
  • Waste Valorization technologies

Activities and future perspectives

At present, EUBREN represents an experiment to create a community of European Researchers able to really share knowledge and improve the efficiency of the biomass research activity, avoiding competition and promoting fruitful cooperation. The experiment is running on its first year life, living thanks to the contribution of 23 founding members:
