Why this page[edit]

I'm still concerned that primary topic seems to be more trouble than it's worth.

The discussion at Talk:Boater#Requested move 26 June 2018 reactivated my interest. It seems a dead duck, but some interesting comments about moving the DAB. See also User talk:Andrewa/Why primary topic is to be avoided#Boater.

Not yet ready to launch as a proposal, and this may not be the last complete rethink. But definitely getting closer to something. Andrewa (talk) 01:33, 5 July 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Food for thought[edit]

Mohammed Nasim[edit]

See Talk:Mohammed Nasim (politician)#Requested move 28 June 2018, which seems likely to succeed.

Now:

  • What exactly is the advantage of this move to the reader?
  • If the move goes ahead, isn't it quite likely that in the fullness of time we'll be moving it back, breaking links in the process? The fact that no fewer than three of the List of Afghan detainees at Guantanamo Bay have this exact name seems to indicate it's quite a common one.

Food for thought? Andrewa (talk) 02:28, 5 July 2018 (UTC)[reply]

It did succeed, although the non-admin close left a loop at the above link to the talk page, but see Talk:Mohammed Nasim. Andrewa (talk) 02:22, 12 August 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Blame_It_on_Me_(George_Ezra_song)[edit]

removing (George Ezra song) doesn't help George Ezra fans [1]... exactly, the disambiguation helps people find this article, the damage is reduced by the redirect that will be created but not all search engines will list it at all, and none of them as prominently as now as future links would tend to go to the base name if the move went ahead. And of course this move will break external links, again the redirect will reduce the damage of this. The main damage is that if at some time in the future it's moved again, that will break external links more seriously, and quite pointlessly. Andrewa (talk) 15:54, 16 July 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Interesting RM Talk:R. Nicholas Burns#Requested move 16 July 2018.

This one would do no great immediate harm, as external links would be preserved by the redirect (that's assuming nobody links to the DAB).

Long term however, there's the prospect of breaking these links if P T status were ever lost, and no obvious upside.

The RM is really just a waste of time at best. Andrewa (talk) 21:55, 23 July 2018 (UTC)[reply]
