List of Organ Scholars at British Universities and Colleges

Hi there; I see you went through and made amendments to a large number of college articles for the University of Oxford and the University of Cambridge, including an interwiki link to an article you've created here. However, you've incorrectly formatted these edits. If you want a 'see also' reference you should use the {{seealso}} template. Can you go through and fix them (since you made those edits, that's only fair right?)? There are also concerns I have regarding the notability of examples you have provided on the List of Organ Scholars at British Universities and Colleges article: Wikipedia is not an indiscriminate collection of information and the examples you include must be notable. Church break-out articles' talk pages and WikiProjects

Hi,

I notice you've recently created a load of break-out articles for churches on the Isle of Wight (eg: Holy Cross Church, Binstead from Binstead). Appreciate the work put in to clarify the articles. However, it would have been useful if you'd had a look at the talk pages - most of the places will have had a {{WikiProject Wight}} template at the top, which could do with being on the church's page as well. If you're doing this for churches in other areas of the country, this could affect other WikiProjects as well. Hope that's helpful. :)

London Pneumatic Despatch Company

Interesting article -- a definite for DYK!

Could you have another look at the lede paragraph of the article? The first sentence introduces a company, the second and third sentences discuss the railway that the company built, but do not say as such -- the subject of the two sentences is still the LPD Company.

In the quote I changed 'value' to 'valve', since the context suggests that is the correct word. (Could you double-check the original source, please?) My handwriting can make these two words look identical, so I suspect the same transcription error has occurred here too.

Incidentally, if you look at the article history you'll see that an anon editor has been making numerous changes -- was that you, not logged-in?

L&Y Railway ships

Hi, re this edit, I created the table with ship article names per WP:MOSSHIP. I see that you've created a number of articles on these ships, which is good. I note the use of a year disambiguator in your titles. As it is quite likely that a number of ships carries the same name, then the use of a year of launch disambiguator is in compliance with MOSSHIP. However, titles should really be at SS Foo or TSS Foo.

I suggest the following moves are made -

1. Duke of Albany (1907) to TSS Duke of Albany or TSS Duke of Albany (1907) if more than one ship with that name, with TSS Duke of Albany created as a ship index page.
2. Duke of Argyll (1909) to TSS Duke of Argyll or TSS Duke of Argyll (1909) as above.
3. Duke of Clarence (1892) to TSS Duke of Clarence or TSS Duke of Clarence (1892) as above.
4. Duke of Connaught (1902) to TSS Duke of Connaught or TSS Duke of Connaught (1902) as above.
5. Duke of Cornwall (1898) to TSS Duke of Cornwall or TSS Duke of Cornwall (1898) as above.
6. Duke of Cumberland (1909) to TSS Duke of Cumberland or TSS Duke of Cumberland (1909) as above.
7. Duke of Lancaster (1895) to TSS Duke of Lancaster or TSS Duke of Lancaster (1895) as above.

My personal feeling is that all ships should be dabbed by year of launch, but this is not something that is supported. If it becomes apparant that an article needs to be moved, the previous title can then be turned into a shipindex page, as I did with TSS Duke of Lancaster. Hello Andrew. Many of these ships are not "TSS" as marine steam turbines were not used in passenger vessels until the twentieth century. (TS King Edward was the first.) So the vessels which are prefixed with "TSS" but are not turbine-powered need to be moved again. I have done that with SS Duke of Lancaster (1895). Regards, Kablammo (talk) 21:36, 26 July 2012 (UTC)

I've found a reference to the foundation stone being laid on 27 September 1866 - Nottinghamshire Guardian - Friday 05 October 1866. The English Heritage listing information says that the building was constructed between 1867 and 1868. I can't find any reference to an opening ceremony at the moment. Theodore Stephen Tearne

Hi. I wonder whether you could please help me, regarding the meaning of the letters FSSc after the above man's name? Your article contains the only mention of FSSc after a name that I can find. I'm researching a late 19th century priest who was a Fellow of the Royal Geographical Society, and he also had those same letters after his name (besides FRGS). However, although there are plenty of mentions of the "Science Society, London" on the internet, there is no source (that I can find) to say exactly what it was. My 19th century priest was not a member of the Royal Society (their historical membership list is online) and they use the letters FRS anyway. Hi Andrew. I'm enjoying your work on listed churches. Just one suggestion: you tend to cite the British Listed Buildings website but (although useful) this is an unofficial record, uses obsolete reference numbers, and is not automatically updated as the listings change. The official list, which contains mostly the same information but, unlike BLB, is maintained and uses a current index, is the National Heritage List England (NHLE), which has its own template for referencing (see Template:NHLE). York's churches

Hi Andrew, I've just noticed and been impressed by your recent edits to articles on York's churches. I'm based at York Museums Trust as part of the Yorkshire GLAMwiki Network Project and may be able to help you find more resources on these churches. There's also St Mary's, Castlegate which currently lacks an article and is now a de-consecrated contemporary art space used by York Museums Trust (website here). Perhaps it should get an article? I've not been able to find anything on the National Pipe Organ Register for this church, and also the newspapers have very little. I tend to see details of church restorations if they took place after 1840 or so, but there isn't anything I can find for this church. I see you have recently created this category; I created the original article about W. N. Ashbee. In the interests of consistency, should the category also use his initials, rather than full name? This is how he is generally referred to in sources. Ultimately, there might be a case for renaming both as "Neville Ashbee" as I formed the impression from one source that this is how he was known in his life, but as yet I haven't found enough evidence to justify a change. Church of St Michael and All Angels, Beckwithshaw

You might remember that you very kindly sent me a barnstar for my article on the above, five years ago. As a consequence of the research, I got the building listed on the grounds of it being a pristine and almost unchanged example of the architect's work. However, I've recently learned that the vicar and churchwardens have now gained permission to gut the place on the grounds of modern community needs. This is a small village, not an inner-city church with massive amounts of parochial and social work to do. They are going to remove the pews (designed by the architect) to clear the floor entirely, and punch a hole in the side for a kitchen and lavatory. Other churches in the area have been adapted far more discreetly. They are going to put in a lot of lighting too. All this will completely destroy the type of theatre for storytelling, in an atmosphere of natural light and shade, that Barber went in for. No longer a peaceful otherworld for sacredness and mystery, but now a secular area for a secular approach. The sad thing is that future generations may well want this building, which is a work of art, to go back the way it was, but the pews and maybe other stuff will be gone forever. PS Baron Osy (1851), which you created seems to have some inaccuracies. You state that she was renamed Malakhoff in 1856, but she was still named Baron Osy in April 1857 when she ran down and sank HMRC Curlew. At the time, she was a Belgian registered ship. All Saint's Yafforth - which Pritchett?

Hi Andrew,

I've recently created a page for James Pigott Pritchett Jr of Darlington, son of James Pigott Pritchett of York, and have been trying to work out which of Wikipedia's references to the father actually mean the son.

The page for All Saints' Church, Yafforth which you created a few years ago, says:

The church dates from the twelfth century but was almost completely rebuilt in 1870 to designs by the architect James Pigott Pritchett of Darlington. Pritchett died in 1868 before the church was completed.

There must be an error here - the JP Pritchett who died in 1868 did not practice in Darlington - but I don't know which part is wrong. The listed building register just says "Virtually rebuilt in 1870 by J P Pritchett".

It seems more likely to me that the rebuilding was the work of JP Pritchett of Darlington, who was still alive in 1870 to do the work; but I didn't know if there was a specific source saying that the Pritchett in question had died in 1868 (so was JP Pritchett of York). The answer may be in the York Herald article you cited, but I don't have a login to read that.
