Thanks for the barnstar

Hi Angelbo. Thanks for the barnstar, it is appreciated. I don't remember proofreading that many articles, but I am guilty of a very large number of minor edits. Regards. --Valentinian 19:07, 1 January 2006 (UTC)

Yeah, what he said! Thanks for the barnstar for me too, it's strongly appreciated. I don't feel worthy! GRuban 18:59, 3 January 2006 (UTC)

I, too, thank you for the Barnstar. It feels nice to be recognized for my contributions. I have no plans to stop patrolling and improving the pages on my watchlist. Thanks again. The Bearded One 05:10, 4 January 2006 (UTC)

Oops... posted this in your sandbox talk page

Hi,

I saw on your page a link to Danish beer and a bunch of incomprehensible squiggles (which I took to be Danish). Would you care to expand the article on Danish beer? I'm curious to learn more about its character and history in general, and about more specific brewers than just Carlsberg. It's not something I know much about, so I thought I'd ask if you're interested; I'd definitely like to read more on it!

All the best --Daniel11 02:04, 4 April 2006 (UTC)

P.S.

I was interested to see you're a "liberal" and an economist!

Also, maybe you can also suggest some worthwhile publicly traded Danish companies... ;) --Daniel11 02:19, 4 April 2006 (UTC)

There are no tags related specifically to an article that reads as an ad so I would use something like {{db|This article reads as an advertisement.}} You can actually put anything you want after the "db|". You might also wish to make a note on the creator's talk page and give them the chance to rewrite the article.24fan24 01:47, 14 August 2006 (UTC)

Actually articles that read as an advertisement do not qualify for speedy deletion. You may want to consider a prod tag or NPOV tag 24fan24 01:47, 14 August 2006 (UTC)

Problem with a user

Hi there. I have a problem with a user called Deathrocker. This user was recently banned for removing sourced information from articles, and for making personal attacks at people who do not have accounts. This user is also on revert parole from an arbirrition case that led to him being banned for three months. This user is using a serious of ip adresses to revert any user, anmynous or registered that change anything on articles he deems as 'his' claiming it as vandalism or restricted user changes [1], [2], [3], [4], [5], [6], [7]. He also just used an ip to delete your post from my talk page and instead leave a personal attack [8].

I ask if you can check these ips against his. I also ask if this user can be banned from these articles, as he has grown into a habit of calling admin abuse when he is banned, and removing large sections of text written by others on article discussion pages, claiming they are banned users. He has even done this to an admin, claiming admin abuse when the admin reverted him. This is on top of the persistant violations of his parole regarding personal attacks and using sockpuppets to perform massive reverts, which he openly admits to being his by signing them as himself [9].

Please help the community with this user who refuses to follow policy or respect that he does not own Wikipedia, and that articles are not just his, they are to reflect the opinions and points of all people, and that he cannot refuse to let others edit articles because he said so.

Here is his user contributions to show what i mean [10]. He also states here on his userpage he is a sockcatcher, even though he was banned for making this account and posting this personal attack against another user. [11].

Of note also is while i was writing this, he used two more ips again to blank your comment and my user page leaving a personal attack, signing it as himself [12], [13].

—Preceding unsigned comment added by 86.143.124.233 (talkcontribs)

The user who left that message looks a lot like User:Leyasu to me. I have blocked that IP for a week; Leyasu is a banned user (see the list) and should not be editing here under any username or IP. As a banned user, his edits can be reverted by anyone without penalty. If Deathrocker is violating the rulings in his arbcom case or otherwise causing trouble, you may report him at WP:AE. --Idont Havaname (Talk) 17:24, 30 August 2006 (UTC)
Reply on Idont Havaname (Talk) talk page Angelbo 18:06, 30 August 2006 (UTC)

Leyasu and Deathrocker...

These were two editors that I was in arbitration cases with earlier this year (Wikipedia:Requests for arbitration/Leyasu and Wikipedia:Requests for arbitration/Deathrocker). The arbitration committee placed limits on how often those editors can revert edits without being blocked. Leyasu violated the restrictions so often that he ended up being blocked indefinitely by another admin who wasn't previously involved in the dispute. That admin (Circeus) posted on WP:AN/I about that, and I and several others endorsed Leyasu's indefinite block. Earlier this month, Circeus added Leyasu to the list of banned users, and no one has reverted that.

Deathrocker has been blocked a few times since the cases too, but he hasn't been blocked indefinitely. Leyasu claimed that Deathrocker is currently under a three-month ban, but that isn't true. Deathrocker has never been blocked for more than 1 month. [14] I think Deathrocker is using IPs so that he won't be caught violating his revert parole, although he actually isn't violating it if he is reverting banned users.

There is a discussion at WP:AE right now about what has been happening in their dispute and how to enforce it.

--Idont Havaname (Talk) 18:14, 30 August 2006 (UTC)

I think it was Deathrocker who changed your comment. His comment was right, but he was wrong to remove yours. It's pretty easy to figure out which one's which (Deathrocker or Leyasu) based on their typical editing patterns and IPs; they are in different countries, so their IPs would be substantially different. --Idont Havaname (Talk) 18:17, 30 August 2006 (UTC)

Hi, I think page naming has led to some confusion, sorry about that.

The only page that I did delete was Long term abuse/Willy on Wheels, which was only a redirect. Note the absence of a "Wikipedia:" prefix on this page name; I deleted this because the absence of a prefix puts the redirect in the article namespace, and the WoW abuse page is not article material. This is simply one of many "cross-namespace" redirects that have been deleted recently. In short, I did not delete "Wikipedia:Long term abuse/Willy on Wheels", only a redirect to it.

The target of the redirect is the page I think you were looking for – the WoW abuse page itself, Wikipedia:Long term abuse/Willy on Wheels. (Note the "Wikipedia:" prefix this time). Wikipedia:Long term abuse/Willy on Wheels was later deleted, however, by Xoloz, following a consensus to do so on MfD. You may review the discussion that led to the page's deletion here.

The other pages you mentioned were deleted by Cyde and others following the conclusion of the MfD discussion. I assume their reasoning is the same as whoever nominated the WoW abuse page; I have played no part in the discussion, so I'm unsure as to the exact reasons. The WP:WoW redirect was deleted not by me but by Kusma. Since its target page no longer existed at that point it was eligible for speedy deletion (see CSD R1, "redirects to non-existent pages").

Hope this clears things up – Gurch 19:33, 31 August 2006 (UTC)

Thanks for that! I've spent the last couple of weeks writing a small program to help with vandal fighting (basically it reads through Recent Changes, picks out suspicious edits, and presents them to you one at a time), and yesterday I decided to try it out. From the response I've recieved, I guess it's pretty effective. Still needs improvement, though. Nice to see my efforts are appreciated – Gurch 11:00, 28 September 2006 (UTC)

Re: Language Stersken

First, sorry for such a late reply. I have been away for quite some time (:

Hm.. very interesting (: No, I didn't know that it meant that! It's very cool to find that out now though. I had mostly created it randomly, trying to make it sound like something from a North Germanic language. I initially had created the name before I went further into making my conlang, and before I had studied much Danish/Swedish/Norwegian.

So then, on to Stersken: Very sadly I have lost all my documentation (grammars, vocabulary, written texts) when my harddrive crashed recently. I can't afford at this time to get the data recovered therein. But I can tell you what I do remember from my head: it was indeed a mix or the North Germanic languages, with some English and German thrown in; the word order was most close to Danish and English; like German it showed four grammatical cases; as well, the definite article was suffixed to the noun.

Here is an example declension of 'sprosk':
  Singular Plural
Indefinite Definite Indefinite Definite
Nominative en sprosk sprosken sprösker spröskern
Accusative ett sprosk sprosket sprösker spröskert
Dative em sprosk sprosksöm em sprösker spröskersöm
Genitive es sprosk sproskes sprösker spröskeres

So, one can see the traditional Germanic Dative -m and Genitive -s suffixes. Also, a sort of joke by me was to split en/ett into Nominative and Accusative, respectively, as one can see in the table. There were no noun genders in my conlang. em/söm is just some fun irregularity that every language should have (:

I unfortunately only remember the pronouns and their declensions for I, thou, and it

First Person Singular, I Second Person Singular, thou Third Person Singular, it
N isk du den
A mer der det
D mer der dem

The possessives were 'min', 'din' and 'dens' for 'isk', 'du' and 'den', respectively. Something that I have always wondered about is why there is a difference between the first person singular pronoun of North Germanic and other Germanic languages. I think it might have something to do with the orthographic 'g', which is sometimes pronounced as a voiceless velar plosive, or [k], which in extension often trades places with voiceless palatal fricative or voiceless velar fricative (German ich- and ach-Laute). Old Norse shows 'ek' for first person singular, but modern Icelandic shows 'ég'. I'm only an 'armchair linguist' (simply linguistics as a hobby, no formal study), though (:

I have one treasure you might enjoy. It's a story I wrote in Stersken about a pirate named Morsom Drepper. It is, as far as I know, the only surviving text I wrote:

An Moendagsoem var isk en Pyrat

Isk klättdet an det, Morsom Drepperett til traffa. Vann man saga "den läta", man saga "Morsom Drepper läta"

Van gab mer ett Svert, en var av Fleisk und Knosk.

The story is quite silly (:

In Stersken, as you may have noticed, the words show both influences from the High German consonant shift and lack thereof. Some set phrases used in that text, that may not be clear: 'ladt' is the simple past form of 'läta' and 'den läta' is like German 'es gibt', literally "it lets .."; 'äje' - Ja! (but the pirate way); indefinite articles are used as relative pronouns.

I can give you a translation, but I'd like to see your attempt to translate, first (:

Well, that's enough for now I suppose, as much as I can remember at the moment at least. If you have any more questions, just ask me.

Danish real estate bubble

Hi Mads, thanks for your comments regarding the newly started page on the Danish property bubble. I respect your opinion that the market may not be in a bubble, but I have to stress that the article doesn't say that it is. It merely says that some observers (including leading researchers in the Danish property market such as Jens Lunde) think that it might be a bubble. I'm somewhat pressed to see how you can think the current prices in CPH can be justified clearly there has been a significant correction going on since last summer. Some of it is showing up in the latest official stats. Living in CPH, and talking to friends and relatives my impression is that lots of stuff that happened in fall 2006, spring 2007 is not yet reflected. This is also supported by various aggregate data and data from real estate agents (which tends to have lower latency) such as Home, that claims that actual sale prices are now at 2005-levels. Sales prices seem to have decreased 15% in CPH while asking prices somewhat more. Nationwide I don't know how the state is or how the figures will turn out. I fully agree that the article needs more citations but I won't have time to fix it until next weekend. I can think of citations for all assertions in the article. Thanks for your suggestions!

added by user:Para82
I find it interesting that you - as an economist! - have more faith in real estate agents (who after all earn their living by selling houses and obviously know that if buyers expect price falls they are not going to buy) than in independent economic organizations like OECD and IMF who have warned about the Danish real estate market being in a bubble state (btw, history shows that the real estate industry often try to deny/downplay crashes, so it's not paranoia not to trust them.). As for the Nationalbank, it actually said "some areas" might be exceptions and honestly I don't even consider Nationalbanken as completely neutral, as it has an interest in

ensuring stability of the economy so they clearly prefer "soft landings". Anyway, I agree the article needs citations (which I already said I would do in the weekend) but currently it has been put up for deletion for another reason (incidentally(?), by a friend of yours) because "Wikipedia is not a crystal ball". What about United States housing bubble - are you going to delete that as well as all the other "bubble"-articles? The same reasoning applies to that article. Para82 21:04, 22 March 2007 (UTC)

Hej Mads

Hi Angelbo

Thanks fort he Barnstar and I agree with you: Wikipedia needs more happiness and you made me just that with your appreciation of all my work :-)

Now to your questions:

  • The colour codes you use is not in compliance with APP-6a, I would like to know what your reason is.

It is all about easy comprehensibility. APP-6a knows just one colour for friendly units and I want to make it easily understandable for everyone of what kind a unit is: be Logistics or Armoured. Also in this way one can easily see to which Corps (Engineers, Infantry,…) a unit is part of. I think the best example for my use of colour is the Graphic of the German Army: [[17]]

  • You use a star in stead of a X, I would like to know what your reason is.

Once again: comprehensibility (and also a bit of artistic license) The “X” seemed to me to bland and so I choose to use a star, as most NATO countries use stars as rank insignia for their Generals (USA, Italy, Germany, and so on).

  • The Jægerkorpset is a designated as an SOF and not and a SF in Denmark

It is? I get most information about the current military structures from the official homepages and the Wikipedia pages of the Armies. The designation there is as a Special Forces unit, but I can change this.

  • You list the Army Operational Command as a corps, and call it Army Command, to my knowledge there is not such corps.
  • I get a bit confused about your diagram is it supposed to reflect war-time operations or peace-time operations? That is two entirely different organizational structures. Because Danske Division exist only on paper and is part of MNC NNE (multinational Corps, North North East). MNC NNE is a NATO unit Headquarter in Szczecin.

Well, now I’m confused too- as the Wikipedia articles states that there is an Army Command: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Army_Operational_Command_%28Denmark%29 under which command falls the Danish Division and if I follow the link of the Danish Division http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Danish_Division it is called “a permanent and available formation” that commands the two Brigades. After doing some more research- I agree with you- that the Army Command (I do like to abbreviate all the long unit names) is indeed not a Corps and commanded by a Major General (meaning 2 stars are correct). Regarding war-time operations or peace-time operations: I try to include in my graphics all units of an Army, that are active (meaning that they have at least an always active command staff and a base, where the unit is based and its gear stored- i.e. I left out all the Swiss Army units that will only be activated in wartime and which nowadays have neither an active command (all officers are in reserve) and which do not have a base (as every soldier keeps his gear at home)). This- my intention is sometimes problematic with militia based Armies (like Finland) that only have active Training and Education units, but to me it seems that the Danish Army has nowadays only one structure be it in war or peace (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Danish_Defence_agreement_2005-2009) Could you elaborate what you meant with your statement?

Yes, I did indeed serve in the Armed Services: as Alpino in the 4th RECOMALP, Bolzano. noclador 07:26, 11 April 2007 (UTC)

Hi Angelbo

I changed the Danish Army diagram- I hope it is fine with you now. I do not have a special Software, I created all kinds of different app-6a symbols myself and I arrange them with Photoshop or a similar program into the diagrams. If you look at the app-6 article, there you can see most of the symbols I created- I could send the symbols to you with email or you can just copy them from the app-6 article and then load them into a program (I use Photoshop CS2) and make your own structural graphics :-)

Re: App-6a Symbols I put the symbols in a zip file, but now I need an email address of you to send the file to! noclador 06:52, 18 April 2007 (UTC)

Taxation in Denmark

Do you have plans on writing a Taxation in Denmark article? You could base it on articles dealing with terrorism, extortion, blackmail, and other sorts of crimes against humanity....;-) Mind you, I'm not saying that all taxes are criminal, but some of them feel like it.... My last accountant (before he died) and I often had long conversations. Me being an American, he knew that my attitudes towards the high taxes were skeptical, to put it mildly. I once said to him, "I still don't understand the Danish tax system, even after over 20 years living here, and I don't think I ever will, because I'd have to adopt a criminal mindset to understand it, and I don't want to do that." He laughed a long time and said he understood me perfectly. Even he, an accountant, had to constantly take seminars to follow along with the changing rules. He said it was done deliberately to keep ordinary citizens from understanding just how badly they were getting screwed. He was also skeptical! After all these years I have become very Danish -- I complain about the weather and the taxes -- two things we can't change. -- Fyslee/talk 19:58, 29 April 2007 (UTC)

Yes, it is my plan to write about danish taxes, but it has slow progress. It is a subject that requires an expert in in order to understand it, and those who know their tax-stuff are not talking puplicly. I really like the comparison to terrorism, extortion and blackmail, it made me laugh out lot. In Denmark there is a saying "Don't steal, the government hate competition". Regarding acountants there is one I hold in high regards for his tax knowledge, Mogens Glistrup, the rumors about him are, when he took his examination, he was asked about why he did'nt bring any books? his reply: What should I do with the books? I already read them. Another rumour is that when he went on national TV and showed his tax card with 0%, wich lead to his tax fraud conviction, that the legal code used was a catch-all § that simply states it is illigal to evade taxpaying. To finish off this rambling, yes, people in Denmark are being screwed by overtaxation, it was a particular case of "environmental" tax that promted by political membership.
Best regards

Do you remember "Lejeværdi af egen bolig" (Danish for "the rental value of your own home," an added tax for the value of an imaginary rental income the owner could get if he rented out the house)? We had to pay taxes on money we had never earned! Now if we could only get that 25% sales tax to be deductible, like it is in the USA.´-- Fyslee/talk 05:56, 30 April 2007 (UTC)

Danish beer, WP, barnstar

Mads (or Angelbo),

First of all, thanks for the recognition! I appreciate it greatly, although of course the overwhelming majority of the improvements to beer articles on Wikipedia have been done by other people, and all I really did is add a little bit of organizational stuff and bits and pieces of beer info. Mostly it's the vast number of contributors to the beer project who have done the hard work.

Don't worry about taking a while to get to the Danish beer article; there's plenty of time to read about Danish beer, and in the mean time it's given me a very good opportunity to drink some Danish beer! I'm glad you've already got some material, though, and I will still look forward to the chance to read some more detailed info.

I've also enjoyed reading some other articles on Danish topics, a number of which I'm sure you've been responsible for, and as I think I mentioned before (it's been a while!) it's always cool to see stuff about Danish liberalism, economy, etc.

Thanks again for the barnstar and everything else, and I do look forward to further developments!

Naser Khader

I don't think it is a good idea to remove Naser Khader according to what you heard or even to Khader's note that he is Danish. Simply we are trying in that list of Palestinians to nominate some figures who came from Palestinian roots. Naser Khader's Palestinian roots is a fact not a matter of personal openion. After that if he wants to refer to himself as a danish, this is a personal matter that we are not discussing now.

By the way, in a TV program on Al Jazeera about Arabs outside the Arab World (the program called in Arabic: موعد في المهجر) he talked about himself notonly as a Danish but also as a Palestinian. --Wisamzaqoot 20:33, 9 May 2007 (UTC)

Hov!

Barnstar stuff

Hi Angelbo
Thanks for the "Graphical Designer Barnstar". Forgive me that I didn't thank you then, but I had no idea about the Barnstars until now! But it makes me happy you awarded it to me and thus honoured my contributions. Thanks very much :-) noclador 17:10, 14 May 2007 (UTC)

Coat of arms of Denmark

Hej Mads

Valentinian T / C 22:42, 23 May 2007 (UTC)
