How do I provide verifiable copyright info from non-english language sources? The image I uploaded is supposed to be free domain or something similar, because many images from that site is freely copied and redistributed in many websites, with a simple tag in the caption writing in the source. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Angelsfang (talkcontribs) 05:51, 10 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Does the site have a note (in Chinese) that the image belongs to them and that the release it freely with no copyright ? My machine translation of Chinese is poor but it seems that they are a commercial site. Lots of images from commercial sites are copied all over the internet and it is often difficult to work the licenses out. This image appears to be, as most sporting ones are, a professional image cropped for web display. Somewhere there is information on the actual creator/owner of the photo but I cannot find it. Do you have a link to exactly where the image came from ? - Peripitus (Talk) 06:00, 10 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]
I think I've worked this out. Oports is a professional sports photography organization who make and sell their photos (see here. As such all of their images are copyrighted and we can't host them here. As a general guideline, photos off the internet are almost always copyrighted to someone - it's just not often obvious whom. If you have any queries please drop me a note as I understand that copyright and wikipedia image policies are not easy to get a hang of. - Peripitus (Talk) 06:07, 10 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]
