Re:Canadian Passport (and other passports) - Place of birth does vary

You may have misunderstood, it is very normal for passports to contain the place of birth, for example, My German passport contains my place of birth even though I was born in the UK. It is the norm in most countries. And the removal of it from a passport is irrelevent, sorry. Please also attach references. --Île_flottante~Floating island ^Talk 17:42, 7 October 2009 (UTC)

Glad to be of service! Indeed, you're not alone in being unaware of the inconsistencies regarding how places of birth are listed and passports; this is part of the reason why it's an issue which many people don't know about - and want to know about. (This also explains why it's such an important issue and one worth duly highlighting.) (Also note that the references are already on the page which someone else kindly attached (in the form of the sample images distributed by respective governments).)

Update per November, 2009: I trust you have been aware of the major issues which place of birth has for those who emigrate from their home countries. Also, as you may have heard, countries routinely list places of birth inconsistently - and variably. Indeed, there is no "standard" which exists - and many people are discriminated against because of these varying standards. Canada allows one to petition to have one's place of birth (which lists a country) removed; other countries don't list one's country of birth at all to avoid this issue. It is, indeed, a big one!
