Draft:John Lewis Opera

I'm sorry, but I need specific help. Otherwise I shall just give up on the John Lewis article Terry123jenkins (talk) 16:49, 4 March 2023 (UTC)

Cascade Shops

I am unsure for the reasoning of the decline of the Cascade Shops Wikipedia article. There is prominent coverage not from the local area but the region around Banff about the mall, and most shopping mall Wikipedia articles have significantly less non-local coverage than Cascade Shops. For that reason, I am requesting for you to re-review the article. CnekYT (talk) 19:16, 10 April 2023 (UTC)

Thanks for raising the matter here. WP:LOCAL explains the policy more fully. Your point about "most shopping mall Wikipedia articles" wasn't taken into consideration because of the Wikipedia:OTHERCONTENT guideline. I'm quoting WP policies only to show that this was an objective assessment, and not my own judgement. I won't be re-reviewing; any further review would be better from a "second opinion".--AntientNestor (talk) 20:53, 10 April 2023 (UTC)

Draft:AMD Élan

Hi, thanks for reviewing Draft:AMD Élan but I need help. What should I do to improve? All references I found are linked. I have no idea what I had to do. --Elmepi (talk) 19:09, 29 May 2023 (UTC)

It's a question of significance and notability—see WP:SIGCOV. There should be independent references to show that this product line from AMD made an impact in computer manufacturing early in the 2000's. I had a look at the article List of AMD processors; would it perhaps be a better fit as a new section there? AntientNestor (talk) 20:53, 29 May 2023 (UTC)
Thanks for the fast response! IMHO it was an impact in computer manufacturing early in the 2000's - especially in the emdedded market, but I've no references. Intel didn't offer anything comparable at this time. In general, the references are very poor.
So I put it as a newe section into List of AMD processors? Or what can I do? I'm a little frustrated. --Elmepi (talk) 16:54, 31 May 2023 (UTC)
Although the standard for adding content to an existing article is actually higher than for starting a new article (see here), nonetheless adding the AMD Élan family to the List of AMD processors, including for example its deployment in the Nokia 9110, would be one way forward.
Ideally, for a new article, there would need to be references for the impact within the industry that you describe. Specifically, WP:SIGCOV requires "[…]significant coverage in reliable sources creat[ing] an assumption[…]that a subject merits its own article.". This draft is borderline as it stands (most of the other processors in List of AMD processors do have blue links) so just one external reference supporting "impact" could swing it.
--AntientNestor (talk) 21:19, 31 May 2023 (UTC)
@Elmepi: added another ref supporting "impact" and the draft may now be accepted if resubmitted.--AntientNestor (talk) 11:38, 5 June 2023 (UTC)
Thanky for the advise! I added some cite for the "impact", also packages and relase date. I'll try resubmit. --Elmepi (talk) 20:04, 8 June 2023 (UTC)

Now accepted.--AntientNestor (talk) 20:19, 8 June 2023 (UTC)

Yes, it was! Many thans for your support! --Elmepi (talk) 02:25, 9 June 2023 (UTC)

Time Flies (book)

Regarding Time Flies (book), please remember to check for copyright violations when accepting new drafts into the mainspace. Bennv123 (talk) 12:26, 12 June 2023 (UTC)

Noted—my error.--AntientNestor (talk) 12:28, 12 June 2023 (UTC)

Anne Boleyn

Hi, in this edit you introduced two sfn errors - 1) you removed the Williams 1971 work from the sources. I have restored it. 2) You removed the 2010 listing of Weir's The Lady in the Tower, again I have restored it. I am deeply suspicious of wll the Weir references - nothing against the works or the author, simply the long-standing mess that has been caused by use of the sfn method. DuncanHill (talk) 18:15, 20 July 2023 (UTC)

The Weir reference is in twice (different editions of the same work). When I removed it I caught up Williams as well—misclick. Thanks for picking up on this and restoring it.--AntientNestor (talk) 20:18, 20 July 2023 (UTC)
As you suggest, I would definitely find a user script like User:Trappist the monk/HarvErrors.js to be helpful but the warning at the top of the page about possible deliberately introduced errors by third parties deterred me.--AntientNestor (talk) 20:35, 20 July 2023 (UTC)

Your GA nomination of Erskine Childers (author)

Hi there, I'm pleased to inform you that I've begun reviewing the article Erskine Childers (author) you nominated for GA-status according to the criteria. This process may take up to 7 days. Feel free to contact me with any questions or comments you might have during this period. Message delivered by ChristieBot, on behalf of KJP1 -- KJP1 (talk) 10:02, 26 August 2023 (UTC)

Right - that's me done. I can formally put it On Hold - in which case you'll get a formal Notice - or we can just work through as we're doing. Whichever you prefer. And let me know if you've any queries. KJP1 (talk) 09:36, 27 August 2023 (UTC)
p.s. I should have said; it's a grand article and covers a complex life very well. Is it your first GAN? You've done a great job. KJP1 (talk) 10:40, 27 August 2023 (UTC)
Thanks. As we've noted on the article talk page, I'm only following up on the considerable efforts of others. AntientNestor (talk) 11:01, 27 August 2023 (UTC)
I've covered most of your points now, but there's still the references and FR to format and check for duplication. It looks like it's going to spill over the seven days. AntientNestor (talk) 15:36, 2 September 2023 (UTC)

Your GA nomination of Erskine Childers (author)

The article Erskine Childers (author) you nominated as a good article has passed ; see Talk:Erskine Childers (author) for comments about the article, and Talk:Erskine Childers (author)/GA1 for the nomination. Well done! If the article has never appeared on the Main Page as a "Did you know" item, and has not appeared within the last year either as "Today's featured article", or as a bold link under "In the news" or in the "On this day" prose section, you can nominate it within the next seven days to appear at DYK. Bolded names with dates listed at the bottom of the "On this day" column do not affect DYK eligibility. Message delivered by ChristieBot, on behalf of KJP1 -- KJP1 (talk) 15:00, 5 September 2023 (UTC)

DYK for Erskine Childers (author)

On 19 September 2023, Did you know was updated with a fact from the article Erskine Childers (author), which you recently created, substantially expanded, or brought to good article status. The fact was ... that novelist Erskine Childers was an artilleryman in the British Army, a lieutenant in the Royal Navy, a major in the Royal Air Force, and a staff captain in the Irish Republican Army? The nomination discussion and review may be seen at Template:Did you know nominations/Erskine Childers (author). You are welcome to check how many pageviews the nominated article or articles got while on the front page (here's how, Erskine Childers (author)), and the hook may be added to the statistics page after its run on the Main Page has completed. Finally, if you know of an interesting fact from another recently created article, then please feel free to suggest it on the Did you know talk page.

Erskine Childers

Where's this promised talk page post then? GiantSnowman 13:39, 19 September 2023 (UTC)

It's old discussions at "Article name" and "Requested move 4 August 2018". AntientNestor (talk) 13:47, 19 September 2023 (UTC)
So nothing more recent than 5+ years ago? GiantSnowman 16:54, 19 September 2023 (UTC)
Also the RM is entirely irrelevant. I am no disputing the article name, I am saying the the current wording in he lede violates WP:MOSNICKNAME. GiantSnowman 16:55, 19 September 2023 (UTC)
I'm happy with the usage in the article. MOS:NICK has: "For people who are best known by a pseudonym, the legal name should usually appear first in the article, followed closely by the pseudonym.". That's exactly how it appears.--AntientNestor (talk) 17:21, 19 September 2023 (UTC)
But this is not a pseudonym. This is simply somebody known by his middle name rather than his first name. GiantSnowman 17:26, 19 September 2023 (UTC)
So what was wrong with having "known by his middle name rather than his first name" in the article? And, for that matter, why delete the needful MOS:IPA? (The surname is often pronounced counterintuitively—LibriVox, for one, has it wrong.)--AntientNestor (talk) 20:48, 19 September 2023 (UTC)
Because it violates MOS:NICKNAME, as I have stated. No issues with restoring the IPA if you can find a way of doing so and a source for it... GiantSnowman 21:25, 19 September 2023 (UTC)

WP guidelines are being quoted at me to remove something from the article that needs to be there: that Robert Erskine Childers was always known as just Erskine Childers. If I may quote back: "If a rule prevents you from improving or maintaining Wikipedia, ignore it. [emphasis in original].". This is from Ignore all rules. Furthermore: "[e]diting Wikipedia is all about making improvements, not following rules", and "do what seems sensible" are recommendations advocated in Wikipedia:What "Ignore all rules" means. Any help?--AntientNestor (talk) 07:02, 20 September 2023 (UTC)

But that would be apparent from the article title/infobox etc. GiantSnowman 18:18, 20 September 2023 (UTC)
MOS:INFOBOXPURPOSE: "[…] the purpose of an infobox: [is] to summarize (and not supplant) key facts that appear in the article.". The article needs a quick clarification of the apparent discrepancy in this "key fact", readily available to the reader in the lead.
(Sorry—quoting WP guidelines shouldn't be becoming a habit.)--AntientNestor (talk) 20:27, 20 September 2023 (UTC)
Your position is against guidelines and common sense. "Care must be taken to avoid implying that a person who does not generally use all their forenames or who uses a familiar form has actually changed their name." You are not doing that. GiantSnowman 21:06, 20 September 2023 (UTC)
He used "Erskine" from the outset. Pse help by suggesting a form of words conveying his usage, but without implying that he "actually changed their name". Meanwhile, I've found a RS for the pronunciation. AntientNestor (talk) 07:07, 21 September 2023 (UTC)
Afterthought: The pronunciation reference is for "Erskine Childers, English-born Irish writer and political activist.". The ref therefore would cover both pronunciation and usage if the index were moved outside the parentheses.--AntientNestor (talk) 09:34, 21 September 2023 (UTC)
Essentially my edit, with the sourced IPA re-instated. GiantSnowman 18:48, 21 September 2023 (UTC)
