Western Electric[edit]

Hi. Welcome to Wikipedia, and thanks for working to improve the site with your edits to Western Electric here, here, and here, as we really appreciate your participation. However, the edits had to be reverted, because Wikipedia cannot accept uncited material. Wikipedia requires that the material in its articles be accompanied by reliable, verifiable (usually secondary) sources explicitly cited in the article text in the form of an inline citation, which you can learn to make here. If you ever have any other questions about editing, or need help regarding the site's policies, just let me know by leaving a message for me in a new section at the bottom of my talk page. Thanks. Nightscream (talk) 03:20, 17 November 2021 (UTC) (There is no online source for the directory, other than an image of the directory locations with addresses taken from a printed directory that a Western Electric employee has in his possession.)— Preceding unsigned comment added by Antonio cruz wiki (talkcontribs) [reply]

Please do not add uncited or poorly cited information to articles, as you did with some of the information in these edits to Western Electric. While some of the information is supported by citations, and I thank you for adding it, you also added material lacking in citations, such as Celia G Martin Thigpen in the employees table, and material supported by citations of sources that are either not considered reliable under WP:IRS, or which dod not provide enough information for the reader to verify the source. Sources whose content is user-generated, such as ebay, or fan sites hosted by Angelfire, are not reliable sources. Please familiarize yourself with WP:IRS. As for Pat Sajak, the episode would have to be specified in terms of its airdate. Merely saying that it aired some time ago, but rerun in July 2020 is insufficient. As for the rest of the information, thanks for adding it. :) Nightscream (talk) 13:10, 25 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Wikipedia and copyright[edit]

Control copyright icon Hello Antonio cruz wiki! Your additions to Bell Labs have been removed in whole or in part, as they appear to have added copyrighted content without evidence that the source material is in the public domain or has been released by its owner or legal agent under a suitably-free and compatible copyright license. (To request such a release, see Wikipedia:Requesting copyright permission.) While we appreciate your contributions to Wikipedia, there are certain things you must keep in mind about using information from sources to avoid copyright and plagiarism issues.

  • You can only copy/translate a small amount of a source, and you must mark what you take as a direct quotation with double quotation marks (") and cite the source using an inline citation. You can read about this at Wikipedia:Non-free content in the sections on "text". See also Help:Referencing for beginners, for how to cite sources here.
  • Aside from limited quotation, you must put all information in your own words and structure, in proper paraphrase. Following the source's words too closely can create copyright problems, so it is not permitted here; see Wikipedia:Close paraphrasing. Even when using your own words, you are still, however, asked to cite your sources to verify the information and to demonstrate that the content is not original research.
  • We have strict guidelines on the usage of copyrighted images. Fair use images must meet all ten of the non-free content criteria in order to be used in articles, or they will be deleted. To be used on Wikipedia, all other images must be made available under a free and open copyright license that allows commercial and derivative reuse.
  • If you own the copyright to the source you want to copy or are a legally designated agent, you may be able to license that text so that we can publish it here. Understand, though, that unlike many other sites, where a person can license their content for use there and retain non-free ownership, that is not possible at Wikipedia. Rather, the release of content must be irrevocable, to the world, into either the public domain (PD) or under a suitably-free and compatible copyright license. Such a release must be done in a verifiable manner, so that the authority of the person purporting to release the copyright is evidenced. See Wikipedia:Donating copyrighted materials.
  • Also note that Wikipedia articles may not be copied or translated without attribution. If you want to copy or translate from another Wikipedia project or article, you must follow the copyright attribution steps described at Wikipedia:Copying within Wikipedia. See also Help:Translation#License requirements.

It's very important that contributors understand and follow these practices, as policy requires that people who persistently do not must be blocked from editing. If you have any questions about this, you are welcome to leave me a message on my talk page. Thank you. TornadoLGS (talk) 20:10, 22 January 2022 (UTC)[reply]

The original owner, Rich Johns, of the 1975 Buick Gran Sport used the sales literature from GM of Canada and the sales order of the vehicle he posted in 2014 on the v8buick.com forums giving information for what were the options in his wording and methods of listing. The car images posted are similar to what was described in the lists of items. Used the wording and formatted the description of each item in a bullet list. The other site copied the information from the original source, that was referenced from, and noticed the same car picture from the owner. The value of the information by the owner and documentation, fits correctly into the article for Gran Sport 1975 Buick Century which has been omitted for that unique year. Thankfully, the source being the owner's post on v8buick.com being copied from a post, "1975 Buick Century Gran Sport Discussion in 'The Bench' started by Rich Johns, Jul 20, 2014" was used as external website as source of information. Reverting this. There is no copyright issue on the source. https://www.v8buick.com/index.php?threads/1975-buick-century-gran-sport.285742/ Antonio cruz wiki (talk) 03:39, 28 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Domestic Versions 2019, 2020, 2021[edit]

Hello, I'm Mr.weedle. I noticed that you made a change to an article, TurboTax, but you didn't provide a source. I’ve removed it for now, but if you’d like to include a citation to a reliable source and re-add it, please do so! If you think I made a mistake, or if you have any questions, you can leave me a message on my talk page. Thanks. Mr.weedle (talk) 04:47, 31 August 2022 (UTC)[reply]

I have tested the three versions 2019, 2020, and 2021 and determined the product uses the license code as an end-user. I provided a source for the 2021 version from the Intuit website where to find the 16-character license code, as it is the current version and there is a reference to th 2019 version uses 14 character license. The 2021 versions are currently installed on my test equipment and can provide images of the feature in the Help menu or the software activation window that is requiring 2019 and 2020 to be activated until validation. Antonio cruz wiki (talk) 04:55, 31 August 2022 (UTC)[reply]
The problem is that we can NOT use your own experience in articles. In fact, we have several policies that forbid using your own experience in article, primarily No original research. We are a tertiary source, not a secondary or primary source. Your experience is first person, primary information. We can't use that. We can only publish information that has been published in secondary publications that are considered reliable sources. Car and Driver, Popular Science, CNN, NYT, like that. When you have some personal experience, that's fine, but you have to go find a secondary source that backs up the claim. That falls under our policy on verification. Every fact must be verifiable. I have the same problem with my industry, being a pioneer in alternative uses of UV, and I can't insert any of that information into any article, except for what little has been covered by reliable sources. So the rule applies to all of us. All encyclopedias are this way, they publish a summary of what has already been written about in books, magazine, newspapers and the like. You can't copy verbatim (that would be copyright infringement), but you summarize what they published, in your own words. Dennis Brown - 19:26, 31 August 2022 (UTC)[reply]
I can provide the software images of the software interface that show the requirements in license codes and activation modifications. I will provide the images as my own work to include in the section. The only references at the moment are the software interface and what was provided from the software company help forums with computer problems. The reasons to do the inclusion are these three years have dramatically changed how to load and limited the tax software activation. Software that can't be activated probably or limited results in purchasing the same version after computer problems. There seems to be no sources to show this change feature and compare to the other competition tax software or previous versions. Antonio cruz wiki (talk) 22:39, 5 September 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Images of a copyrighted software program are usually copyrighted, so including them is against policy. Again, this would be your own research, WP:OR, which isn't allowed. Simply put, an encyclopedia does NOT do it's own, original research. We only publish what other reliable sources have said, summarized, and that is all. If no sources have said anything about the feature change, then you can not include it in the article. That is at the very core of our policy on verification, WP:V. Any claim you make MUST be able to be verified by independent sources. No sources means, you can't add it. Dennis Brown - 23:01, 5 September 2022 (UTC)[reply]
I will review any comparisons made by the competition software, Taxcut, that might refer to the changes in Turbotax. That is the alternative option, but as I understand will not include further without a reliable source. Although, will include some information under Talk for anyone that might have or not seen this change in this three years. Antonio cruz wiki (talk) 23:28, 5 September 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Using talk is fine, and often helpful, as it may prod someone else to poke around and find a source. I know it can be frustrating, but being a tertiary source (encyclopedia) we are duty bound to publish only from outside our own experiences. Just a note, sometimes it is fine to use primary sources, ie: from their own website, as long as it isn't contentious material. Usually, features isn't. You just have to be careful to summarize, not copy over, and stick to what it says, don't draw conclusions or assumptions based on the info (ie: WP:SYNTH). Just keep it short, or it looks like advertising. Dennis Brown - 23:43, 5 September 2022 (UTC)[reply]

I have indicated "My relationship with Tung-Sol" into the talk section. I am not advertising, nor publicizing, nor promoting any person or anything about Tung-Sol. I have seen the old Orange Street factory thousands of time by walk and by transportation and was inquired what was that building and what did it do. I am an interpreter and process financial and immigration documentation for people in my neighborhood, in fact when I go to the apartment complex across from the factory, I can see the factory just above the interstate highway as I look out a window. I only own three Wagner 9004 lamps for replacement on my 1990/1991 Dodge Spirit, which are the pictures I provided to add to the article. I would kindly ask to not to be blocked from Wikipedia as I have provided information to help readers, such as myself, have learned new facts more about an article. Some informational edits were an effort to enhance the article but not going against a proficient editor in their knowledge of WP rules. I am a novice with attempts to learn the editing as I had become better at copyright material and referencing than previously had. If seen that I was disruptive, it was not what I intended as I attempted to re-use the information that was weeks researched into another article or elsewhere in the article or in a different method. Antonio cruz wiki (talk) 20:28, 14 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]

No response or acknowledgment re: persistent addition of copied content, WP:COI, or WP:OR. 2601:19E:4180:6D50:0:0:0:3F00 (talk) 19:25, 14 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]

I attempted to modify the table from Notable Employees to former employees but was not logged on. I saw that it was not possible and presumed that I was not responding or acknowledging the proficient editor's advise the first time, so it shows as "persistent addition of copied content." I apologize that my computer access had two instances in the article in reverting and modifying, were not timed to have determine outcomes. This was the reason I included the "My relationship with Tung-Sol" in the talk after notice it was not there. Antonio cruz wiki (talk) 20:42, 14 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]

I rather not be problematic with Administrators on Wikipedia. I am a user that registered to make edits of articles that my eyes can see, my ears have heard, my hands have touched, or my mind has thought about from something of interest at times random. Just edits of a missing fact or added information is my goal for those with curiosity. Although, I focus on telecom companies and its' history because I am Admin of two large facebook groups (former AT&T and former Western Electric) and cars like Buick Century/Regal or car related because I owned them and have interest. I like to focus on Newark and other nearby locales with persons, places, or things. I am not a librarian nor work with any publishing companies, nor work for any businesses as I am self-employed as a translator with financial and immigration documentation for my neighborhood community. I do not want to be an Administrator on Wikipedia, but just be an amateur user to enhance a few articles or add several entries in an established article for knowledge growth of your encyclopedia platform. With administrations help, I might be more proficient as well to your standards. I have no interest in marketing or profiting with my content on Wikipedia. Request reason:

Administration, I have been on Wikipedia in good faith as a novice since 2009 with just a few edits. In 2021, 2022, as well as beginning 2023 I began to do more contributions with facts that it was noticed by several users as evident in my talk with errors or suggestions. I have had a progression in sourcing the reference by reading several rules or guides to provide the information and knowing how to manually reference the source by a typed format. I have looked at the material and have done changing of words or modifying the content in lists or thinking a sentence or phrase in my thoughts as suggested to avoid copyright material, At times, according to the guide, I have changed a few sentences that look like paraphrase if you think that it would be a copyright issue, I would not continue. The slight paraphrase is most of my style because of the material is from defunct companies. Recently, I focused lots of research time for an article Tung-Sol, which caused an issue on how I placed a table as Notable employees without the notability being in the guides of a WP:WTAF, so it was reverted by 2601:19e:4180:6d50::3f00 and I noticed that it did not have employees that had separate articles as another member suggested in another article. I wanted to undo the change and modify it to Former employee list to save the work that added to the history of the article, but it appeared I was being disruptive towards the user. After this, I noticed a serious of reverts or undoing of my contributions with different reasons. It went further into admin intervention that olsargia noticed I was in good faith and if needed some assistance would provide for me in knowing more "how to or err." This was related to me explaining my WP:COI towards the articles in question to 2601:19e:4180:6d50::3f00. Later, I was blocked for warnings in copyright material and I have spent reading various items in your guides learning. I see some areas of not sourcing were a problem and I did better with sourcing, but it seems that my style needs C.E. or shows verbatim copying. I found the following examples that were in the articles referred as c.e or copying or copyright or verbatim: Bell Labs, Western Electric and McGraw-Edison that have to do with copyright editing. All other items have to do with other issues that were focused before and after the blocking that factored more the user, 2601:19e:4180:6d50::3f00 having me blocked as disruptive and malicious. I ask, to not be blocked as I can provide something to the community when it comes upon my mind or life or while doing something else that I find needs an inclusion in an article. I have made presumable the last edit on Tung-Sol by taking the last pictures, https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tung-Sol#/media/File:Banister-tungsol-morriscanal-subway.jpg https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tung-Sol#/media/File:Wagner2old.jpg https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tung-Sol#/media/File:Wagner1new.jpg https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tung-Sol#/media/File:Howardlamp1.jpg that I own the copyrights and placed in wikimedia commons, of the factories and bulbs for the article. I also will not edit the Western Electric article, unless nightscreem does not find my contributions important to the article. Also, I will provide limited information for Bell Labs as there are many that provide information, without resources verified. You can see, from the recent issues of copyright that there are three articles and maybe determine where is my faults. At anytime was I being malicious in destroying the article or creating vandalism. I was attempting to provided additional information to articles that lacked such information. Here is what are the four recent copyright related items and please note that some of my contributions were still used in the article so it has value of importance or is half wrong or half right to 2601:19e:4180:6d50::3f00: :Western Electric: Example 1 :Source: https://www.thebmi.org/portfolio/western-electric-baltimore-works/ :“Decreased demand for copper cable due to technological and market forces led to the closing of the Western Electric Baltimore Works on February 28, 1986.
