Please don't collapse citations

You make my work more difficult by changing this (br added for display here):

|last=Smith
|first=Gerrit
|authorlink=Gerrit Smith
|url=https://archive.org/details/africanreposito66socigoog/page/n47/mode/1up
|title=Letter to R[alph] R[andolph] Gurley, Secretary of the American Colonization Society, November 24, 1835
|date=1836
|work=African Repository
|volume=12
|pages=35–37}}

into the unreadable:

Cite journal|last=Smith |first=Gerrit |authorlink=Gerrit Smith |url=https://archive.org/details/africanreposito66socigoog/page/n47/mode/1up |title=Letter to R[alph] R[andolph] Gurley, Secretary of the American Colonization Society, November 24, 1835 |date=1836 |work=African Repository |volume=12|pages=35–37

Please stop doing this, at least on the articles dealing with U.S. history 1820-1860, which is mostly what I am working on. Thank you. deisenbe (talk) 12:48, 4 March 2022 (UTC)

What is with your claiming ownership of this? Have you ever stopped to think that you using a citation that is different from literally every other citation form used in the article makes my work more difficult? Wikipedia is not built for you. It's built for everyone. Using the same citation form as the other citations in an article moves us all closer to that end. Using one citation form that's different from all others simply because you find it easier goes against that end. Anwegmann (talk) 14:18, 4 March 2022 (UTC)
I know I'm replying to an old thread, but I work a lot with cites and I had to comment. I absolutely hate spread out cites, they are screen format breakingly bad. They may well appear fine on you screen, but not everyone uses the same screen format or device. - LCU ActivelyDisinterested transmissions °co-ords° 20:53, 12 April 2022 (UTC)
@ActivelyDisinterested: Yep! My point exactly. It's endlessly frustrating. I appreciate the note. Anwegmann (talk) 21:25, 12 April 2022 (UTC)

Hi Anwegmann. I've reinstated my cite at Americo-Liberian people. It's needed to support the 10th reference "Grant 2008, p. 383". {{sfn}} templates need a full cite to link too. - LCU ActivelyDisinterested transmissions °co-ords° 20:51, 12 April 2022 (UTC)

@ActivelyDisinterested: Makes sense. Anwegmann (talk) 21:23, 12 April 2022 (UTC)
