There actually was no one named Aranel Alasse, as far as I know. It's just a translation of my name (Sarah Joy) into either Quenya or Sindarin (I still have yet to figure out which...), according to Quenya Lapseparma. I just wanted to be a little more unique, amongst so many other people with the same name. (But, even so, I realize that I'm not the only Sarah Joy to think of doing this.)

(SARAH (f.) - Heb. 'princess'; aranel "princess", thus Aranel itself and JOY (f.) - 'joy'; alasse "joy", thus Alasse itself)

It's been a long time since I started using this nickname, so it's hard to remember all the details that I once knew, but... I'm pretty sure Alasse is Quenya. (The vowel-ending really tipped me off to make me think so.) I was originally inclined to think Aranel is Sindarin, but since it's listed on Quenya Lapseparma, I defaulted to thinking that it's Quenya. (Although, I did make an effort to find out, at the time I decided upon the nickname--but I can't remember what I concluded, anymore.)

Funnily enough, though, I'm not sure who originally decided that Aranel means Princess. The only instance of the word Aranel that I've seen is in The Silmarillion, and it refers to Dior Eluchíl--who happens to be a guy, and, therefore, can't possibly be a princess....  ;) But maybe Tolkien put the definition somewhere in his notes and his son published it in one of those many books that I have yet to read...

So... Despite the lingering confusion I have, I have yet to find a better translation of my name than this one, so I'll just stick with it.  :)
