On "Lead"[edit]

Dear Arcfrk, I have left a response here [1] which you might like to consider. Kind regards, --BF 22:53, 29 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Simple English[edit]

"Simple English" wikipedia was created expressly for the purpose of making articles accessible to unsophisticated readers. To the extent that this is possible to do at all, I think all efforts to write widely accessible (but, inevitably, non-comprehensive) articles should be focussed there, and not channeled through yet another wiki-project. Arcfrk (talk) 05:08, 17 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Was it really for unsophisticated readers, or for those whose knowledge of English is unsophisticated (but who may be sophisticated in other languages)? Michael Hardy (talk) 23:24, 19 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

.... and now I find an answer: at this page it says:

Simple English is a simplified form of the English language. Its intention is to make content more understandable to those less familiar to the language.

You can't say that if a foreigner doesn't know our language as well as we do then he's "unsophisticated". Michael Hardy (talk) 23:27, 19 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

None of this was meant perjoratively, of course! Otherwise, being a foreigner myself, I would then be very open to the "unsophistication" charge. I was sloppy in the description: perhaps, you are right that the initial target audience of the Simple English Wiki was the people whose mother tongue was not English. But if you look at the paragraph preceding the one you quoted, it lists several other categories, including children and students. Yes, it is the linguistic (un)sophistication that's the key principle behind the Simple English wiki, but as a beneficial side effect, its correct application results in more broadly accessible texts. resolving your conflicts with Mathsci[edit]

I'm trying to resolve (but not sort out) your conflicts with Mathsci. Have you followed the discussion in Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Mathematics#Problem editor? Could you reply to my question to you posted there? Oded (talk) 19:16, 6 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I have removed a note from your userpage, since it was a violation of no personal attacks.[2] If you have concerns about this editor, there are venues in which to address them, but posting an attack on your userpage is not one of them. For best results, please try to present your concerns in a civil and neutral way, with clear diffs of the actions that you have concerns about. Thanks, --Elonka 00:17, 7 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Personal attack[edit]

I have removed this blatant personal attack. If you continue making personal attacks such as this, you will be blocked. Also, I'd suggest reading WP:LEGAL before accusing another editor of making edits that are of questionable legality. Dreadstar 22:10, 7 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]
