Speedy deletion nomination of Pure Devices[edit]

A tag has been placed on Pure Devices requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section G12 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article or image appears to be a clear copyright infringement. For legal reasons, we cannot accept copyrighted text or images borrowed from other web sites or printed material, and as a consequence, your addition will most likely be deleted. You may use external websites as a source of information, but not as a source of sentences. This part is crucial: say it in your own words. Wikipedia takes copyright violations very seriously and persistent violators will be blocked from editing.

If the external website or image belongs to you, and you want to allow Wikipedia to use the text or image — which means allowing other people to modify it — then you must verify that externally by one of the processes explained at Wikipedia:Donating copyrighted materials. If you are not the owner of the external website or image but have permission from that owner, see Wikipedia:Requesting copyright permission. You might want to look at Wikipedia's policies and guidelines for more details, or ask a question here.

If you think that the page was nominated in error, contest the nomination by clicking on the button labelled "Click here to contest this speedy deletion" in the speedy deletion tag. Doing so will take you to the talk page where you can explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. The easiest way to licence text you own elsewhere on the web is to place a notice there that it's licenced under the CC-BY-SA-3.0 and GFDL licences, for anybody to reuse so long as they meet the licence conditions (mostly that whatever they create from it is also relicenced, and that they attribute the original author).

My advice is: don't. Text that you'd write about yourself is basically never suitable for Wikipedia, because Wikipedia is 1) written from a neutral point of view, which is not how people write about themselves, and 2) an encyclopaedia, so we summarise third party sources (in particular, to meet a neutral point of view, but it also makes articles verifiable, and thus the existence of such sources is our usual criterion for inclusion). Secondly, copyright holders (even to text) are almost invariably upset to discover that licensing the text this way means they lose control over it; people who write a page about themselves on Wikipedia are almost invariably quite upset to find out they have no control over it, and anyone can rewrite it to anything, etc.

If you are gung-ho to write an article, gather news articles, magazine articles, and write a neutral article sourced to them. Copy-pasting, even if licenced, almost always gets deleted as promotional anyhow. Wily D 06:17, 12 August 2012 (UTC)[reply]
