Finding reliable sources for an article[edit]

Hi! I'm very glad that you're not getting discouraged learning the ropes here at Wikipedia. I recommend that you want to read the reliable sources page to learn a bit about what's needed as an outside source for an article here. Articles at Wikipedia require reliable sources like a published book, newspaper, magazine, or something like that. While an unpublished letter is a good resource for some things, it's not acceptable for Wikipedia. We rely, here, on published sources. The problem with the Bootstrap article, as I see it, is that it relies pretty much entirely on first-person accounts like unpublished letters. If there's a newspaper article on the publishing house, or if there's a magazine interview with the founders, that would probably be a good place to start.

If you're gathering together the information about Bootstrap on your own, from primary sources (that is, from letters by and conversations with the people at Bootstrap), then that's probably original research, which is disallowed at Wikipedia.

If you're associated with Bootstrap, you will probably also want to read about Wikipedia's conflict of interest guidelines. If you have any further questions, you can ask them and I'll do my best to share my meager store of knowledge. :) LastChanceToBe 02:57, 11 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Bootstrap article[edit]

I'm going through the links on the Bootstrap article, trying to make a version of it that has references (blog entries rarely count as reliable sources, unfortunately) and that only has information that's in those references. The links to blog posts by/about the writers, and to other poems by the writers, aren't really giving me much to go on, and mostly aren't reliable sources. The Ron Silliman links are very important links. The other blogs, I may understand deleting. Silliman's blog, however, is probably the most widely read blog on poetry in North America right now. With those changes, there are still a few excellent reviews (rain taxi, Jacket Magazine, cross cultural poetics, etc.) which are very respectable journals, and I figure would be considered reliable sources. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Arianakrantzite (talk • contribs)

The problem I see with those other blog links is that they don't actually give much information about Bootstrap. I've put together a recommendation at User:LastChanceToBe/Bootstrap Productions. This is a copy of the article, not the article itself, so I didn't change anything in the real article. Please look this over. If the information in the article is correct (in other words, if I haven't introduced any incorrect statements), then I recommend that this should be the article. It still needs a reference for the paragraph that's marked as "citation needed", but that's something I'm sure you can find with some digging. Let me know what you think. Thanks for uploading File:Poeticjournal555.jpg. I noticed that while you provided a valid copyright licensing tag, there is no proof that the creator of the file has agreed to release it under the given license.

If you are the copyright holder for this media entirely yourself but have previously published it elsewhere (especially online), please either

make a note permitting reuse under the CC-BY-SA or another acceptable free license (see this list) at the site of the original publication; or
Send an email from an address associated with the original publication to permissions-en@wikimedia.org, stating your ownership of the material and your intention to publish it under a free license. You can find a sample permission letter here. If you take this step, add {{OTRS pending}} to the file description page to prevent premature deletion.
