Welcome... and about the AfD...[edit]

Arvandor, Comparison_of_the_books:_“A_narrative_of_the_life_of_Frederick_Douglas,_an_American_slave”_and_“Uncle_Tom’s_cabin” is a fairly good essay, but Wikipedia does not publish essays. Wikipedia is an encyclopedia. If some respected literary critic or historian had written a book comparing and contrasting writings about black life in the 1800s, you could write an article about that book. But you can't just write your own opinions about the two books, even if they are well-founded opinions.

"Userfy" means that you can put this essay, or almost anything you want within reason, onto your Wikipedia user page. But it can't go into the main section as an encyclopedia article. By the way, do not try to edit out the tag saying the article is being considered for deletion.

Oh, one other thought. Our article on Jan de Hartog is very short and could use some expansion. Is that something you could help with? I love his books myself and I've been meaning to try to do something with that article for a long time.

Welcome!

Hello, Arvandor, and welcome to Wikipedia! Thank you for your contributions. I hope you like the place and decide to stay. Here are a few good links for newcomers:

You unlinked No One But You (Only The Good Die Young). May I ask why?..as I am under the impression that No One But You (Only The Good Die Young) is the correct title of the song, and not No One But You. While awaiting your answer, I have reverted your edit.SoothingR 06:55, 1 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Image copyright problem with Image:McLeodsdaughters.jpg[edit]

Thanks for uploading Image:McLeodsdaughters.jpg. However, the image may soon be deleted unless we can determine the copyright holder and copyright status. The Wikimedia Foundation is very careful about the images included in Wikipedia because of copyright law (see Wikipedia's Copyright policy).

The copyright holder is usually the creator, the creator's employer, or the last person who was transferred ownership rights. Copyright information on images on Wikipedia is signified using copyright templates. The three basic license types on Wikipedia are open content, public domain, and fair use. Find the appropriate template in Wikipedia:Image copyright tags and place it on the image page like this: {{TemplateName}}.

Please signify the copyright information on any other images you have uploaded or will upload. Remember that images without this important information can be deleted by an administrator. You can get help on image copyright tagging from Wikipedia talk:Image copyright tags. -- Carnildo 14:12, 1 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]
