Wikipedia and copyright[edit]

Control copyright icon Hello Asimo1987, and welcome to Wikipedia. All or some of your addition(s) to Notre Dame of Tacurong College have been removed, as they appear to have added copyrighted material without evidence of permission from the copyright holder. While we appreciate your contributing to Wikipedia, there are certain things you must keep in mind about using information from sources to avoid copyright and plagiarism issues here.

  • You can only copy/translate a small amount of a source, and you must mark what you take as a direct quotation with double quotation marks (") and cite the source using an inline citation. You can read about this at Wikipedia:Non-free content in the sections on "text". See also Help:Referencing for beginners, for how to cite sources here.
  • Aside from limited quotation, you must put all information in your own words and structure, in proper paraphrase. Following the source's words too closely can create copyright problems, so it is not permitted here; see Wikipedia:Close paraphrasing. (There is a college-level introduction to paraphrase, with examples, hosted by the Online Writing Lab of Purdue.) Even when using your own words, you are still, however, asked to cite your sources to verify the information and to demonstrate that the content is not original research.
  • Our primary policy on using copyrighted content is Wikipedia:Copyrights. You may also want to review Wikipedia:Copy-paste.
  • If you own the copyright to the source you want to copy or are a legally designated agent, you may be able to license that text so that we can publish it here. Understand, though, that unlike many other sites, where a person can license their content for use there and retain non-free ownership, that is not possible at Wikipedia. Rather, the release of content must be irrevocable, to the world, into the public domain (PD) or under a suitably-free and compatible copyright license. Such a release must be done in a verifiable manner, so that the authority of the person purporting to release the copyright is evidenced. See Wikipedia:Donating copyrighted materials.
  • In very rare cases (that is, for sources that are PD or compatibly licensed) it may be possible to include greater portions of a source text. However, please seek help at Wikipedia:Media copyright questions, the help desk or the Teahouse before adding such content to the article. 99.9% of sources may not be added in this way, so it is necessary to seek confirmation first. If you do confirm that a source is public domain or compatibly licensed, you will still need to provide full attribution; see Wikipedia:Plagiarism for the steps you need to follow.
  • Also note that Wikipedia articles may not be copied or translated without attribution. If you want to copy or translate from another Wikipedia project or article, you must follow the copyright attribution steps in Wikipedia:Translation#How to translate. See also Wikipedia:Copying within Wikipedia.

It's very important that contributors understand and follow these practices, as policy requires that people who persistently do not must be blocked from editing. If you have any questions about this, you are welcome to leave me a message on my talk page. Thank you. Apparition11 Complaints/Mistakes 13:44, 5 November 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Managing a conflict of interest[edit]

Information icon Hello, Asimo1987. We welcome your contributions, but if you have an external relationship with the people, places, or things you have written about in the article Notre Dame of Tacurong College, you may have a conflict of interest (COI). Editors with a COI may be unduly influenced by their connection to the topic, and it is important when editing Wikipedia articles that such connections be completely transparent. See the conflict of interest guideline and FAQ for organizations for more information. In particular, we ask that you please:

  • avoid editing or creating articles related to you and your family, friends, school, company, club, or organization, as well as any competing companies' projects or products;
  • instead, you are encouraged to propose changes on the Talk pages of affected article(s) (see the {{request edit}} template);
  • when discussing affected articles, disclose your COI (see WP:DISCLOSE);
  • avoid linking to the Wikipedia article or to the website of your organization in other articles (see WP:SPAM);
  • exercise great caution so that you do not violate Wikipedia's content policies.

In addition, you must disclose your employer, client, and affiliation with respect to any contribution which forms all or part of work for which you receive, or expect to receive, compensation (see WP:PAID).

Please take a few moments to read and review Wikipedia's policies regarding conflicts of interest, especially those pertaining to neutral point of view, sourcing and autobiographies.

Also please note that editing for the purpose of advertising, publicising, or promoting anyone or anything is not permitted. Thank you. Winged Blades of GodricOn leave 14:44, 5 November 2017 (UTC)[reply]

November 2017[edit]

Stop icon Please do not remove the {{copyviocore}} template from articles, as you did with Notre Dame of Tacurong College. Your action has been reverted. For legal reasons, we cannot accept non-free text or images borrowed from other websites or printed material; such additions will be deleted, and removing copyright notices will not help your case. You can properly contest the deletion at Wikipedia:Copyright problems. If you are the owner of the material, you may release the material under the Creative Commons and GFDL licenses, as detailed at WP:IOWN. Alternatively, you are welcome to create a draft in your own words at Talk:Notre Dame of Tacurong College/Temp. Wikipedia takes copyright violations very seriously and persistent violators and/or removers of the copyright notice templates may be blocked from editing. Regarding your E-mail: When it comes to copyright issues, Wikipedia cannot take your words for granted that you own the material; you have to provide evidence of the ownership. However, like I said earlier, if you really are the web administrator of the school like you said, and if you do own the content, you may release the material under the Creative Commons and GFDL licenses, as detailed at WP:IOWN. You also asked me whether you can request the page to be deleted entirely. Well yes, if you have a valid rationale, you can do so by following the steps mentioned in WP:HOWTODELETE. But, given that the article has been on Wikipedia since 2009, I suggest you try and improve the article instead. Familiarizing yourself with WP:5P, WP:NOT, and Wikipedia:Writing better articles would be a good starting point. But, more importantly, you should refrain from removing the {{copyvio-revdel}} template until those specific revisions are deleted. Cheers! -- ChamithN (talk) 08:17, 6 November 2017 (UTC)[reply]
There are striking similarities between Notre Dame of Marbel University and this. To me, it looks like another case of potential copyright violation. But it could also be the other way around, that is, the web devs might have copy-pasted the content from Wikipedia itself. Anyway, thanks for pointing it out. I've opened an investigation here. -- ChamithN (talk) 14:13, 6 November 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Even though you are an editor with COI, you can still edit Wikipedia, but it'd be best to follow WP:COIEDIT. -- ChamithN (talk)

Non-free rationale for File:Notre dame of tacurong college.png[edit]

Thanks for uploading or contributing to File:Notre dame of tacurong college.png. I notice the file page specifies that the file is being used under non-free content criteria, but there is not a suitable explanation or rationale as to why each specific use in Wikipedia is acceptable. Please go to the file description page, and edit it to include a non-free rationale.

If you have uploaded other non-free media, consider checking that you have specified the non-free rationale on those pages too. You can find a list of 'file' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "File" from the dropdown box. Note that any non-free media lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described in section F6 of the criteria for speedy deletion. If the file is already gone, you can still make a request for undeletion and ask for a chance to fix the problem. If you have any questions, please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. ShakespeareFan00 (talk) 17:20, 13 June 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Orphaned non-free image File:Notre dame of tacurong college.png[edit]

⚠

Thanks for uploading File:Notre dame of tacurong college.png. The image description page currently specifies that the image is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, the image is currently not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the image was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that images for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

Note that any non-free images not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described in section F5 of the criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. --B-bot (talk) 17:27, 31 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]
