At Talaq Article

Hello, hope you are well. I came across an article on Wickepedia for At Talaq, who won the 1986 Melbourne Cup. I saw that you wrote the article. My question was, I see that in the article At Talaq's Timeform rating was 119. Is this correct? Was this figure (119) his highest Timeform rating in his career? Where did you find the information? I ask as I'd like to find historical Timeform ratings for other past Melbourne Cup winners and finding this information has been difficult. Look forward to hearing from you. Jezabeel (talk) 19:30, 8 July 2020 (UTC)

@Jezabeel: I did not write that article and do not have any information on At Talaq's Timeform ratings. I was just the last person to edit it, to make a minor technical change. It looks like Tigerboy1966 added that information, and I know he's pretty active in writing racehorse articles, so he may be able to help you out if you ask him on his talk page. Mick Ignis name corrected to Morgana Ignis

Hello,

I'm attempting to change the name of actress Morgana Ignis from her previous name Mick Ignis. She has, for a while now, been out as transgender and has transitioned. You can see the correct name reflected on her imdb, which has been stripped of her former name.

Hi I'm Phillip Samuel. It seeems that you reverted my most recent edit from this page

https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=GameStop_short_squeeze&diff=prev&oldid=1003999843

on the basis that it wasn't following NPOV. I was paraphrasing the paragraph from the article. I aim to add it back with albeit a bit more neutral language. Phillip Samuel (talk) 17:57, 31 January 2021 (UTC)

The source for the change is me. I am the current owner of Wappocomo. I purchased it from my cousin Garrettparsons (talk) 04:41, 1 February 2021 (UTC)

@Garrettparsons: Wikipedia does not allow original research. You need to include a reliable source for the information you add to Wikipedia. Also, you should have a look at the conflict of interest policy and avoid editing about any subjects you have a close connection to. Aspening (talk) 04:43, 1 February 2021 (UTC)

regarding lingoace content

hello Aspening,

may i know the reasoning of the deletion? i was on the process of fixing the content.. the content you are deleted is a new content i made. is it still not suitable?

i have also pasted the original content on the talk page of lingoace draft to help see the changes..

thank you

warm regards --Raymonph (talk) 00:29, 2 February 2021 (UTC)

@Raymonph: I tagged the article for speedy deletion because it is written like an advertisement. Aspening (talk) 00:34, 2 February 2021 (UTC)
i see. noted. thank you for the insight. i will fix it then. --Raymonph (talk) 00:47, 2 February 2021 (UTC)
also may i know, from the new content i have made, may i know which part is still looks like and advertisement? Thank you very much for the advice. --Raymonph (talk) 03:36, 2 February 2021 (UTC)
@Raymonph: It all reads like an advertisement to me - I would recommend that someone else rewrite it, especially if you have an affiliation with the article subject. Aspening (talk) 03:50, 2 February 2021 (UTC)

Please do not edit my mothers page back to how it was

Please can you help me? My Mother Molly Parkin was very upset by her wikipedia page which seemed to have got her whole life and career upside down, this woman has had 11 books published, been a magazine and newspaper editor, starred and written for the west end appeared in many films and endless television had her own radio show for 4 years BBC wales....then accused on her wikipedia page of endless affairs which led to the end of her first marriage to my father. This is libellous untrue and incorrect, Ive corrected it.The divorce cited His infidelity She doesn't care that you missed out half of what she has achieved in life. but what was originally put up by you? has affected google so that my father apparently is Frank Parkin???? whos he, and its certain I have no sister. I mean really talk about lack of clarity. Also Molly went to Brighton school of art first and then Goldsmiths. I dont wish to be a wiki editor I just want some thing of truth to go into her obituary when she dies. not too much to ask is it. I know Im not techy and I havent done this right but Ive tried my best with citations. Could you help bringing it to wiki standards. Id also like to put up some better pics if possible? Yours Sincerely

Sophie Parkin — Preceding unsigned comment added by Sophie Parkin (talkcontribs) 19:46, 8 February 2021 (UTC)
@Sophie Parkin: As far as I can see, I've never edited your mother's page. Please have a look at the conflict of interest policy and make an edit request for any changes you'd like to see made to a page where you have a close connection to the article subject. An uninvolved editor will have a look at the page. If you feel that part of the article is libellous, consider filing a report at the biographies of living persons noticeboard. Siobhan Cattigan

Hi Thanks for your message. Is there any way to change the title of the Siobhan Cattigan page? Sorry, I'm new to all this. Thanks — Preceding unsigned comment added by Southseasiren (talkcontribs)

@Southseasiren: I've taken care of the title change for the Siobhan Cattigan article. In the future, you can change the title of a page when moving it into mainspace by typing the new title in the second box that shows up on the Move page. You should select the Article namespace and then type in whatever you want to name the article in the box next to that drop-down. Aspening (talk) 15:03, 7 May 2021 (UTC)

Untitled comment from user Finding Muzyamba

This page is not unambiguously promotional, because... (Hi. I respect and agree with the talk page guidelines. I am of the understanding that the text I contributed is perceived as promotional but it's rather a socio-cultural informal text, which can be legally proven with references in accordance with Norwegian law of public fraud .This texts purpose is within no means and interest of recognition but rather content of an educational nature. I will edit out anything you deem inappropriate , and make sure the text corresponds fully with your criteria and guidelines Finding Muzyamba (talk) 08:11, 19 May 2021 (UTC)

@Finding Muzyamba: Looks like the page in question was deleted. If you have concerns about this, please take them up with the deleting admin. Aspening (talk) 14:21, 19 May 2021 (UTC)

Why would you nominate my page for "speedy deletion" when it's a draft and hasn't even been submitted for review yet?

How silly is that? It causes no harm while in draft mode. I'm a professional writer in the crypto space, and this needs work and independent sources but is a working initial draft. Absolutely no reason to delete it in this mode. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Brad Gagnon (talkcontribs)

@Brad Gagnon: Just because something is in draftspace doesn't mean that it can't be speedy deleted. In my opinion, the draft would have needed to have been fundamentally rewritten to become neutral and encyclopedic, so I nominated it for speedy deletion. Please have a look at Wikipedia's page on spam and information on speedy deletion for advertising. Since you said you're a professional writer, also read Wikipedia's policy on disclosing paid editing - you must specifically say you were paid on your userpage if that is the case. Aspening (talk) 20:03, 26 May 2021 (UTC)
@Aspening: But again, WHY? a draft is a draft and causes no harm. It could be filled with nothing but X's and fill-in-the-blanks. Just because you CAN delete it doesn't mean you should. It's something I was modelling just to get something initially down. I also identified the COI on my page. What's the point in deleting an entire page when it's just a draft? Such an inane practice. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Brad Gagnon (talkcontribs)
@Brad Gagnon: Feel free to contest the speedy deletion, but I have seen hundreds of similar drafts deleted by sysops. Even if the page were not deleted, it would likely be rejected at AfC for promotional tone. If you wish to contribute about a company that has paid you to edit Wikipedia for them, try using Requested Articles or making an edit request if the change you would like to see is to an existing article - you are a lot more likely to get a resulting edit or article that complies with Wikipedia policies regarding neutral point of view and advertising. Aspening (talk) 20:20, 26 May 2021 (UTC)

Why would you nominate my sandbox draft article for speedy deletion?

Dude, really? It's a sandbox article on a unicorn fintech startup, have you even looked it up? Plus, your "reasons" are completely unfounded. ZealousBlaze (talk) 01:53, 30 May 2021 (UTC)

@ZealousBlaze: I nominated the draft for deletion because as it stands, it's overly promotional and given the usage of external links seems to be focused on getting publicity for the company and/or its founders. Feel free to contest, but I have seen lots of similar articles deleted by sysops. Also, notability has nothing to do with whether or not something can be deleted under criterion G11 (advertising). Aspening (talk) 01:59, 30 May 2021 (UTC)

Tagging pages for speedy deletion

Hello, Aspening,

First, thank you for your work on Wikipedia. But I wanted to caution you to be careful when tagging user pages for speedy deletion. Editors have some leeway in what content they put on their user pages. If you check the user page of some longtime Wikipedia editors, you'll find a lot of personal information on their main user page including their name, schools they went to, where they work, their favorite teams, their editing philosophy, lots of biographical information. That is not considered "promotional" unless they are trying to sell themselves or their services. Also, editors are allowed to experiment on their user sandboxes which should not be scrutinized the same as an article in Draft space. User sandboxes should be for experimentation and developing articles but should not be judged the same as a page in the main space or draft space.

I think the key word in the CSD criteria is "UNAMBIGUOUS promotion or advertising"...if there is any doubt that the editor is trying to sell a person, organization, event or product, you should refrain from tagging it for deletion unless there are serious problems like violations of BLP policy or copyright violations. The first thing that many new editors do is share information about themselves and you don't want to bite new editors when they are just starting to learn about Wikipedia. Thank you. Liz Read! Talk! 03:07, 30 May 2021 (UTC)

Perhaps we have differing views on what constitutes advertising, or I mis-tagged a few things Aspening (talk) 03:14, 30 May 2021 (UTC)

New message from Serial Number 54129

Hello, Aspening. You have new messages at Square Mile Stroller's talk page.
Message added 14:13, 31 May 2021 (UTC). You can remove this notice at any time by removing the {{Talkback}} or {{Tb}} template.

——Serial 14:13, 31 May 2021 (UTC)

Got it.

Understood. My apologies. I am relatively knew to editing on Wiki. I have reached out for guidance and taken the necessary steps to better learn the system. I have edited this particular article before. Can you help me understand the issue? — Preceding unsigned comment added by Dfwkingsmanship (talkcontribs)

@Dfwkingsmanship: Before removing a maintenance tag, have a look at what the tag says and make edits to resolve the issue accordingly. In this case, the issue in the maintenance tag is that it was edited for undisclosed payments. If you look in the page history, you can see that the article was created by an undisclosed paid editor. This person was blocked for using multiple accounts to create articles, which they apparently had been paid to write. This is problematic because paid editing must be disclosed per Wikipedia's terms of use and because these articles usually are promotional in some way.
In order to remove the tag, the article needs to be reworked to be more neutral. Have a look at Wikipedia's neutral point of view policy - some common issues surrounding neutral point of view are placing undue weight on certain positive and/or negative aspects of the subject, writing that is styled like an advertisement, and excessively citing sources that are affiliated with the subject in some way. Aspening (talk) 22:40, 1 June 2021 (UTC)

About Draft:Manuel García Gargallo (spanish historian and writer)

Good morning Aspening, thanks for the help. I understand the precautions but I am not the protagonist of the text, which already has an entry in Wikidata and three wikipedias: Spanish, Catalan and Aragonese. How can I prove that I am not the protagonist of the entry? Thanks and regards.SVC74 (talk) 18:50, 1 June 2021 (UTC)

@SVC74: Looks like the autobiography warning was a mistake on my part - sorry about that! However, the article is a bit promotional in tone and so if it were submitted to AfC for a move into mainspace it may not pass muster. I would recommend having a look at Wikipedia's policy on neutral point of view and reading featured article or good article-level biographies of other modern-day writers to learn more about expected formatting and tone. Examples of biographies of living writers with this status are J. K. Rowling and William Gibson. Aspening (talk) 18:58, 1 June 2021 (UTC)
Thank you very much, Aspening. I'll try to adapt it to wikipedia policy. Best regards.SVC74 (talk) 19:26, 2 June 2021 (UTC)

Hi, where can I explain that work isn't wrong? I think the text is enough objective now. Please I wish that it is not erased before supervising it. Regards, --SVC74 (talk) 18:51, 31 July 2021 (UTC)

ArbCom 2021 Elections voter message

Hello! Voting in the 2021 Arbitration Committee elections is now open until 23:59 (UTC) on Monday, 6 December 2021. All eligible users are allowed to vote. Users with alternate accounts may only vote once.

The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to impose binding solutions to disputes between editors, primarily for serious conduct disputes the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the authority to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail.

If you wish to participate in the 2021 election, please review the candidates and submit your choices on the voting page. If you no longer wish to receive these messages, you may add {{NoACEMM}} to your user talk page. MediaWiki message delivery (talk) 00:50, 23 November 2021 (UTC)
