File permission problem with File:Palestinianflag.jpeg[edit]

Thanks for uploading File:Palestinianflag.jpeg. I noticed that while you provided a valid copyright licensing tag, there is no proof that the creator of the file agreed to license it under the given license.

If you created this media entirely yourself but have previously published it elsewhere (especially online), please either

  • make a note permitting reuse under the CC-BY-SA or another acceptable free license (see this list) at the site of the original publication; or
  • Send an email from an address associated with the original publication to permissions-en@wikimedia.org, stating your ownership of the material and your intention to publish it under a free license. You can find a sample permission letter here. If you take this step, add {{OTRS pending}} to the file description page to prevent premature deletion.

If you did not create it entirely yourself, please ask the person who created the file to take one of the two steps listed above, or if the owner of the file has already given their permission to you via email, please forward that email to permissions-en@wikimedia.org.

If you believe the media meets the criteria at Wikipedia:Non-free content, use a tag such as {{non-free fair use in|article name}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:File copyright tags#Fair use, and add a rationale justifying the file's use on the article or articles where it is included. See Wikipedia:File copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.

If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have provided evidence that their copyright owners have agreed to license their works under the tags you supplied, too. You can find a list of files you have created in your upload log. Files lacking evidence of permission may be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. You may wish to read the Wikipedia's image use policy. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Fut.Perf. 22:15, 31 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]

A tag has been placed on File:Palestinianflag.jpeg requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section F9 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the image appears to be a blatant copyright infringement. For legal reasons, we cannot accept copyrighted images or text borrowed from other web sites or printed material, and as a consequence, your addition will most likely be deleted.

If you think that this notice was placed here in error, contest the deletion by clicking on the button labelled "Click here to contest this speedy deletion," which appears inside of the speedy deletion ({{db-...}}) tag (if no such tag exists, the page is no longer a speedy delete candidate). Doing so will take you to the talk page where you will find a pre-formatted place for you to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. You can also visit the the page's talk page directly to give your reasons, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the page meets the criterion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the page that would render it more in conformance with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. File:Jamalflag.jpg[edit]

Hello, in response to your e-mail: I see that you have re-uploaded File:Jamalflag.jpg. First of all, I apologize for deleting the prior upload as an "obvious copyright violation" – I now notice that the file found at a AFP source was in fact a slightly different shot. However, if the present image was created by the photographer you named in your mail, you can't license it as your "own work". We'll have to insist that you please forward the photographer's permission e-mail to our "permissions-en (at) wikimedia.org". The crucial thing is that we need to verify that the photographer has in fact given a license for anybody to use the image for any purpose. If he just said we can use it "on Wikipedia", that will unfortunately not be enough. Fut.Perf. 14:56, 3 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you so much for the explanation! Actually I have just written to "permission-en-at-wikimedia.org" to forward the email the material author of the picture, Alessandro Pizzi, sent to me with attached the photo I have published. I have chosen the "own work" description because it seemed to be the closest to the real situation among the listed! I did't mean to bore the kind photographer asking him to write an explicit declaration, and of course in his mail, written in italian, the sentence about the licence is obviously not present. What should I do? Can you read the mail I have sent to wikimedia or should I forward it to you somehow? Thank yuo again. Daniela Aster dani (talk) 15:15, 3 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]
The e-mail you sent will be read by one of the volunteers at the WP:OTRS e-mail queue. I'm not among the persons who has access to it, but you are welcome to forward it to me too, if you want my opinion. Unfortunately, if it's the way you describe, we might in fact have a problem. We really need to make sure the photographer really meant to give away his work not just to us but to everybody, and if he didn't say so explicitly, there might be no other solution than to nag him with another mail and ask for that confirmation. Hello FuturePerfect, I have received the answer from the permission service and, as you guessed, they need an explicit declaration about licence; in the meanwhile I had already asked for it the author but of course I am still waiting for the answer... Thank you again for your kind help, Daniela from Rome, Italy 93.41.206.110 (talk) 17:54, 4 June 2011 (UTC) Hello FuturePerfect, I have received the answer from the permission service and, as you guessed, they need an explicit declaration about licence; in the meanwhile I had already asked for it the author but of course I am still waiting for the answer... February 2013[edit]

Hello, I'm Makecat. I wanted to let you know that I undid one of your recent contributions, such as the one you made to Jamal Taslaq, because it didn’t appear constructive to me. If you think I made a mistake, or if you have any questions, you can leave me a message on my talk page. Thanks, Makecat 13:31, 13 February 2013 (UTC)[reply]
