Well done[edit]

Thanks for your not in my talk page. I want to believe our past arguments will remain in the past forever, and we contribute in the articles together, with neutral facts. I looked at what you did. Great work, Asterion. Unfortunately I will be busy the next 3 weeks, completing my thesis, and won't be able to contribute much, but I will gladly help after that period. Best regards, Ilir pz 22:36, 2 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Want to apologize for my past arrogant behaviour. Hope we can work out things better in the future. Best, Ilir pz 23:15, 2 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

There is no need to. We all, me the first, make mistakes. Best wishes, --Asterion talk to me 23:19, 2 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Your impressions about me are completely wrong. I had to answer you, even though once I thought of ignoring your accusations. I do not know where you got all this?! Check my user page. And yes, I proved you wrong in all your accusations. ilir_pz 10:46, 31 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]
No accusations whatsoever, your comments gave the wrong impression (i.e. being happy with page staying protected). I replied to the rest on your talk page. E Asterion u talking to me? 12:13, 31 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Why don't you actually ask about what I meant by my comments, instead of speculating what I might have thought, and wasting energy on sending accusation-like comments? Could be better, don't you think? I will reply to the rest in my talk page. ilir_pz 12:35, 31 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Template:Kosovo-stub[edit]

It hase no sence This Kosovo article is a stub. You can help Wikipedia by expanding it. and Categories: Serbia stubs | Cities, towns and villages in Kosovo--Ejte 14:26, 3 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Hello. I don't quite understand your comment on Hipi insisting on revivng {{Kosovo-stub}}, because it was you who re-created the template. It was discussed at WP:WSS/P in November (with the outcome not to create), then deleted at WP:SFD in December. I think it should be speedily deleted as {{db-repost}}. If you really think the temlpate should exist, let's go and discuss it with others. The issues to resolve include whether there are enough stubs, the wording of the template, the category to be used and whether the category (if a new one is created) should be in Category:Serbia stubs. Conscious 07:58, 5 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Please note I stopped using the template once I became aware it had been voted for deletion before. I have added the following {{db|I created this stub being unaware it was previously [[WP:SFD|voted for deletion]]. Please delete and protect against re-creation}}. Regards, --Asterion talk to me 14:04, 6 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you, it looks like the template has been deleted. Conscious 11:36, 9 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Municipalities in Seville/Sevilla[edit]

Hi Asterion. in setting up that category, I was following the name currently applied to the article on the province itself, which is Sevilla (province). Perhaps it should be changed to Seville, but it would then make sense to do so for the province article (and related articles) as well. What do you think? Curiously, the article on the city is at Seville. .--cjllw | TALK 23:29, 4 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Aha! Yes, indeed! It sould be moved to Seville (province) and fix anu\y double redirect. Thanks again, --Asterion talk to me 23:34, 4 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Kosovo[edit]

That's OK. I was confused by the whole thing myself. That's the first time I ever speedied a stub type. It would seem to me to be a useful stub type too, but what do I know... CanadianCaesar Et tu, Brute? 14:15, 6 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I agree. The problem is that it leads to edit wars, instead people expanding the articles instead... Cheers, --Asterion talk to me 14:17, 6 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Almedina[edit]

Hi Asterion. I went and looked through this little book I have, "Bosniak names and their meanings", published in Sarajevo in 1972. It listed Almedina as a variation of Elmedina and said it was of an Arabic root. It was defined as "A city woman, cultured woman. Dedicated to her faith." The name Almedina isn't as popular as Elmedina, which is definitely not an uncommon name. However, these days Almedina is more popular among younger generations (at least thats the impression I have). Live Forever 22:06, 6 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I'll try[edit]

I'll try to cool down a bit, got carried away there. C-c-c-c 19:54, 12 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

The word "pada" means falling, so the el condor is "falling". It's talking about the US Stealth Fighter (nicknamed El Condor) that got shot down during the war.

P.S. What does "El condor pasa" mean out of curiosity? As your familar with Spanish and I, unfortunately am not. Thanks C-c-c-c

What I forgot to mention was, was that pada is the conjugated Serbian word of padati, meaning to fall. Mhm interesting about the languange, I remember my German teacher, (who is also a Spanish teacher) mentioning how one student translated an English sentence word for word in Spanish (can't remember which), and that when she read it in Spanish it meant: "giving birth to something", but the student was going for something completely different. Any ideas? C-c-c-c 20:57, 12 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]
"Estoy embarazada" (--> I'm pregnant) while trying to say I'm embarrassed (Estoy avergonzada). Yes, quite funny! Now that you told me about Padati, it sounds as if they deliberately chose that title indeed! --Asterion talk to me 21:05, 12 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Yes, that's the pun:P. That's why it was chosen, why it's so liked, and why it was so significant. Haha, good thing I only do word for word translations occasionaly in French :P. C-c-c-c

Everything is OK now. I used different words and he understood what I meant but he kind of p****d me off a bit leaving the same warning again and again. But deep inside he thought he had valid reasons to do so, which is the sad part. He has realised that the language gap is too great to overcome. Do you mean this warning : Deleting posts at Kosovo talk pages is considered to be vandalism and may led to you being banned from editing Wikipedia. Yeah he's always blatantly trying to copy something. Have you looked at User: Ejte, they both seem have to similiar writing styles in two languages (English and German), which can be seen in my talk page. The Civility Barnstar which our member's have designed has been sent to Barnstar and award proposals. We'd appreciate your feedback!

Also, we are planning to make a Community Justice barnstar to give to hard-working CJ members. If you're a budding designer, consider trying to make it, then post your proposal to WT:CJ!

You asked me about Neum. I do not think that Neum should be considered part of Dalmatia. Unlike the Gulf of Kotor, Neum even was not part of historical Dalmatia (as were its borders in Habsburg Monarchy or in the Republic of Venetia). On the contrary, the ancient Roman Dalmatia included most of Bosnia, entire Montenegro, as well as parts of Serbia and Albania. Asterion...[edit]

Hello. I have a feeling that Ilir will respond to this message because he is stalking me. Are there rules against that? Whenever I make a change that might not agree with his POV, he suddenly appears on that page, protesting my change and reverting it. I also have a lot of inside information, about his motives, his intentions and what he is actually doing with Wikipedia. I can bring him down, but I can't do it alone. I'm just asking you to show me where I can make my case, his sockpuppets, his reverting, his constant pushing of POV has harmed Wikipedia enough. I just need to know where I can have my voice heard. Please, don't respond over Wikipedia, e-mail me at bormalagurski@hotmail.com. --serbiana - talk 02:04, 21 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Boris, do not get me wrong. I have no intention whatsoever to bring anyone down or else. There is a set of rules for everyone to abide. You need to cool down. This is really no way to have your voice heard, as you say. On the other hand, I have explained Ilir about wiki-stalking and he understands it now. Regards, Asterion talk to me 11:26, 21 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]
He does not understand it, and he continues to do it. And it's not just wikistalking, he's doing all sorts of stuff he shouldn't be doing on Wikipedia, but I don't want to waste my proof on talk pages, I want to know where I can make my case. Thats all. -- serbiana - talk 20:42, 22 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

VandalProof 1.2 Now Available[edit]

After a lenghty, but much-needed Wikibreak, I'm happy to announce that version 1.2 of VandalProof is now available for download! Beyond fixing some of the most obnoxious bugs, like the persistent crash on start-up that many have experienced, version 1.2 also offers a wide variety of new features, including a stub-sorter, a global user whitelist and blacklist, navigational controls, and greater customization. You can find a full list of the new features here. While I believe this release to be a significant improvement over the last, it's nonetheless nowhere near the end of the line for VandalProof. Thanks to Rob Church, I now have an account on test.wikipedia.org with SysOp rights and have already been hard at work incorporating administrative tools into VandalProof, which I plan to make available in the near future. An example of one such SysOp tool that I'm working on incorporating is my simple history merge tool, which simplifies the process of performing history merges from one article into another. Anyway, if you haven't already, I'd encourage you to download and install version 1.2 and take it out for a test-drive. As always, your suggestions for improvement are always appreciated, and I hope that you will find this new version useful. Happy editing! --AmiDaniel (talk) 02:06, 21 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Mystery shopping[edit]

I can understand how you'd want people to be aware that they can obtain the necessary information for free... however I believe the paragraph below (which remains in the article) should suffice to inform readers of free-equivalents:

"schemes have emerged in the past several years attempting to lure unsuspecting consumers into paying money in order to learn how to become a mystery shopper. However, all the information necessary to become a mystery shopper is widely available on the Internet."

The link to the open directory should also provide ample suggestion to the reader to look for free info. Cheers --AbsolutDan (talk) 15:58, 21 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Kosovo[edit]

Well, I understand what you mean in the case of Kosovo article. That is also a reason why I did not worked more with that article (it is futile because most of the "good faith" edits are vandalized and are a subject to revert war). Things will change of course when the future statuses of Kosovo and Montenegro are solved and then we will have decent articles about Kosovo. Some people think that Wikipedia is a good place for political propaganda and once they had no political goal any more that they want to achieve with their edits, they will not do it. It is simple logic. :) PANONIAN (talk) 22:54, 21 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Re:WesternSahara-stub[edit]

sounds like a reasonable idea. I've no objection to using the map as long as it doesn't start the in-fighting again. Feel free to suggest it on the talk page - we'll see how it goes from there. Grutness...wha? 02:30, 25 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Dying Gladitor, Brigg[edit]

Nice set of images on the Brigg page, but the pub is called the Dying Gladiator and not the Resting Gladiator :) I've changed the caption on the image, but I'm not sure of the protocol of renaming images as you can't move them to a different title like pages. Bedders 06:57, 22 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Aha! Thanks for the correction. There is no way to move images. I need to reupload it and then list the old one for deletion. I will take care of this later on. Regards, Asterion talk to me 15:30, 22 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Removing notices on admin noticeboards[edit]

Actually, I was in the same boat as you, except I was arguing against an admin saying that it was fine for regular users to remove notices, specifically, he said: but non-admins may deal with any 'administrative' task except those requiring administrative tools. Admins are not anything particularly special, they just have some extra buttons. In fact they pointed me to this discussion where the consensus was that non-admins may do any administrative work. So you have to understand my confusion. On one hand I have an admin defending a user for removing notices, and on the other I have you saying not to do it. Paul Cyr 03:53, 23 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

OK, I understand that. It frustrating really though, because I am dealing with a user who I am 90% sure is using socks to continue attacks against me and an admin who IMO (and numerous others) does not handle situations anywhere near proper, and has allowed the situation with the previously mentioned user to escalate way too far, because of what I believe is his personal feelings towards me. It's a very messy situation, if you wanna read more about it and voice your opinion (you seem level-headed) then it's actually at AN/I: WP:AN/I#Inappropirate conduct by admin InShaneee. Needless to say, my day on Wikipedia has tested my patience. Paul Cyr 04:03, 23 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Burts, I'm glad you liked the pics. I've got many more. I'll open an account later on. If you don't want to wait, you can re-upload them yourself as long as these are properly credited and the same license terms used. Best regards, Asterion talk to me 19:08, 24 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Welcome to Esperanza![edit]

Welcome, Asterion, to Esperanza, the Wikipedia member association! As you might know, all the Esperanzians share one important goal: the success of this encyclopedia. Within that, we then attempt to strengthen the community bonds, and be the "approachable" side of the project. All of our ideals are held in the Charter, the governing document of the association.

Now that you are a member, you might be interested in some of our programs. A quite important program is the StressUnit, which seeks to support editors who have encountered any stress from their Wikipedia events, and are seeking to leave the project. So far, Esperanza can be credited with the support and retention of several users. We have a calendar of special events, member birthdays, and other holidays that you can add to and follow.

In addition to these projects, several more missions of Esperanza are in development, and are currently being created at Esperanza/Possibles.

I encourage you to take an active voice in the running of Esperanza. We have a small government system, headed by our Administrator general, Celestianpower, and guided by the Advisory Committee, Titoxd, JoanneB, and Freakofnurture.

If you have any other questions, concerns, comments, or general ideas, Esperanzian or otherwise, know that you can always contact Celestianpower by email or talk page, or the Esperanza talk page. Alternatively, you could communicate with fellow users on our IRC channel, #wikipedia-esperanza (which is also good for a fun chat or two :). If you're new to IRC, please see the IRC Tutorial, which was written by one of our members. I thank you for joining Esperanza, and look forward to working with you in making Wikipedia a better place to be!

Re: Borovo Selo killings - ChrisO reboot issue[edit]

Yeah, well, now you see what I had to deal with before, and actually on a vast number of Croatia related articles. Literaly dozens of throwaway sockpuppets, swarming like there's no tommorow? What can we do? Nothing it seems. It's one of the reasons why I'm starting to lose my faith in Wikipedia unfortunately :( --Dr.Gonzo 23:10, 24 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

You're welcome to try but I expect nothing but petty bickering from this one. BTW, I did find ChrisO version at least a little to clinical, downplaying the huge Serbian role in the breakup, but I chose to shut up and support that version. But there's just no pleasing some people, is there? --Dr.Gonzo 23:18, 24 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Personal attacks[edit]

Hey it's me again. I noticed your userbox condemning all personal attacks. Given our previous interactions, would you be able to direct me to an admin who deals with personal attacks. WP:PAIN is in a major backlog, and I have a user who has now resorted to sockpuppets in order to attack me. Paul Cyr 18:26, 25 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

If this is quite urgent (I mean constant vandalism and personal attacks on your page), try the Wikipedia:Administrator_intervention_against_vandalism noticeboard (there is always someone watching it). For direct response, try User:William_M._Connolley, User:Dijxtra or even User:ChrisO. If this is a complex issue, involving sockpuppets, list it at Wikipedia:Requests for CheckUser and leave a note explaining the case further on User Talk :Essjay. For more complex issues, try Wikipedia:Requests_for_investigation and write a short note (maybe better than jumping onto the CheckUser process directly, I would say). Hope this helps! What?[edit]

That's, I think, a very, very stupid thing. The fact that I (who always follows the news) didn't hear about it states so. No one cares what the radicals think anymore. What they propose is entirely irrelevant - and is essentially not a separatist movement. I will correct that. Also, this "Ulcinj" thingy's very weird. --HolyRomanEmperor 20:00, 25 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

That's ok[edit]

That's ok for the misunderstanding. We are all people. --GeorgeMoney T·C 01:21, 27 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Hmm...[edit]

I'll tell you what - please request a checkuser for me and you so that we can officially prove it. --HolyRomanEmperor 14:10, 27 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I will discuss this with User: Essjay (he's the most active admin on the checkuser page). But considering you have over 6000 edits and me around 3000, I think the numbers speak for themselves. Nonetheless, you have the right to request a checkuser to clear your name but given that User:Hipi Zhdripi is the only person insisting on this rubbish, I think that, if anything, he should be warned and possibly blocked for this amongst many other things (he seems to be completely unapologetic about his behaviour, including his previously proven sockpuppetry). Thanks, E Asterion u talking to me? 14:39, 27 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Spanish Inquisition[edit]

Not sure if you followed the talk page discussions or edit history over the month of May but a single Anon user re-wrote most of the article to its current state which is, as you say, utter junk. In response another user has been slowly translating the Spanish Wikipedia version of this article, which is a Featured Article, and a few sections are in place. If you want to help with the translation any help would be appreciated. The anon user seems to have gone away for now, gave up in the face of resistence, but there are some other edits who think his material is "better than nothing" so its been hard to get rid of without something better. -- Stbalbach 14:56, 27 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Yes, I could help. I will have a go at it tomorrow. Thanks, E Asterion u talking to me? 15:00, 27 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Re:Kosovo mess[edit]

Hola!I thought that i had reached an agreement with two users (a Serbian and an Albanian) who had been edit-warring for long... Unfortunately, when a new day begins, bad habbits cannot be forgotten... Although i hate to give up, i have to... Anyways, happy editting in articles were u are needed! Regards:) --Hectorian 02:34, 28 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I asked hipi to slow down, as requested. try to not provoke reactions from him, and maybe a different approach. There should be a cause after every effect :) (being scientific here now, sorry). ilir_pz 16:56, 28 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Provoking him? How? By removing his insults and personal attacks and asking him to behave in a civil way towards HRE? I do not want to have anything to do with HZ. He will not last long in wikipedia behaving like that, I am afraid. E Asterion u talking to me? 17:39, 28 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]
It would be wiki-stalking for me to follow your discussion (a bit ironic, again sorry). I asked him to be patient, and the same I ask you to do the same. I still think that taking a more moderate approach might change his behavior. Try it, might work. Not sure he is going that far to be banned from Wikipedia for good. He should really pose threat to Wikipedians to be banned like that, but as I said I am not following the problems between you(and HRE) and Hipi. Will try to help if I can.ilir_pz 18:37, 28 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]
As I said, I am no longer active on "his" articles, as he likes to remind people. I simply limited myself to remove his personal attacks in his userpage. I replied to him in a civilised manner, as expected from me, assuming good faith and he decided to ignore my comments (deleting them), and then proceeded to accuse me of being HRE's sockpuppet (sic) on your talk page. I am very tired of his games. He is being very disruptive. We are showing more patience with him than he clearly deserves: User:Gibraltarian got permanently blocked for much less than that, why should a separate Balkan standard be used is the question to ask. It is all in his hands. E Asterion u talking to me? 18:48, 28 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]
I do not think any double-standards should exist in Wikipedia. Though one can feel that sometimes. I noticed that some people are not being blocked, even if they offend administrators directly. I am sure you know who I am talking about. But yeah, try to stay cool and those who bother you leave you alone at one point. I will try to tell him to stop provoking. He might have suspicions about sockpuppets, like we all do, and I guess your attempt to prove it using a check-user was a good idea. Try to make it work, so Hipi is convinced finally. ilir_pz 19:03, 28 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]
I have been following your steps with Kosovo Asterion out of curiosity and I have to say, good job. You have kept a level head. Btw, I am spanish too :) well half but im still proud of it. Keep it up, peace is never an easy thing, but always worth it. - —Preceding unsigned comment added by 64.106.131.10 (talkcontribs) american onlooker

My edits to your usertalk page[edit]

Why did you revert my edits? I was fixing the bleeding of the CJ newsletter. --GeorgeMoney T·C 17:51, 28 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Oh oh. Sorry I did not realise. It seems to be the old "diff edits" bug again. . I was replying to the last edit by Ilir pz (I saw your edit and then clicked on older edit to check his). I have documented the problem before:
  1. Go to your watchlist
  2. Select Diff for the most recent entry of a page (i.e. my talk page)
  3. Now hover your mouse over "edit this page". You can see that instead being, let's say http://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=User_talk:Asterion&action=edit, it shows something like http://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=User_talk:Asterion&action=edit&oldid=55591294, even if when you click on "edit" that is at that particular moment the most recent version.
  4. If you edit it and someone has added something afterwards using http://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=User_talk:Asterion&action=edit, you will overwrite their edits, as wikipedia assumes you know you are editing an out of date version (you only really get the warning the first time you click on an old version, but not if at the time it was the most recent one)
  5. Well, the moral of the story is to ensure I always edit using the link to "edit this page" from the article namespace not from the history/diffs window.

I will restore the closing brackets (I actually tried to sort this leaking myself a while ago but ended with the green edge). Thanks,E Asterion u talking to me? 18:02, 28 May 2006 (UTC) PS: The "hmmm" edit summary was not addressed to you[reply]

That always happens to me, so when I want to edit a page (the current version) while looking at a diff, I click the tab that says "page", or I click the link that says "current version" and then I click "edit". Another thing I do is edit a section of the page, and it edits the current version. --GeorgeMoney T·C 18:20, 28 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]
That sounds sensible. I will try that next time. I have told a few people about the "bug" but no one seems to be interested. My point is that it can cause quite a lot of hassle in pages that get updated really often (i.e. RfA or VfD). Cheers, E Asterion u talking to me? 18:25, 28 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Gibraltarian[edit]

  • sigh* I'm keeping my eye on him. Have you ever seen the amazing list of IPs he's used? Here is the list. He's like a fungus. ;-) --Woohookitty(meow) 23:18, 30 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]
