Image Copyright problem

Thank you for uploading Image:Rdl-headshot.jpg. However, it currently is missing information on its copyright status. Wikipedia takes copyright very seriously. It may be deleted soon, unless we can determine the license and the source of the image. If you know this information, then you can add a copyright tag to the image description page.

If you have any questions, please feel free to ask them at the media copyright questions page. Thanks again for your cooperation. NOTE: once you correct this, please remove the tag from the image's page. STBotI (talk) 12:48, 22 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

AfD nomination of Russell Longcore[edit]

An editor has nominated Russell Longcore, an article on which you have worked or that you created, for deletion. We appreciate your contributions, but the nominator doesn't believe that the article satisfies Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion and has explained why in his/her nomination (see also "What Wikipedia is not").

Your opinions on whether the article meets inclusion criteria and what should be done with the article are welcome; please participate in the discussion by adding your comments at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Russell Longcore and please be sure to sign your comments with four tildes (~~~~).

You may also edit the article during the discussion to improve it but should not remove the articles for deletion template from the top of the article; such removal will not end the deletion debate. Thank you. BJBot (talk) 14:59, 14 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Deletion of Russell Longcore article[edit]

Thanks for your message on my user talk page, which reached me. That is the place to communicate with other Wikipedia users, including administrators. I have replied here, and we can continue to converse here in this section of your user talk page.

Regarding the article about you, the very first thing to understand is that it is not a good idea to write at article about yourself. (Please take a look at Wikipedia:Autobiography.) You should also not write about your company, your book, or people whom you work with or are close to, because there is a conflict of interest. (Please take a look at Wikipedia:Conflict of Interest.)

Next, please read Wikipedia:Notability (people), which explains our guidelines for biographical articles, and the requirement for significant coverage of the subject in published secondary source material which is reliable, intellectually independent, and independent of the subject.

Deleting the article was not my personal decision, but was the result of a discussion at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Russell Longcore. It is significant that no one other than you posted a comment there in favor of retaining the article. While you may seek a review of that decision by following the procedure described at Wikipedia:Deletion review, I would say that realistically there is very little likelihood of the deletion being overturned, and would therefore recommend against it. --MCB (talk) 04:18, 10 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I, too, thank you for your message on my talk page. I'm afraid I don't really have anything to add to MCB's comments other than to say that I am not the user responsible for the deletion, rather I nominated the article for deletion. As I wrote during the debate, I do hope you stay and contribute to other articles. Victoriagirl (talk) 12:43, 10 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

(responding to your message from the User:65.12.169.113 account): Again, please undersand that deletion of your article was not a personal whim on my part or Victoriagirl's. We interpret and enforce policies that reflect a consensus of the editors of Wikipedia. The important policy involved here is that Wikipedia only includes articles regarding notable persons and books, that is, where there is significant third-party published coverage and discussion of you or your work in major, reliable, intellectually-independent publications. This is not a comment on the quality of your work. It's not the case that you "don't have a say in the matter" -- as you have posted several times on the matter -- but your personal opinion of the suitability the article is not the deciding one. The fact that you wrote the article is less important that its contents. An article written by your publisher is very likely to be deleted as quickly as the first one, based on the notability issue and the fact that your publisher, like yourself, has a signficant conflict of interest in the matter as well. --MCB (talk) 01:48, 14 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Concerning your most recent post on my talk page, I write, with respect, that the statements like "you editors can do whatever you choose to do" and "you won't allow me to revise the original article" are not only incorrect, but indicate a misunderstanding of Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. I encourage you to investigate further. Again, I recommend you read the conflict of interest guidelines; policies concerning ownership of articles and the assumption of good faith may also be of use.
