Leanne Vogel's wiki article[edit]

Hello, I am not sure why you chose to mark the article I tried to create for deletion. Please help. Leanne has been very helpful to hundreds of people who have allergies/food sensitivities and are celiac (cannot eat gluten). I was in the process of adding similar blogs. Can you help me with this? welcoming[edit]

Hi Sean. I wanted to drop you a note and politely request that you don't place welcome templates on user talk pages of users who haven't edited yet. I know you have good intentions, but a discussion a while ago suggested that we should only welcome users once they have made an edit since many people create accounts and then never sign into them again. Obviously nothing bad will come about if you keep doing it. Cheers. Syrthiss (talk) 17:31, 11 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Racket (expert needed?)[edit]

Hi there. I saw that you added the expert needed template to the Racket features article. I've been contributing to this and the main Racket article, so I was just curious why you added the template. Could you add something to the discussion page to explain why? Thanks. --Takikawa (talk) 01:48, 16 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for replying. First of all, the examples on the Racket features page are mostly from the homepage of the programming language. i.e. they were written by experts in the language. They have been run and tested with the release software. The scope of the page is similar to the Haskell features page. Or do you mean that branch articles about a single language are not allowed by the Computing WikiProject? Also, I noticed that you added an NPOV template on my talk page. Was this on accident? As far as I can tell, I don't have any NPOV edits. Cheers. --Takikawa (talk) 02:45, 16 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Some notes on Template:Wikify[edit]

Hi, I'm from WikiProject Wikify. It is our job to go through all of the articles tagged with {{wikify}} and wikify them. I've noticed you tagged 1954 Rugby Union European Cup with a wikify tag, unfortunately this article is already wikified or another tag is more appropriate. The reason you tagged it incorrectly is probably due to the fact that it is not clear what the wikification process involves. Hopefully the following will give you some pointers for the future:
What Wikifying does

Wikifying an article involves 4 main things:

  • Checking to see if an article duplicates existing information and tagging it with {{merge}} if it does.
  • Checking an article for copyright violations and tagged with {{copyvio}} if one is found.
  • Adding section headings and formatting the lead.
  • Wikilinking the article.
What articles need wikification?

The best way to judge which articles need our attention is to look for the following pointers:

  • Is the article divided into sections with appropriate links and section headers?
  • Does the article have a lead paragraph with the title in bold?
  • Does the article make adequate use of wikilinks to allow for easy navigation of the encyclopedia?

If the answer to any of these is no, add {{wikify}}

If the article is obviously a copyright violation (see Wikipedia:Copyright for details or use copyscape to check the article) then tag it with {{copyvio}} - there is no need to tag it for wikification.

What wikification does not do

We do not:

  • Rewrite articles with bad grammar, punctuation or bad English - that is a job for cleanup or copyediting; use {{cleanup}} or {{copyedit}} instead
  • Categorise articles - use {{uncat}} instead
  • Find sources for articles with none - use {{unsourced}} instead.
I hope these pointers are helpful and thank you for taking the time to tag articles for us. If you want to find out more about wikifying please visit our project page or the talk page. You may even want to join the project. Wikification can be great fun, teaches you loads of different things and gives you loads to edit - we are currently dealing with a backlog of 0 tagged articles so your help would be appreciated!

Hey. I've removed your speedy deletion tag from Enrico Marone Cinzano because there are claims of notability in that he's won design awards. I looked the article over and was on the verge of speedy delete tagging it myself, but those claims stopped me. If you still think it should be deleted, I guess AfD would be the way to go. Scorpius (Chinese astronomy)[edit]

The article Scorpius (Chinese astronomy) should not be merged into Traditional Chinese star names. The intent is to establish an article on each modern constellation with information on how they relate to traditional Chinese astronomy, and Traditional Chinese star names is basically a holding area until these individual articles are written. From what I can tell, there is one user who has been diligently (if sporadically) creating these new articles and removing the information from the holding area once the new article is complete. Scorpius is the latest of these, but it may not be complete, so the author hasn't erased the section from the general star names article yet. I understand how this may create confusion and is less than ideal, but the pool of people who a) know Chinese, b) know English, c) know astronomy, AND d) edit Wikipedia is really, really small. (I know this because I've been watching it happen and trying to help at the margins with what little knowledge I have.) I'll leave the merge template up for a few more days to see if there is input from other people, but my plan is to remove it after this period. BW95 (talk) 04:32, 18 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]

I changed my mind and went ahead with removing the merge template now. BW95 (talk) 04:52, 18 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Martin Smith (ceramist)[edit]

I have reinstated this article, which was speedily deleted last night, as Martin Smith (potter). The references are inadequate, but a cursory reading of the article would reveal that it is a candidate for improvement, not deletion. A reader of Wikipedia might reasonably expect to find information in it about a Professor at the Royal College of Art with work in major museums around the world. If an editor is unfamiliar with the topic and wishes to see the article improved, the polite thing to do is to draw it to the attention of other editors who might be able to help, not to delete before anyone has a chance to comment. Marshall46 (talk) 19:26, 18 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for your message. A professor in the UK has a higher status than a professor in the USA. In British universities a professor is either the head of department or someone notable in their field and often both. What you call "professors" we call "lecturers". Professorial status in the UK is therefore, by definition, evidence of notability - and the Royal College of Art is the postgraduate university of the arts in the UK, so Martin Smith is a pretty big cheese. Give me time and I'll add more sources. Marshall46 (talk) 19:57, 18 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]
The picture you sent me is the car man, not the ceramist. Let's see if we can find a non-copyright pic. Thanks for your help! Marshall46 (talk) 08:20, 19 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Sean. Will add more sources as I populate the article. Most of the text sources are from the Wing homepage at http://15thstrikewing.mil.ph/ - and there are not much text articles about the Wing in any other websites. Unfortunately the site has not been updated in a while too.

Will do a 'ref' on the specific web pages. I'll give credit to web source and articles when it's due.

Your request for rollback[edit]

Hi AwamerT. After reviewing your request for rollback, I have enabled rollback on your account. Keep in mind these things when going to use rollback:

  • Getting rollback is no more momentous than installing Twinkle.
  • Rollback should be used to revert clear cases of vandalism only, and not good faith edits.
  • Rollback should never be used to edit war.
  • If abused, rollback rights can be revoked.
  • Use common sense.

If you no longer want rollback, contact me and I'll remove it. Also, for some more information on how to use rollback, see Wikipedia:New admin school/Rollback (even though you're not an admin). I'm sure you'll do great with rollback, but feel free to leave me a message on my talk page if you run into troubles or have any questions about appropriate/inappropriate use of rollback. Thank you for helping to reduce vandalism. Happy editing! FASTILY (TALK) 02:45, 15 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]

A couple of reversions[edit]

You reverted 71.235.38.38 (talk · contribs) on both Connecticut Route 45 and Connecticut Route 55. I have restored those two edits because they were constructive. The IP converted the infobox and junction list table to use {{jct}}, which is a Good Thing. Imzadi 1979  01:47, 25 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Reversions[edit]

Please be more careful when reverting articles. The revert on Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind that you classed as an "unexplained removal" was adequately explained using the edit summary - the section of text was already tagged as OR and had been since January 2011, allowing ample time for any discussion. The section was clearly iredeemable OR and warranted removal. Little Professor (talk) 17:16, 25 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Unexplained reversion[edit]

Hello. Was wondering why you made this reversion without any explanation? cheers, Struway2 (talk) 17:58, 25 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]

No problem, and thanks for taking seriously the addition of apparently unsourced stats. Just so you'll know another time, the stats for most footballers playing in England are sourced to Soccerbase, usually linked in the External links section. It should really be a general reference, but that's another story :-) If you'd clicked on that link on Mr Russell's page, you'd have seen that the stats were in fact correct. cheers, Struway2 (talk) 18:26, 25 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]

File permission problem with File:Cam'ronPicture.jpg[edit]

Thanks for uploading File:Cam'ronPicture.jpg. I noticed that while you provided a valid copyright licensing tag, there is no proof that the creator of the file has agreed to release it under the given license.

If you are the copyright holder for this media entirely yourself but have previously published it elsewhere (especially online), please either

  • make a note permitting reuse under the CC-BY-SA or another acceptable free license (see this list) at the site of the original publication; or
  • Send an email from an address associated with the original publication to permissions-en@wikimedia.org, stating your ownership of the material and your intention to publish it under a free license. You can find a sample permission letter here. If you take this step, add {{OTRS pending}} to the file description page to prevent premature deletion.

If you did not create it entirely yourself, please ask the person who created the file to take one of the two steps listed above, or if the owner of the file has already given their permission to you via email, please forward that email to permissions-en@wikimedia.org.

If you believe the media meets the criteria at Wikipedia:Non-free content, use a tag such as {{non-free fair use}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:File copyright tags#Fair use, and add a rationale justifying the file's use on the article or articles where it is included. See Wikipedia:File copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.

If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have provided evidence that their copyright owners have agreed to license their works under the tags you supplied, too. You can find a list of files you have created in your upload log. Files lacking evidence of permission may be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. You may wish to read the Wikipedia's image use policy. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Sfan00 IMG (talk) 13:53, 5 September 2013 (UTC)[reply]
