Your article on VfD

I just wanted to say that, while I voted to delete the article on the grounds others have given, I'm impressed by your response to the VfD. It seems that you have taken the (not particularly constructive) criticism well and made a good attempt at a rewrite that certainly removes the ad-like nature of things. Many first-time editors see their article turn up with that nasty box on it, go to VfD and start name-calling and generally getting very upset. You've managed not to do that, so I sincerely hope that you'll stick around and do some good Wikipedic work. You might want to kick off with the reading list brenneman gave you above; if you have other questions, you can drop them onto my talk page, or take a look at the Village Pump where much discussion over many things takes place. • Splash, Thanks for the kind words and advice for a Wiki newbie. After reading user feedback, I realize that my article on TampaBayStart.comis borderline at best according to the editorial guidelines. I'm exploring Wiki more now, and looking for areas in which I can contribute. I have to admit that it's a bit complex, even of an old webmaster like me. BTW, how to you append the date/time stamp to your posts? -awyllie
  • I'm glad you'll stick around. There's plenty here that needs work and plenty not here that needs writing. You can put signatures after your name by using tildes: ~. There are three options:
    • ~~~ (3 tildes) just gives your username: Splash
    • ~~~~ (4 tildes) gives your username and date/time stamp: Splash 18:35, 16 July 2005 (UTC)
    • ~~~~~ (5 tildes) gives just the date/time stamp: 18:35, 16 July 2005 (UTC)

It is overwhelmingly common to always sign with four tildes (~~~~) so that people know who you are and where in the discussion your comment comes. Wiki is a bit huge and bewildering isn't it? There is a fairly useful categorization system though: at the bottom of most articles, you'll see the categories it has been put in listed. So if you go to an article that interest you and you can't see anything to do/add, you could click the category link and see what related articles we already have. This might inspire you to a new article or show you one that really needs some work. There are also lots of stubs which are very short articles, a lot of which need major work. They are grouped together by type in Category:stub categories; be warned: there are thousands of them! There's also a list the most wanted articles (measured by how many pages have links to them, even though they don't exist). I realize that there were strong feelings on both sides with respect to the outcome of the AfD for this article, now located at Alternative theories regarding Hurricane Katrina. I would like to assure those who expressed concerns about the content, tone, and potential for degradation of this article that I intend for it to continue to exist only as long as is necessary to draw the contributions of fringe theorists away from the more substantial Hurricane Katrina articles. Once interest in this topic dies down, I'll quietly trim and merge this information into the appropriate general-topic articles. In the interim, I will carefully watch this page to prevent it from being abused, and I will continue to work towards making this article NPOV, properly sourced, and useful to those seeking an accurate record of the hysterics that so often follows catastrophe. If you have not created this media yourself then you need to argue that we have the right to use the media on Wikipedia (see copyright tagging below). If you have not created the media yourself then you should also specify where you found it, i.e., in most cases link to the website where you got it, and the terms of use for content from that page.

If the media also doesn't have a copyright tag then you must also add one. If you created/took the picture, audio, or video then you can use {{GFDL}} to release it under the GFDL. If you believe the media qualifies as fair use, please read fair use, and then use a tag such as {{Non-free fair use in|article name}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:Image copyright tags#Fair_use. See Wikipedia:Image copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.

If you have uploaded other media, please check that you have specified their source and copyright tagged them, too. • Sorry, but the article itself states that Mr. Snitker has received "little mainstream media coverage", and all the sources I checked appeared to be PR-reprint sites or blogs. I probably should have used the primary tag a7 (no indication of notability) rather than g11 (spam), but I still don't see reliable independent sources that would support this person's notability. If you believe this media is not replaceable, please:

1. Go to the media description page and edit it to add {{di-replaceable fair use disputed}}, without deleting the original replaceable fair use template.
2. On the image discussion page, write the reason why this image is not replaceable at all.

Alternatively, you can also choose to replace this non-free media by finding freely licensed media of the same subject, requesting that the copyright holder release this (or similar) media under a free license, or by taking a picture of it yourself.

Why I reverted your reversion

Look, I've been a third-party activist myself in the past. Please go through the changes I made on an item-by-item basis, and restore only those items which are reliably sourced (i.e., not to an LP blog) and which do not violate our neutral point of view in language and headers.
