Daniel Carriço

Hi there BB, AL from Portugal here,

please see this message i sent User:GiantSnowman (see here http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/User_talk:GiantSnowman#Daniel_Carri.C3.A7o_-_Doubt), drop in a line if you like. I also hope my summary did not strike you as offensive, i was sincerely taken aback/surprised by your removal of links, that was all. Also, please don't remove again my wording in his Sporting sub-section, "the following campaign" is also quite easy to read through by English users, being the one IMMEDIATELY AFTER 2010-11. I'll try to find a ref for his Sporting debut.

Happy 2013 and editing, sorry for any incovenience - --AL (talk) 02:44, 2 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]

  • Ref found! --AL (talk) 02:48, 2 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Using CAPS is widely known to be meant as shouting and the ?! at the end I suppose is offensive, but that doesn't bother me as that's your problem. Not sure why your getting another editor involved as this is such a small issue. I think links shouldn't be hidden behind words and do you really think someone reading about a player needs to know what replacing means? Links are good, not when the text becomes hard to read. BaldBoris 03:17, 2 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]
  • Like i said, sorry for any incovenience, i knew instantly this might be an issue, i did not want to be offensive but i instantly knew after pressing "enter" i might come across as such, i apologize again, can't be doing it over and over again. The caps problem is when i want to emphasize on a particular word, not shouting in my case; for the "!?" bit i have no excuse for, really uncalled for.

Getting another user involved? Merely to get a second opinion, not that i don't think yours is valid or anything or not that i was complaining and whining to the other user, i also apologize it that was not a propos WP standard procedure. If you notice, i have not reinstated the links after you removed them a second time with a completely valid summary.

Attentively again - --AL (talk) 08:01, 2 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Greg LeMond

It was only after I responded to you on the talk page for Greg LeMond that I saw that you had, in fact, already made some edits to the article. Just wanted to say thanks and ask that you continue to assist GBD and I to the degree that you're able, as we've carried the entire burden of improving the article dramatically in the past two months with little effective feedback except from not even a handful of other editors, which is a shame (since the subject is definitely worthy of full-treatment). Cheers. joepaT 01:09, 11 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]

I will help you as much I can as I think it can be a great article. BaldBoris 01:46, 11 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Bradley Wiggins Lead

Hey broseph, like the work on the page, keep it up. In the lead where you go on about the Summer Olympics, try to find a way to not have "Summer Olympics" repeated over and over (I was playing around with it but I'm just too tired to think of anything good). I removed the 2012's from the last sentence in the next paragraph since they weren't necessary as you stated "In 2012" at the beginning. Just a little heads up before the GA review starts, because I know that will get pointed out. Disc Wheel (Malk + Montributions) 04:27, 16 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]

In this instance I agree it does make it easier to read, but I don't like links being hidden just because it looks better. BaldBoris 00:35, 17 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]
I never said it looked better, I'm just saying it is repetitive to see Summer Olympics four times in a single sentence where the other three could easily omitted and I know the GA reviewer would bring that up in his/her review. Disc Wheel (Malk + Montributions) 01:02, 17 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Sure the Summer can go but I'm not happy about the hidden links. The user thinks they're clicking a link to Paris–Nice but they end up at 2012 Paris–Nice, it just doesn't seem right to me. BaldBoris 01:11, 17 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Orphaned non-free media (File:Team Eddy Merckx-Indeland logo.jpg)

Thanks for uploading File:Team Eddy Merckx-Indeland logo.jpg. The media description page currently specifies that it is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, it is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the media was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that media for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

Caja Rural Editorial Discussion

I am new to editing Wikipedia articles, so I am not sure about the accepted way to discuss changes with other editors. So, apologies if inclusion on your Talk page is not appropriate. I did address this in the "Talk" section of the article itself, and inserted a hidden tag in the article text pointing to that, but not sure if these would be conspicuous if you are watching a large number of pages.

The issue was that my inclusion on 21 January 2013 of a list of co-sponsors and descriptions was deleted, with the brief explanation as its being unencyclopedic. I thought that my inclusion of this information would establish with the reader the team's credentials as a credible newcomer and also as an entrenched Basque regional player. As it stands now the Sponsor section has only one sentence that strikes me more as a 'factoid' than truly relevant and pertaining more to the brand of bike than to the team.

Was the objection that there were links to commercial websites? I would be happy to reinstate the information but omit those links if so. The links were only added in case a reader sought additional information on companies that were not covered by Wikipedia articles.

If the objection was that the section's detail is out of balance with the rest of the article, I think that is a fair observation; but as is probably evident, I have taken a interest in this article and it is work in progress. So, I would hope to expand the other information as I compile it.

Thanks, Transonic Crayon (talk) 16:02, 23 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Welcome to Wikipedia. Sorry I missed your discussion at Talk:Caja Rural. The issue I had was that it didn't seem worthy of the article, I'm not sure if having a section listing all their current sponsors is needed. I have removed to entire section for now. Maybe take a look at Team Sky#Sponsorship to see the style that is acceptable. BaldBoris 16:52, 23 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]
OK. Thanks. I see that the Team Sky#Sponsorship section is more prose than a bullet listing. I will try to fix up and reinsert the section in this style. Transonic Crayon (talk) 17:05, 23 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Section now rewritten and reintroduced, modelled after the Team Sky#Sponsorship style. Transonic Crayon (talk) 18:31, 7 February 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Just thought you should know, the reason that article was unreferenced was because an IP vandal removed half the article including all the references, back in August 2011. I've just restored it while adding a new reference in relation to an upcoming rebrand. You may want to review it as it almost certainly led to duplication due to intermediate edits. Thanks. Disambiguation link notification for February 12

Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. Wikipedia appreciates your help. We noticed though that when you edited Tom Simpson, you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page Pursuit (check to confirm | fix with Dab solver). Such links are almost always unintended, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of "Did you mean..." article titles. Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.

Tom Simpson

Fabulous work there - its an excellent article - are you looking to get it moved up to GA or FA status? Could see it passing --Bcp67 (talk) 15:53, 14 February 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks. That's the plan, but there's still a lot of work to be done. BaldBoris 17:30, 14 February 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Cheers. If you need a hand with copy-editing or proof-reading etc I'm more than willing. Probably wouldn't be able to add much to the text of the article. I've read the Fotheringham and Sidwells books on Simpson a fair while back but don't have any useful material to hand. All the best. --Bcp67 (talk) 17:38, 14 February 2013 (UTC)[reply]
I'll definitely need help with the copy-editing. I'll let you know when I'm done. I've got Fotheringham's book and there's plenty online to use. BaldBoris 20:54, 14 February 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Replaceable fair use File:Team Sky jersey.jpg

Thanks for uploading File:Team Sky jersey.jpg. I noticed the description page specifies that this media item is being used under a claim of fair use, but its use in Wikipedia articles fails the first non-free content criterion in that it illustrates a subject for which a freely licensed media item could be found or created that provides substantially the same information or which could be adequately covered with text alone. If you believe this media item is not replaceable, please:

  1. Go to the file description page and edit it to add {{di-replaceable fair use disputed}}, without deleting the original replaceable fair use template.
  2. On the file discussion page, write the reason why this media item is not replaceable at all.

Alternatively, you can also choose to replace this non-free media item by finding freely licensed media of the same subject, requesting that the copyright holder release this (or similar) media under a free license, or by creating new media yourself (for example, by taking your own photograph of the subject).

If you have uploaded other non-free media, consider checking that you have specified how these media fully satisfy our non-free content criteria. You can find a list of description pages you have edited by clicking on this link. Note that even if you follow steps 1 and 2 above, non-free media which could be replaced by freely licensed alternatives will be deleted 2 days after this notification (7 days if uploaded before 13 July 2006), per the non-free content policy. If you have any questions, please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Stefan2 (talk) 15:21, 18 March 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Barnstar for Reading work

Hi there. You don't know me, but I was just reading Reading, Berkshire. I have alot of connection with this town, and it was great to read a well-developed and well-written article like the one you did. On the basis of that article alone I was going to come here and thank you for the work you did, but then I noticed you'd also spun out alot of the info into separate articles, just as well-written and really insightful into the more niche areas it covered. As said, I have a real interest in this town, and it's a real service the work you did for people like me with that interest. I'm so grateful that I've decided to give you a barnstar. I can see from your frontpage you do already have one for your Reading work, but surely you can never have enough barnstars! Thank you and again a great read. Redverton (talk) 02:09, 24 March 2013 (UTC)[reply]

The Original Barnstar
It's one thing to write a good article on a town. It's another to do that, and spin out extra info into more good articles. A mark of a very good Wikipedian. Thank you for all your work for Reading, Berkshire and the related articles. Redverton (talk) 02:09, 24 March 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you, but I can't take the credit for text side of things, you'll have to thank users Chris j wood, Starbois and Stfg (copy editor). I just cleaned it up and helped promote it to it's good article status. My aim was for it to be appreciated by people like you. BaldBoris 10:38, 24 March 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for letting me know it wasn't just you who did all that, but please still do accept the barnstar. It's quite apparent you did a hell of alot of the work. Anymore development on Reading articles planned or just about done? Redverton (talk) 21:15, 25 March 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Sorry late reply, no I'm not giving up on Reading just been busy with cycling related stuff. BaldBoris 12:56, 17 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Future Publishing > Future plc

Hello, well done on updating the articles that are Published by Future plc. I have a slight problem with some of the edits though. As an example take Mega, Future Publishing published the magazine, long before the company floated on the stock market and even longer before the name change to Future plc. I think its wrong to change this historic information in articles published before the name change, as it is incorrect information, readers will find that Future plc have never published a magazine called Mega, I think a piped link to Future plc that says Future Publishing would be a better solution. Wikipedia doesn't update record labels, book publishers or film publishers as their titles change hands or as their companies change name and I think that policy should be applied in this case as well. Once again, thanks for updating the other Future plc links. - X201 (talk) 07:52, 9 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]

File:Team Caja Rural 2013 Jersey.jpg

Thanks for fixing up the image! Looks great. Since then it has been challenged by Stefan2 (talk) on fair use grounds under the contention that a free alternative exists, or that no such claim of its being irreplaceable is made (which it was). This contention is supported by nothing factual as far as I can tell. See my talk page. Any advice on how to make this go away would be appreciated. This sort of thing seems to be more and more prevalent. Transonic Crayon (talk) 12:19, 17 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks OK. It happened to Ineos Grenadiers's jersey as well, here. He's actually right because a plain coloured jersey can be used instead, like on FC Barcelona. I can make jersey's, but this issue really needs to mentioned on Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Cycling. BaldBoris 12:54, 17 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]
I agree this needs to be brought up, but I disagree with Stefan2 for the reasons I cited in the dispute tag to the image file. I think that those sorts of sanitised images as used in FC Barcelona do not convey the same information or identify the team. In the case of Caja Rural, a depiction of a green shirt with a white horizontal stripe and yellow piping would not even uniquely identify the team, and could even be argued to be so far removed from the original as to demean the team's intended image or corrupt its intended corporate identity. The notion that there is a risk to the copyright holder of commercial exploitation from Wikipedia's publishing an image like this or that it could lead to the garment becoming a generic pattern in the public domain is preposterous. Another article is hardly a guide is it? Wiggins was born in Belgium because his parents (Aussie and English) were working there, moving to the UK two years later. Farah is actually Somalian and came to the UK as an eight-year-old. Huge difference. BaldBoris 13:29, 17 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Wrong, Farah's dad is British and his parents met during a holiday. Pass a Method talk 15:17, 17 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Oh well, still a different than Wiggins. BaldBoris 15:21, 17 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Disambiguation link notification for April 20

Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. Wikipedia appreciates your help. Hi! I noticed you edit a lot of cycling articles, happy to "meet" you :). I edited the Renshaw article and noticed in the history that a guy deleted a big chunk of the article in 3 edits in 2010, I don't really know how to revert that, it seems to be downright blanking. It probably fell under the radar at the time. Here is the change, I ask you because you probably know how to do this (rollback or something). Thank you. Mattaidepikiw (Talk) 07:34, 23 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]

You too Matt. I had to manually revert the edits, you can't rollback all edits. Go to preferences > gadgets > browsing and check/tick twinkle, this will allow you to rollback edits plus others things. BaldBoris 14:40, 23 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]
OK thank you! Mattaidepikiw (Talk) 16:22, 23 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Hi! Do you follow cycling daily? I edited Alessandro Petacchi regarding his retirement, but they said on TV today that he said he'd want to race a last Tour! They don't respect the poor volunteer WP editor :). I ride a lot and like to improve texts on cycling articles whenever I have the chance, the work would be just INFINITE! What about you? You sure seem to put a lot of effort into it, you sorted the Renshaw thing perfectly. Thanks for the nice answer. Mattaidepikiw (Talk) 21:01, 24 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Yes I follow cycling daily, not weekly (joke). I don't think Petacchi really wants to quit. I agree, there is an endless amount of work to do on cycling here. In the UK cycling seems to be more popular than ever, so hopefully there'll be some new editors on the English wiki. I noticed you have a French user page, which do you use more? BaldBoris 22:21, 24 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]
I use the English account a lot more, I'm a native French speaker, but after realizing what a daunting task it would be to improve articles (in both languages) I am concentrating on English. Let's wait for Petacchi, maybe more than meets the eye. (Puerto!) My total number of contribs are not big, but I don't care, what's important is that the contrib adds to the article :) Mattaidepikiw (Talk) 23:27, 24 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Simpson

Great work as ever! This sentence I think could do with the rider's name as it doesn't seem to be mentioned in the paragraph; "His friend and team-mate on the British team advised Simpson to limit his loses and settle with what he had;[27] his Peugeot manager, Gaston Plaud, was in Marseille and asked Simpson to quit the race, even he had no durisdiction.[40][33]" but I'm not sure who it is - presumably Vin Denson? --Bcp67 (talk) 20:29, 30 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]

It was Vin Denson, thanks. The death section has completely drained me, so I'm not surprised by the mistake. It needs a serious clean up. I just wanted to get the facts straight first. BaldBoris 21:37, 30 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Hi! I wrote the 2012 one, I'm in to start the 2013 one (I think), but I was wondering if there was a "skeleton" for a cycling race available somewhere, I know they have on the French wiki. I'm riding a lot recently, did my biggest ride yesterday with 115 kms, the winter fat is melting away :P Have a nice day. Mattaidepikiw (Talk) 22:30, 8 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Can't find anything, I'm not too up on my races. It would be something like this though Wikipedia:WikiProject Cycling/Standard cycling race. The 2012 one looks fine, so just use that, I'm sure people will chip in. Or just use a world tour race from this year as an example ie 2013 Tour of the Basque Country. Yes, back on the bike. I take it your from the French part of Canada? BaldBoris 23:52, 8 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Yep, from Quebec, with our broken roads and poutine! Thank god for the extensive network of cycling paths using former railways, our roads are awful! And you where are you from? Mattaidepikiw (Talk) 00:15, 9 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]
In the south of England, the county of Berkshire to be precise. The roads aren't great here either. BaldBoris 00:34, 9 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]
At least you guys don't have much climbs I reckon! A pleasure to go up on any surface, but here the descents are an obstacle course... I just swinged the article (2013 Tour of California) into mainspace, still I'll do more.
I am not one for arguing a lot, but I think B-Watchmework has a point about palmares, if you care to read what I replied on his page. But as for me, when I check for prior results, I rarely include anything below a top 5, unless it is a big classic or an overall on a World Tour stage race. Anyway, I like to edit, and cycling articles of "average to stub" riders really suck, I try to put some text in the best I can, which is why I think we should be tolerant. I hope he heeds my advice though, saying we need more referenced texts than palmares additions. So great to have found an experienced editor that actually cares, (you!) if you want to add to the article as the race goes by, it would be great, I hate to do tables! I'll finish the stage headers soon and try to dig out some info tomorrow, right now my brain is boiling with fatigue :) Mattaidepikiw (Talk) 02:06, 9 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]
It varies throughout the country, round here there's a lot of small steep climbs. I'm sure B-Watchmework will get to know the ropes eventually. The ToC looks good. Nice work on the Hesjedal Giro update (I need to do Wiggo's). One thing though, the Cyclingnews.com ref you've used won't point (URL) to the 2013 Giro next year; for example Ryder Hesjedal#cite note-21 cites stage 7's result, but you end up at this years. That one is solved by replacing /giro-ditalia/ → /races/giro-ditalia-2012/. There must be tons of links on wiki that point to this years races but are cited for a previous years. Nightmare right? BaldBoris 13:24, 11 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Wow... Infinite work :S Mattaidepikiw (Talk) 20:38, 11 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]
I was already trying to vary my sources, so I guess I'll try to take CyclingNews a bit less... Will it do the same thing about the Tour of California?? I'll write it, can't wait for it to start actually. I'll try to coerce Svefnpurka into doing the tables... I really hate that (not coercing, doing the tables lol) :) Mattaidepikiw (Talk) 23:20, 11 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]
UP HERE!! Hi Baldboris, I'm continuing the article about the ToC, quite an interesting race! I hope you won't mind if I reinstated the tables about the World Championships and Olympics on the Peter Sagan article, I mean, those are big races, even though it's not a top ten. I saw you expanded the Tom Simpson article quite a bit, it is a riveting article and topic. Cheers and if you disagree about Sagan, just let me know. Mattaidepikiw (Talk) 03:25, 15 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]
The tables aren't big deal to me, just doesn't seem right for them to be in the major result section. I can only handle one race at a time and the Giro comes first. Yes it is, I want tell the whole story of Simpson, not just the juicy bits. BaldBoris 10:00, 15 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Cycling Team Jerseys

I am not sure where this issue stands in the broader Wikipedia and Cycling WikiProject, but it would appear that we have prevailed in our argument that team kit images used in the way they are in the team Wikipedia pages qualify as Fair Use. Even the Sports Uniform tag's text looks different to me, but I don't know how to check any of this. Transonic Crayon (talk) 10:51, 17 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Was wondering

about your edit to List of professional cyclists who died during a race where the background color was deleted and the images were moved to the right. Thanks, Shearonink (talk) 22:47, 25 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]

I want to change the tables' back to their previous appearance but if you have specific thoughts about the background color and the pics placement, would like to discuss any possible changes with you first. Thanks, Shearonink (talk) 04:45, 27 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]
I don't understand why the table backgrounds need to be green and images are generally aligned to the left in lists. See List of Grand Tour general classification winners for a good example or WP:FLA for all featured lists. BaldBoris 09:27, 27 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]
So far as I can tell, this particular List has become something fairly unique, perhaps a hybrid tables-&-text, so in terms of the previous blue background color, that was rendered for visual clarity and interest, otherwise the decades seemed to meld all together.
Regarding the placement of the images, there are a couple of reasons for their previous placement. 1)They were specifically placed under the Decades headers (1910s, 1970s, etc) to delineate a change in time and to visually place the cyclists within their "times". 2)Unlike List of Grand Tour general classification winners, many of these cyclists do not have their own article or even images and I had difficulty finding appropriate CC-licensed pics, so, per Lists that have photos of individuals (like Assistant Commandant of the Marine Corps), the photos at least were placed on the same side as the names. The photo of Peter Günther and the photo of the Stan Ockers Street sign as they appear now are somewhat problematic, since they both look away from the article itself and per WP:IMAGELOCATION were placed so they would look at their decade's text.
Btw, maybe take a look at the List in its unreferenced/unimproved state, this link will show you how far it's come: July 2010 version of 'List of professional cyclists who have died during a race'. Shearonink (talk) 14:21, 27 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Would like to discuss your changes further. Thanks, Shearonink (talk) 15:19, 1 June 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Hey BaldBoris

I'm sending you this because you've made quite a few edits to the template namespace in the past couple of months. If I've got this wrong, or if I haven't but you're not interested in my request, don't worry; this is the only notice I'm sending out on the subject :).

So, as you know (or should know - we sent out a centralnotice and several watchlist notices) we're planning to deploy the VisualEditor on Monday, 1 July, as the default editor. For those of us who prefer markup editing, fear not; we'll still be able to use the markup editor, which isn't going anywhere.

What's important here, though, is that the VisualEditor features an interactive template inspector; you click an icon on a template and it shows you the parameters, the contents of those fields, and human-readable parameter names, along with descriptions of what each parameter does. Personally, I find this pretty awesome, and from Monday it's going to be heavily used, since, as said, the VisualEditor will become the default.

The thing that generates the human-readable names and descriptions is a small JSON data structure, loaded through an extension called TemplateData. I'm reaching out to you in the hopes that you'd be willing and able to put some time into adding TemplateData to high-profile templates. It's pretty easy to understand (heck, if I can write it, anyone can) and you can find a guide here, along with a list of prominent templates, although I suspect we can all hazard a guess as to high-profile templates that would benefit from this. Hopefully you're willing to give it a try; the more TemplateData sections get added, the better the interface can be. If you run into any problems, drop a note on the Feedback page.

Thanks, Okeyes (WMF) (talk) 21:33, 28 June 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Hi - I just edited Andrey Kashechkin to include an image in the infobox, and it's of him in Astana team colors, but is a six-year old image! There are, I think, five images of "Kash" in wikimedia commons we could draw on: the one Astana shot and then four Lampre pics. The Lampre ones are higher-resolution and one of them is quite well-composed imo, but of course Kash no ride for dem nomore! Can you help me discover consensus: should we use the old Astana image, or a nicer, newer Lampre image, even though he's not on Lampre anymore?

Let me know your thoughts! Grazie! Azx2 19:02, 10 July 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Chris Froome

Since you're so determined to retain the citations in their current form, perhaps you'd care to explain how anyone checking references is aided by the unsurprising news that BBC Sport is published by the BBC, or that the Daily Telegraph is published by Telegraph Media Group (to quote only two examples)? Colonies Chris (talk) 19:48, 22 July 2013 (UTC)?[reply]

Is this your opinion or an opinion held by the community? The style is consistent throughout the article (which is mentioned in the lead of WP:CS1). Whether I agree with you doesn't matter because I'm following a guide formed by a general consensus. What I don't agree with is the way you impose your opinion on an article your haven't contributed to. BaldBoris 21:10, 22 July 2013 (UTC)[reply]
You have a right to choose any style you want, but since you so determinedly insist upon departing from the recommendations at Template:Citation#Publisher ("Not normally included for periodicals"), I assume you must have a good reason to do so. I'm asking you to enlighten me. I cannot imagine any way in which knowing that the Telegraph is published by Telegraph Media Group will help anyone checking references. Colonies Chris (talk) 09:35, 23 July 2013 (UTC)[reply]
I don't have a good reason, I just like being consistent and giving the reader all information available. Of course adding Telegraph Media Group doesn't "help anyone checking references", but it is what is it is. I suppose I've been doing it for so long I can't see your point. When's it normal for it to be included for periodicals? It's not the best guide is it? BaldBoris 10:22, 23 July 2013 (UTC)[reply]
The only time I can see it being useful for periodicals is when the publication is particularly obscure, and the publisher's name might provide another way of tracing it. That certainly doesn't apply to Billboard or the New York Times. There's no benefit in giving the reader information they can't use. (And with US newspapers there's an additional reason to omit it because the law distinguishes between the legal owner (e.g. The New York Times Company) and the publisher, always an individual, so it's not even accurate.) Work on Tom Simpson

The Original Barnstar
I know we haven't seen eye-to-eye on certain things involving cycling in the past, but I have to wholeheartedly commend your work on the Simpson article. I cannot imagine it not passing GA, or even FA for that matter. So yeah, have yourself one of these. Craig(talk) 20:30, 23 July 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Just a quick note that the medal record in the infobox has two different formats for the two medals; World Championships has year first, whereas the Olympics has year following the location. I don't suppose it matters what way we put it, but as long as the two correlate with one another! Once finished, it will look great. As I said before, it will get to GA without a doubt. Hopefully it doesn't take three months like it usually does, for example when I stuck last year's Dauphiné up for GAN in mid-January, and it wasn't until the end of April that it got the green light. Clean slate sounds good to me. It's how I'm approaching the rest of the season with the race summaries I think. Although I was disappointed that nobody picked up with the reports for the Tour, I'm glad I stood back. I got to the stage after the Dauphiné and the Tour de Suisse (writing up those reports on holiday, man!), that I hit the wall. But I should be afresh for Saturday and the start of Poland...in Italy...and its two-day salvo before a rest day...and six-rider teams... Going to be something different! Craig(talk) 23:26, 23 July 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Hopefully, the review request won't go stagnant, and that it can be turned over pretty quickly. I enjoyed the race more so than previous years, because it is was eventful from start to finish. No mega mass crashes, like the Metz massacre, and we only lost 29 riders due to withdrawals during the race. Poland is really going to be quite interesting; Sky have a mega squad, with Urán and Henao tuning up for the Vuelta. I think the most interesting thing with the six-rider teams would be the reduced leadouts, and that potentially, GC men would be doing leadouts that would not usually occur. Other than that, I agree; I cannot see much difference. Craig(talk) 07:14, 25 July 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Potential assistance with cropping

Hey man, long time no speak. Good to see some of the Simpson articles getting that GA icon. Basically, I may be requiring your assistance for potentially cropping some photos that I snapped at the Tour of Britain on Monday... you know the day that it basically rained harder than it did on Sunday in Scotland, and harder than the safari park on Tuesday. That and potentially a second set of eyes on the photos. Any help would be much appreciated, and for which ones that could be usable on Commons. :) Here's the set. Craig(talk) 22:05, 18 September 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Yeah, all's well. Still trying to catch up on the palmares from Sunday 15th onwards, just because of how busy I've been in the last 7 to 10 days. Typical GA backlog; it will get reviewed eventually, I hope. Yeah, it was a good race overall. Knew Wiggins had it covered after the win at Knowsley, but it was good to see some young talent winning some stages with Sam Bennett winning at Caerphilly (thought he was really unlucky at Kendal, where Ciolek had him covered at the 15% finishing hill of Beast Banks), and Simon Yates coming off a superb Tour de l'Avenir to take the queen stage at Haytor. Ah yeah, that was the one that finished on the pavé in Guildford? No surprises about the winner on that one... Whether Mr. Cavendish keeps the rainbows, I'm not too sure. Don't think the terrain suits him for Sunday. Weather permitting of course. Ah, that's a shame, but I certainly agree with you on the seeing them in the flesh part. That was a first experience of cycling live in person rather than on TV for me. Had the chance to see the National Championships when they were up in Glasgow, but I was flying home from Canada that day so I was rather jet-lagged.
Yeah, absolutely. Is there any particular photos you would like for Share Alike, or would you rather me to set the full set as such? Craig(talk) 21:03, 24 September 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Can honestly see the race going 2.HC within the next few years, I think. The event is coming on strong of late, and coupled with the two Grand Tour starts in the British Isles next year, it's definitely high time for the most prestigious race in our country to be boosted in its classification. I would put Yates as favourite to win the world title on Friday; looks a mighty strong entry list with the likes of Caleb Ewan, Jasper Stuyven, Petr Vakoč, Michael Valgren, Davide Villella, Dylan van Baarle and Nick van der Lijke also potentially starting. Under-23 race could even beat the main race for wide open-ness. Barhatch Lane is one tight piece of tarmac. Looks bloody amazing even on Google Maps. Martin's too strong for everyone in the time trial nowadays; he just has the odd off time-trial, but he's even more dominant than what Cancellara was. Perhaps Spartacus was keeping something back for Sunday, who knows. But it is wide open. I might put a small wager on either Valverde or Boasson Hagen; the latter is 40/1(!) with Paddy Power. Yeah, I'll get that set changed tomorrow. I would do it tonight, but I'm probably going to head to bed in a minute as work has finally caught up on me from earlier! It's a hard life sometimes! Craig(talk) 23:43, 25 September 2013 (UTC)[reply]
That's it batched Share Alike, I believe. Craig(talk) 18:18, 26 September 2013 (UTC)[reply]
I had a look through it earlier on, but it looks as if only around half of the photos have gone up, which is quite strange. All the photos away from the cycling seem to have been uploaded but about 90 images haven't gone up... Strange. Yeah, the categories are a bit off considering the tags that I stuck on the photos. Sunday's race was rather damp... almost as bad as conditions in Kendal a fortnight ago. I admittedly caught only the final two hours of the race because of the MotoGP that was on earlier in the day. From what I saw, Purito digged deep, but Costa seemed to want it more. Purito gave up in the closing metres, and padded Costa's victory to a near-bike length. I've been impressed with Costa this season; ripped them apart in Switzerland again, and took two fine stage wins at the Tour. Another world champion's jersey going to Lampre, via Movistar at the end of this season. Glad Valverde beat Nibali for the bronze though; some dodgy adjudicating from the commissaires on homeground of course. Five road medals but no golds... Will it ever come good for him? The British team... well... the less said about them, the better. It was a total disaster. You have to play the conditions, no matter how bad they are. Look at the other big nations; Spain had four left at the end, Belgium four, and Italy likewise. Great Britain were an embarrassment. Four riders with medals; the newly-retired Katie Colclough's gold in the TTT, Wiggins' silver and then Froome and Thomas getting a bronze in the TTT. Shocking. Perfect lead into a Commonwealths year. Congrats on getting the article up to GA status - sorry I was never able to contribute as I'd hoped to, but it's a great article and well-deserved for GA. --Bcp67 (talk) 16:30, 16 November 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks. My goal is to get it on the front page, so there's chance to get involved still. BaldBoris 16:57, 16 November 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Wahey! Good to see the article progressing up the class ladder! Looks amazing so far, and still with the possibility of getting it up to FA, it will look even better than it already does. Craig(talk) 22:00, 23 November 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Revision in Bill Mitchell article

I'm baffled as to one of your edits. You added the link "CyclingNews.com" to the "External links" of the article Bill Mitchell. What was that about? What's the connection to the article's subject? -The Gnome (talk) 00:31, 10 December 2013 (UTC)[reply]

He created the site. The link was added to the see also section which is inline with WP:ALSO. BaldBoris 01:43, 10 December 2013 (UTC)[reply]
(I copied your response here so that we keep the conversation in one place, if you don't mind. It's much easier this way.) I say "wow"! I did not know that. Guess we'll have to put it in the article, with a bit of background. Do we have anything on Mitchell's personal life? The elementary stuff I mean, i.e. marital status, any children, city of residence, etc.-The Gnome (talk) 07:18, 10 December 2013 (UTC)[reply]
