I am not sure what actions you could take at this time, as it seems that you have already been clear. If you do see a venue that you could help mediate this, please do so. I simply felt that it was time I took a more active role in this unfolding event.Heather Adams (talk) 17:59, 16 October 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Hi,

this link is already before on wiki page, i didn't add any link in my talk. i update only versions only. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Pushpendra MDS (talkcontribs) 07:58, 19 October 2012 (UTC)[reply]

You only had one reference, from the company itself. You also included two links in the paragraph, both to the company itself. As far as writing just about your product, you need to include more references to other people talking about your product, such as on the TV news, in a newspaper, in a book, on a website, etc. The product should meet the Notability guidelines, namely that you should include independent, third-party sources. You could instead put in a generic paragraph talking about different types of tools, and IndicPlus could be one of those tools, but you can't write a paragraph just about IndicPlus when nobody else is talking about it. I hope this helps. :) Banaticus (talk) 08:14, 19 October 2012 (UTC)[reply]
User:Robertsthuller was the first person to add that link to the page, but it still shouldn't be there at all, without other people talking about it, without additional neutral third-part references (not quotes from the same company that made it). Unfortunately, Banaticus' response misses the point completely. This user has had a spam article for this company deleted twice, which was apparently copied from this unencyclopedic garbage.

Pushpendra MDS: You seem to have forgotten that Wikipedia is an encyclopedia. That means you cannot, under any circumstances, advertise or promote your company on Wikipedia. Yet that is precisely what you are doing. Any further edits related to MetaDesign Solutions will result in your editing privileges being revoked. MER-C 08:59, 19 October 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Rectification of Swinton Circle entry.[edit]

Dear Banaticus,

Many thanks for your recent contact relating to the Swinton Circle Wikipedia entry.

Alas the constant vandalism of this page, presumably by those who we unfortunately had to expel from the organisation in early 2009, has been a constant source of distress for us for several years. I have tried to be as objective as possible with this entry, but alas two sections are so manifestly untrue that I had no alternative but to remove them. The first makes obscure reference to somebody to apparently merely addressed the Swinton Circle over two decades ago, who evidently had also written an obscure anti-Semitic book some years previously. This has absolutely NOTHING to do with the Swintom Circle per se.

The second section which I have removed is far more serious however. It states that Alan Harvey was expelled from the Swinton Circle, whereas he not only remains a member but was indeed re-elected Chairman at the organisation's AGM on 27th September 2012! Furthermore there is reference therein to a set of fabricated obscene photographs claimed to be of Alan Harvey which have been proved to be fake and indeed were the subject of legal action a few months ago. There is also substantial reference to Mr. Gary Cartwright therein, which may or may not be true, but which is actually irrelevant as Mr. Cartwright no longer sits on the Swinton Circle Committee, and indeed has had no connection with the organisation for several years.

Finally I restricted myself to adding just one brief section to this entry so as not to be accused of bias. This one small section was essential however, as it related to the expulsion of Mr. Allan Robertson (which can be proved by much documentary evidence) who was earlier mentioned as if he was still involved in the organisation.

I hope that all this helps. The best solution, of course, would be the entire removal of this entry about the Swinton Circle from Wikipedia. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 86.180.164.121 (talk) 11:11, 19 October 2012 (UTC)[reply]

The things that you removed seem to be verifiably true, as they have seem to have newspaper and magazine references. For the few that I've looked at, the linked websites seem to be from good newspapers and seem to be backing up what's said in the article. Things in Wikipedia need to be verifiable and since that article is, you can't really delete it unless you have good sources which say otherwise. Do you have good sources which say otherwise? Can you link them? Banaticus (talk) 16:55, 19 October 2012 (UTC)[reply]

National Archives at Riverside, California[edit]

Bdcousineau is looking for a wiki contact to introduce Wikipedia at the National Archives at Riverside, California. Would you be interested?Smallman12q (talk) 03:05, 20 October 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Possibly -- what would that entail, how long would you like me to speak? When are you looking to do that? Many of my weekdays could be open. The only weekends that I have open are Thanksgiving weekend then the 23rd of February. Banaticus (talk) 04:36, 20 October 2012 (UTC)[reply]

My first talkback scroll !

The peeps at the NARA Riverside are just beginning to investigate Wikipedia, and could use some guidance and instruction. Right now they are just making links to their materials (they've made one link so far) and want to track if it changes web traffic. I offered to find them someone to give a quick lesson on the basics ... I'm pretty sure my contact there does not use user/talk. I'm not even sure how much time they want to devote to this. I imagine it might be a one or two hour how-to to get them started. This would have to start via email. Let me check with her to see what she wants in particular. Are you at all game?

My interest is that I am about creating community however possible and also want to see NARA push materials out into the world (I work at NARA but v far from them). also, I'm working with Smallman12q on a GLAM project for the Gerald R. Ford Presidential Library ,and am excited to have other NARA agencies get excited too. Bdcousineau (talk) 23:51, 21 October 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Sure, I'm game. They'd pretty much have to get started on using the documents, etc., that they have to improve Wikipedia articles, citing what they have as sources. If they contribute materials to the Commons, it seems like that wouldn't increase traffic to their own website. I can certainly give them a brief overview of how Wikipedia works, and how to edit articles if that's what they're looking for, by email or in person. In any case, they should start a user account, so that they can start contributing to articles. Once they create an account, they can use the link over on the left and email me, or you can email me for them. I usually prefer corresponding on-wiki when engaged in a dispute here, but for a simple teaching opportunity I don't mind emailing. Banaticus (talk) 03:39, 22 October 2012 (UTC)[reply]

ok, let me see if I can get this ball rolling! I"ll report back. Thank you. Bdcousineau (talk) 12:36, 22 October 2012 (UTC)[reply]

October 2012[edit]

Please stop your disruptive editing. If you continue to add defamatory content, as you did at Tanveer Ashraf Kaira, you may be blocked from editing. Youreallycan 21:29, 20 October 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Please excuse the template but you replaced this uncited defamatory likely libelous content to a wikipedia article of a living person - why did you do that? Youreallycan 21:33, 20 October 2012 (UTC)[reply]

You're right, that was my mistake. I saw an unregistered user delete a section with no explanation and I presumed that it was just another vandal deleting a section for fun. I think I was fairly polite with the message that I left on their user page, though. I simply described the incident as an edit test possibly gone awry and reassured them that I'd restored the deleted material. Again, sorry, I should have simply ignored the edit. Banaticus (talk) 06:12, 21 October 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Cool - thanks for looking again - yes , it is always good to take a little time to really look at the content - especially in regards to WP:BLP content - if its uncited and contentious please consider carefully the reasons to replace it - thanks - Youreallycan 06:25, 21 October 2012 (UTC)[reply]

NARA at Riverside, CA[edit]

ok, the folks at NARA are looking forward to you contacting them: Gwen.Granados at nara.gov (redacted)

I will check back to see what transpires! Bdcousineau (talk) 16:54, 22 October 2012 (UTC)[reply]

ps - please put the word Wikipedia in the subject line so she can de-spam it... my name is Bettina for reference Bdcousineau (talk) 17:02, 22 October 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Bdcousineau, you really really shouldn't put your phone number on a public website like that. Also, Wikipedians almost never contact each other by phone. If for some reason you really want to give someone your phone number, it should be done via email. Someguy1221 (talk) 00:15, 24 October 2012 (UTC)[reply]
I used that email you gave me and emailed them, basically asked what they were looking for, said that I was referred by you (using your name), then gave them my name, phone number, and email. I figured the earlier posting of personal information was an oversight, so I requested that it receive Wikipedia Oversight. It's general practice to not other people's personal information, because some people are concerned with identity theft. Banaticus (talk) 02:13, 24 October 2012 (UTC)[reply]

ok, point taken, but none of what I posted was personal info!! I'm a federal employee (see my user page) and lectured on this annually. It's a work email and an office phone. For a place so bent on open access, you guys are quick to pounce. And Someguy1221 if you followed the thread, you would see that the newbies I was trying to make a connection with DO NoT understand user talk pages yet. However, that being said, I thank you for paying attention and making sure I'm/others are safe! This is amazing place, so glad I showed up.

Banaticus, I appreciate you following thru. We have a Wikipeidan-in-Residence but he thus far has not answered any type of contact to help newbies like us get started. I thought I'd try to help them, since the newbie tribe needs to stick together. Thank you again, and thank you for the lesson in PII management. Got it! Bdcousineau (talk) 12:47, 24 October 2012 (UTC)[reply]

I haven't heard anything, I'll try emailing again. Banaticus (talk) 22:10, 22 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you! I emailed too, and got nothing. I appreciate you being available, in any case! Bdcousineau (talk) 17:12, 23 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Dragonlance characters[edit]

Hi Banaticus, I hope you have been having a good year. BOZ has revived our discussion about Dragonlance characters here. I thought you might be interested in participating, since you expressed an interest back in February. Neelix (talk) 00:37, 29 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]

I have been having a good year, thanks. :) I responded about Dragonlance at Talk:List_of_Dragonlance_characters#Goldmoon_and_Raistlin. Banaticus (talk) 06:53, 29 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]
