Bodega Bay

Thank you for your note! Yeah it is a kind of "cute" template, isn't it? It looks like it was made up by User:IRP in October 2008. I saw another editor use it on a talk page and made a note of it on the page where I keep track of useful templates and such User:Ahunt/Tags. Google Chrome OS Security

Thanks for fixing up the para I added, I think your version is better than my original! I thought the article was interesting enough to cite, although one oddity is the mention of the "developer switch". This tends to indicate that the OS will only fully run on specialized hardware as this switch would not be present on any old netbook. It would be interesting to find more on this, as, to me at least, it tends to point towards some sort of attempt to lock in the OS to certain hardware, at least to gain full functionality. I know you have Chromium OS, can the dev mode be turned on some other way? - Ahunt (talk) 13:40, 9 March 2010 (UTC)

Well that is how collaboration is supposed to work - someone writes something and then the next editor makes it better (and not worse)! I agree the "dev switch" is odd, and, as I mentioned, makes me think of hardware lock-in. The fact that the article I cited says "The first Google Netbook, expected out later this year, is intended for use by consumers. However, Google is looking at developing a somewhat different version for the enterprise which would have functionality, especially in management, that businesses might prefer" is probably significant and should go in the article somewhere. I reverted your revert for Joli OS. I made sure to perform small changes as you can see in the revision history: description, screenshot, additionnal information, etc... My goal is only to correct mistakes and add more information.

The new version is far more relevant and up-to-date but I would be happy to edit what's considered as un-encylopedic language.

Google Chrome OS

We have yet another well meaning person who has changed all the version numbers for Google Chrome OS to browser version numbers and cited the Google browser blog as a ref. The discussion is here. Once again correcting this has been stymied by Google not publishing the current OS version numbers anywhere other than on a Chromebook itself. Even though I have shown that he is citing the wrong refs he won't remove the offending text and I have already done two reverts on this. Can you have a look. An actual listing of Chrome OS versions would be ideal if you can locate it or have access to it, because I don't. - Ahunt (talk) 15:02, 19 May 2012 (UTC)

"The Chrome OS"

Hi, I am the one who corrected the sentence "A Chromebook is a personal computer running the Google Chrome OS operating system." to A Chromebook is a personal computer running the Google Chrome OS." I don't see the reason for reverting it back to it's old version. The term "Operating System" in short is OS, so I deemed the redundancy of that sentence unnecessary. I'll reply here.

The Wikimedia Foundation is partnering up with the Noun Project to run the first-ever Wikipedia Iconathon on April 6th at WMF headquarters, and you're invited!

What is an Iconathon: An iconathon is a co-design process where Wikimedia staff, the user community, and a few graphic designers collaboratively discuss what symbols could best represent a concept for an icon – for example, what's the best icon for New Editor, Revert or Oversight? Sketches will be converted into high fidelity icons by Noun Project graphic designers, and will be released under a free license for use by anyone on the Internet. Help build the free encyclopedia icon set that anyone in the world can share and reuse!

Logistics: The event runs from 10:30 am to 4:30 pm on April 6th at the Wikimedia Foundation office in San Francisco. Follow the signs at the door! We'll have plenty of paper and pens/pencils for sketching.

Article Feedback Tool update

Hey Barte. I'm contacting you because you're involved in the Article Feedback Tool in some way, either as a previous newsletter recipient or as an active user of the system. As you might have heard, a user recently anonymously disabled the feedback tool on 2,000 pages. We were unable to track or prevent this due to the lack of logging feature in AFT5. We're deeply sorry for this, as we know that quite a few users found the software very useful, and were using it on their articles.

We've now re-released the software, with the addition of a logging feature and restrictions on the ability to disable. Obviously, we're not going to automatically re-enable it on each article—we don't want to create a situation where it was enabled by users who have now moved on, and feedback would sit there unattended—but if you're interested in enabling it for your articles, it's pretty simple to do. Just go to the article you want to enable it on, click the "request feedback" link in the toolbox in the sidebar, and AFT5 will be enabled for that article.

Chromebook

Not constructive? Please, do tell. I standardized according to pages like https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/MacBook and https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ultrabook . (Talk page lurker) - Um, check your edit. You deleted the infobox, the lead that explained what he subject is about, the reflist, all the categories and in fact 3/4 of the article. I'm so impressed that you started the Laurie Halsey Brown article for the edit-a-thon. I went back and searched the SFPL's online databases, and there are some sources you may want to use, like a couple of issues of Art in America and a piece in The Village Voice ("Lost and found" by Karen Rosenberg, 12/2001, Volume 46, Issue 50). You can read it online if you have an SFPL library card, and if you don't have a card, you can get a library card if you're a resident of California. Hope this helps. Jolicloud

Hello,

I would like to restore the article for Jolicloud. It currently redirects to Joli OS. But Joli OS is only one of the Jolicloud products. People who are looking for info about Jolicloud as a company are misleaded because of this redirection.

I agree with you that the company situation wasn't clear 2 years ago when the rediction has been made. But now, things are clear: https://www.jolicloud.com/our-story Of course, the article should be updated with encylopedic language.

Finally, no doubt the company is notable. Its product Joli OS is notable as one of the first cloud operating systems. And everyone already agree on that. Its other product Jolibook was one of the first cloud computers alongside the Chromebook. And many articles cover the products Jolicloud Me, Drive and Library released during the past 2 years. Those articles can be used as references to update the Jolicloud entry.

VisualEditor update
