Questions[edit]

I find myself with an odd (though admittedly minor) set of dilemmas over a page edit. Avalanche (band) describes a Norwegian musical group of relatively recent vintage, but I also know Avalanche to have been an American soul/R&B band from Florida that had a couple of minor hits in the 1970s. My problems (and I'm doubtless overthinking it):

  • I cannot find a historical Billboard soul/R&B chart from 1977 to verify the two songs I personally know to have broken #100 on that chart and source the chart placements for an article.
  • If and when I do (thus satisfying at least my own feelings about notability), do I create a new page and start trying to figure out the relevant page-naming conventions, or is it actually more appropriate to add a note to the existing page indicating that there was another, albeit less noteworthy, band of the same name in Florida in the 1970s? The sourcing issue is a problem I can't help you with; if you know when those songs charted, maybe a visit to a library and a study of archived back issues of Billboard may help?
If the American band is notable, the way forward is to create Avalanche (American band) and possibly move the current article to Avalanche (Norwegian band), turning the current title at Avalanche (band) into a disambiguation page. Each article should have but a single topic, and unless there's a connection between the two bands beyond the same name, people interested in the Norwegian band won't be aided by a note on the American band, while people interested in the American band likely won't read an article on the Norwegian band in hopes of finding a note at the end. Thank you kindly! I only know the year, 1977, so I've got a bit of a task ahead, but a finite one at least. I truly appreciate your sensible clarification of the article and naming issues! Beeeej (talk) 23:04, 16 November 2017 (UTC)[reply]
