Template:Infobox settlement[edit]

I noticed that you added the flag icon in the fields for "subdivision_name" on the Leavenworth, Washington article. Please note that Wikipedia consensus is that the flag icons should not be used within those fields, which is why the examples for the template at {{Infobox settlement}} explicitly state not to use flags in those fields. --- Barek (talkcontribs) - 04:26, 24 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Please see the discussion at http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Template_talk:Infobox_settlement#flag_icons_and_templates_in_subdivision_name_.28and_subdivision_name1_through_subdivision_name6.29 and voice your thoughts. I'd say a bot should go through and fix this everywhere as I can find thousands of cities doing it wrong ATM. Also I believe further discussion as to whether the flag is appropriate or not is needed. --ben_b (talk) 06:22, 24 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for the link, I hadn't been aware of the discussion. I'll take a look and add my thoughts. --- Barek (talkcontribs) - 15:12, 24 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]

NCAA football rankings template[edit]

I really like the template you designed. I have a comment, though. Due to quirks of the calendar, not every season has the same number of weeks. See the 2004 season for example: 2004 NCAA Division I-A football rankings. That year, we would need to have 17 columns (preseason, weeks 1-15, and final ranking). Also, due to periodic changes, when the Harris Poll is released changes some years. In 2009, the Harris poll came out in Week 4 (2009 NCAA Division I FBS football rankings).

Would it be possible to make the template flexible to deal with these quirks? The 2013 season will once again need 17 columns. And who knows when the Harris Poll will change again. Thanks for your hard work and your contribution to the improvement of college football articles! —Ute in DC (talk) 21:06, 4 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Can you leave these comments on the talkpage for the template and I will see what I can do? Leaving the comments there will allow others to chime in and/or work towards improving the template based on posted feature requests.--ben_b (talk) 01:25, 5 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Barnstar[edit]

The Running Man Barnstar
I award you, Ben b, the Running Man Barnstar in recognition of your fine contributions to College football articles and your creation of the Template:NCAA Division I FBS football rankings. The template will improve many articles. —Ute in DC (talk) 01:53, 7 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks! Glad I was able to make a useful template! I'd love to expend it to include other sports. --ben_b (talk) 08:15, 7 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Template:NCAA Division I FBS football rankings[edit]

Nice work on {{NCAA Division I FBS football rankings}}. Is there a chance that it could be generalized for basketball (and possibly other sports) and for cases when you only have one poll? I.E., could you make it so that something like the following resulted in a valid template?

{{NCAA Division I FBS football rankings
| finalpollweek = 15
| AP_pre = RV
| AP_1 = RV
| AP_2 = RV
| AP_3 = 22
| AP_4 = 19
| AP_5 = 12
| AP_6 = 11
| AP_7 = 18
| AP_8 = 17
| AP_9 = 13
| AP_10 = 22
| AP_11 = 20
| AP_12 = 17
| AP_13 = 17
| AP_14 = 13
| AP_15 =
}}

Also can you add three features.

  1. Add the option to pipe row headings to the polls
  2. Add a poll size field so that the row headings can be piped like [[AP Poll|AP Top 10 Poll]] (note that in some years the AP and Coaches poll have had different sizes.)
  3. Add a ref field so that I can add a reference to the row heading.

See 1966–67_Princeton_Tigers_men's_basketball_team#Rankings to see what I am trying to do.--TonyTheTiger (T/C/BIO/WP:CHICAGO/WP:FOUR) 18:44, 6 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]

More information needed about File:Red Electric Map.jpg[edit]

Hello, Ben b!

It was really helpful of you to you to upload File:Red Electric Map.jpg. However, we need to properly format the image license information in order to keep and use new images.

If you can edit the description and add one of these templates, that would be great. If you're not sure how or would like some help, please ask us at the media copyright questions page and we'll be happy to assist you.

Thanks again! --ImageTaggingBot (talk) 09:05, 8 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]

CBSB Standings[edit]

Ben, thanks for your work on the CBSB Standings, it's something I've had in the back of my mind for a while now, getting tired of converting from CBB to CFB as soon as there are ties! I added ties to the two required templates, and I see already that they work on two current year templates - {{2012 Southwestern Athletic Conference baseball standings}} and {{2012 Southern Conference baseball standings}}. Thanks again! Billcasey905 (talk) 23:03, 9 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Problem with length templates you edited...[edit]

All eight of the Str Letter and Str Number templates that you added the example with a reference to (either directly or by transclusion) now include the message "Cite error: There are <ref> tags on this page, but the references will not show without a {{Reflist}} template or a <references /> tag". Please change your examples to remove this. My suggestion would be adding nowiki tags outside the ref tags on the right hand sides, but I'm fine with changing the example from using <ref> to another tag. Naraht (talk) 03:00, 10 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]

I'll try and add {{reflist}} to them. The whole point is to show the error when passing a string that contains a <ref>. Perhaps the template should call nowiki on its input strings. --ben_b (talk) 03:25, 10 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Cool, Thank you. At first I thought the template had a ref stuck in it which would be really ugly.Naraht (talk) 00:49, 11 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Try {{Template reference list}}, it shows a reflist on the template's page without separating references on a page it is transcluded on. Billcasey905 (talk) 01:03, 11 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Replaceable fair use File:Beaver sports radio network.png[edit]

Thanks for uploading File:Beaver sports radio network.png. I noticed the description page specifies that this media item is being used under a claim of fair use, but its use in Wikipedia articles fails the first non-free content criterion in that it illustrates a subject for which a freely licensed media item could be found or created that provides substantially the same information or which could be adequately covered with text alone. If you believe this media item is not replaceable, please:

  1. Go to the file description page and edit it to add {{di-replaceable fair use disputed}}, without deleting the original replaceable fair use template.
  2. On the file discussion page, write the reason why this media item is not replaceable at all.

Alternatively, you can also choose to replace this non-free media item by finding freely licensed media of the same subject, requesting that the copyright holder release this (or similar) media under a free license, or by creating new media yourself (for example, by taking your own photograph of the subject).

If you have uploaded other non-free media, consider checking that you have specified how these media fully satisfy our non-free content criteria. You can find a list of description pages you have edited by clicking on this link. Note that even if you follow steps 1 and 2 above, non-free media which could be replaced by freely licensed alternatives will be deleted 2 days after this notification (7 days if uploaded before 13 July 2006), per the non-free content policy. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. VernoWhitney (talk) 19:20, 16 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Regarding your comment, the good reason was that the use of a non-free logo in an annual article such as a team's season is a violation of our non-free content policy. In particular, see WP:NFC#UUI point 14. Please let me know if you have any questions about this. VernoWhitney (talk) 23:41, 20 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]
