Impossible-to-find Cantonese vegetable

Hi, I just saw a vegetable listed in a Vietnamese cookbook with a Cantonese-sounding name of suit-nei-hoong. The cookbook is bilingual so the Vietnamese translation given for this vegetable is "cải dưa" (literally "melon cabbage." A Google search turns up only 2 hits for this romanization, one of which is a HK menu that gives 雪菜 (Mandarin "xue cai." Any idea what the hanzi for "suit-nei-hoong" is? We may need an article on it. I really don't have any more concrete info to add unfortunately. As I went through who knows how many English text before I can prove it is even reference-able. English readers can find some reading attempts at this site. But given the Communist situations, I don't know how much of it has been properly analyzed. Tiananmen square immolation incident

Hi. I just tagged the sentence on propaganda in the PRC regarding this incident as staged or somehow fake as dubious because it lacks citations and wanted to give you a friendly notice. Since you're apparently the person who added the statement, would you know where reliable citations regarding that claim can be found? Alternatively, checking the main page on the controversy turns up a bunch of controversy and it might be better to refer readers there to maintain neutrality. Please do not remove these tags. It is not a way to avoid deletion of an article, nor to indicate that a potential problem has been resolved. The tag clearly states "If you don't want the file deleted, please provide explanatory information about the copyright status of this image. Please do not remove this notice while the question is being considered." In much the same way as AfDs, these are to draw attention to a debate listed centrally, so removal could potentially stifle debate - both arguments for or against. Well, you do seem to know what you're talking about. It gave me a thought -- most of us non-Asians see Asian spiritual artifacts mostly when we visit Asian-owned places of business -- there will be a shrine on the floor with incense and a snack for the bodhisattvas, a jade frog with a coin in its mouth, and a gilt statue of Ho Tei. I know that if I rub Ho Tei's stomach, I immediately become a favored customer. (And I know why, and I do it to be friendly, not to mock.) An article about these objects might be a good thing. Sorry about removing "Danjia dialect" from "List of Chinese dialects"

Hi, sorry about that. I wasn't vandalising, I was trying to clean up the Yue table. It was very messy, dialect families were misplaced, names were wrong, transliterations were wrong. I have now made them all standard pinyin transliterations. I did my research from the "Yue Language Dialects" page in the Chinese Wikipedia (here, http://zh.wikipedia.org/wiki/粵語方#.E7.96.8D.E5.AE.B6.E8.A9.B1). The wording is a bit too much. Don't you think to say "The most reliable account" raises some questions when it is the same example used again and again by pro-Beijing political groups? Since you are not looking for 3rd party sources to support this as "most reliable", can you at least reword it please. 1. reproduce them
2. transliterate them (Chiang Hung?)
3. translate them if possible

I feel we may have got off to a bad start on the Chinese orthography pages. I apologise. You are obviously passionate about the subject and put a great deal of effort into these pages. 1.) Yeah first you need to find a picture that is "self-taken". For example this image is taken with a Canon branded camera. Without the camera data, the image may be scanned from a magazine etc and violate licenses. So please find one with a camera data. So it won't be good.

2.) Afterwards the picture must use a specific license. These are good. Everything else is not good for wikipedia.

Nope. If you look on this page for example, you can filter it by licenses. The first one and last one is acceptable for wikipedia. Very few pictures use the right license. I usually send a flickmail to people, asking them to change licenses. Benjwong (talk) 04:33, 21 January 2008 (UTC)

It is non-commercial today. But if they sold wikipedia DVD in the future then the picture will not be allowed. Believe me, I had to learn the hard way. If you use this web script, it won't even let you upload with that license. Alot of people on flickr assume that license is ok. But it is not, to my understanding. Nope that license does not work for Joe. Please see #2 above. It has to be BY or BY-SA. The "public" only means you can see it in public. Also there are alot of websites that can generate pinyin and jyutping. I can do this one, it would be helpful if we can find people to put it in templates. All the computer programs and translation sites say 彫 is the traditional. But shouldn't that be "Ancient traditional"? I see random people use it over the web, so I can't tell if it is entirely phased out. At least we both agree it is part japanese. What I am trying to see is whether all software programs are making a mistake. That there is no simplification. And 雕 is the same everywhere for traditional and simplified. Hmmmm, the recent scandal about Gillian Chung, Bobo Chan, Cecilia Cheung and Edison Chen has hit hard in Hong Kong and people are pouring in to edit thier pages. I know its real and stuff and after seeing those photos personally, even I could dismiss the artists claims of photoshopping and doctoring. After that, a news report said the police have CAUGHT a person who stole "an artist's" (edison) personal computer, and charge him for stealing and defamation etc etc. Which made me believe it more so. Anyway, how can we put all this into appropiate words and how on earth are we supposed to find references? All digital cameras do it automatically. Take a picture, then upload it to computer. If you don't touchup with photoshop or other graphic software, it will keep the camera data. Because this is a celebrity picture, it probably matters. See how this image has camera data at the bottom. Sorry for being picky, but you are very close. The source says "A staff member, who refused to reveal her name, at Baidu's public affairs department said the company was asked to make an apology yesterday, however, the authorities haven't made decision yet." Nowhere does it say that the female staff member was responsible for posting the pictures on the site, like you wrote. If indeed that's the part of the source you are referring to, I think the line "An u(n)named female staff member at Baidu posted the images" would be incorrect. The whole criticism of Baidu is that they did not do enough to stop the spread of the images (ie did not take them down as soon as they were posted), which is quite different from saying an employee put them up on the site. 1. The appeared on 22 February statement I put in, does not mean the photo appeared "for the first time" on 22 February. It just means on that particular date 22 February. That is how I interpreted it. May be I should have said "on that particular date".
2. The viewed 20 million times a day statement should be right. To me this still sounds logical. If WSG was at 28 million days ago, it would not surprise me if it is being viewed that 20 million times daily since. Most likely they were referring to different pictures on that site. Reincarnation is a concept that is present in many religions - Hinduism, Jainism, Sikhism, Buddhism, Taoism etc. My objection is because this userbox is promoting a concept that is superstition. Anyone can tell their religious stance, but to mention a particular view...no. For example one can say through userbox "This user opposes Iraq war", but it will not be appropriate to say "This user opposes killing of US forces in Iraq". One can say "This user support the independence of Tibet". But it will not be appropriate to say "This user support the killing of Chinese troops deployed in Tibet". These comparison are not same in this case. I am just trying to simplify the logic. You have particularly chosen a view, a concept of some religions which is directly promoting superstition. This is not fact. For starters if a product is NOT pirated, and is legit mainstream.... it will not have simplified characters in HK. If it does have simplified characters, it will be specified exactly as mainland version. This goes for real CDs, movies, products. Can you name a movie made in the last five years or so in HK or Taiwan, for which there is no simplified version (sold officially, not pirated)? The same applies to these products off the shelf in Australia. Looking at your profile, I see it's no use to discuss this with you one to one, will have to get more attention from other users.

Sorry I still don't think you are understanding. Ok I just said what you see online stores is not an accurate depiction of what is sold in HK. And then you mention US Amazon.com right back. That kind of completely ignored everything I said. Let me re-explain. First off China does all the CD sealing and minting in their factories. They can do whatever they want. That part is fact. Though on a normal day everything in HK is traditional chinese, that goes for 99% of the products. If it is available in simplified chinese, the CD/movie is immediately classified as "mainland China" version and it is often 25 to 40% cheaper because of it. These products are almost treated like mis-prints. For you to tell everyone HK offer simplified char products is almost an insult if you know what I am trying to say. Movie 無間道/无间道 ("Infernal Affairs") sold in HK? Does this help? As Mandarin is important for selling these type of products to a broader range of customers, so is the inclusion of the simplified characters.

What was the topic about? PRC citizens are exposed to TC because they watch HK/Taiwan movies? What was my addition about? It's not the case in the last years, since HK and Taiwan add SC. Where's the insult? You don't consider inclusion of English as an insult to the Chinese culture? List of Chinese Cuisine Names

I started the list of Chinese cuisine names as it was mentioned on the China Project to-do list. It has many problems and is just a start. I've only done some Anhui dishes and most of the Cantonese that are in Wikipedia. While putting it together I saw all your great work on Cantonese and Hong Kong food. You must be a foodie. Partial revert of both editors at China - something in-between?

Hi. I saw your revert at China and your summary "Beijing olympics takes place in the PRC." Okay, but there were more links that had been added by XdarkchaotixX's revert and original edits back in 21 March. Somehow I feel that if Chinese Dragon can be in the "See Also" then surely Chinese language should be also. I looked and there was only one link to Chinese language from the article - amazing! Err, the Olympics thing is just one time, but the language is long-term and important, yes? Would you review my partial revert and see if one or more of the other three additions can stay or go?
