Welcome![edit]

Hello, BeshitoLand, and welcome to Wikipedia! My name is Shalor and I work with the Wiki Education Foundation; I help support students who are editing as part of a class assignment.

I hope you enjoy editing here. If you haven't already done so, please check out the student training library, which introduces you to editing and Wikipedia's core principles. You may also want to check out the Teahouse, a community of Wikipedia editors dedicated to helping new users. Below are some resources to help you get started editing.

Notes[edit]

Hi! I have some notes on your draft:

  • I re-wrote the lead to fit Wikipedia's Manual of Style guidelines for lead sections.
  • Make sure to avoid phrases like "well known" since those tend to subjective terms. Although yes, Kahlo is well known, she may not be well known to everyone. What's well known to one is obscure to another. On a related note, you also want to avoid anything that could be seen as a judgment call or opinion as well.
To this end, any content that comments on the themes, intent, or quality of something should be backed up with a reliable source that explicitly makes the claim and attributed to the person making the claim.
  • You used a wiki as a source for this, namely EcuRed. The issue with this site is that anyone can sign up and edit a page. Although some of the site's pages are protected, this doesn't mean that the site will be a reliable source as the nature of wikis like this mean that it's not going to go through the type and depth of coverage needed to be seen as a reliable source. As such, it shouldn't be used as a source at all.
Something else to note about this site is that EcuRed uses the license CC BY-NC-SA, which means that while users can adapt and share the work as long as they use the same license, they cannot use it for commercial purposes. As such, make sure that you're not using any translations of this site in the article. (Lists of works and job titles are fine, since there's no way to re-write those, but prose about the director's past wouldn't be usable.)
  • Now as far as sourcing in general goes, make sure that you avoid self-published blog sources as not all blogs will undergo the type of editorial oversight needed to be considered a reliable source. In order to use sources like this we would have to show where the source is routinely cited as a reliable source by other reliable sources, especially academic and scholarly sources. It's definitely good to be cautious with sourcing in general as in many cases sites don't always say who wrote something or the type of editorial oversight the site uses.
  • The citations need to be made in-line, as the reader needs to be able to tell what source backs up which claim. Also, the book citations need to specify the page number.

These should be fixed before the page is moved live. Shalor (Wiki Ed) (talk) 18:16, 14 November 2019 (UTC)[reply]

  • Another note - if you're using a source within the article it doesn't need to be in a further reading section, as it's already in the article. Shalor (Wiki Ed) (talk) 18:27, 14 November 2019 (UTC)[reply]

November 2019[edit]

Information icon Please do not move a page to a title that is harder to follow, or move it unilaterally against naming conventions or consensus. This includes making page moves while a discussion remains underway. We have some guidelines to help with deciding what title is best for a subject. If you would like to experiment with page titles and moving, please use the test Wikipedia. Thank you. CambridgeBayWeather, Uqaqtuq (talk), Sunasuttuq 15:58, 21 November 2019 (UTC)[reply]
