Preview[edit]

It is recommended that you use the preview button before you save; this helps you find any errors you have made, and prevents clogging up recent changes and the page history.SoothingR 17:03, 1 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

QUOTE
Yes thanks for your suggestion - I shall do that for sure. And, I also convey my New Year greetings to you. --Bhadani 17:08, 1 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Dear Tim please see my above comments. Yesterday I thought over the matter as regards the issues raised by you, and analyzed my edits. I found that I have been generally using preview before saving. I understand that the concept of preview is applicable edit-wise, and each edit should be preferably previewed. Thus, there may be repeated edits by the same user of the same page, which may appear to create "clutter" in the history – but actually it is indicative of the activities on that particular page as also edits to that particular page by that particular user. In my opinion, the edits are not quantifiable: I mean to say that no one should expect that a user shall do edit to a particular page only once in a day or so on: thus if one is making massive additions to contents, and endeavoring to improve the contents, he/she will have to repeatedly do edits, of course use of preview is implied.
I may add that at times I have created pages with several paragraphs in one go Sri Padmanabhaswamy temple and Indian rope trick – but it is not always possible. In case, you find examples of creating a page of several paragraphs by other fellow editors, please inform me: I would surely like to inter-act with him/her to hone my editing skills.
As regards your point about cluttering the recent changes by repeated edits, I think that activities by editors, unless they are known vandals, should not be termed as “clutter” as activities on the recent changes are indicative of aggregate edits, and more edits add more value to “the sum total of human knowledge” for which we are striving. I may give an example: 100 edits by a single user to a single page, or 100 edits by 100 different users to the same page, have the same "net effect" of "clutter" on the page's history and the recent changes. The environment here is dynamic - not like a printed page, and one has to get used to this environment - faster the better.
Having clarified my position, I appreciate the spirit of your suggestion, and express my thanks to you. I also assure you that I shall surely continue to use preview. Regards. --Bhadani 14:11, 2 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

UNQUOTE

Yes, I've read both your and Ancheta Wis' comments on my talkpage. Thanks for the explanation. It's always nice to hear things from another perspective, that can free your mind. I will stop using Template:preview for all users that have more than 4 edits in a row, I will however look at the nature of these edits. If the first edit comes up with a broken template, and the other 4 fixes were intended to fix that, I think Template:preview will still serve its job. Thanks for the thorough explanation.SoothingR 17:45, 2 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Fish Oil Blog[edit]

Why remove fishoilblog.com ? As a nutrition enthusiast, this is one of my favorite sites for fish oil news. I see no legitimate reason to remove it. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 72.3.245.226 (talkcontribs)

We are here for writing an encyclopedia – and this place is to be used in conformity with the general policies – I do not have anything against your personal choice, you may view your blog without that being a part of wikipedia. --Bhadani 16:23, 3 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Informative, educational external websites are an integral part of wikipedia, and Fish Oil Blog is definitely that. Blocking AOL IP numbers[edit]

Please be aware that when you block rotating IP numbers used by AOL you are unlikely to hit your target vandal. This IP number has been placed on "the list" of rotating proxy numbers which should not be blocked. I am a registered user on Wiki, and am often hit by such blocks. Please see my user page User:WBardwin/AOL Block Collection for a history of these events and related discussions. I would appreciate a prompt release of this block. Thank you. Big hello out to Chennai![edit]

Hi Bhadani, just want to say thanks for your support of my RfA! I am now an admin, and will do my best to be as useful to Wikipedia as possible. If there is any way I can ever help you out, please let me know. I live in Ireland, but I was in Tamil Nadu once. Traffic congestion[edit]

Hi Bhadani! I wonder if the anon edit at Traffic congestion might be retained on the basis that it seems to be relevant and constructive and we shouldn't WP:BITE? [1] It will be deleted or modified by the regular editors to the article over time as necessary. BTW, thank you for your vandal patrol work. It is an invaluable part of our work here. Best wishes, Walter Siegmund (talk) 16:39, 7 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you for the your response and the kind words. On another subject, I notice that you occasionally edit Hindu topics. I wonder if you would mind putting Adi Shankara on your watch list. If you could review the section, Shankara's dates, occasionally, that would be very helpful, too. It attracts attention from some POV pushers that mostly edit anonymously. User:Mel Etitis used to do this, but he is inactive now. I don't have the background or the interest to do more than watch grammar and superficial content. Best wishes, Walter Siegmund (talk) 17:21, 7 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Your help with Adi Shankara will be most appreciated. I'll thank you for watching my edits too. Best wishes, Walter Siegmund (talk) 06:46, 8 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

subst[edit]

When using template tags on talk pages, don't forget to substitute with text by adding subst: to the template tag. For example, use {{subst:test}} instead of {{test}}. This reduces server load and prevents accidental blanking of the template.

Heads-up[edit]

Hi, just noticed that you awarded the butterfly barnstar to User:Siddiqui. Can you also keep a watch on him or counsel him to not push POV? I've noticed several discussions on WP:INWNB about his unilateral replacement of "Indian sub-continent" to "South Asia." Thanks a ton, --Gurubrahma 10:37, 11 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks Bhadani for taking the pain of counselling in the matter. --ΜιĿːtalk 12:25, 11 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]
I love butterflies and had a collection before coming to North America for studies. There are many countries in South Asia and few, especially Pakistan, prefer not to use "Indian Subcontinent". I am really sorry that changed the name to "South Asia" and caused trouble to anybody. I may have been insensitve and inconsiderate. But the same you have to clarify that whether why the term "Indian Subcontinent" is more preferable to "South Asia". Same kind of butterflies are found in this geographical area.
Siddiqui 00:45, 13 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

My reply copied and pasted from his page: Dear Siddiqui, I understand the sensitivity of the matter, and I think that the use of these words (South Asia and Indian subcontinent shall depend on the context. Thanks for your frank reply. This is an issue, which will continue to be debated endlessly, and perhaps shall never be resolved to the satisfaction of all concerned. But, after all History is History, Geography is Geography, and Politics is Politics, and accordingly, in my opinion, the use of these terms may be taken into the context when the same is being used. Now, let us forget the debate which shall continue perhaps for decades, and concentrate on building the Project wikipedia. Happy editing ! (Bhadani)

Protecting anon talk pages[edit]

Recently you vprotected User talk:195.194.131.172. Can I ask why? In most cases when an anon is removing warnings after being blocked, we apply semiprotection...not full protection. Full protection made it so that nobody other than admins could leave warnings when the anon returned and began vandalizing. I also didn't see a listing for it on protected pages. The page is unprotected at the moment by User:KillerChihuahua (tho still protected against moves for some odd reason). --Syrthiss 16:30, 18 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

In case you go through the history of the page you will find that repeatedly someone was removing all the requests to refrain from vandalizing, and from that IP a series of useless edits were coming at that point of time. Under the circumstances a protection was initiated. I missed to report this at the proper place. You will appreciate that sometimes certain actions are required, and rules get broken, and the policy also recognizes this. Please watch that page and IP as this appears necessary to safeguard the interests of genuine users. By the way, I am an administrator for last 4 months, and have used blocks only rarely, and that too for last 10/15 days. Perhaps, I may decide to stop using it at all, as it is creating a lot of stress to me and several other users have challenged the blocks without going into the merit of the same. --Bhadani 16:48, 18 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]
I have watched that page for a bit, since I think I placed a block on that user earlier. I didn't mean to place you under stress, I just was asking why full protection vs semiprotection, as semiprotection would have stopped them from removing warnings but allowed other registered user vandal fighters to place new warnings. I actually wouldn't have changed the protection on the page until I checked with you, but as I said other admins went around it. In any case, don't worry about it. --Syrthiss 17:39, 18 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Your edit was perhaps "nothing here" [2]. And, after that some "bla bla" was from IP ( 24.180.62.116 ) - "bla bla" can be called "bla bla" only. It is really great that you had made 1000 edits, and I am sure that you will continue to make much more edits. On my part, there was no "cover-up". I reverted, and then also removed "nothing here" as it was of no significance, and the "bla bla" was not for "nothing here", but for the edits from 24.180.62.116. Do you feel that all talk pages on wikepedia having no contents should have a message "nothing here"? Such edits may be called free style of editing without any value edition to wikepedia. It is a collaborative project, and environment here is dynamic, and even better edits than "nothing here" are liable to be replaced by still better or worse edits. You are not new, and you are sure that you understand the environment here. Still, I suggest you to take a user name for identification, though it is not essential. there is a category Category:Omega Psi Phi brothers that I created and I added the pictures from each members article to this page. Someone has removed all the gallery saying that the picture should not be posted in the category. I sent the contributor (who's only know by his IP addresss) an note for discussion. Can you help by contacting this contributor and/or verifying if the posting a gallery in a category violates wikipedia policy. thanks Ccson 06:17, 23 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Protection.[edit]

Hi, Can you pleas tell me how I can get an article of mine protected after it has been abused many times yet allowing me to update it periodically? — Preceding unsigned comment added by 134.146.0.41 (talkcontribs)

To begin with, I suggest that you take a user name. --Bhadani 14:37, 23 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Sorry, I forgot to log-in.

Anyway, I really hope you can help as the page is being perverted.

It is for the : Oxford University Conservative Association - OUCA. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Oxfordundergraduate (talkcontribs)

Please tell me the page name. I feel protection may not be required as it is the last thing which is advisable in a free environment which wikipedia gives to all. Please keep patience, whoever is vandalizing the page shall get tired and go away. --Bhadani 14:48, 23 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

This is the page:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/OUCA

However, there is a large group of people destroying the page, not just one so I douub this problem will go away unfortunately, is there anyway in which I can be given access or anyother way in which it can be protected but still updated every week or so please? — Preceding unsigned comment added by Oxfordundergraduate (talkcontribs)

Nicholas[edit]

Hi,

You reverted a correction i made to 'Nicholas'

under 'Diminutive forms'; under 'English'

Nick should read USUALLY Male; and Nic should read usually FEMALE

Don't know why you reverted it. Please contact me at nick_gooding@hotmail.com to explain why you thought this nessessary.

Kind regards

Sandeep Munde[edit]

Hi Bhadani, I have speedy deleted the above under WP:CSD, clause A7. It is totally justified as it doesn't assert the significance of the subject. I also guess that the contributor was the subject himself, 'coz his username is User:Sanmunde. I could have probably userfied it but considering that the user has made only one edit (that being the deleted article itself; he seems to have edited his user page as an anon in August, but we can't be sure), I felt that it would be unconscionable to create another subpage to his userpage. I usually do not like to take such stuff for AFD because it is a waste of time for other editors as well and takes us away further from our goal of building an encyclopedia. I view AFDs and CSDs as necessary evils in that context. Oh, just saw your new msg. when I put this msg. in preview mode before sending; thanks a ton for your compliments. --Gurubrahma 16:13, 23 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I would be on a wiki-break from coming wednesday till the next tuesday. I was wondering if we should nominate some Bharat Ratnas for INCOTW. When I joined WP, there were no articles for Pandurang Vaman Kane, Aruna Asaf Ali and Purushottam Das Tandon - so, I researched and created them. But some of the other articles such as Dhondo Keshav Karve and Kamaraj are in a bad shape. I believe that articles about Bharat Ratnas and people in Category:Padma Vibhushan awardees must be improved because a) they are in a bad shape; b) they are among the most respected Indians of the current generation and hence articles on them should be good; and c) as they are famous, lot of info about them is easily available on the net. I also wish that we had some one working regularly on current affairs; for example, we still do not have an article on Operation Duryodhan which has led to expulsion of 11 MPs. --Gurubrahma 16:31, 23 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

the correct logo does not include the full name in the bottom - just the acronym to the right. Can u fix that?

FAC[edit]

Hello Bhadaniji,

I wanted to let you know that after a very productive peer review, the Political integration of India is an FA nominee. I hope this is not inappropriate, but I ask that you spare a bit of your time to consider the work and give it an up or down vote as you see fit. Rama's Arrow 04:20, 24 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Respected friend, could you look at this page and that of Wellness (alternative medicine) and the associated talk pages and, if convenient and desirable to you, add your views? Apologies in advance if this is an inconvenience -- maybe we can chat about why I find this important. Something to do with systemic bias in Wikipedia. --Smithfarm 14:49, 24 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

The issue has been resolved amicably! This was my "territorial protection instinct" kicking in and causing trouble. But I do call your attention to a question I raised for discussion at Talk:Interdisciplinarity#Thoughts on interdisciplinarity/holism. --Smithfarm 18:42, 24 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Hello Bhadaniji, if you have time, please take a look at this article which I've worked to expand. I need your advice and opinions. subst[edit]

When using template tags on talk pages, don't forget to substitute with text by adding subst: to the template tag. For example, use {{subst:test}} instead of {{test}}. This reduces server load and prevents accidental blanking of the template.

Blahblahman[edit]

Hi. You left a welcome notice on User talk:Blahblahman, but the only edits of this user appear to be vandalism (creation of two hoax pages and vandalization of two other ones). It's just that the standard message says "Thank you for your contributions", which I think is not appropriate. - Liberatore(T) 13:56, 28 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for your concern. I am also aware of the matter: out of so many new users, some may turn out to be like the one you had pointed out. I know such users never deserve thanks, but when you are welcoming everyone, including sometimes the anonymous users, such aberrations are bound to happen. I find that some really nice users did not receive any welcome message for long. In my opinion, for few mischievous users, we should not stop welcoming the new users - the vandals can always be managed by the wiki-community, and the community should continue to welcome all. Yes, I will be more circumspect while posting the welcome message. --Bhadani 14:10, 28 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Hi,

Some recent edit on the Kozhikode article has made the article's heading to be read as Designed by Praveen kumar. Could do something to change that and replace it with the heading Kozhikode? Thanks Jisha C J

It has been done by me - such a move was made by some one with bad intention or inadvertantly. --Bhadani 14:16, 29 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Hai Bhadani.User:Praveenpoil moved Kozhikode page to Designed by praveen kumar. It was reverted by User:Kjrajesh my copying the contents of Designed by praveen kumar back into Kozhikode, instead of moving it back. I tried reverting Designed by praveen kumar and moving it back but it is not possible now as separate Kozhikode article exists. Can you please look into it. regards --Raghu 12:39, 29 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I tried moving Kozhikode to Kozhikode (delete). And then moving Designed by praveen kumar to Kozhikode. This did not work since the first move created a redirect page on Kozhikode. Sorry about this. Could you take a look? - Ganeshk (talk) 13:18, 29 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]
I have taken suitable measures to delete/move the pages as required. Now, Kozhikode (delete) will also have to be deleted. Please incorporate fresh inputs, if any, from this page into the Kozhikode pages. --Bhadani 13:48, 29 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks[edit]

Thank you for sorting out the Kozhikode issue. Kozhikode (delete) has the same contents as kozhikode so that, I hope would make things easier for deleting the Kozhikode (delete). Jisha C J 19:21, 29 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Great Work![edit]

I, deeptrivia award this Tireless Contributor Barnstar to Bhadani for making almost 5000 edits to wikipedia in January 2006. 21:52, 29 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

My response posted on his talk page:

"I thank you for awarding me the Tireless Contributor Barnstar - actually the award goes to the wiki-comunity as it is a collaborative Project. I humbly accept the recognition. I shall certainly love to contribute much more."

Kozhikode (delete)[edit]

Hi Bhadani,

I compared Kozhikode with Kozhikode (delete), you can safely delete "Kozhikode (delete)".

Best Regards
