F13 Sequel

Someone added that there will be a sequel to the new F13. I got rid of the section because there was no refs and like the halloween article if there is a sequel coming out it should go on the franchise page. maybe someone could look up on Shock til you drop if there is a sequel--Darkness2light (talk) 17:37, 28 February 2009 (UTC)

Michael Bay or one of the other producers stated in an interview with Ign that they were going to make the new F13 and a new Elm Street and then due to the battle between Freddy and Jason being in the end which disappointed the audience and fans they were going to re-do Freddy vs Jason with the battle taking place over the course of the movie. I'll look it up when I get the chance. As for New line, They are still around. The new F13 said New line in the opening as one of the distributors. also I believe it is only a small division of Warner bros similar to Dimension being a smaller division of Miramax.--Darkness2light (talk) 01:09, 1 March 2009 (UTC)

Notability (Fiction)

There seems to be some progress being made towards redrafting the guideline. Most of the arguments for a permissive guideline seem to have been countered in the sense that they have been found not to be viable. My attempts to obtain a compromise earlier this year seem to be leading towards a slightly stricter applciation of WP:V for fiction that should discourage topics which are only the subject of in universe plot summary, trivia and cruft. A recent post at WT:FICT#The rules seems to make this clear. Can you provide some cool and clear support towards drafting a compromise that is compliant with existing Wikipedia policies and guidelines? --Gavin Collins (talk) 19:14, 4 March 2009 (UTC)

We will just have to wait until the movie comes out. Well the kid is coming back as little michael and they may show more of his prison time. Unaltered Mask

one last thing. H2 is what the sequel is being called now. but you said to wait until they officially make a title. how will we know if it's official? Zombie or Akkad will announce it right? it seems like they are sticking with H2 for now. everything including Zombie is saying its called H2. I've ran into a problem with this. Apparently they did have mask problems with Halloween 4. IMDB said that they used the original mask. I just watched the DVD and it is a unaltered Captain Kirk mask. but now i'm back to the ref problem. Is it possible to use the DVD as a refrence? The Shatner mask is only in 5-8 seconds of the movie. To be specific it is right when Loomis and Jamie enter the school, Michael comes up behind them and throws loomis through a door. If you have ever seen what the unaltered version of the mask looks like you will notice it right away. I will listen to the commentary later. Michael Myers on Cold Case and Ghost Whisperer

I forgot to ask you about this, A few years ago I remember an episode of Cold Case had a "Halloween" killer in it. The movie came out and there was a copycat killing. Another thing is, last year there was a Ghost Whisperer episode about a college filmaker and he was using famous characters as methods to scare people. I remember a ref from CBS stating that Michael Myers was to appear in the Ghost Whisperer episode (there was a pic to.) Theres Youtube but its not anything we can use here because it's a video. the preview on CBS might have it in (but it is again a video) my computer is slow with videos so I can't tell if Michael is in it (it kinda looked like he was in the end). The cold Case episode will be easier to find due to it being a entire episode rather than a apearence. The cold case episode, could go on the Michael Myers page but it is more about the movie's effect on people (like the Halloween II murders) If i find a article about it you can look at it and decide. Sourcing

I deleted the "most of the audience is older men" from the Watchman page. You responded that some company does the exit polling.

a) How many theaters do they poll? b) What sample size are they using and what methodology did they use to determine that it's representative of a larger population. c) What defines an "older man"? d) Who pays them to do this? Does the payer have a vested interest in the results?

I.e the source is anecdotal garbage. Wikipedia should insist on standards that have integrity. Some private company hired to do a job and providing no info on their data or methodology does not make for a credible source.


Per your response...I initially removed the "grading" on my 1st edit...I DO have problems with quotes concerning box office numbers (the studio's have a vested interest in that number being as high as possible) and the fact that this company has been around for 25 years is meaningless...the fact is that Wikipedia is littered with these "sources" that would never be tolerated anywhere else...how "peer reviewed" is this company's results? (not at all)...I find it laughable that an "encyclopedia" allows statements like this...it's imprecise, unverifiable and distorts reality. What does "older men" even mean? Over 12? Over 80? Smallville - Hex

Since you apparently won't go and read it for yourself, here ya go, word for word the CW's "Official Press Release", as in the network themselves sent it to Kryptonsite and others to be published.

The point I was trying to make, which apparentl you never got, is MSN TV is not that reliable anymore. Kryptonsite has been more reliable for the past two season, more so then MSN.

Here's something that caught my eye a while back that proves to me, that Kryptonsite is very much on the ball with Smallville episodes.

Though this is posted in "rumorville" the directors are dead on with the exception of episodes 16 & 21, since Tom Welling and Mairzee Almas ended up being credited for the opposite episodes they're listed with and of course no one listed for episode 11.

I actually wanted to know why you kinda boycott informations from Kryptonsite, about Smallville. Craig Byrne, the webmaster, is in contact with some people working for the show (don't know if it's the writers, directors or actors...) and most of the time (like 95%) the spoilers of the site are accurate (especially the titles, revealed months before any official announcement, etc...)

I was just wondering about The Last House on The Left articles. I saw the movie last night and I was looking up the reception and I noticed the info box. I understand the concern for redundancy in my Watchmen post. But you don't think it's relevant that analysts are describing the opening weekend as a disappointment? You know, to show both sides of the story? Warner Bros. has theirs, that it was a success and what they wanted, and box office analysts have another, that the movie was expected to open in excess of 300's box office, and that the drop off in sales - as well as the demographics buying tickets - show a trend that indicates that the movie did not have wide-spread appeal? Isn't that more accurate from a journalistic perspective? I thought the point of discussing box office was to look at the result, compare it back to the expectancy, and use that to discuss whether it was a "success" or "disappointment"?

Especially since the position is in conflict with the results from our discussion in wikiproject film (or tv) regarding inclusion. Licensed portrayals are not the only litmus for inclusion, especially when there is outside (meaning non-fan) media confirmation of the portrayal. As noted elsewhere, there have only been three serious portrayals of the character (and I am excepting for the moment the child actor playing Kirk as a boy; it seems tangential to the main argument at this time); everything else has been a riff on Shatner's portrayal. THF said basically the same thing as you and I agree with both of your statements, but one editor doesn't. I'm new to Wikipedia so here is the part where I will need some guidance if you're willing to offer it. Since the consensus appears to overwhelmingly support the position that fictional characters' infoboxes should list studio portrayals only, how do we move forward to make that change permanent when one editor will just keep changing it back? That editor honestly believes he has the consensus, where it's pretty clear from reading the talk page that he doesn't. Can you offer any suggestions based on your experience here? Thanks. Horror Collaboration

Noticed your edit comment on the Collaboration page and couldn't agree more… people just don't seem to be nominating material for collaboration. I was hoping to get the reviewer's reaction to the special effects in there as well, but it was deleted too because it was "subjective opinion". Yeah, I've only had time to check in on Wikipedia briefly lately. Nothing major, just busy with lots of little things. I also joined a Buffy forum a couple of months ago, so a lot of my time online is spent arguing with people over there. ;) How are you? I haven't really been following the Halloween movie that closely. I saw the pictures of Laurie all blood-splattered and beaten (is that from the first movie, or a new attack?) and heard that Daeg was recast as young Michael because his voice had broken. Well, my activity at SlayAlive mostly consists of defending Season Eight against the haters. Some people just don't get the comic book medium. Urgh, I really hope we don't see that beard in the movie. It was bad enough he had long hair in the first movie, now he's a yeti? I'm currently watching Angel for the hundredth time, and recently bought Dexter season one. I've never seen it, but I've heard really good things so I thought I'd give it a chance. Birds of Prey... isn't that meant to be canon with the Smallville universe? I heard that somewhere, not sure if it's true. Well, in the original, everyone would have had the balls to cut Michael's hair because he was the model patient. He just sat there for 15 years, nobody thought anything of him. Then he turned violent one night and escaped. It was only in the remake they showed him killing nurses. Even so, wouldn't they have some kind of procedures for cutting patients hair in asylums? Drug them up or something? Whatever. I felt that the crazy hair took away from the irony of him looking "angelic" and normal. But Tyler Mane is easily the best Shape since the original, so I'm not complaining that much. I heard about the meteor shower reference. Isn't BoP taking place way in the future anyway? Like, isn't one of the characters Batman's daughter or something? Is the show enjoyable in a take-it-with-a-pinch-of-salt kind of way?  Paul  730 21:32, 8 March 2009 (UTC)

Yeah, I think F13 was the first time I've went to the cinema by myself, you feel like a loser. The Last House article looks good... I just noticed Cromartie from Terminator is in it, you didn't like him did you? Btw, have you seen Twilight? I really hate it just from what I've heard, and my boss lend me his copy of it. I liked Cromartie. He wasn't the best Terminator in the series but he was a nice recurring villain. Based on the trailers I've seen for season 2, I think he's supposed be creepy and weird rather than physically threatening. There was a scene I saw where he was singing to a little girl (I think it was him?). I just spent the last two hours bored shitless as I sat through Twilight. My God, avoid that film at all costs! The dialogue is atrocious and the supposed "sexual tension" basically consists of the characters sitting around looking confused and miserable while the camera zooms uncomfortably close to their faces. Well, one of the reviews I read said the movie felt like a fat girl had written down her personal fantasies. Bella has no personality whatsoever, and yet all the kids at her school want to be her friend and Edward falls in love with her instantly. She's the embodiment of a Mary Sue, basically. The story is basically just fan fiction-style wish fulfillment, it's so amateurish. I'm not sure I agree with your theory about the female creative team (so sexist! :P), I think the book was shit to begin with and the movie was a pretty loyal adaptation.  Paul  730 03:55, 15 March 2009 (UTC)
Hmm, I still don't agree with you. How is a predominanty female crew "keeping it in the family"? The film wasn't shit because of the crew, it was shit because it was loyal adaptation of a shit book. It was as good an adaptation as you could really expect, and from what I hear, most of the books' fans were happy with it. In all seriousness, you are coming off pretty sexist. Not calling it or now calling it? I wasn't aware that it was an official title; I saw that you redirected an article with that name but I assumed it was just another of the thousands of titles over-zealous fanboys are trying to create the article under. That was the title of Loomis' book in RZH. I could live with it, not too fond of the H2 part though. They tried that shit with H20 ten years ago and it didn't work then. Well, Halloween didn't play that big a role in RZH. Shame. I'd be fine with Halloween: The Devil Walks Among Us. It's the H2 that grates... it's fine as working title/nickname but it's too tacky to be the official name. What do you mean by Lois Lane? One of the actresses that played Lois Lane or the character is going to be named Lois Lane? Yeah, but the original had more of a "boogeyman" element so it felt more Halloweeny. The remake was just "kid goes psycho" and the Halloween setting was very peripheral. Oh right... there's like five Lois Lane actresses so that wasn't really clear. ;) Kidder should be good, I wonder if she is playing Marion after all? Dunno, why not? She's a popular Halloween character. Dr. Wynn became a female nurse in the remake, it's not anymore of a stretch for Marion to become a psychologist. But she's Barbara Collier now so it's a moot point. On an unrelated note, I have a very strong feeling that this film will bomb horribly. That cover is pretty cool, it looks like they're basing Freddy on his New Nightmare look. The more I hear about FvJvA2, the more I'm excited about it. One of the writers mentioned Tommy Jarvis in an interview and apparently other survivors from the films will be brought into it. It seems like it's going to be an epic finale to this universe. I'd love Nancy to be in it, imagine Nancy, Tommy, and Ash teaming up against Freddy and Jason. That's like the ultimate horror fangasm.
On an unrelated note, do you watch Dexter? I just finished the first season on DVD, and while I think it's a bit overrated, it's still a really good series. The idea of a heroic serial killer is just a really fascinating concept.  Paul  730 16:39, 22 March 2009 (UTC)

Yeah, the mask in HII is actually pretty good, I like it. It does look slightly different though, so this new one trumps it for consistency. This is also the first time we've seen damage from the previous film incorporated into the mask, what with the bullet hole. That's pretty ironic, but I bet the Shape mask that he wore looked nothing like the original one. None of the sequel masks or the merchandise have ever managed to replicate the creep-factor of the original. (At least until Zombie came along, to his credit). Some of the comic artists have also commented how hard it is to capture that image accurately. I think it was Debra Hill who said that the beauty of the original mask was that it looked nothing like Willian Shatner at all, it just looked weird and inhuman.  Paul  730 23:18, 22 March 2009 (UTC)
I do enjoy the cheapness of the mask's origin story. There's something endearingly tacky about a painted Captain Kirk mask becoming a Hollywood icon of horror. I've always thought his hair was red. Dark brownish red, sure, but with a definite red tint. You can't really tell in the original (cos you can never see the mask properly) but it's more noticable in the sequels. (Although, I've been looking through various screenshots and comic panels, and it does actually vary between black, brown, and red depending on the light. List of American films

Why the fuss over one specific link to the year in film? The general year categories are completely mixed with German, RUssian, French and all world films, NOT purely American. The specific year page in American film also provides much more information than categories.

If people object to see also, the best thing would be to ensure the specific American lists are categorised in the main year categories. Great video, I'm actually quite excited for this now. Glad Freddy has very few lines, that sounds like the right way to go IMO. Less sure about the question of his original guilt... the mystery is certainly interesting but I'm cautious of Freddy being portrayed as a sympathetic victim, like Jason. Nancy is going to be an "anti-social goth chick"? Hmm, that sounds really interesting as well. She's one of my favourite horror character so I'm quite protective of her, hope they get a good actress. Well, it depends what type of "goth" they make her. If she's a self-pitying hates-the-world emo, then that sucks, but if she's more cool and punky, that's okay. They'll probably make her an emo, though. :( Laurie Strode? In what universe was she a goth? In fact, how many sacred heroines have been gothed up?
I definintely don't want Freddy to be sympathetic. They already went down that road with Leatherface and Michael, I can't be arsed with another "Oh, woe is me! I'm not really bad, honest!" adaptation. So long as they keep it ambiguous I guess I'll cope. I do like the idea of him being good-looking and friendly with the kids, that's scarier than a lecherous old man. I hope this film is layered and intelligent, the original had some interesting themes to it, the whole "sins of the father" thing. Ohh, the way that sentence was worded looked like you were citing Laurie as an example of goths corrupting classic characters. Or maybe I'm just dense. Yeah... I wasn't too keen on Laurie's loss of innocence in the remake either, but that might be because of the juvenile way it was portrayed (bagel anyone?) as well as the irritating actress. My favourite incarnation of Laurie remains her less wholesome H20 Keri Tate persona, that's when the character's at her best IMO.
We don't know if the kids lied, and if they did, what Nancy's role in it was. Maybe she was manipulated into doing it, and she's all guilty and traumatised as a teenger. That has potential.  Paul  730 15:48, 26 March 2009 (UTC)
I think you'll be hard pressed to find a Halloween fan who doesn't hate that bagel scene. It's quite infamous, as Zombie acknowledges himself in the commentary. The character is just pretty half-baked in the remake, she spends most of her time sitting around reciting lines from the original movie. I'm hoping she's more fully-developed in the sequel, which seems to be one of Zombie's objectives from what I hear... I have high hopes for Nancy. Clay is cool, but he doesn't exist in this continuity. I chose Alice because she was alive and one of the stronger characters to face Freddy... I liked her in 4 but not in 5. Nancy is dead, but other comics have depicted her as a powerful active force in the dreamworld so she's still available IMO. If she's in it, we could have cameos from any of Freddy's victims. Katherine I left out because I loathe Freddy's Dead but I did think about the parallels between her and Jessica. Unfortunately, they both orignated in the worst films of their respective series. I'm trying to think who else is alive... Rennie maybe, although she never really stood out that much. I like Rowan, but obviously she can't appear because of the timing. Speaking of which, given Katz's respect for continuity, maybe this story will lead into the start of Jason X; the government is involved, after all. I'm really interested in the plan to tie everything together, especially the idea that these characters were "chosen" to fight Freddy and Jason and this story is the culmination of their destinies.  Paul  730 17:34, 27 March 2009 (UTC)

Date autoformatting

Hi Bignole - A couple of quick questions in response to your comments in the poll in favour of autoformatting.

  • How does it 'save extraneous codes'? I don't understand.

Thanks for the explanation about the citation templates. However, although a little could be saved there by the use of yyyy-mm-dd throughout, the cost of autoformatting would be that every date in WP would have to be marked up (probably with some sort of template wrapper, such as {{DateFormat|2009-01-30}}), and every article would have some sort of default date format marker along the lines of {{DefaultFormat:MDY}}. Wikiproject Television question

Hi Bignole - I have a TV related question and saw your name on the list of WP:TV participants. I was wondering if there is any consensus as to whether petitions should be included in the External links section of TV show articles. I've searched through multiple style and project pages but I don't see where this topic is addressed. I've seen these type of links pop up a few times on recent changes patrols etc. and am always tempted to remove them, but would like to be able to back-up the deletion with policy or concensus.
